We analyse and characterise the notion of lattice Lipschitz operator (a class of superposition operators, diagonal Lipschitz maps) when defined between Banach function spaces. After showing some general results, we restrict our attention to the case of those Lipschitz operators which are representable by pointwise composition with a strongly measurable function. Mimicking the classical definition and characterizations of (linear) multiplication operators between Banach function spaces, we show that under certain conditions the requirement for a diagonal Lipschitz operator to be well-defined between two such spaces $X(μ)$ and $Y(μ)$ is that it can be represented by a strongly measurable function which belongs to the Bochner space $\mathcal M(X,Y) \big(μ, Lip_0(\mathbb R) \big). $ Here, $\mathcal M(X,Y) $ is the space of multiplication operators between $X(μ)$ and $Y(μ),$ and $Lip_0(\mathbb R)$ is the space of real-valued Lipschitz maps with real variable that are equal to $0$ in $0. $ This opens the door to a better understanding of these maps, as well as finding the relation of these operators to some normed tensor products and other classes of maps.

Index spaces serve as valuable metric models for studying properties relevant to various applications, such as social science or economics. These properties are represented by real Lipschitz functions that describe the degree of association with each element within the underlying metric space. After determining the index value within a given sample subset, the classic McShane and Whitney formulas allow a Lipschitz regression procedure to be performed to extend the index values over the entire metric space. To improve the adaptability of the metric model to specific scenarios, this paper introduces the concept of a composition metric, which involves composing a metric with an increasing, positive and subadditive function $φ$. The results presented here extend well-established results for Lipschitz indices on metric spaces to composition metrics. In addition, we establish the corresponding approximation properties that facilitate the use of this functional structure. To illustrate the power and simplicity of this mathematical framework, we provide a concrete application involving the modelling of livability indices in North American cities.

Lattice Lipschitz operators define a new class of nonlinear Banach-lattice-valued maps that can be written as diagonal functions with respect to a certain basis. In the $n-$dimensional case, such a map can be represented as a vector of size $n$ of real-valued functions of one variable. In this paper we develop a method to approximate almost diagonal maps by means of lattice Lipschitz operators. The proposed technique is based on the approximation properties and error bounds obtained for these operators, together with a pointwise version of the interpolation of McShane and Whitney extension maps that can be applied to almost diagonal functions. In order to get the desired approximation, it is necessary to previously obtain an approximation to the set of eigenvectors of the original function. We focus on the explicit computation of error formulas and on illustrative examples to present our construction.

This short report reviews the current state of the research and methodology on theoretical and practical aspects of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). It was prepared to gather state-of-the-art knowledge needed to construct complex, hypercomplex and fuzzy neural networks.
The report reflects the individual interests of the authors and, by now means, cannot be treated as a comprehensive review of the ANN discipline. Considering the fast development of this field, it is currently impossible to do a detailed review of a considerable number of pages.
The report is an outcome of the Project 'The Strategic Research Partnership for the mathematical aspects of complex, hypercomplex and fuzzy neural networks' meeting at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland, organized in September 2022.

Countries are recording health information on the global spread of COVID-19 using different methods, sometimes changing the rules after a few days. They are all publishing the number of new individuals infected, cured and dead, along with some supplementary data. These figures are often recorded in a non-uniform manner and do not match the standard definitions of these variables. However, in this paper we show that the Kaplan-Meier curves calculated with them could provide useful information about the dynamics of the disease in different countries. Our aim is to present a robust and simple model to show certain characteristics of the evolution of the dynamic process, showing that the differences of evolution among the countries is reflected in the corresponding Kaplan-Meier-type curves. We compare the curves obtained for the most affected countries so far, proposing possible interpretations of the properties that distinguish them.

We consider a quasi-metric topological structure for the construction of a new reinforcement learning model in the framework of financial markets. It is based on a Lipschitz type extension of reward functions defined in metric spaces. Specifically, the McShane and Whitney extensions are considered for a reward function which is defined by the total evaluation of the benefits produced by the investment decision at a given time. We define the metric as a linear combination of a Euclidean distance and an angular metric component. All information about the evolution of the system from the beginning of the time interval is used to support the extension of the reward function, but in addition this data set is enriched by adding some artificially produced states. Thus, the main novelty of our method is the way we produce more states -- which we call "dreams" -- to enrich learning. Using some known states of the dynamical system that represents the evolution of the financial market, we use our technique to simulate new states by interpolating real states and introducing some random variables. These new states are used to feed a learning algorithm designed to improve the investment strategy by following a typical reinforcement learning scheme.

Abstract:
Given a set $Ω$ and a proximity function $φ: Ω\times Ω\to \mathbb R^+$, we define a new metric for $Ω$ by considering a path distance in $Ω$, that is considered as a complete graph. We analyze the properties of such a distance, and several procedures for defining the initial proximity matrix $( φ(a,b) )_{(a,b) \in Ω\times Ω}.$ Our motivation has its roots in the current interest in finding effecti…

We analyze the properties of such a distance, and several procedures for defining the initial proximity matrix $( φ(a,b) )_{(a,b) \in Ω\times Ω}.$ Our motivation has its roots in the current interest in finding effective algorithms for detecting and classifying relations among elements of a social network. For example, the analysis of a set of companies working for a given public administration or other figures in which automatic fraud detection systems are needed. Using this formalism, we state our main idea regarding fraud detection, that is founded in the fact that fraud can be detected because it produces a meaningful local change of density in the metric space defined in this way.
