Promotions are becoming more important and prevalent in e-commerce to attract customers and boost sales, leading to frequent changes of occasions, which drives users to behave differently. In such situations, most existing Click-Through Rate (CTR) models can't generalize well to online serving due to distribution uncertainty of the upcoming occasion. In this paper, we propose a novel CTR model named MOEF for recommendations under frequent changes of occasions. Firstly, we design a time series that consists of occasion signals generated from the online business scenario. Since occasion signals are more discriminative in the frequency domain, we apply Fourier Transformation to sliding time windows upon the time series, obtaining a sequence of frequency spectrum which is then processed by Occasion Evolution Layer (OEL). In this way, a high-order occasion representation can be learned to handle the online distribution uncertainty. Moreover, we adopt multiple experts to learn feature representations from multiple aspects, which are guided by the occasion representation via an attention mechanism. Accordingly, a mixture of feature representations is obtained adaptively for different occasions to predict the final CTR. Experimental results on real-world datasets validate the superiority of MOEF and online A/B tests also show MOEF outperforms representative CTR models significantly.

Realizing general-purpose language intelligence has been a longstanding goal for natural language processing, where standard evaluation benchmarks play a fundamental and guiding role. We argue that for general-purpose language intelligence evaluation, the benchmark itself needs to be comprehensive and systematic. To this end, we propose CUGE, a Chinese Language Understanding and Generation Evaluation benchmark with the following features: (1) Hierarchical benchmark framework, where datasets are principally selected and organized with a language capability-task-dataset hierarchy. (2) Multi-level scoring strategy, where different levels of model performance are provided based on the hierarchical framework. To facilitate CUGE, we provide a public leaderboard that can be customized to support flexible model judging criteria. Evaluation results on representative pre-trained language models indicate ample room for improvement towards general-purpose language intelligence. CUGE is publicly available at cuge.baai.ac.cn.

The quantum interference between the decays of entangled neutral kaons is studied in the process $φ\rightarrow K_S K_L \rightarrowπ^+π^-π^+π^-$, which exhibits the characteristic Einstein--Podolsky--Rosen correlations that prevent both kaons to decay into $π^+π^-$ at the same time. This constitutes a very powerful tool for testing at the utmost precision the quantum coherence of the entangled kaon pair state, and to search for tiny decoherence and CPT violation effects, which may be justified in a quantum gravity framework. The analysed data sample was collected with the KLOE detector at DA$Φ$NE, the Frascati $φ$-factory, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 1.7 fb$^{-1}$, i.e. to about $1.7 \times 10^9$ $φ\rightarrow K_S K_L$ decays produced. From the fit of the observed $Δt$ distribution, being $Δt$ the difference of the kaon decay times, the decoherence and CPT violation parameters of various phenomenological models are measured with a largely improved accuracy with respect to previous analyses. The results are consistent with no deviation from quantum mechanics and CPT symmetry, while for some parameters the precision reaches the interesting level at which -- in the most optimistic scenarios -- quantum gravity effects might show up. They provide the most stringent limits up to date on the considered models.

Photocurrent (PC) measurements can reveal the relaxation dynamics of photo-excited hot carriers beyond the linear response of conventional transport experiments, a regime important for carrier multiplication. In graphene subject to a magnetic field, PC measurements are able to probe the existence of Landau levels with different edge chiralities which is exclusive to relativistic electron systems. Here, we report the accurate measurement of PC in graphene in the quantum Hall regime. Prominent PC oscillations as a function of gate voltage on samples' edges are observed. These oscillation amplitudes form an envelope which depends on the strength of the magnetic field, as does the PCs' power dependence and their saturation behavior. We explain these experimental observations through a model using optical Bloch equations, incorporating relaxations through acoustic-, optical- phonons and Coulomb interactions. The simulated PC agrees with our experimental results, leading to a unified understanding of the chiral PC in graphene at various magnetic field strengths, and providing hints for the occurrence of a sizable carrier multiplication.

Flexible magnetic materials with robust and controllable perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) are highly desirable for develo** flexible high-performance spintronic devices. However, it is still challenge to fabricate PMA films through current techniques of direct deposition on polymers. Here, we report a facile method for synthesizing single-crystal freestanding SrRuO3 (SRO) membranes with controlled crystal structure and orientation using water-soluble Ca3-xSrxAl2O6 sacrificial layers. Through cooperative effect of crystal structure and orientation engineering, flexible SrRuO3 membranes reveal highly tunable magnetic anisotropy from in-plane to our-of-plane with a remarkable PMA energy of 7.34*106 erg/cm3. Based on the first-principles calculations, it reveals that the underlying mechanism of PMA modulation is intimately correlated with structure-controlled Ru 4d-orbital occupation, as well as the spin-orbital matrix element differences, dependent on the crystal orientation. In addition, there are no obvious changes of the magnetism after 10,000 bending cycles, indicating an excellent magnetism reliability in the prepared films. This work provides a feasible approach to prepare the flexible oxide films with strong and controllable PMA.

Mode-locked fiber lasers provide a versatile playground to study dissipative soliton (DS) dynamics. The corresponding studies not only give insights into soliton dynamics in dissipative systems, but also contribute to femtosecond fiber laser design. Recently, Mamyshev oscillators (MOs), which rely upon a pair of narrow filters with offset passing frequencies, have emerged as a promising candidate for high power, ultrabroad bandwidth pulse generation. To date, only stable mode-locking states in MOs have been reported. Here, we present a comprehensive experimental and numerical investigation of pulsating DSs in an ytterbium MO. By reducing the filter separation down to 4 nm, we observe pulsation in a single pulse state as well as a soliton molecule state. In the single pulse state, the output pulse energy can vary as large as 40 times in our MO. Single-shot spectra measured by the dispersive Fourier transform (DFT) method reveal the spectral bandwidth breathing during pulsation and enables the observation of soliton explosion in a pulsation state. In addition, pulsation with a period lasting 9 round trips and even a chaotic pulsation state are also observed. Numerical simulations based on a lumped model qualitatively agree with our observation. Our results enrich DS dynamics in MOs and show the impact of filter separation on the stability of MOs.

