Stellar and Circumstellar Properties of the Pre-Main Sequence Binary GV Tau from Infrared Spectroscopy
Abstract: We report spatially resolved spectroscopy of both components of the low-mass pre-main-sequence binary GV Tau. High resolution spectroscopy in the K- and L-bands is used to characterize the stellar properties of the binary and to explore the nature of the circumstellar environment. We find that the southern component, GV Tau S, is a radial velocity variable, possibly as a result of an unseen low-… ▽ More

Meta-nematic, smectic and crystalline phases of dipolar fermions in an optical lattice
Abstract: It has been suggested that some strongly correlated matter might be understood qualitatively in terms of liquid crystalline phases intervening between the Fermi gas and the Wigner crystal or Mott insulator. We propose a tunable realisation of this soft quantum matter physics in an ultra-cold gas. It uses optical lattices and dipolar interactions to realise a particularly simple model. Our analys… ▽ More

Challenge of polarized beams at future colliders
Abstract: A short overview about the potential of polarized beams at future colliders is given. In particular the baseline design for polarized beams at the ILC is presented and the physics case for polarized $e^-$ and $e^+$ is discussed. In order to fulfil the precision requirements spin tracking from the source to the interaction point is needed. Updates concerning the theoretical calculations as well a… ▽ More

Interaction induced dimerization in zigzag single wall carbon nanotubes
Abstract: We derive a low-energy effective model of metallic zigzag carbon nanotubes at half filling. We show that there are three important features characterizing the low-energy properties of these systems: the long-range Coulomb interaction, umklapp scattering and an explicit dimerization generated by interactions. The ratio of the dimerization induced gap and the Mott gap induced by the umklapp intera… ▽ More

Gaseous Inner Disks
Abstract: As the likely birthplaces of planets and an essential conduit for the buildup of stellar masses, inner disks are of fundamental interest in star and planet formation. Studies of the gaseous component of inner disks are of interest because of their ability to probe the dynamics, physical and chemical structure, and gas content of this region. We review the observational and theoretical developmen… ▽ More

Spinless Fermionic ladders in a magnetic field: Phase Diagram
Abstract: The system of interacting spinless fermions hop** on a two-leg ladder exhibits a series of quantum phase transitions when subjected to an external magnetic field. At half filling, these are either U(1) Gaussian phase transitions between two phases with distinct types of long-range order or Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions between ordered and gapless phases.

Quantum teleportation between nanomechanical modes
Abstract: We study a quantum teleportation scheme between two nanomechanical modes without local interaction. The nanomechanical modes are linearly coupled to and connected by the continuous variable modes of a superconducting circuit consisting of a transmission line and Josephson junctions. We calculate the fidelity of transferring Gaussian states at finite temperature and non-unit detector efficiency.… ▽ More

Fractional charge excitations in fermionic ladders
Abstract: The system of interacting spinless fermions hop** on a two-leg ladder in the presence of an external magnetic field is shown to possess a long range order: the bond density wave or the staggered flux phase. In both cases the elementary excitations are $Z_2$ kinks and carry one half the charge of an electron.

Hot H2O Emission and Evidence for Turbulence in the Disk of a Young Star
Abstract: We report on the detection and analysis of hot ro-vibrational H2O emission from SVS-13, a young stellar object previously known to have strong CO overtone bandhead emission. Modeling of the high-resolution infrared spectrum shows that the H2O emission is characterized by temperatures ~ 1500 K, significantly lower than the temperatures that characterize the CO bandhead emission. Spectrum and correlation functions of a quasi-one-dimensional quantum Ising model
Abstract: We consider a model of weakly coupled quantum Ising chains. We describe the phase diagram of such a model and study the dynamical magnetic susceptibility by means of Bethe ansatz and the Random Phase Approximation applied to the inter-chain exchange. We argue that some of the beautiful physics of the quantum Ising chain in a magnetic field survives in the ordered state of the quasi-one-dimension… ▽ More

Superconductivity and Charge Density Wave in a Quasi-One-Dimensional Spin Gap System
Abstract: We consider a model of spin-gapped chains weakly coupled by Josephson and Coulomb interactions. Combining such non-perturbative methods as bosonization and Bethe ansatz to treat the intra-chain interactions with the Random Phase Approximation for the inter-chain couplings and the first corrections to this, we investigate the phase diagram of this model. The phase diagram shows both charge densit… ▽ More

Quantum Effects in the Mechanical Properties of Suspended Nanomechanical Systems
Abstract: We explore the quantum aspects of an elastic bar supported at both ends and subject to compression. If strain rather than stress is held fixed, the system remains stable beyond the buckling instability, supporting two potential minima. The classical equilibrium transverse displacement is analogous to a Ginsburg-Landau order parameter, with strain playing the role of temperature. We calculate the… ▽ More

Evidence for Residual Material in Accretion Disk Gaps: CO Fundamental Emission from the T Tauri Spectroscopic Binary DQ Tau
Abstract: We present the discovery of CO fundamental ro-vibrational emission from the classical T Tauri spectroscopic binary DQ Tau. The high-resolution infrared echelle spectra reveal emission lines from both the v=1 and v=2 vibrational levels with line widths of roughly 70 km/s. The average CO excitation temperature is approximately 1200 K. We model the spectra as arising from gas in Keplerian rotation… ▽ More

$Ξ^{-} d\to nΛΛ$ and the $ΛΛ$ final state interaction
Abstract: The reaction $Ξ^-d\to nΛΛ$ is studied within the framework of the Faddeev equations as a possible tool to gain insight into the final state $Λ$--$Λ$ interaction. The neutron differential energy spectrum gives a final state interaction that is sensitive to both the $Λ$--$Λ$ amplitude at threshold, and the coupling between the $Λ$--$Λ$ and $Ξ$--$N$ channels. The latter is a result of interference… ▽ More

$^{6}_{ΛΛ}$He as a $ΛΛ$ interaction constraint

Soft core repulsion is introduced to regularize the singular nature of the OBE functions. The strength of the $^1$S$_0$ $t=0$ interaction is adjusted to model three scenarios: (1) a bound state, (2) a narrow virtual, or antibound, state, and (3) an unbound state in which the force is weak… ▽ More

Abstract: We present an atlas of moderate resolution ($λ/Δλ\sim$1380) 2.15~\micron\ to 2.39~\micron\ spectra of 33 luminosity class V stars of spectral type F3 to M6 in the MK classification system. Observation of Infrared and Radio Lines of Molecules toward GL2591 and Comparison to Physical and Chemical Models
