Measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$

Abstract: A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be… ▽ More A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)) = (1.480 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.024)\times\,10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)) = (1.557 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.038)\times\,10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both results are compatible within their uncorrelated systematic uncertainties. The combined result is $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η)=(1.495 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.023)\times\,10^{-3}$ where the first uncertainty is the combined statistical uncertainty and the second one the combined systematic uncertainty of both analyses, incorporating correlations between them. Heisenberg Spin-1/2 Antiferromagnetic Molecular Chains

Abstract: Carbon-based nanostructures possessing π-electron magnetism have attracted tremendous interest due to their great potential for nano spintronics. In particular, quantum chains with magnetic molecular units synthesized by on-surface reactions provide an ideal playground for investigating magnetic exchange interactions between localized spin components. Here, we present an extensive study of antifer… ▽ More Carbon-based nanostructures possessing π-electron magnetism have attracted tremendous interest due to their great potential for nano spintronics. Here, we present an extensive study of antiferromagnetic nanographene chains with the diazahexabenzocoronene molecule as the repeating unit. A combination of bond-resolved scanning tunneling microscopy, density functional theory and quantum spin models revealed their detailed structures and electronic and magnetic properties. We found that the antiferromagnetic chains host a collective state featuring gapped excitations for an even number of repeating units and one featuring a Kondo excitation for an odd number. Comparing with exact many-body quantum spin models, our molecular chains provide the realization of an entangled quantum Heisenberg model. Coupled with the tunability of the molecular building blocks, these systems can act as an ideal platform for the experimental realization of topological spin lattices. △ Less

Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm 0.14)\times10^8$ $ψ(3686)$ decays and data samples of $e^+e^-$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.130 to 4.780~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz transition $h_c\to e^+e^-η_c$ with a statistical significance of $5.4σ$. Abstract: Analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $7.33~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay $D^+_{s}\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $(2.98\pm0.23\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$. The $D_s^+\to K^0$ hadronic form factor is determined from the differential decay rate of $D^+_s\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $f^{K^0}_+(0)=0.636\pm0.049\pm0.013$. For both measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Observation of $η_{c}$(1S, 2S) and $χ_{cJ}$ decays to 2$(π^{+}π^{-})η$ via $ψ$(3686) radiative transitions

Abstract: Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measur… ▽ More Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measured in both destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the $η_{c}(1S)$ are measured to be $M=(2984.14 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.38)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=(28.82 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.82)$ MeV, respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)$ and the $η_{c}(2S)$ to $2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the $η_{c}(2S)$ and $η_{c}(1S)$ decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays. △ Less

Strong and weak $CP$ tests in sequential decays of polarized $Σ^0$ hyperons

The integrated luminosities of the data sets taken from December 2021 to June 2022, from November 2022 to June 2023, and from October 2023 to February 2024 are determined to be $4.995 \pm 0.019$~fb$^{-1}$,… ▽ More We present a measurement of the integrated luminosity of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy of $E_{\rm cm} = 3.773$~GeV. The integrated luminosities of the data sets taken from December 2021 to June 2022, from November 2022 to June 2023, and from October 2023 to February 2024 are determined to be $4.995 \pm 0.019$~fb$^{-1}$, $8.157 \pm 0.031$~fb$^{-1}$, and $4.191 \pm 0.016$~fb$^{-1}$, respectively, by analyzing large angle Bhabha scattering events. Abstract: Based on $(2712.4\pm 14.3)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events, we investigate four hadronic decay modes of the $P$-wave charmonium spin-singlet state $h_c(^1P_1) \to h^+ h^- π^0/η$ ($h=π$ or $K$) via the process $ψ(3686) \to π^{0}h_c$ at BESIII. The $h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0$ decay is observed with a significance of 9.6$σ$ after taking into account systematic uncertainties. The ratio $R_{h_c}=\frac{\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγη)}{\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγη^\prime)}$ is calculated to be $(27.0\pm4.4\pm1.0)\%$. The measurements are consistent with the previous results with improved precision by a factor of 2. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of $η-η^\prime$ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay $h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0}$, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of $\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0})<5.0\times10^{-5}$, at the 90\% confidence level. △ Less

Robust Implementation of Retrieval-Augmented Generation on Edge-based Computing-in-Memory Architectures

Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) deployed on edge devices learn through fine-tuning and updating a certain portion of their parameters. Although such learning methods can be optimized to reduce resource utilization, the overall required resources remain a heavy burden on edge devices. Instead, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), a resource-efficient LLM learning method, can improve the quality of th… ▽ More Large Language Models (LLMs) deployed on edge devices learn through fine-tuning and updating a certain portion of their parameters. Although such learning methods can be optimized to reduce resource utilization, the overall required resources remain a heavy burden on edge devices. Instead, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), a resource-efficient LLM learning method, can improve the quality of the LLM-generated content without updating model parameters. However, the RAG-based LLM may involve repetitive searches on the profile data in every user-LLM interaction. This search can lead to significant latency along with the accumulation of user data. Conventional efforts to decrease latency result in restricting the size of saved user data, thus reducing the scalability of RAG as user data continuously grows. It remains an open question: how to free RAG from the constraints of latency and scalability on edge devices? In this paper, we propose a novel framework to accelerate RAG via Computing-in-Memory (CiM) architectures. It accelerates matrix multiplications by performing in-situ computation inside the memory while avoiding the expensive data transfer between the computing unit and memory. Our framework, Robust CiM-backed RAG (RoCR), utilizing a novel contrastive learning-based training method and noise-aware training, can enable RAG to efficiently search profile data with CiM. Abstract: In the classic Correlation Clustering problem introduced by Bansal, Blum, and Chawla~(FOCS 2002), the input is a complete graph where edges are labeled either $+$ or $-$, and the goal is to find a partition of the vertices that minimizes the sum of the +edges across parts plus the sum of the -edges within parts. In recent years, Chawla, Makarychev, Schramm and Yaroslavtsev~(STOC 2015) gave a 2.06-approximation by providing a near-optimal rounding of the standard LP, and Cohen-Addad, Lee, Li, and Newman~(FOCS 2022, 2023) finally bypassed the integrality gap of 2 for this LP giving a $1.73$-approximation for the problem. In order to create a simple and unified framework for Correlation Clustering similar to those for {\em typical} approximate optimization tasks, we propose the {\em cluster LP} as a strong linear program that might tightly capture the approximability of Correlation Clustering. It unifies all the previous relaxations for the problem. We demonstrate the power of the cluster LP by presenting a simple rounding algorithm, and providing two analyses, one analytically proving a 1.49-approximation and the other solving a factor-revealing SDP to show a 1.437-approximation. Both proofs introduce principled methods by which to analyze the performance of the algorithm, resulting in a significantly improved approximation guarantee. Finally, we prove an integrality gap of $4/3$ for the cluster LP, showing our 1.437-upper bound cannot be drastically improved. Our gap instance directly inspires an improved NP-hardness of approximation with a ratio $24/23 \approx 1.042$; no explicit hardness ratio was known before. △ Less

With the $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ process, the branching fraction ratio $R\equiv\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toγJ/ψ)}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^- J/ψ)}$ is measured to be $0.38\pm0.20_\text{stat.}\pm0.01_\text{syst.}$ ($R< 0.83$ at 90\% confidence level). In addition, we measure the ratio of the average cross section of $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ to $e^+e^-\toωχ_{c1}(ωχ_{c2})$ to be $σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c1}}~(σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c2}})=5.2\pm1.0_\text{stat.}\pm1.9_\text{syst.}~ (5.5\pm1.1_\text{stat.}\pm2.4_\text{syst.})$. Finally, we search for the process of $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$, and no obvious signal is observed. Abstract: We report the first amplitude analysis of the decays $D^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} η$ and $D^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$ using a data sample taken with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.9 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. The contribution from the process $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{+} π^{-(0)}$ is significantly larger than the $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{-(0)} π^{+}$ contribution. The ratios $\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{-})/\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{-}π^{+})$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0})/\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+})$ are measured to be $7.5^{+2.5}_{-0.8\,\mathrm{stat.}}\pm1.7_{\mathrm{syst.}}$ and $2.6\pm0.6_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\mathrm{syst.}}$, respectively. The measured $D^{0}$ ratio disagrees with the theoretical predictions by orders of magnitudes, thus implying a substantial contribution from final-state interactions. △ Less

By requiring the $e^{+}e^{-}$ invariant mass to be consistent with a $φ(1020)$, $0.98<M(e^{+}e^{-})<1.04$ ~GeV/$c^2$, the decay… ▽ More Using 7.33~fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies in the range of $\sqrt{s}=4.128 - 4.226$~GeV, we search for the rare decays $D_{s}^+\to h^+(h^{0})e^{+}e^{-}$, where $h$ represents a kaon or pion. The decay branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(1.17^{+0.23}_{-0.21}\pm0.03)\times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toρ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(2.44^{+0.67}_{-0.62}\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant signal for the three four-body decays of $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-},\ D_{s}^{+}\to K^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, and $D_{s}^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed. For $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, the $φ$ mass region is vetoed to minimize the long-distance effects. The 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits set on the branching fractions of these decays are in the range of $(7.0-8.1)\times 10^{-5}$. △ Less