The results show that Ba2.87Sr0.13CoSb2O9 exhibits (i) a two-step magnetic transition at 2.7 K and 3.3 K, respectively; (ii) a possible canted 120-degree spin structure at zero field with reduced ordered moment as 1.24μB/Co; (iii) a series of spin state transitions for both H // ab-plane and H // c-axis. For H // ab-plane, the magnetization plateau feature related to the up-up-down phase is significantly suppressed; (iv) an inelastic neutron scattering spectrum with only one gapped mode at zero field, which splits to one gapless and one gapped mode at 9 T. All these features are distinctly different from those observed for the parent compound Ba3CoSb2O9, which demonstrates that the non-magnetic ion site disorder (the Sr do**) plays a complex role on the magnetic properties beyond the conventionally expected randomization of the exchange interactions. We propose the additional effects including the enhancement of quantum spin fluctuations and introduction of a possible spatial anisotropy through the local structural distortions.

We introduce a new landmark recognition dataset, which is created with a focus on fair worldwide representation. While previous work proposes to collect as many images as possible from web repositories, we instead argue that such approaches can lead to biased data. To create a more comprehensive and equitable dataset, we start by defining the fair relevance of a landmark to the world population. These relevances are estimated by combining anonymized Google Maps user contribution statistics with the contributors' demographic information. We present a stratification approach and analysis which leads to a much fairer coverage of the world, compared to existing datasets. The resulting datasets are used to evaluate computer vision models as part of the the Google Landmark Recognition and RetrievalChallenges 2021.

We propose OmniLytics, a blockchain-based secure data trading marketplace for machine learning applications. Utilizing OmniLytics, many distributed data owners can contribute their private data to collectively train an ML model requested by some model owners, and receive compensation for data contribution. OmniLytics enables such model training while simultaneously providing 1) model security against curious data owners; 2) data security against the curious model and data owners; 3) resilience to malicious data owners who provide faulty results to poison model training; and 4) resilience to malicious model owners who intend to evade payment. OmniLytics is implemented as a blockchain smart contract to guarantee the atomicity of payment. In OmniLytics, a model owner splits its model into the private and public parts and publishes the public part on the contract. Through the execution of the contract, the participating data owners securely aggregate their locally trained models to update the model owner's public model and receive reimbursement through the contract. We implement a working prototype of OmniLytics on Ethereum blockchain and perform extensive experiments to measure its gas cost, execution time, and model quality under various parameter combinations. For training a CNN on the MNIST dataset, the MO is able to boost its model accuracy from 62% to 83% within 500ms in blockchain processing time. This demonstrates the effectiveness of OmniLytics for practical deployment.

Notwithstanding that the conventional theory of axion electrodynamics presented in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 51, 1415 (1983) and J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 19, L33 (1986)] is more commonly used in haloscope theory, we show that the dual symmetric axion electrodynamics has more advantages to apply to haloscope theory. First, the dual symmetric and conventional perspectives of axion electrodynamics coincide under long-wavelength approximation. Moreover, dual symmetric theory can obtain an exact analytical expression of the axion-induced electromagnetic field for any state of axion. This solution has been used in conventional theory for long-wavelength approximation. The difference between two theories can occur in directional axion detection or electric sensing haloscopes. For illustrative purposes, we consider the various type of resonant cavities: cylindrical solenoid, spherical solenoid, two-parallel-sheet cavity, toroidal solenoid with a rectangular cross-section, and with a circular cross-section. The resonance of the axion-induced signal, as well as the ratio of the energy difference over the stored energy inside the cavity, are investigated in these types of cavity.

We have grown single crystals of Na$_2$BaNi(PO$_4$)$_2$, a new spin-1 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet (ETLAF), and performed magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and thermal conductivity measurements at ultralow temperatures. The main results are (i) at zero magnetic field, Na$_2$BaNi(PO$_4$)$_2$ exhibits a magnetic ordering at 430 mK with a weak ferromagnetic moment along the $c$ axis. This suggests a canted 120$^\circ$ spin structure, which is in a plane including the crystallographic $c$ axis due to the existence of an easy-axis anisotropy and ferromagnetically stacked along the $c$ axis; (ii) with increasing field along the $c$ axis, a 1/3 magnetization plateau is observed which means the canted 120$^\circ$ spin structure is transformed to a up up down (UUD) spin structure. With even higher fields, the UUD phase further evolves to possible V and V' phases; (iii) with increasing field along the $a$ axis, the canted 120$^\circ$ spin structure is possibly transformed to a umbrella phase and a V phase. Therefore, Na$_2$BaNi(PO$_4$)$_2$ is a rare example of spin-1 ETLAF with single crystalline form to exhibit easy-axis spin anisotropy and series of quantum spin state transitions.

Previous literatures show that pre-trained masked language models (MLMs) such as BERT can achieve competitive factual knowledge extraction performance on some datasets, indicating that MLMs can potentially be a reliable knowledge source. In this paper, we conduct a rigorous study to explore the underlying predicting mechanisms of MLMs over different extraction paradigms. By investigating the behaviors of MLMs, we find that previous decent performance mainly owes to the biased prompts which overfit dataset artifacts. Furthermore, incorporating illustrative cases and external contexts improve knowledge prediction mainly due to entity type guidance and golden answer leakage. Our findings shed light on the underlying predicting mechanisms of MLMs, and strongly question the previous conclusion that current MLMs can potentially serve as reliable factual knowledge bases.

