Introducing disorder in a system typically breaks symmetries and can introduce dramatic changes in its properties such as localization. At the same time, the clean system can have distinct many-body features depending on how chaotic it is. In this work the effect of permutation symmetry breaking by disorder is studied in a system which has a controllable and deterministic regular to chaotic transition. Results indicate a continuous phase transition from an area-law to a volume-law entangled phase irrespective of whether there is chaos or not, as the strength of the disorder is increased. The critical disorder strength obtained by finite size scaling, indicate a strong dependence on whether the clean system is regular or chaotic to begin with. In the process, we also obtain the critical exponents associated with this phase transition. Additionally, we find that a relatively small disorder is seen to be sufficient to delocalize a chaotic system.

We present the spectral and timing analyses of \textit{AstroSat} observations of the Black Hole X-ray Binary GX 339-4 when the source was close the peak of the outburst in 2024. We find that both the spectral and timing variability of the source is indicative of it in its steep power law (SPL) state during the observations. We used phenomenological and physical models to understand the physics and geometry of accretion during this spectral state of the source. Spectral fits indicate the presence of an accretion disc with a temperature of $kT\sim$0.82 keV and a hot corona with a spectral index of $\sim$2.2 along with a significant contribution from iron line emission from the accretion disc. Strong QPOs were detected at $\sim$4.6 Hz in the Power Density Spectra of the source along with a harmonics feature. Time and phase lag at the QPO frequency are studied and we find a hard lag at the QPO frequency and at the same time a soft lag at the harmonic frequency. We estimate the spin of the black hole and it was found that $a = 0.99 \pm 0.003$. The height of the coronal region is estimated to be about 2.5 $R_{g}$, which is found to be similar to that observed during the previous outbursts of the source. We attempt to discuss the possible physical scenario for the observed spectral and timing features exhibited by the source.

In Generalized Category Discovery (GCD), we cluster unlabeled samples of known and novel classes, leveraging a training dataset of known classes. A salient challenge arises due to domain shifts between these datasets. To address this, we present a novel setting: Across Domain Generalized Category Discovery (AD-GCD) and bring forth CDAD-NET (Class Discoverer Across Domains) as a remedy. CDAD-NET is architected to synchronize potential known class samples across both the labeled (source) and unlabeled (target) datasets, while emphasizing the distinct categorization of the target data. To facilitate this, we propose an entropy-driven adversarial learning strategy that accounts for the distance distributions of target samples relative to source-domain class prototypes. Parallelly, the discriminative nature of the shared space is upheld through a fusion of three metric learning objectives. In the source domain, our focus is on refining the proximity between samples and their affiliated class prototypes, while in the target domain, we integrate a neighborhood-centric contrastive learning mechanism, enriched with an adept neighborsmining approach. To further accentuate the nuanced feature interrelation among semantically aligned images, we champion the concept of conditional image inpainting, underscoring the premise that semantically analogous images prove more efficacious to the task than their disjointed counterparts. Experimentally, CDAD-NET eclipses existing literature with a performance increment of 8-15% on three AD-GCD benchmarks we present.

In federated learning (FL), the significant communication overhead due to the slow convergence speed of training the global model poses a great challenge. Specifically, a large number of communication rounds are required to achieve the convergence in FL. One potential solution is to employ the Newton-based optimization method for training, known for its quadratic convergence rate. However, the existing Newton-based FL training methods suffer from either memory inefficiency or high computational costs for local clients or the server. To address this issue, we propose an FL with approximated global Hessian (FAGH) method to accelerate FL training. FAGH leverages the first moment of the approximated global Hessian and the first moment of the global gradient to train the global model. By harnessing the approximated global Hessian curvature, FAGH accelerates the convergence of global model training, leading to the reduced number of communication rounds and thus the shortened training time. Experimental results verify FAGH's effectiveness in decreasing the number of communication rounds and the time required to achieve the pre-specified objectives of the global model performance in terms of training and test losses as well as test accuracy. Notably, FAGH outperforms several state-of-the-art FL training methods.

