Software engineers have adopted the Dynamic Software Product Lines (DSPL) engineering practices to develop Dynamically Adaptable Software (DAS). DAS is seen as a DSPL application and must cope with a large number of configurations of features, Non-functional Requirements (NFRs), and contexts. However, the accurate representation of the impact of features over NFRs and contexts for the identification of optimal configurations is not a trivial task. Software engineers need to have domain knowledge and design DAS before deploying to satisfy those requirements. Aiming to handle them, we proposed an approach of Trade-off Analysis for DSPL at design-time, named ToffA-DSPL. It deals with the configuration selection process considering interactions between NFRs and contexts. We performed an exploratory study based on simulations to identify the usefulness of the ToffA-DSPL approach. In general, the configurations suggested by ToffA-DSPL provide high satisfaction levels of NFRs. Based on simulations, we evidenced that our approach aims to explore reuse and is useful for generating valid and optimal configurations. In addition, ToffA-DSPL enables software engineers to conduct trade-off analysis, evaluate changes in the context feature, and define an adaptation model from optimal configurations found in the analysis.

Turnover consists of moving into and out of professional employees in the company in a given period. Such a phenomenon significantly impacts the software industry since it generates knowledge loss, delays in the schedule, and increased costs in the final project. Despite the efforts made by researchers and professionals to minimize the turnover, more studies are needed to understand the motivation that drives Software Engineers to leave their jobs and the main strategies CEOs adopt to retain these professionals in software development companies. In this paper, we contribute a mixed methods study involving semi-structured interviews with Software Engineers and CEOs to obtain a wider opinion of these professionals about turnover and a subsequent validation survey with additional software engineers to check and review the insights from interviews. In studying such aspects, we identified 19 different reasons for software engineers' turnover and 18 more efficient strategies used in the software development industry to reduce it. Our findings provide several implications for industry and academia, which can drive future research.

Mental health disorders affect a large number of people, leading to many lives being lost every year. These disorders affect struggling individuals and businesses whose productivity decreases due to days of lost work or lower employee performance. Recent studies provide alarming numbers of individuals who suffer from mental health disorders, e.g., depression and anxiety, in particular contexts, such as academia. In the context of the software industry, there are limited studies that aim to understand the presence of mental health disorders and the characteristics of jobs in this context that can be triggers for the deterioration of the mental health of software professionals. In this paper, we present the results of a survey with 500 software professionals. We investigate different aspects of their mental health and the characteristics of their work to identify possible triggers of mental health deterioration. Our results provide the first evidence that mental health is a critical issue to be addressed in the software industry, as well as raise the direction of changes that can be done in this context to improve the mental health of software professionals.

Such class of problems enables the presence of many particular operators, for instance, the fractional operator with variable exponent, double-phase and double-phase with variable exponent operators, anisotropic fractional $p$-Laplacian, among others.

We discuss the existence of multiple positive solutions leading to the occurrence of an S-shaped bifurcation curve to the equations of the form $$ -Δ_p u= f(μ,λ, u)~ \mbox{in} ~Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N $$ where $Δ_p$ is a $p$-Laplacian, $p>1$, $N\geq 1$, $μ, λ\in \mathbb{R}$. We deal with relatively unexplored cases when $f(μ,λ, u)$ is non-Lipschitz at $u=0$, $f(μ,λ, 0) = 0 $ and $ f(μ,λ, u) <0$, $u \in (0,r)$, for some $r<+\infty$. We develop the nonlinear generalized Rayleigh quotients method to find a range of parameters where the equation may have distinct branches of positive solutions. As a consequence, applying the Nehari manifold method and the mountain pass theorem, we prove that the equation for some range of values $μ, λ$, has at least three positive solutions with two linearly unstable solutions and one linearly stable.
The results evidence that the bifurcation curve is S-shaped and exhibits the so-called dual cusp catastrophe which is characterized by the fact that the corresponding dynamic equation has stable states only within the cusp-shaped region in the control plane of parameters. Our results are new even in the one-dimensional case and $p=2$.

where $λ> 0, N \geq 3, α\in (0, N)$. The potential $V$ is a continuous function and $I_α$ denotes the standard Riesz potential. Assume also that $1 < q < 2,~2_α < p < 2^*_α$ where $2_α=(N+α)/N$, $2_α=(N+α)/(N-2)$. Our main contribution is to consider a specific condition on the parameter $λ> 0$ taking into account the nonlinear Rayleigh quotient. More precisely, there exists $λ_n > 0$ such that our main problem admits at least two positive solutions for each $λ\in (0, λ_n]$. In order to do that we combine Nehari method with a fine analysis on the nonlinear Rayleigh quotient. The parameter $λ_n > 0$ is optimal in some sense which allow us to apply the Nehari method.

The presence of both strongly-singular and non-continuous terms bring up difficulties in associating a differentiable functional to the problem with finite energy in the whole space $W_0^{1,Φ}(Ω)$. To overcome this obstacle, we established an optimal condition for the existence of $W_0^{1,Φ}(Ω)$-solutions to a strongly-singular problem, which allows us to constrain the energy functional to a subset of $W_0^{1,Φ}(Ω)$ to apply techniques of convex analysis and generalized gradient in Clarke sense.

For the homogeneous case we consider an existence result together with a regularity result proving that any weak solution remains bounded. Furthermore, for the non-homogeneous case, the nonlinear term $g$ can be subcritical or critical proving also that any weak solution is bounded. The proofs are based on Moser's iteration in Orclicz and Orlicz-Sobolev spaces.

Abstract:
We develop arguments on the critical point theory for locally Lipschitz functionals on Orlicz-Sobolev spaces, along with convexity and compactness techniques to investigate existence of solution of the multivalued equation $\displaystyle - Δ_Φ u \in \partial j(.,u) + λh \mbox{in} Ω$, where $Ω\subset {\bf R}^{N}$ is a bounded smooth domain, $Φ: {\r} \longrightarrow [0,\infty)$ is a suitable N-func…

Abstract:
In 2009 Loc and Schmitt established a result on sufficient conditions for multiplicity of solutions of a class of nonlinear eignvalue problems for the p-Laplace operator under Dirichlet boundary conditions, extending an earlier result of 1981 by Peter Hess for the Laplacian. Results on necessary conditions for existence were also established. In the present paper the authors extend the main result…

Results on necessary conditions for existence were also established. In the present paper the authors extend the main results by Loc and Schmitt to the $Φ$-Laplacian. To overcome the difficulties with this much more general operator it was necessary to employ regularity results by Lieberman, a strong maximum principle by Pucci and Serrin and a general result on lower and upper solutions by Le.

In this paper, we focus on Fourier analysis and holographic transforms for signal representation. For instance, in the case of image processing, the holographic representation has the property that an arbitrary portion of the transformed image enables reconstruction of the whole image with details missing. We focus on holographic representation defined through the Fourier Transforms. Thus, We firstly review some results in Fourier transform and Fourier series. Next, we review the Discrete Holographic Fourier Transform (DHFT) for image representation. Then, we describe the contributions of our work. We show a simple scheme for progressive transmission based on the DHFT. Next, we propose the Continuous Holographic Fourier Transform (CHFT) and discuss some theoretical aspects of it for 1D signals. Finally, some testes are presented in the experimental results