The statistical results show that (1) the ID occurrence rate decreases from 200 events/day at 0.13 au to 1 events/day at 0.9 au, following a spatial scaling r-2.00, (2) the RD to TD ratio decreases quickly with the heliocentric distance, from 8 at r<0.3 au to 1 at r>0.4 au, (3) the magnetic field tends to rotate across the IDs, 45° for TDs and 30° for RDs in the pristine solar wind within 0.3 au, (4) a special subgroup of RDs exist within 0.3 au, characterized by small field rotation angles and parallel or antiparallel propagations to the background magnetic fields, (5) the TD thicknesses normalized by local ion inertial lengths (di) show no clear spatial scaling and generally range from 5 to 35 di, and the normalized RD thicknesses follow r-1.09 spatial scaling, (6) the outward (anti-sunward) propagating RDs predominate in all RDs, with the propagation speeds in the plasma rest frame proportional to r-1.03. This work could improve our understandings for the ID characteristics and evolutions and shed light on the study of the turbulent environment in the pristine solar wind.

Wireless blockchain network is proposed to enable a decentralized and safe wireless networks for various blockchain applications. To achieve blockchain consensus in wireless network, one of the important steps is to broadcast new block using wireless channel. Under wireless network protocols, the block transmitting will be affected significantly. In this work, we focus on the consensus process in blockchain-based wireless local area network (B-WLAN) by investigating the impact of the media access control (MAC) protocol, CSMA/CA. With the randomness of the backoff counter in CSMA/CA, it is possible for latter blocks to catch up or outpace the earlier one, which complicates blockchain forking problem. In view of this, we propose mining strategies to pause mining for reducing the forking probability, and a discard strategy to remove the forking blocks that already exist in CSMA/CA backoff procedure. Based on the proposed strategies, we design Block Access Control (BAC) approaches to effectively schedule block mining and transmitting for improving the performance of B-WLAN. Then, Markov chain models are presented to conduct performance analysis in B-WLAN. The results show that BAC approaches can help the network to achieve a high transaction throughput while improving block utilization and saving computational power. Meanwhile, the trade-off between transaction throughput and block utilization is demonstrated, which can act as a guidance for practical deployment of blockchain.

Introducing blockchain into Federated Learning (FL) to build a trusted edge computing environment for transmission and learning has attracted widespread attention as a new decentralized learning pattern. However, traditional consensus mechanisms and architectures of blockchain systems face significant challenges in handling large-scale FL tasks, especially on Internet of Things (IoT) devices, due to their substantial resource consumption, limited transaction throughput, and complex communication requirements. To address these challenges, this paper proposes ChainFL, a novel two-layer blockchain-driven FL system. It splits the IoT network into multiple shards within the subchain layer, effectively reducing the scale of information exchange, and employs a Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG)-based mainchain as the mainchain layer, enabling parallel and asynchronous cross-shard validation. Furthermore, the FL procedure is customized to integrate deeply with blockchain technology, and a modified DAG consensus mechanism is designed to mitigate distortion caused by abnormal models. To provide a proof-of-concept implementation and evaluation, multiple subchains based on Hyperledger Fabric and a self-developed DAG-based mainchain are deployed. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ChainFL significantly surpasses conventional FL systems, showing up to a 14% improvement in training efficiency and a threefold increase in robustness.

Due to the distributed characteristics of Federated Learning (FL), the vulnerability of global model and coordination of devices are the main obstacle. As a promising solution of decentralization, scalability and security, leveraging blockchain in FL has attracted much attention in recent years. However, the traditional consensus mechanisms designed for blockchain like Proof of Work (PoW) would cause extreme resource consumption, which reduces the efficiency of FL greatly, especially when the participating devices are wireless and resource-limited. In order to address device asynchrony and anomaly detection in FL while avoiding the extra resource consumption caused by blockchain, this paper introduces a framework for empowering FL using Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG)-based blockchain systematically (DAG-FL). Accordingly, DAG-FL is first introduced from a three-layer architecture in details, and then two algorithms DAG-FL Controlling and DAG-FL Updating are designed running on different nodes to elaborate the operation of DAG-FL consensus mechanism. After that, a Poisson process model is formulated to discuss that how to set deployment parameters to maintain DAG-FL stably in different federated learning tasks. The extensive simulations and experiments show that DAG-FL can achieve better performance in terms of training efficiency and model accuracy compared with the typical existing on-device federated learning systems as the benchmarks.

A seminal gedankenexperiment by Laughlin describes the charge transport in quantum Hall systems via the pum** of flux. Here, we propose an optical scheme which probes and manipulates quantum Hall systems in a similar way: When light containing orbital angular momentum interacts with electronic Landau levels, it acts as a flux pump which radially moves the electrons through the sample. We investigate this effect for a graphene system with Corbino geometry, and calculate the radial current in the absence of any electric potential bias. Remarkably, the current is robust against the disorder which is consistent with the lattice symmetry, and in the weak excitation limit, the current shows a power-law scaling with intensity characterized by the novel exponent 2/3.

We study circular Airy vortex beams (CAVBs) with two same or opposite point vortices symmetrically loaded on x-axis, inside, onside and outside of the main ring (The absolute value of topological charge is one). It is found that the loading position (denoted as dv) can significantly tune the auto-focusing behaviour. For two vortices with same signs, when dv is near zero, the double vortices approximately merge at the focal plane. But as dv increases, the merged vortices will gradually separate along the y-axis. When dv is large, the focal spot becomes Bessel-shaped pattern. For opposite vortices, when dv is small, the focusing pattern is Bessel-shaped (no vortex exists in the centre) but not strictly in the centre. With the increase of dv, the original spot gradually moves up along the y-axis and transfers its energy to the newborn spot below x-axis, at the same time, the newborn spot moves towards the centre. When dv is large, the focus returns to a Bessel-like pattern. Good agreements have been achieved between simulations and experiments. The tailoring effect of dv of the two vortices on the focal pattern may have potential applications in micromanipulation, communication and other fields.