The equilibrium resulting in a recombining plasma with arbitrary metallicity Z, heated by a mean radiation field E as well as by sound waves dissipation due to thermal conduction, dynamic and bulk viscosity is analyzed. Generally, the heating by acoustic waves dissipation induces drastic changes in the range of temperature where the thermochemical equilibrium may exist. An additional equilibrium state appears which is characterized by a lower ionization and higher gas pressure than the equilibrium resulting when the wave dissipation is neglected. The above effects are sensibly to the values of the gas parameters as well as the wavelength and intensity of the acoustic waves. Implications in the interstellar gas, in particular, in the high velocity clouds are outlined.

We present multi-wavelength photometry and spectroscopy of SN 2022jli, an unprecedented Type Ic supernova discovered in the galaxy NGC 157 at a distance of $\approx$ 23 Mpc. The multi-band light curves reveal many remarkable characteristics. Peaking at a magnitude of $g=15.11\pm0.02$, the high-cadence photometry reveals 12.5$\pm0.2\ $day periodic undulations superimposed on the 200 day supernova decline. This periodicity is observed in the light curves from nine separate filter and instrument configurations with peak-to-peak amplitudes of $\simeq$ 0.1 mag. This is the first time that repeated periodic oscillations, over many cycles, have been detected in a supernova light curve. SN 2022jli also displays an extreme early excess which fades over $\approx$ 25 days followed by a rise to a peak luminosity of $L_{\rm opt} = 10^{42.1}$ erg s$^{-1}$. Although the exact explosion epoch is not constrained by data, the time from explosion to maximum light is $\gtrsim$ 59 days. The luminosity can be explained by a large ejecta mass ($M_{\rm ej}\approx12\pm6$M$_{\odot}$) powered by $^{56}$Ni but we find difficulty in quantitatively modelling the early excess with circumstellar interaction and cooling. Collision between the supernova ejecta and a binary companion is a possible source of this emission. We discuss the origin of the periodic variability in the light curve, including interaction of the SN ejecta with nested shells of circumstellar matter and neutron stars colliding with binary companions.

We present a study of the Ca II K and IR-triplet lines in a sample of Classical T Tauri stars in the Chamaeleon I star-forming region. We study X-shooter spectra of the stars in the sample and find that in some of these stars the Ca II lines are much weaker than expected from their H line fluxes and mass accretion rate. Since the Ca II K lines have characteristic magnetospheric accretion line profiles and the magnetospheric flows feed directly from the inner disk, we interpret the Ca deficit in terms of depletion due to processes happening in the disk. To test this hypothesis, we define a coarse depletion indicator using the flux of the Ca II K line and show that it correlates with disk properties. In particular, using indicators extracted from Spitzer/IRS spectra, we obtain that all the transitional and pre-transitional disks of the sample show depletion, consistent with trap** of refractories in pressure bumps created by planets and/or in the planets themselves. We find full disks with Ca depletion in the sample that also show indications of advanced dust evolution. We apply magnetospheric accretion models to fit the Balmer and Ca II line fluxes of a star showing clear Ca depletion and derive a Ca abundance in its inner disk of about 17% solar.

Dynamically tunable nanoengineered structures for coloration show promising applications in sensing, displays, and communication. However, their potential challenge remains in having a scalable manufacturing process over large scales in tens of cm of area. For the first time, we report a novel approach for fabricating chromogenic nanostructures that respond to mechanical stimuli by utilizing the fluidic properties of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a substrate and the interfacial tension of liquid metal-based plasmonic nanoparticles. Relying on the PDMS tunable property and a physical deposition method, our approach is single-step, scalable, and does not rely on high carbon footprint lithographic processes. By tuning the oligomer content in PDMS, we show that varieties of structural colors covering a significant gamut in CIE coordinates are achieved. We develop a model which depicts the formation of Ga nanodroplets from the capillary interaction of oligomers in PDMS with Ga. We showcase the capabilities of our processing technique by presenting prototypes of reflective displays and sensors for monitoring body parts, smart bandages, and the capacity of the nanostructured film to map force in real time. These examples illustrate this technology's broad range of applications, such as large-area displays, devices for human-computer interactions, healthcare, and visual communication.

