It is of paramount importance to enhance medical practices, given how important it is to protect human life. Medical therapy can be accelerated by automating patient prediction using machine learning techniques. To double the efficiency of classifiers, several preprocessing strategies must be adopted for their crucial duty in this field. Feature selection (FS) is one tool that has been used frequently to modify data and enhance classification outcomes by lowering the dimensionality of datasets. Excluded features are those that have a poor correlation coefficient with the label class, that is, they have no meaningful correlation with classification and do not indicate where the instance belongs. Along with the recurring features, which show a strong association with the remainder of the features. Contrarily, the model being produced during training is harmed, and the classifier is misled by their presence. This causes overfitting and increases algorithm complexity and processing time. These are used in exploration to allow solutions to be found more thoroughly and in relation to a chosen solution than at random. TLSO, PLSO, and LLSO stand for Tournament Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, Proportional Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, and Linear Order Logarithmic Snake Optimizer, respectively. A number of 22 reference medical datasets were used in experiments. The findings indicate that, among 86 % of the datasets, TLSO attained the best accuracy, and among 82 % of the datasets, the best feature reduction. In terms of the standard deviation, the TLSO also attained noteworthy reliability and stability. On the basis of running duration, it is, nonetheless, quite effective.

Classifying text is a method for categorizing documents into pre-established groups. Text documents must be prepared and represented in a way that is appropriate for the algorithms used for data mining prior to classification. As a result, a number of term weighting strategies have been created in the literature to enhance text categorization algorithms' functionality. This study compares the effects of Binary and Term frequency weighting feature methodologies on the text's classification method when stop words are eliminated once and when they are not. In recognition of assessing the effects of prior weighting of features approaches on classification results in terms of accuracy, recall, precision, and F-measure values, we used an Arabic data set made up of 322 documents divided into six main topics (agriculture, economy, health, politics, science, and sport), each of which contains 50 documents, with the exception of the health category, which contains 61 documents. The results demonstrate that for all metrics, the term frequency feature weighting approach with stop word removal outperforms the binary approach, while for accuracy, recall, and F-Measure, the binary approach outperforms the TF approach without stop word removal. However, for precision, the two approaches produce results that are very similar. Additionally, it is clear from the data that, using the same phrase weighting approach, stop word removing increases classification accuracy.

Sea Horse Optimizer (SHO) is a noteworthy metaheuristic algorithm that emulates various intelligent behaviors exhibited by sea horses, encompassing feeding patterns, male reproductive strategies, and intricate movement patterns. To mimic the nuanced locomotion of sea horses, SHO integrates the logarithmic helical equation and Levy flight, effectively incorporating both random movements with substantial step sizes and refined local exploitation. Additionally, the utilization of Brownian motion facilitates a more comprehensive exploration of the search space. This study introduces a robust and high-performance variant of the SHO algorithm named mSHO. The enhancement primarily focuses on bolstering SHO's exploitation capabilities by replacing its original method with an innovative local search strategy encompassing three distinct steps: a neighborhood-based local search, a global non-neighbor-based search, and a method involving circumnavigation of the existing search region. These techniques improve mSHO algorithm's search capabilities, allowing it to navigate the search space and converge toward optimal solutions efficiently. The comprehensive results distinctly establish the supremacy and efficiency of the mSHO method as an exemplary tool for tackling an array of optimization quandaries. The results show that the proposed mSHO algorithm has a total rank of 1 for CEC'2020 test functions. In contrast, the mSHO achieved the best value for the engineering problems, recording a value of 0.012665, 2993.634, 0.01266, 1.724967, 263.8915, 0.032255, 58507.14, 1.339956, and 0.23524 for the pressure vessel design, speed reducer design, tension/compression spring, welded beam design, three-bar truss engineering design, industrial refrigeration system, multi-Product batch plant, cantilever beam problem, multiple disc clutch brake problems, respectively.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an increase in the awareness of and demand for telemedicine services, resulting in a need for automating the process and relying on machine learning (ML) to reduce the operational load. This research proposes a specialty detection classifier based on a machine learning model to automate the process of detecting the correct specialty for each question and routing it to the correct doctor. The study focuses on handling multiclass and highly imbalanced datasets for Arabic medical questions, comparing some oversampling techniques, develo** a Deep Neural Network (DNN) model for specialty detection, and exploring the hidden business areas that rely on specialty detection such as customizing and personalizing the consultation flow for different specialties. The proposed module is deployed in both synchronous and asynchronous medical consultations to provide more real-time classification, minimize the doctor effort in addressing the correct specialty, and give the system more flexibility in customizing the medical consultation flow. The evaluation and assessment are based on accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The experimental results suggest that combining multiple techniques, such as SMOTE and reweighing with keyword identification, is necessary to achieve improved performance in detecting rare classes in imbalanced multiclass datasets. By using these techniques, specialty detection models can more accurately detect rare classes in real-world scenarios where imbalanced data is common.