Electric fields commonly exist in semiconductor structures of electronics, bringing to bear on phonon thermal transport. Also, it is a popular method to tune thermal transport in solids. In this work, phonon and thermal transport properties of GaN with wurtzite and zincblende structures at finite electric field are investigated using first principles calculations from perspectives of symmetry breaking and lattice deformation. Effects of electric field on phonon transport properties including phonon dispersion and thermal conductivity from response of electron density distribution only and response from lattice changes are studied in zincblende GaN. It is found that the former has a small but qualitative impact on phonon dispersion relations, i.e., splitting of phonon branches, since it breaks symmetry of zincblende lattice. While the latter affects both lattice symmetry and size, causing significant changes of phonon properties and increase of thermal conductivity. In wurtzite GaN, space-group-conserved lattice changes at finite electric field are studied with lattice deformation only, where thermal conductivity decreases at electric fields significantly with increase of anisotropy, much different from the changes in zincblende GaN. This work provides a comprehensive understanding on phonon thermal transport properties in GaN at finite electric field, which promises to benefit phonon transport tuning and provide reference for thermal management in GaN-based information and power electronics.

Blockchain is built on a peer-to-peer network that relies on frequent communications among the distributively located nodes. In particular, the consensus mechanisms (CMs), which play a pivotal role in blockchain, are communication resource-demanding and largely determines blockchain security bound and other key performance metrics such as transaction throughput, latency and scalability. Most blockchain systems are designed in a stable wired communication network running in advanced devices under the assumption of sufficient communication resource provision. However, it is envisioned that the majority of the blockchain node peers will be connected through the wireless network in the future. Constrained by the highly dynamic wireless channel and scarce frequency spectrum, communication can significantly affect blockchain's key performance metrics. Hence, in this paper, we present wireless blockchain networks (WBN) under various commonly used CMs and we answer the question of how much communication resource is needed to run such a network. We first present the role of communication in the four stages of the blockchain procedure. We then discuss the relationship between the communication resource provision and the WBNs performance, for three of the most used blockchain CMs namely, Proof-of-Work (PoW), practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant (PBFT) and Raft. Finally, we provide analytical and simulated results to show the impact of the communication resource provision on blockchain performance.

Tuning thermal transport in semiconductor nanostructures is of great significance for thermal management in information and power electronics. With excellent transport properties, such as ballistic transport, immunity to point defects and disorders, and forbidden backscattering, topological phonon surface states show remarkable potential in addressing this issue. Herein, topological phonon analyses are performed on hexagonal wurtzite GaN to check the topological characteristics of phonons. And other nitrides of the same family, i.e., AlN and AlGaN alloy, are also calculated from a topological phonon phase transition perspective. With the aid of first-principle calculations and topological phonon theory, Weyl phonon states, which host surfaces states without backscattering, are investigated for all these materials. The results show that there is no nontrivial topological phonon state in GaN. However, by introducing Al atoms, i.e., in wurtzite type AlN and AlGaN, more than one Weyl phonon point is found, confirmed by obvious topological characteristics, including non-zero integer topological charges, source/sink in Berry curvature distributions, surface local density of states and surface arcs. As AlN and AlGaN are typical materials in AlGaN/GaN heterostructure based electronics, the existence of topological phonon states in them will benefit thermal management by facilitating the design of one-way interfacial phonon transport without backscattering.

Group IV alloys have been long viewed as homogeneous random solid solutions since they were first perceived as Si-compatible, direct-band-gap semiconductors 30 years ago. Such a perception underlies the understanding, interpretation and prediction of alloys' properties. However, as the race to create scalable and tunable device materials enters a composition domain far beyond alloys' equilibrium solubility, a fundamental question emerges as to how random these alloys truly are. Here we show, by combining statistical sampling and large-scale ab initio calculations, that GeSn alloy, a promising group IV alloy for mid-infrared technology, exhibits a clear, short-range order for solute atoms within its entire composition range. Such short-range order is further found to substantially affect the electronic properties of GeSn. We demonstrate the proper inclusion of this short-range order through canonical sampling can lead to a significant improvement over previous predictions on alloy's band gaps, by showing an excellent agreement with experiments within the entire studied composition range. Our finding thus not only calls for an important revision of current structural model for group IV alloy, but also suggests short-range order may generically exist in different types of alloys.

An investigation of the structural, magnetic, thermodynamic, and charge transport properties of non-centrosymmetric hexagonal ScFeGe reveals it to be an anisotropic metal with a transition to a weak itinerant incommensurate helimagnetic state below $T_N = 36$ K. Neutron diffraction measurements discovered a temperature and field independent helical wavevector \textbf{\textit{k}} = (0 0 0.193) with magnetic moments of 0.53 $μ_{B}$ per formula unit confined to the {\it ab}-plane. Density functional theory calculations are consistent with these measurements and find several bands that cross the Fermi level along the {\it c}-axis with a nearly degenerate set of flat bands just above the Fermi energy. The anisotropy found in the electrical transport is reflected in the calculated Fermi surface, which consists of several warped flat sheets along the $c$-axis with two regions of significant nesting, one of which has a wavevector that closely matches that found in the neutron diffraction. The electronic structure calculations, along with a strong anomaly in the {\it c}-axis conductivity at $T_N$, signal a Fermi surface driven magnetic transition, similar to that found in spin density wave materials. Magnetic fields applied in the {\it ab}-plane result in a metamagnetic transition with a threshold field of $\approx$ 6.7 T along with a sharp, strongly temperature dependent, discontinuity and a change in sign of the magnetoresistance for in-plane currents. Thus, ScFeGe is an ideal system to investigate the effect of in-plane magnetic fields on an easy-plane magnetic system, where the relative strength of the magnetic interactions and anisotropies determine the topology and magnetic structure.