Magnetic reconnection is one of the major particle acceleration processes in space and astrophysical plasmas. Low-energy supra-thermal particles emitted by magnetic reconnection are a source of ionisation for circumstellar discs, influencing their chemical, thermal and dynamical evolution. The aim of this work is to propose a first investigation to evaluate how energetic particles can propagate in the circumstellar disc of a T Tauri star and how they affect the ionisation rate of the disc plasma. To that end, we have collected experimental and theoretical cross sections for the production of H$^+$, H$_2^+$ and He$^+$ by electrons and protons. Starting from theoretical injection spectra of protons and electrons emitted during magnetic reconnection events, we have calculated the propagated spectra in the circumstellar disc considering the relevant energy loss processes. We have considered fluxes of energetic particles with different spectral indices and different disc magnetic configurations, generated at different positions from the star considering the physical properties of the flares as deduced from the observations obtained by the Chandra Orion Ultra Deep point source catalogue. We have then computed the ionisation rates for a disc whose structure has been calculated with the radiation thermo-chemical code {\tt ProDiMo}. We find that energetic particles are potentially a very strong source of local ionisation with ionisation rates exceeding by several orders of magnitude the contribution due to X-rays, stellar energetic particles and radioactivity in the inner disc.

The $^6$Li(n,$γ$)$^7$Li cross sections in the neutron energy range of 0.6 to 4 MeV have been measured by the experimental implementation of the direct capture formalism. This was done by measuring the $γ$ transition probability experimentally and accounting for the spin factor by theoretical calculation. The electromagnetic transition probabilities from $^7$Li$^*$ analogous to the initial neutron capture states of $^6$Li$+n$ were measured by populating the J$_i$ states of $^7$Li through $^7$Li($p,p'$)$^7$Li$^*$ reaction. The impact of coupling of resonant states, above neutron separation threshold of $^7$Li, in the neutron capture, is observed from the capture $γ$ spectrum. The measured cross sections were reproduced through {\sc fresco} and Talys-1.95 Direct Capture Calculations.

Today, there exists a wide variety of algorithms dedicated to high-contrast imaging, especially for the detection and characterisation of exoplanet signals. These algorithms are tailored to address the very high contrast between the exoplanet signal(s), which can be more than two orders of magnitude fainter than the bright starlight residuals in coronagraphic images. The starlight residuals are inhomogeneously distributed and follow various timescales that depend on the observing conditions and on the target star brightness. Disentangling the exoplanet signals within the starlight residuals is therefore challenging, and new post-processing algorithms are striving to achieve more accurate astrophysical results. The Exoplanet Imaging Data Challenge is a community-wide effort to develop, compare and evaluate algorithms using a set of benchmark high-contrast imaging datasets. After a first phase ran in 2020 and focused on the detection capabilities of existing algorithms, the focus of this ongoing second phase is to compare the characterisation capabilities of state-of-the-art techniques. The characterisation of planetary companions is two-fold: the astrometry (estimated position with respect to the host star) and spectrophotometry (estimated contrast with respect to the host star, as a function of wavelength). The goal of this second phase is to offer a platform for the community to benchmark techniques in a fair, homogeneous and robust way, and to foster collaborations.

The oscillations are observed in the same location more than 100 Mm away from the visible footpoints of the loops. Evidence for several possible excitation sources is presented. After close examination, we find that the eruptions during the flaring activities play an important role in triggering the oscillations. We investigate periodicities using time-distance, Fast Fourier Transform, and Wavelet techniques. Despite different excitation sources in the vicinity of the loops and the changing nature of amplitudes, the periodicity of multiple oscillations is found to be 4 - 6 minutes.