Search for di-photon decays of an axion-like particle in radiative J/ψdecays

Abstract: We search for the di-photon decay of a light pseudoscalar axion-like particle, $a$, in radiative $J/ψ$ decays, using 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. We find no evidence of a signal and set upper limits at the $95\%$ confidence level on the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γa) \times \mathcal{B}(a \to γγ)$ and the axion-like particle photon coupling constan… ▽ More We search for the di-photon decay of a light pseudoscalar axion-like particle, $a$, in radiative $J/ψ$ decays, using 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. We conceptualize plans as a sequence of questions which serve as blueprints of the generated content and its organization. We propose two attribution models that utilize different variants of blueprints, an abstractive model where questions are generated from scratch, and an extractive model where questions are copied from the input. Experiments on long-form question-answering show that planning consistently improves attribution quality. Moreover, the citations generated by blueprint models are more accurate compared to those obtained from LLM-based pipelines lacking a planning component. △ Less

In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- π^+)=(5.49 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.07)\%$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K_S^0 K^+)=(1.50 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.01)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- π^+ π^0)=(5.50 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.11)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. SpikeGraphormer: A High-Performance Graph Transformer with Spiking Graph Attention

Unfortunately, Graph Transformers are computationally expensive due to the quadratic complexity inherent in self-attention when applied over large-scale graphs, especially for node tasks. In contrast, spiking neural ne… ▽ More Recently, Graph Transformers have emerged as a promising solution to alleviate the inherent limitations of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and enhance graph representation performance. Unfortunately, Graph Transformers are computationally expensive due to the quadratic complexity inherent in self-attention when applied over large-scale graphs, especially for node tasks. In contrast, spiking neural networks (SNNs), with event-driven and binary spikes properties, can perform energy-efficient computation. In this work, we propose a novel insight into integrating SNNs with Graph Transformers and design a Spiking Graph Attention (SGA) module. The matrix multiplication is replaced by sparse addition and mask operations. The linear complexity enables all-pair node interactions on large-scale graphs with limited GPU memory. To our knowledge, our work is the first attempt to introduce SNNs into Graph Transformers. Furthermore, we design SpikeGraphormer, a Dual-branch architecture, combining a sparse GNN branch with our SGA-driven Graph Transformer branch, which can simultaneously perform all-pair node interactions and capture local neighborhoods. SpikeGraphormer consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches across various datasets and makes substantial improvements in training time, inference time, and GPU memory cost (10 ~ 20x lower than vanilla self-attention). The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an a… ▽ More We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$. △ Less

The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February… ▽ More In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content. △ Less

The Maintenance of Coherent Vortex Topology by Lagrangian Chaos in Drift-Rossby Wave Turbulence

Abstract: This work introduces the "potential vorticity bucket brigade," a mechanism for explaining the resilience of vortex structures in magnetically confined fusion plasmas and geophysical flows. Drawing parallels with zonal jet formation, we show how inhomogeneous patterns of mixing can reinforce, rather than destroy non-zonal flow structure. No significant signal is observed and the upper limit of the… ▽ More Using a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the production of deuterons and antideuterons via $e^+e^-\to ppπ^-\bar{d}+c.c.$ for the first time at center-of-mass energies between 4.13 and 4.70 GeV. Abstract: With a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-l^+l^-(l=e,$ $μ)$ via the process $J/ψ\rightarrowγη'$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(2.45\pm0.02(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.})) \times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-)=(2.16\pm0.12(\rm{stat.})\pm0.06(\rm{syst.}))\times10^{-5}$, and the ratio is $\frac{\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}e^{+}e^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-})} = 113.4\pm0.9(\rm{stat.})\pm3.7(\rm{syst.})$. In addition, by combining the $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ and $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-$ decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be $b_{η'}=1.30\pm0.19\ (\mathrm{GeV}/c^{2})^{-2}$, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the $π^+π^-$ and $l^+l^-$ decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the $CP$-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(-0.21\pm0.73(\rm{stat.})\pm0.01(\rm{syst.}))\%$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-)=(0.62\pm4.71(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.}))\%$, implying that no evidence of $CP$-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of $0-500\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$. △ Less

Abstract: Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the cross section of the inclusive process $e^{+}e^{-} \to η+ X$, normalized by the total cross section of $e^{+}e^{-} \to \text{hadrons}$, is measured at eight center-of-mass energy points from 2.0000 GeV to 3.6710 GeV. These are the first measurements with momentum dependence in this energy region. These are the first measurements with momentum dependence in this energy region. Our measurement shows a significant discrepancy from calculations with the existing fragmentation functions. To address this discrepancy, a new QCD analysis is performed at the next-to-next-to-leading order with hadron mass corrections and higher twist effects, which can explain both the established high-energy data and our measurements reasonably well. △ Less