Cubic spinel GeNi2O4 exhibits intriguing magnetic properties with two successive antiferromagnetic phase transitions (TN1 12.1 and TN2 11.4 K) with the absence of any structural transition. We have performed detailed heat capacity and magnetic measurements in different crystallographic orientations. A new magnetic phase in presence of magnetic field (H > 4 T) along the [111] direction is revealed, which is not observed when the magnetic field is applied along the [100] and [110] directions. High field neutron powder diffraction measurements confirm such a change in magnetic phase, which could be ascribed to a spin reorientation in the presence of magnetic field. A strong magnetic anisotropy and competing magnetic interactions play a crucial role on the complex magnetic behavior in this cubic system.

We report field-induced magnetic phase transitions and transport properties of antiferromagnetic DyPtBi. We show that DyPtBi hosts a delicate balance between two different magnetic ground states, which can be controlled by a moderate magnetic field. Furthermore, it exhibits giant anomalous Hall effect (σ_A=1540 (ohm cm)^{-1},θ_{AHE} = 24%) in a field-induced Type-I spin structure, presumably attributed to the enhanced Berry curvature associated with avoided band-crossings near the Fermi energy and / or non-zero spin chirality. The latter mechanism points DyPtBi towards a rare potential realization of anomalous Hall effect in an antiferromagnet with face-center-cubic lattice that was proposed in [Physical Review Letters 87, 116801 (2001)].

TianQin is a planned space-based gravitational wave (GW) observatory consisting of three earth orbiting satellites with an orbital radius of about $10^5~{\rm km}$. The satellites will form a equilateral triangle constellation the plane of which is nearly perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. TianQin aims to detect GWs between $10^{-4}~{\rm Hz}$ and $1~{\rm Hz}$ that can be generated by a wide variety of important astrophysical and cosmological sources, including the inspiral of Galactic ultra-compact binaries, the inspiral of stellar-mass black hole binaries, extreme mass ratio inspirals, the merger of massive black hole binaries, and possibly the energetic processes in the very early universe or exotic sources such as cosmic strings. In order to start science operations around 2035, a roadmap called the 0123 plan is being used to bring the key technologies of TianQin to maturity, supported by the construction of a series of research facilities on the ground. Two major projects of the 0123 plan are being carried out. In this process, the team has created a new generation $17~{\rm cm}$ single-body hollow corner-cube retro-reflector which has been launched with the QueQiao satellite on 21 May 2018; a new laser ranging station equipped with a $1.2~{\rm m}$ telescope has been constructed and the station has successfully ranged to all the five retro-reflectors on the Moon; and the TianQin-1 experimental satellite has been launched on 20 December 2019 and the first round result shows that the satellite has exceeded all of its mission requirements.

No signal is observed in the $π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass spectrum, and the upper limit on the branching fraction at 90\% confidence level is determined to be ${\mathcal B}(η\toπ^{+}π^{-})<4.9\times10^{-6}$, which is approximately three times smaller than the previous KLOE result. Compounds with two-dimensional (2D) layers of magnetic ions weakly connected by van der Waals bonding offer routes to enhance quantum behavior, stimulating both fundamental and applied interest. CrPS4 is one such magnetic van der Waals material, however, it has undergone only limited investigation. Here we present a comprehensive series of neutron scattering measurements to determine the magnetic structure and exchange interactions. The observed magnetic excitations allow a high degree of constraint on the model parameters not normally associated with measurements on a powder sample. The results demonstrate the 2D nature of the magnetic interactions, while also revealing the importance of interactions along 1D chains within the layers. The subtle role of competing interactions is observed, which manifest in a non-trivial magnetic transition and a tunable magnetic structure in a small applied magnetic field through a spin-flop transition. Our results on the bulk compound provide insights that can be applied to an understanding of the behavior of reduced layer CrPS4.

Introduction: Endpoint choice for randomized controlled trials of treatments for COVID-19 is complex. A new disease brings many uncertainties, but trials must start rapidly. COVID-19 is heterogeneous, ranging from mild disease that improves within days to critical disease that can last weeks and can end in death. While improvement in mortality would provide unquestionable evidence about clinical significance of a treatment, sample sizes for a study evaluating mortality are large and may be impractical. Furthermore, patient states in between "cure" and "death" represent meaningful distinctions. Clinical severity scores have been proposed as an alternative. However, the appropriate summary measure for severity scores has been the subject of debate, particularly in relating to the uncertainty about the time-course of COVID-19. Outcomes measured at fixed time-points may risk missing the time of clinical benefit. An endpoint such as time-to-improvement (or recovery), avoids the timing problem. However, some have argued that power losses will result from reducing the ordinal scale to a binary state of "recovered" vs "not recovered."
Methods: We evaluate statistical power for possible trial endpoints for COVID-19 treatment trials using simulation models and data from two recent COVID-19 treatment trials.
Results: Power for fixed-time point methods depends heavily on the time selected for evaluation. Time-to-improvement (or recovery) analyses do not specify a time-point. Time-to-event approaches have reasonable statistical power, even when compared to a fixed time-point method evaluated at the optimal time.
Discussion: Time-to-event analyses methods have advantages in the COVID-19 setting, unless the optimal time for evaluating treatment effect is known in advance. Even when the optimal time is known, a time-to-event approach may increase power for interim analyses.

Heterogeneous face recognition (HFR) refers to matching face images acquired from different domains with wide applications in security scenarios. This paper presents a deep neural network approach namely Multi-Margin based Decorrelation Learning (MMDL) to extract decorrelation representations in a hyperspherical space for cross-domain face images. The proposed framework can be divided into two components: heterogeneous representation network and decorrelation representation learning. First, we employ a large scale of accessible visual face images to train heterogeneous representation network. The decorrelation layer projects the output of the first component into decorrelation latent subspace and obtains decorrelation representation. In addition, we design a multi-margin loss (MML), which consists of quadruplet margin loss (QML) and heterogeneous angular margin loss (HAML), to constrain the proposed framework. Experimental results on two challenging heterogeneous face databases show that our approach achieves superior performance on both verification and recognition tasks, comparing with state-of-the-art methods.