The demand for reducing the energy consumption of location-based applications has increased in recent years. The abnormal battery-draining behavior of GPS makes it difficult for the developers to decide on battery optimization during the development phase directly. It will reduce the burden on developers if battery-saving strategies are considered early, and relevant battery-aware code is generated from the design phase artifacts. Therefore, we aim to develop tool support, eGEN, to specify and create native location-based mobile apps. eGEN consists of Domain-specific Modeling Language (DSML) and a code generator for location-sensing. It is developed using Xtext and Xtend as an Eclipse plug-in, and currently, it supports native Android apps. eGEN is evaluated through controlled experiments by instrumenting the generated code in five location-based open-source Android applications. The experimental results show 4.35 minutes of average GPS reduction per hour and 188 mA of average reduction in battery consumption while showing only 97 meters degrade in location accuracy over 3 kilometers of a cycling path. Hence, we believe that code generated by eGEN would help developers to balance between energy and accuracy requirements of location-based applications. The source code, documentation, tool demo video, and tool installation video are available at https://github.com/Kowndinya2000/egen.

The impact of Music on the mood or emotion of the listener is a well-researched area in human psychology and behavioral science. In Indian classical music, ragas are the melodic structure that defines the various styles and forms of the music. Each raga has been found to evoke a specific emotion in the listener. With the advent of advanced capabilities of audio signal processing and the application of machine learning, the demand for intelligent music classifiers and recommenders has received increased attention, especially in the 'Music as a service' cloud applications. This paper explores a novel framework to leverage the raga-rasa association in Indian classical Music to build an intelligent classifier and its application in music recommendation system based on user's current mood and the mood they aspire to be in.

We consider the problem of sketching a set valuation function, which is defined as the expectation of a valuation function of independent random item values. We show that for monotone subadditive or submodular valuation functions satisfying a weak homogeneity condition, or certain other conditions, there exist discretized distributions of item values with $O(k\log(k))$ support sizes that yield a sketch valuation function which is a constant-factor approximation, for any value query for a set of items of cardinality less than or equal to $k$. The discretized distributions can be efficiently computed by an algorithm for each item's value distribution separately. Our results hold under conditions that accommodate a wide range of valuation functions arising in applications, such as the value of a team corresponding to the best performance of a team member, constant elasticity of substitution production functions exhibiting diminishing returns used in economics and consumer theory, and others. Sketch valuation functions are particularly valuable for finding approximate solutions to optimization problems such as best set selection and welfare maximization. They enable computationally efficient evaluation of approximate value oracle queries and provide an approximation guarantee for the underlying optimization problem.

We investigate the strong out-of-equilibrium dynamics occurring when a harmonically trapped ultracold bosonic gas is evaporatively cooled across the Bose--Einstein condensation transition. By imaging the cloud after free expansion, we study how the cooling rate affects the timescales for the growth of the condensate order parameter and the relaxation dynamics of its spatial fluctuations. We find evidence of a delay on the condensate formation related to the collisional properties and a universal condensate growth following the cooling rate. Finally, we measure an exponential relaxation of the spatial fluctuations of the order parameter that also shows a universal scaling. Notably, the scaling for the condensate growth and for the relaxation of its fluctuations follow different power laws.

The Black Hole Binary source Swift J175.5-0127 remained in outburst for $\sim$ 12 years from May 2005 to April 2017. For most part of the outburst, the source remained in the Low Hard State (LHS) displaying transitions to softer states only towards the end of the outburst for short periods of time. Quasi periodic Oscillations (QPOs) were observed in the Power Density Spectrum (PDS) only during the decay. A soft thermal component was required to model the spectrum in LHS, which does not conform to the generally accepted disc truncation theory. In this work, we attempt to obtain a clearer picture of the accretion disc geometry by studying the QPO variability using frequency resolved spectroscopy (FRS). We obtain the QPO rms spectrum of the source during the bright-hard state and model it with physical components. We find that the QPO rms spectrum can be described only by a Comptonisation component with no contribution from the thermal disc. This indicates that the variability observed in the PDS originates in the Comptonisation component and the evolution of the QPOs is likely to be a result of localization of the variabilities to different radii of the hot inner flow rather than disc truncation. The minimal variation in disc parameters also points to the existence of a stable disc throughout the outburst.