HHO-MLP aims to select optimal parameters in its learning process to minimize intrusion detection errors in networks. HHO-MLP has been implemented using EvoloPy NN framework, an open-source Python tool specialized for training MLPs using evolutionary algorithms. For purposes of comparing the HHO model against other evolutionary methodologies currently available, specificity and sensitivity measures, accuracy measures, and mse and rmse measures have been calculated using KDD datasets. Experiments have demonstrated the HHO MLP method is effective at identifying malicious patterns. HHO-MLP has been tested against evolutionary algorithms like Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (BOA), Grasshopper Optimization Algorithms (GOA), and Black Widow Optimizations (BOW), with validation by Random Forest (RF), XG-Boost. HHO-MLP showed superior performance by attaining top scores with accuracy rate of 93.17%, sensitivity level of 89.25%, and specificity percentage of 95.41%.

Software requirements prioritization plays a crucial role in software development. It can be viewed as the process of ordering requirements by determining which requirements must be done first and which can be done later. Powerful requirements prioritization techniques are of paramount importance to finish the implementation on time and within budget. Many factors affect requirement prioritization such as stakeholder expectations, complexity, dependency, scalability, risk, and cost. Therefore, finding the proper order of requirements is a challenging process. Hence, different types of requirements prioritization techniques have been developed to support this task. In this survey, we propose a novel classification that can classify the prioritization techniques under two major classes: relative and exact prioritization techniques class, where each class is divided into two subclasses. We depend in our classification on the way the value of ranking is given to the requirement, either explicitly as a specific value in the case of the exact prioritization techniques class, or implicitly in the case of the Relative prioritization technique class. An overview of fifteen different requirements prioritization techniques are presented and organized according to the proposed classification criteria's. Moreover, we make a comparison between methods that are related to the same subclass to analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Based on the comparison results, the properties for each proposed subclass of techniques are identified. Depending on these properties, we present some recommendations to help project managers in the process of selecting the most suitable technique to prioritize requirements based on their project characteristics (number of requirements, time, cost, and accuracy).

As cloud computing usage grows, cloud data centers play an increasingly important role. To maximize resource utilization, ensure service quality, and enhance system performance, it is crucial to allocate tasks and manage performance effectively. The purpose of this study is to provide an extensive analysis of task allocation and performance management techniques employed in cloud data centers. The aim is to systematically categorize and organize previous research by identifying the cloud computing methodologies, categories, and gaps. A literature review was conducted, which included the analysis of 463 task allocations and 480 performance management papers. The review revealed three task allocation research topics and seven performance management methods. Task allocation research areas are resource allocation, load-Balancing, and scheduling. Performance management includes monitoring and control, power and energy management, resource utilization optimization, quality of service management, fault management, virtual machine management, and network management. The study proposes new techniques to enhance cloud computing work allocation and performance management. Short-comings in each approach can guide future research. The research's findings on cloud data center task allocation and performance management can assist academics, practitioners, and cloud service providers in optimizing their systems for dependability, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. Innovative methodologies can steer future research to fill gaps in the literature.

When search methods are being designed it is very important to know which parameters have the greatest influence on the behaviour and performance of the algorithm. To this end, algorithm parameters are commonly calibrated by means of either theoretic analysis or intensive experimentation. When undertaking a detailed statistical analysis of the influence of each parameter, the designer should pay attention mostly to the parameters that are statistically significant. In this paper the ANOVA (ANalysis Of the VAriance) method is used to carry out an exhaustive analysis of a simulated annealing based method and the different parameters it requires. Following this idea, the significance and relative importance of the parameters regarding the obtained results, as well as suitable values for each of these, were obtained using ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey HSD test, on four well known function optimization problems and the likelihood function that is used to estimate the parameters involved in the lognormal diffusion process. Through this statistical study we have verified the adequacy of parameter values available in the bibliography using parametric hypothesis tests.

In a connected world, spare CPU cycles are up for grabs, if you only make its obtention easy enough. In this paper we present a distributed evolutionary computation system that uses the computational capabilities of the ubiquituous web browser. Using Asynchronous Javascript and JSON (Javascript Object Notation, a serialization protocol) allows anybody with a web browser (that is, mostly everybody connected to the Internet) to participate in a genetic algorithm experiment with little effort, or none at all. Since, in this case, computing becomes a social activity and is inherently impredictable, in this paper we will explore the performance of this kind of virtual computer by solving simple problems such as the Royal Road function and analyzing how many machines and evaluations it yields. We will also examine possible performance bottlenecks and how to solve them, and, finally, issue some advice on how to set up this kind of experiments to maximize turnout and, thus, performance.

In this work we propose a fine grained approach with self-adaptive migration rate for distributed evolutionary computation. Our target is to gain some insights on the effects caused by communication when the algorithm scales. To this end, we consider a set of basic topologies in order to avoid the overlap** of algorithmic effects between communication and topological structures. We analyse the approach viability by comparing how solution quality and algorithm speed change when the number of processors increases and compare it with an Island model based implementation. A finer-grained approach implies a better chance of achieving a larger scalable system; such a feature is crucial concerning large-scale parallel architectures such as Peer-to-Peer systems. In order to check scalability, we perform a threefold experimental evaluation of this model: First, we concentrate on the algorithmic results when the problem scales up to eight nodes in comparison with how it does following the Island model. Second, we analyse the computing time speedup of the approach while scaling. Finally, we analyse the network performance with the proposed self-adaptive migration rate policy that depends on the link latency and bandwidth. With this experimental setup, our approach shows better scalability than the Island model and a equivalent robustness on the average of the three test functions under study.