Adversarial examples are inputs with imperceptible perturbations that easily misleading deep neural networks(DNNs). Recently, adversarial patch, with noise confined to a small and localized patch, has emerged for its easy feasibility in real-world scenarios. However, existing strategies failed to generate adversarial patches with strong generalization ability. In other words, the adversarial patches were input-specific and failed to attack images from all classes, especially unseen ones during training. To address the problem, this paper proposes a bias-based framework to generate class-agnostic universal adversarial patches with strong generalization ability, which exploits both the perceptual and semantic bias of models. Regarding the perceptual bias, since DNNs are strongly biased towards textures, we exploit the hard examples which convey strong model uncertainties and extract a textural patch prior from them by adopting the style similarities. The patch prior is more close to decision boundaries and would promote attacks. To further alleviate the heavy dependency on large amounts of data in training universal attacks, we further exploit the semantic bias. As the class-wise preference, prototypes are introduced and pursued by maximizing the multi-class margin to help universal training. Taking AutomaticCheck-out (ACO) as the typical scenario, extensive experiments including white-box and black-box settings in both digital-world(RPC, the largest ACO related dataset) and physical-world scenario(Taobao and JD, the world' s largest online shop** platforms) are conducted. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed framework outperforms state-of-the-art adversarial patch attack methods.

While image retrieval and instance recognition techniques are progressing rapidly, there is a need for challenging datasets to accurately measure their performance -- while posing novel challenges that are relevant for practical applications. We introduce the Google Landmarks Dataset v2 (GLDv2), a new benchmark for large-scale, fine-grained instance recognition and image retrieval in the domain of human-made and natural landmarks. GLDv2 is the largest such dataset to date by a large margin, including over 5M images and 200k distinct instance labels. Its test set consists of 118k images with ground truth annotations for both the retrieval and recognition tasks. The ground truth construction involved over 800 hours of human annotator work. Our new dataset has several challenging properties inspired by real world applications that previous datasets did not consider: An extremely long-tailed class distribution, a large fraction of out-of-domain test photos and large intra-class variability. The dataset is sourced from Wikimedia Commons, the world's largest crowdsourced collection of landmark photos. We provide baseline results for both recognition and retrieval tasks based on state-of-the-art methods as well as competitive results from a public challenge. We further demonstrate the suitability of the dataset for transfer learning by showing that image embeddings trained on it achieve competitive retrieval performance on independent datasets. The dataset images, ground-truth and metric scoring code are available at https://github.com/cvdfoundation/google-landmark.

The sixth generation (6G) network must provide performance superior to previous generations in order to meet the requirements of emerging services and applications, such as multi-gigabit transmission rate, even higher reliability, sub 1 millisecond latency and ubiquitous connection for Internet of Everything. However, with the scarcity of spectrum resources, efficient resource management and sharing is crucial to achieve all these ambitious requirements. One possible technology to enable all of this is blockchain, which has recently gained significance and will be of paramount importance to 6G networks and beyond due to its inherent properties. In particular, the integration of blockchain in 6G will enable the network to monitor and manage resource utilization and sharing efficiently. Hence, in this article, we discuss the potentials of blockchain for resource management and sharing in 6G using multiple application scenarios namely, Internet of things, device-to-device communications, network slicing, and inter-domain blockchain ecosystems.

Drone-based vehicle detection aims at finding the vehicle locations and categories in an aerial image. It empowers smart city traffic management and disaster rescue. Researchers have made mount of efforts in this area and achieved considerable progress. Nevertheless, it is still a challenge when the objects are hard to distinguish, especially in low light conditions. To tackle this problem, we construct a large-scale drone-based RGB-Infrared vehicle detection dataset, termed DroneVehicle. Our DroneVehicle collects 28, 439 RGB-Infrared image pairs, covering urban roads, residential areas, parking lots, and other scenarios from day to night. Due to the great gap between RGB and infrared images, cross-modal images provide both effective information and redundant information. To address this dilemma, we further propose an uncertainty-aware cross-modality vehicle detection (UA-CMDet) framework to extract complementary information from cross-modal images, which can significantly improve the detection performance in low light conditions. An uncertainty-aware module (UAM) is designed to quantify the uncertainty weights of each modality, which is calculated by the cross-modal Intersection over Union (IoU) and the RGB illumination value. Furthermore, we design an illumination-aware cross-modal non-maximum suppression algorithm to better integrate the modal-specific information in the inference phase. Extensive experiments on the DroneVehicle dataset demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the proposed method for crossmodality vehicle detection. The dataset can be download from https://github.com/VisDrone/DroneVehicle.

It is noteworthy that chemical substitution of BaFe2As2 (122) with the noble elements Cu and Au gives superconductivity with a maximum Tc=3 K, while Ag substitution (Ag-122) stays antiferromagnetic. For Ba(Fe1-xTMx)2As2, TM= Cu, Au, or Ag, and by do** an amount of x=0.04, a-lattice parameter slightly increases (0.4%) for all TM dopants, while c-lattice decreases (-0.2%) for TM=Cu, barely moves (0.05%) for Au, and increases (0.2%) for Ag. Despite the naive expectation that the noble elements of group 11 should affect the quantum properties of 122 similarly, they produce significant differences extending to the character of the ground state. For the Ag-122 crystal, evidence of only a filamentary superconductivity is noted with pressure. However, for Au and Cu do** (x=0.03) we find a substantial improvement in the superconductivity, with Tc increasing to 7 K and 7.5 K, respectively, under 20 kbar of pressure. As with the ambient pressure results, the identity of the dopant therefore has a substantial impact on the ground state properties. Density functional theory calculations corroborate these results and find evidence of strong electronic scattering for Au and Ag dopants, while Cu is comparatively less disruptive to the 122 electronic structure.