Using published work on the Narrow Line Region of Active Nuclei, we make a comparison of the observed [O III] $4363Å/5007Å$ ratio observed among quasars, Seyfert 2's and spatially resolved NLR plasma. It is broadly accepted that the span of this ratio among quasars, from 0.015 to 0.2, is the result of collisional deexcitation as corroborated by Baskin and Laor (2005). However, the coincidence of the AGN at towards the lowest [O III] ratios, however, suggests that it represents plasma in the low density regime, where this ratio can be interpreted as the actual NLR temperature. Using the density indicator [Ar IV] $4711Å/4740Å$ doublet ratio which was observed by Koski (1978) in Seyfert 2's, we found evidence of relatively low densities ($< 10000/cc$). Even after considering a powerlaw distribution for the densities as well as a nonuniform foreground dust extinction, we find no evidence of collisional deexcitation. The mean NLR OIII temperature we infer for our Seyfert 2 sample is 13,500 K. This is a problem for photoionization models with a standard ionizing spectral energy distribution since they predict significantly lower temperatures.

Today, Neural Networks are the basis of breakthroughs in virtually every technical domain. Their application to accelerators has recently resulted in better performance and efficiency in these systems. At the same time, the increasing hardware failures due to the latest (shrinked) semiconductor technology needs to be addressed. Since accelerator systems are often used to back time-critical applications such as self-driving cars or medical diagnosis applications, these hardware failures must be eliminated. Our research evaluates these failures from a systemic point of view. Based on our results, we find critical results for the system reliability enhancement and we further put forth an efficient method to avoid these failures with minimal hardware overhead.

Virial black hole mass ($M_{BH}$) determination directly involves knowing the broad line region (BLR) clouds velocity distribution, their distance from the central supermassive black hole ($R_{BLR}$) and the virial factor ($f$). Understanding whether biases arise in $M_{BH}$ estimation with increasing obscuration is possible only by studying a large (N$>$100) statistical sample of obscuration unbiased (hard) X-ray selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) in the rest-frame near-infrared (0.8-2.5$μ$m) since it penetrates deeper into the BLR than the optical. We present a detailed analysis of 65 local BAT-selected Seyfert galaxies observed with Magellan/FIRE. Adding these to the near-infrared BAT AGN spectroscopic survey (BASS) database, we study a total of 314 unique near-infrared spectra. While the FWHMs of H$α$ and near-infrared broad lines (He\textsc{i}, Pa$β$, Pa$α$) remain unbiased to either BLR extinction or X-ray obscuration, the H$α$ broad line luminosity is suppressed when $N_H\gtrsim10^{21}$ cm$^{-2}$, systematically underestimating $M_{BH}$ by $0.23-0.46$ dex. Near-infrared line luminosities should be preferred to H$α$ until $N_H<10^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$, while at higher obscuration a less biased $R_{BLR}$ proxy should be adopted. We estimate $f$ for Seyfert 1 and 2 using two obscuration-unbiased $M_{BH}$ measurements, i.e. the stellar velocity dispersion and a BH mass prescription based on near-infrared and X-ray, and find that the virial factors do not depend on redshift or obscuration, but for some broad lines show a mild anti-correlation with $M_{BH}$. Our results show the critical impact obscuration can have on BLR characterization and the importance of the near-infrared and X-rays for a less biased view of the BLR.

The increasing popularity of social media platforms makes it important to study user engagement, which is a crucial aspect of any marketing strategy or business model. The over-saturation of content on social media platforms has persuaded us to identify the important factors that affect content popularity. This comes from the fact that only an iota of the humongous content available online receives the attention of the target audience. Comprehensive research has been done in the area of popularity prediction using several Machine Learning techniques. However, we observe that there is still significant scope for improvement in analyzing the social importance of media content. We propose the DFW-PP framework, to learn the importance of different features that vary over time. Further, the proposed method controls the skewness of the distribution of the features by applying a log-log normalization. The proposed method is experimented with a benchmark dataset, to show promising results. The code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/chaitnayabasava/DFW-PP.