Introducing new technologies such as messaging platforms, and the chatbots attached to them, in higher education, is rapidly growing. This introduction entails a careful consideration of the potential opportunities and/or challenges of adopting these tools. Hence, a thorough examination of the teachers' experiences in this discipline can shed light on the effective ways of enhancing students' learning and boosting their progress. In this contribution, we have surveyed the opinions of tertiary education teachers based in Spain (mainly) and Spanish-speaking countries. The focus of these surveys is to collect teachers' feedback about their opinions regarding the introduction of the messaging platforms and chatbots in their classes, understand their needs and to gather information about the various educational use cases where these tools are valuable. In addition, an analysis of how and when teachers' opinions towards the use of these tools can vary across gender, experience, and their discipline of specialisation is presented. The key findings of this study highlight the factors that can contribute to the advancement of the adoption of messaging platforms and chatbots in higher education institutions to achieve the desired learning outcomes.

JavaScript is an interpreted language mainly known for its inclusion in web browsers, making them a container for rich Internet based applications. This has inspired its use, for a long time, as a tool for evolutionary algorithms, mainly so in browser-based volunteer computing environments. Several libraries have also been published so far and are in use. However, the last years have seen a resurgence of interest in the language, becoming one of the most popular and thus spawning the improvement of its implementations, which are now the foundation of many new client-server applications. We present such an application for running distributed volunteer-based evolutionary algorithm experiments, and we make a series of measurements to establish the speed of JavaScript in evolutionary algorithms that can serve as a baseline for comparison with other distributed computing experiments. These experiments use different integer and floating point problems, and prove that the speed of JavaScript is actually competitive with other languages commonly used by the evolutionary algorithm practitioner.

In this paper, a high-level comparison of both SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (Representational State Transfer) is made. These are the two main approaches for interfacing to the web with web services. Both approaches are different and present some advantages and disadvantages for interfacing to web services: SOAP is conceptually more difficult (has a steeper learning curve) and more "heavy-weight" than REST, although it lacks of standards support for security. In order to test their eficiency (in time), two experiments have been performed using both technologies: a client-server model implementation and a master-slave based genetic algorithm (GA). The results obtained show clear differences in time between SOAP and REST implementations. Although both techniques are suitable for develo** parallel systems, SOAP is heavier than REST, mainly due to the verbosity of SOAP communications (XML increases the time taken to parse the messages).

This paper analises distributed evolutionary computation based on the Representational State Transfer (REST) protocol, which overlays a farming model on evolutionary computation. An approach to evolutionary distributed optimisation of multilayer perceptrons (MLP) using REST and language Perl has been done. In these experiments, a master-slave based evolutionary algorithm (EA) has been implemented, where slave processes evaluate the costly fitness function (training a MLP to solve a classification problem). Obtained results show that the parallel version of the developed programs obtains similar or better results using much less time than the sequential version, obtaining a good speedup.

Within the context of P2P computing, we propose the so-called Evolvable Agent Model for distributed population-based algorithms which uses gossip** as communication policy, and represents every individual as a self-scheduled single thread. The model avoids obsolete nodes in the population by defining a self-adaptive refresh rate which depends on the latency and bandwidth of the network. Such a mechanism balances the migration rate to the congestion of the links pursuing global population coherence. We perform an experimental evaluation of this model on a real parallel system and observe how solution quality and algorithm speed scale with the number of processors with this seamless approach.

In this paper a new RSS feed ranking method called NectaRSS is introduced. The system recommends information to a user based on his/her past choices. User preferences are automatically acquired, avoiding explicit feedback, and ranking is based on those preferences distilled to a user profile. NectaRSS uses the well-known vector space model for user profiles and new documents, and compares them using information-retrieval techniques, but introduces a novel method for user profile creation and adaptation from users' past choices. The efficiency of the proposed method has been tested by embedding it into an intelligent aggregator (RSS feed reader), which has been used by different and heterogeneous users. Besides, this paper proves that the ranking of newsitems yielded by NectaRSS improves its quality with user's choices, and its superiority over other algorithms that use a different information representation method.

In the case of Darwinian evolution, the Baldwin effect, that is, the progressive incorporation of learned characteristics to the genotypes, can be observed and leveraged to improve the search. The purpose of this paper is to carry out an exper- imental study into how learning can improve G-Prop genetic search. Two ways of combining learning and genetic search are explored: one exploits the Baldwin effect, while the other uses a Lamarckian strategy. Our experiments show that using a Lamarckian op- erator makes the algorithm find networks with a low error rate, and the smallest size, while using the Bald- win effect obtains MLPs with the smallest error rate, and a larger size, taking longer to reach a solution. Both approaches obtain a lower average error than other BP-based algorithms like RPROP, other evolu- tionary methods and fuzzy logic based methods