Image retrieval is the problem of searching an image database for items that are similar to a query image. To address this task, two main types of image representations have been studied: global and local image features. In this work, our key contribution is to unify global and local features into a single deep model, enabling accurate retrieval with efficient feature extraction. We refer to the new model as DELG, standing for DEep Local and Global features. We leverage lessons from recent feature learning work and propose a model that combines generalized mean pooling for global features and attentive selection for local features. The entire network can be learned end-to-end by carefully balancing the gradient flow between two heads -- requiring only image-level labels. We also introduce an autoencoder-based dimensionality reduction technique for local features, which is integrated into the model, improving training efficiency and matching performance. Comprehensive experiments show that our model achieves state-of-the-art image retrieval on the Revisited Oxford and Paris datasets, and state-of-the-art single-model instance-level recognition on the Google Landmarks dataset v2. Sudden release of energy in explosion creates craters in granular media. In comparison with well-studied impact cratering in granular media, our understanding of explosion cratering is still primitive. Here, we study low-energy lab-scale explosion cratering in 3D granular media using controlled pulses of pressurized air. We identify four regimes of explosion cratering at different burial depths, which are associated with distinct explosion dynamics and result in different crater morphologies. We propose a general relation between the dynamics of granular flows and the surface structures of resulting craters. Moreover, we measure the diameter of explosion craters as a function of explosion pressures, durations and burial depths. We find that the size of craters is non-monotonic with increasing burial depths, reaching a maximum at an intermediate burial depth. In addition, the crater diameter shows a weak dependence on explosion pressures and durations at small burial depths. We construct a simple model to explain this finding. Finally, we explore the scaling relations of the size of explosion craters. Despite the huge difference in energy scales, we find that the diameter of explosion craters in our experiments follows the same cube root energy scaling as explosion cratering at high energies. We also discuss the dependence of rescaled crater sizes on the inertial numbers of granular flows. These results shed light onto the rich dynamics of 3D explosion cratering and provide new insights into the general physical principles governing granular cratering processes.

The $K_S$ mesons are identified by the interaction of $K_L$ mesons in the detector. The $K_S \to πμν$ decays are selected by a boosted decision tree built with kinematic variables and by a time-of-flight measurement. Signal efficiencies are evaluated with data control samples of $K_L \to πμν$ decays. A fit to the reconstructed muon mass distribution finds $7223 \pm 180$ signal events. Normalising to the $K_S \to π^+ π^-$ decay events the result for the branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(K_S \to πμν) = (4.56 \pm 0.11_{\rm stat} \pm 0.17_{\rm syst})\times10^{-4}$.

Magnetic frustration in Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ has been shown to produce to an unusual magnetic state below T$_N = 163$ K, where incommensurate antiferromagnetic order is restricted to nanosized needle-like domains, as inferred from neutron powder diffraction. Here we show using single-crystal neutron diffraction that Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ does not exhibit a preferred ordering wavevector direction in the $ab$ plane despite having a well-defined ordering wavevector length. This results in the observation of continuous rings of scattering rather than satellite Bragg peaks. The lack of a preferred incommensurate ordering wavevector direction can be understood in terms of an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with nearest-neighbor ($J_1$) and second-neighbor ($J_2$) interactions, which produces a quasi-degenerate manifold of ordering wavevectors. This state appears to be similar to the partially ordered phase of MnSi, but in Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ arises in a frustrated antiferromagnet rather than a chiral ferromagnet.

We study the analytic structure for the eigenvalues of the one-dimensional Dirac oscillator, by analytically continuing its frequency on the complex plane. A twofold Riemann surface is found, connecting the two states of a pair of particle and antiparticle. One can, at least in principle, accomplish the transition from a positive energy state to its antiparticle state by moving the frequency continuously on the complex plane, without changing the Hamiltonian after transition. This result provides a visual explanation for the absence of a negative energy state with the quantum number n=0.

Dental laser has been developed recently and gradually replaced the conventional dental treatment methods, especially in dental caries removal. The utility of laser in dentistry contributes to reduce the pain during surgery and decrease the risk of sequelae after surgery. Although bringing about several beneficial properties such as excellent directionality, high speed, ultra-tiny active area and tunable energy concentration, laser is still quite limited in dental surgery because of the difficulty in real-time high precision detection of laser focus during the operation. In this study, a cutting-edge optical system for real-time focus detection during dental laser operation employing the quantum entanglement of photon pairs created via spontaneous parametric downconversion (SPDC) is presented. Defocusing distance of the specimen which is used as the sample tooth can be determined precisely through spatial correlation of photons arriving at the detectors. The proposed technique can be applied to design automatic focus detection system for use in dental laser operation.

This paper presents a new optical system for detecting light signals associated with the change in incoming photon number. The system employs quantum correlation of photon pairs created via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC). The signal, if present, will perturb the flux of the incident photon stream. The perturbed photon stream is first projected through a birefringent crystal where SPDC occurs, converting a single high-energy photon into a pair of low energy photons. The photons in each pair eventually arrive at separate detectors. By examining the biphoton correlation using the probability distribution of the photons at the detectors, which varies depending on the displacement of the main pump photon stream and the change in the number of photons, the small optical displacement of the photon stream and its variance can be determined. The change in incident photon number, in other words, the presence of light signal does not influence the average of the measured optical displacement values. Nevertheless, the change in optical displacement measurement variance when the number of incident photons has changed detects the light signal. This optical setup enables the detection of light signals with low noise and remarkably high precision and sensitivity using quantum correlation. The proposed technique has potential application for axion-like particle search in experimental high energy physics.