Extragalactic globular clusters (GCs) are key objects for studying the history of galaxies. The arrival of wide-field surveys such as the Javalambre Photometric Local Universe Survey (J-PLUS) offers new possibilities for the study of these systems. We perform the first study of GCs in J-PLUS to recover information about the history of NGC 1023 taking advantage of wide-field images and 12 filters. We develop the semiautomatic pipeline GCFinder that detects GC candidates in J-PLUS images and can also be adapted to similar surveys. We study the stellar population properties of a sub-sample of GC candidates using spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting. We find 523 GC candidates in NGC 1023, of which $\sim$300 are new. We identify subpopulations of GC candidates, where age and metallicity distributions have multiple peaks. By comparing our results with simulations, we report a possible broad age-metallicity relation, evidence that NGC 1023 experienced accretion events in the past. The dominating age peak is at $10^{10}$ yr. We report a correlation between masses and ages that suggests that massive GC candidates are more likely to survive the turbulent history of the host galaxy. Modeling the light of NGC 1023, we find two spiral-like arms and detect a displacement of the galaxy's photometric center with respect to the outer isophotes and center of GC distribution ($\sim$700 pc and $\sim$1600 pc, respectively), which could be the result of ongoing interaction between NGC 1023 and NGC 1023A. By studying the GC system of NGC 1023 with J-PLUS we showcase the power of multi-band surveys for this kind of study and find evidence of a complex accretion history of the host galaxy.

Aria is one of the pillars of the argon dark-matter search experimental program, lead by the Global Argon Dark Matter Collaboration. Aria was designed to reduce the isotopic abundance of $^{39}$Ar, a $β$-emitter of cosmogenic origin, whose activity poses background and pile-up concerns in the detectors, in the argon used for the dark-matter searches, the so-called Underground Argon (UAr). In this paper, we discuss the requirements, design, construction, tests, and projected performance of the plant for the isotopic cryogenic distillation of argon. We also present the successful results of isotopic cryogenic distillation of nitrogen with a prototype plant, operating the column at total reflux.

IGR J17091-3624 is a low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) which received wide attention from the community thanks to its similarities with the bright black hole system GRS 1915+105. Both systems exhibit a wide range of highly structured X-ray variability during outburst, with time scales from few seconds to tens of minutes, which make them unique in the study of mass accretion in LMXBs. In this work we present a general overview into the long-term evolution of IGR J17091-3624, using Swift/XRT observations from the onset of the 2011-2013 outburst in February 2011 to the end of the last bright outburst in November 2016. We found 4 re-flares during the decay of the 2011 outburst, but no similar re-flares appear to be present in the latter one. We studied in detail the period with the lowest flux observed in the last 10 years, just at the tail end of the 2011-2013 outburst, using Chandra and XMM-Newton observations. We observed changes in flux as high as a factor of 10 during this period of relative quiescence, without strong evidence of softening in the spectra. This result suggests that the source has not been observed at its true quiescence so far. By comparing the spectral properties at low luminosities of IGR J17091-3624 and those observed for a well studied population of LMXBs, we concluded that IGR J17091-3624 is most likely to host a black hole as a compact companion rather than a neutron star.

We present an in-depth spectral and timing analysis of the Black Hole binary 4U 1630-472 during 2016 and 2018 outbursts as observed by \textit{AstroSat} and \textit{MAXI}. The extensive coverage of the outbursts with \textit{MAXI} is used to obtain the Hardness Intensity Diagram (HID). The source follows a `c'-shaped profile in agreement with earlier findings. Based on the HIDs of previous outbursts, we attempt to track the evolution of the source during a `super'-outburst and `mini'-outbursts. We model the broadband energy spectra ($0.7-20.0$ keV) of \textit{AstroSat} observations of both outbursts using phenomenological and physical models. No Keplerian disc signature is observed at the beginning of 2016 outburst. However, the disc appears within a few hours after which it remains prominent with temperature ($T_{in}$) $\sim$ 1.3 keV and increase in photon index ($Γ$) from 1.8 to 2.0, whereas the source was at a disc dominant state throughout the \textit{AstroSat} campaign of 2018 outburst. Based on the HIDs and spectral properties, we classify the outbursts into three different states - the `canonical' hard and soft states along with an intermediate state. Evolution of rms along different states is seen although no Quasi-periodic Oscillations (QPOs) are detected. We fit the observed spectra using a dynamical accretion model and estimate the accretion parameters. Mass of the black hole is estimated using inner disc radius, bolometric luminosity and two component flow model to be $3-9$ $M_{\odot}$. Finally, we discuss the possible implications of our findings.

First, exhaustive search is used to describe the solution space in terms of various quantities of interest such as maximum top floor displacement, maximum floor acceleration, base shear, and interstorey drift. With the help of examples, it is pointed out that the Pareto fronts in these problems contain a very small number of solutions. As a large proportion of road accidents occur at intersections, monitoring traffic safety of intersections is important. Existing approaches are designed to investigate accidents in lane-based traffic. However, such approaches are not suitable in a lane-less mixed-traffic environment where vehicles often ply very close to each other. Hence, we propose an approach called Siamese Interaction Long Short-Term Memory network (SILSTM) to detect collision prone vehicle behavior. The SILSTM network learns the interaction trajectory of a vehicle that describes the interactions of a vehicle with its neighbors at an intersection. Among the hundreds of interactions for every vehicle, there maybe only some interactions which may be unsafe and hence, a temporal attention layer is used in the SILSTM network. Furthermore, the comparison of interaction trajectories requires labeling the trajectories as either unsafe or safe, but such a distinction is highly subjective, especially in lane-less traffic. Hence, in this work, we compute the characteristics of interaction trajectories involved in accidents using the collision energy model. The interaction trajectories that match accident characteristics are labeled as unsafe while the rest are considered safe. Finally, there is no existing dataset that allows us to monitor a particular intersection for a long duration. Therefore, we introduce the SkyEye dataset that contains 1 hour of continuous aerial footage from each of the 4 chosen intersections in the city of Ahmedabad in India. A detailed evaluation of SILSTM on the SkyEye dataset shows that unsafe (collision-prone) interaction trajectories can be effectively detected at different intersections.

In a previous paper, the authors together with L. Vrancken initiated the study of $3$-dimensional CR submanifolds of the nearly K\" ahler homogeneous $\mathbb S^3\times \mathbb S^3$. As is shown by Butruille this is one of only four homogeneous $6$-dimensional nearly Kähler manifolds. Besides its almost complex structure $J$ it also admits a canonical almost product structure $P$. Along a $3$-dimensional CR submanifold the tangent space of $\mathbb S^3\times\mathbb S^3$ can be naturally split as the orthogonal sum of three $2$-dimensional vector bundles $\mathcal D_1$, $\mathcal D_2$ and $\mathcal D_3$. We study the CR submanifolds in relation to the behavior of the almost product structure on these vector bundles.

Characterization and determination of the optical constants for thin film silicon compensated through the transmittance spectrum is presented. Such properties were determined by R. Swanepoel model. Comparison between the refractive indices of pure silicon and silicon compensated. Increasing refractive index behavior at low wavelengths in both plots was observed. The difference lies in the concentration and type of element that has been added to the thin film. The behavior of the dielectric constant was studied, their relationship with the refractive index. It is found that the value of the dielectric constant to a thin film of silicon compensated agree with those reported in the literature. The reported value of the gap for pure silicon corresponds to $ 1.11eV $ and the value of the gap for the sample corresponds to $ 0.7275eV $, the discrepancy is due to the level of concentration in the compensated silicon film.

We have obtained the time and space-resolved star formation history (SFH) of M51a (NGC 5194) by fitting GALEX, SDSS, and near infrared pixel-by-pixel photometry to a comprehensive library of stellar population synthesis models drawn from the Synthetic Spectral Atlas of Galaxies (SSAG). We fit for each space-resolved element (pixel) an independent model where the SFH is averaged in 137 age bins, each one 100 Myr wide. We used the Bayesian Successive Priors (BSP) algorithm to mitigate the bias in the present-day spatial mass distribution. We test BSP with different prior probability distribution functions (PDFs); this exercise suggests that the best prior PDF is the one concordant with the spatial distribution of the stellar mass as inferred from the near infrared images. We also demonstrate that varying the implicit prior PDF of the SFH in SSAG does not affects the results. By summing the contributions to the global star formation rate of each pixel, at each age bin, we have assembled the resolved star formation history of the whole galaxy. According to these results, the star formation rate of M51a was exponentially increasing for the first 10 Gyr after the Big Bang, and then turned into an exponentially decreasing function until the present day. Superimposed, we find a main burst of star formation at t 11.9 Gyr after the Big Bang.