Spin-valley locking in the band structure of monolayers of MoS$_2$ and other group-VI dichalcogenides has attracted enormous interest, since it offers potential for valleytronic and optoelectronic applications. Such an exotic electronic state has sparsely been seen in bulk materials. Here, we report spin-valley locking in a bulk Dirac semimetal BaMnSb$_2$. We find valley and spin are inherently coupled for both valence and conduction bands in this material. This is revealed by comprehensive studies using first principle calculations, tight-binding and effective model analyses, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and quantum transport measurements. Moreover, this material also exhibits a stacked quantum Hall effect. The spin-valley degeneracy extracted from the plateau height of quantized Hall resistivity is close to 2. This result, together with the observed Landau level spin splitting, further confirms the spin-valley locking picture. In the extreme quantum limit, we have also observed a two-dimensional chiral metal at the side surface, which represents a novel topological quantum liquid. These findings establish BaMnSb$_2$ as a rare platform for exploring coupled spin and valley physics in bulk single crystals and accessing 3D interacting topological states.

Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG)-based ledger and the corresponding consensus algorithm has been identified as a promising technology for Internet of Things (IoT). Compared with Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) that have been widely used in blockchain, the consensus mechanism designed on DAG structure (simply called as DAG consensus) can overcome some shortcomings such as high resource consumption, high transaction fee, low transaction throughput and long confirmation delay. However, the theoretic analysis on the DAG consensus is an untapped venue to be explored. To this end, based on one of the most typical DAG consensuses, Tangle, we investigate the impact of network load on the performance and security of the DAG-based ledger. Considering unsteady network load, we first propose a Markov chain model to capture the behavior of DAG consensus process under dynamic load conditions. The key performance metrics, i.e., cumulative weight and confirmation delay are analysed based on the proposed model. Then, we leverage a stochastic model to analyse the probability of a successful double-spending attack in different network load regimes. The results can provide an insightful understanding of DAG consensus process, e.g., how the network load affects the confirmation delay and the probability of a successful attack. Meanwhile, we also demonstrate the trade-off between security level and confirmation delay, which can act as a guidance for practical deployment of DAG-based ledgers.

We have synthesized single crystals of Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$ and characterized the structure and magnetic order by measuring anisotropic magnetic properties, heat capacity, x-ray and neutron single crystal diffraction. Magnetic properties and specific heat of polycrystalline Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$ were also measured for comparison. Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$ crystallizes in a monoclinic structure (space group $C2/m$) with [Co$_2$SbO$_6$]$^{3-}$ layers separated by Na$^+$ ions. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility shows significant anisotropic behavior in the whole temperature range 2\,K-350\,K investigated in this work. An effective moment of about 5.5\,$μ_B$/Co$^{2+}$ from a Curie-Weiss fitting of the magnetic susceptibility is larger than the spin only value and signals significant orbital contribution. Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$ single crystal undergoes a transition into a long-range antiferromagnetically ordered state below $T_N$=5\,K. Neutron single crystal diffraction confirmed the zigzag magnetic structure with a propagation vector k\,=\,(0.5, 0.5, 0). The ordered moment is found to be 0.9\,$μ_B$ at 4\,K and align along the crystallographic \textit{b}-axis. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the experimentally observed zigzag order is energetically competing with the Neel order. It is also found that the covalency between Co $d$ and O $p$ is quite strong and competes with the local spin-orbit coupling, suggesting a $J_{eff}$=1/2 ground state may not be realized in this compound.

Blockchain has been regarded as a promising technology for Internet of Things (IoT), since it provides significant solutions for decentralized network which can address trust and security concerns, high maintenance cost problem, etc. The decentralization provided by blockchain can be largely attributed to the use of consensus mechanism, which enables peer-to-peer trading in a distributed manner without the involvement of any third party. This article starts from introducing the basic concept of blockchain and illustrating why consensus mechanism plays an indispensable role in a blockchain enabled IoT system. Then, we discuss the main ideas of two famous consensus mechanisms including Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS), and list their limitations in IoT. Next, two mainstream Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG) based consensus mechanisms, i.e., the Tangle and Hashgraph, are reviewed to show why DAG consensus is more suitable for IoT system than PoW and PoS. Potential issues and challenges of DAG based consensus mechanism to be addressed in the future are discussed in the last.

In-depth analyses of existing direct numerical simulations (DNS) data from various sources supported a logical and important classification of generic turbulent boundary layers (TBL), namely Type-A, -B and -C TBL, based on distribution patterns of time-averaged wall-shear stress. Among these types, Type-A TBL and its related law, as represented by the DNS data of turbulence on a zero-pressure-gradient semi-infinite flat-plate, was investigated in terms of analytical formulations of velocity independent on Reynolds ( ) number. With reference to the analysis from von Karman in develo** the conventional law-of-the-wall, the current study first physically distinguished the time-averaged local scale used by von Karman from the ensemble-averaged scale defined in the paper, and then derived the governing equations with the -independency under the ensemble-averaged scales. Based on indicator function (IDF) and TBL thickness, the sublayer partitions were rigorously defined. The analytical formulations for entire TBL, namely the complete law-of-the-wall, were established, including the formula in inner, buffer, semi-logarithmic (semi-log) and wake layer. The researches were featured by introducing the general dam** and enhancing functions (GDF and GEF) and applying these functions to both linear and logarithmic coordinates. These law formulations were proved uniform and consistent in time-averaged local and ensemble-averaged scales, which were validated by the existing DNS and experiment data. Based on the similarity of relevant properly-scaled governing equations, the law formulations were logically reasoned being applicable to the temperature in Type-A thermal TBL. The findings advance the current understandings of the conventional TBL theory and its well-known foundations of law-of-the-wall.