We study the consistency of the physical properties of galaxies retrieved from SED-fitting as a function of spectral resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Using a selection of physically motivated star formation histories, we set up a control sample of mock galaxy spectra representing observations of the local universe in high-resolution spectroscopy, and in 56 narrow-band and 5 broad-band photometry. We fit the SEDs at these spectral resolutions and compute their corresponding the stellar mass, the mass- and luminosity-weighted age and metallicity, and the dust extinction. We study the biases, correlations, and degeneracies affecting the retrieved parameters and explore the rôle of the spectral resolution and the SNR in regulating these degeneracies. We find that narrow-band photometry and spectroscopy yield similar trends in the physical properties derived, the former being considerably more precise. Using a galaxy sample from the SDSS, we compare more realistically the results obtained from high-resolution and narrow-band SEDs (synthesized from the same SDSS spectra) following the same spectral fitting procedures. We use results from the literature as a benchmark to our spectroscopic estimates and show that the prior PDFs, commonly adopted in parametric methods, may introduce biases not accounted for in a Bayesian framework. We conclude that narrow-band photometry yields the same trend in the age-metallicity relation in the literature, provided it is affected by the same biases as spectroscopy; albeit the precision achieved with the latter is generally twice as large as with the narrow-band, at SNR values typical of the different kinds of data.

We present early results from the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard the ASTROSAT observatory. We report the discovery of a hot companion associated with one of the blue straggler stars (BSSs) in the old open cluster, NGC188. Using fluxes measured in four filters in UVIT's Far-UV (FUV) channel, and two filters in the near-UV (NUV) channel, we have constructed the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the star WOCS-5885, after combining with flux measurements from GALEX, UIT, UVOT, SPITZER, WISE and several ground-based facilities. The resulting SED spans a wavelength range of 0.15~$μ$m to 7.8~$μ$m. This object is found to be one of the brightest FUV sources in the cluster. An analysis of the SED reveals the presence of two components. The cooler component is found to have a temperature of 6,000$\pm$150~K, confirming that it is a BSS. Assuming it to be a main-sequence star, we estimate its mass to be $\sim$ 1.1 - 1.2M$_\odot$. The hotter component, with an estimated temperature of 17,000$\pm$500~K, has a radius of $\sim$ 0.6R$_\odot$ and L $\sim$ 30L$_\odot$. Bigger and more luminous than a white dwarf, yet cooler than a sub-dwarf, we speculate that it is a post-AGB/HB star that has recently transferred its mass to the BSS, which is known to be a rapid rotator. This binary system, which is the first BSS with a post-AGB/HB companion identified in an open cluster, is an ideal laboratory to study the process of BSS formation via mass transfer.

Stellar masses of galaxies are frequently obtained by fitting stellar population synthesis models to galaxy photometry or spectra. The state of the art method resolves spatial structures within a galaxy to assess the total stellar mass content. In comparison to unresolved studies, resolved methods yield, on average, higher fractions of stellar mass for galaxies. In this work we improve the current method in order to mitigate a bias related to the resolved spatial distribution derived for the mass. The bias consists in an apparent filamentary mass distribution, and a spatial coincidence between mass structures and dust lanes near spiral arms. The improved method is based on iterative Bayesian marginalization, through a new algorithm we have named Bayesian Successive Priors (BSP). We have applied BSP to M 51, and to a pilot sample of 90 spiral galaxies from the Ohio State University Bright Spiral Galaxy Survey. By comparing quantitatively both methods, we find that the average fraction of stellar mass missed by unresolved studies is only half than previously thought. In contrast with the previous method, the output BSP mass-maps bear a better resemblance to near infrared images.
