We consider Klein-Gordon equation in the Dyonic Kerr-Sen black hole background, which is the charged rotating axially symmetric solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion theory of gravity. The black hole incorporates electric, magnetic, dilatonic and axionic charges and is constructed in 3+1 dimensional spacetime. We begin our investigations with the construction of the scalar field's governing equation, i.e., the covariant Klein-Gordon equation. With the help of the ansatz of separation of variables, we successfully separate the polar part, and find the exact solution in terms of Spheroidal Harmonics, while the radial exact solution is obtained in terms of the Confluent Heun function. The quantization of the quasibound state is done by applying the polynomial condition of the Confluent Heun function that gives rise to discrete complex-valued energy levels for massive scalar fields. The real part is the scalar field relativistic quantized energy, while the imaginary part represents the quasibound states's decay. We present all of the sixteen possible exact energy solutions for both massive and massless scalars. We also present the investigation the Hawking radiation of the Dyonic Kerr-Sen black hole's apparent horizon, via the Sigurd-Sannan method by making use of the obtained exact scalar wave functions. The radiation distribution function, and the Hawking temperature are successfully obtained.

We consider the thermodynamic properties of an exact black hole solution obtained in Weyl geometric gravity theory, by considering the simplest conformally invariant action, constructed from the square of the Weyl scalar, and the strength of the Weyl vector only. The action is linearized in the Weyl scalar by introducing an auxiliary scalar field, and thus it can be reformulated as a scalar-vector-tensor theory in a Riemann space, in the presence of a nonminimal coupling between the Ricci scalar and the scalar field. In static spherical symmetry, this theory admits an exact black hole solution, which generalizes the standard Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution through the presence of two new terms in the metric, having a linear and a quadratic dependence on the radial coordinate, respectively. The solution is obtained by assuming that the Weyl vector has only a radial component. After studying the locations of the event and cosmological horizons of the Weyl geometric black hole, we investigate in detail the thermodynamical (quantum properties) of this type of black holes, by considering the Hawking temperature, the volume, the entropy, specific heat and the Helmholtz and Gibbs energy functions on both the event and the cosmological horizons. The Weyl geometric black holes have thermodynamic properties that clearly differentiate them from similar solutions of other modified gravity theories. The obtained results may lead to the possibility of a better understanding of the properties of the black holes in alternative gravity, and of the relevance of the thermodynamic aspects in black hole physics.

We present constraints on the extended Starobinsky and Weyl gravity model of inflation using updated available observational data. The data includes cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy measurements from Planck and BICEP/Keck 2018 (BK18), as well as large-scale structure data encompassing cosmic shear and galaxy autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions measurements from Dark Energy Survey (DES), baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements from 6dF, MGS and BOSS, and distance measurements from supernovae type Ia from Pantheon+ samples. By introducing a single additional parameter, each model extends the Starobinsky model to encompass larger region of parameter space while remaining consistent with all observational data. Our findings demonstrate that the inclusion of higher-order terms loosen the constraint on the upper bound of $e$-folding number $N_{\rm e}$ due to the presence of small additional parameter. The maximum limit on $N_{\rm e}$ could be refined by considering the reheating process to $N_{\rm e}<55-59$ for $k_{*}=0.002-0.05\ {\rm Mpc}^{-1}$. These models extend viable range of tensor-to-scalar ratio ($r$) to very small value $r<0.002$ in contrast to the original $R^2$ Starobinsky model. In addition, our results continue to emphasize the tension in $H_0$ and $S_8$ between early-time CMB measurements and late-time large-scale structure observations.

We show that the near-horizon Kerr-Sen-de Sitter black hole in Nariai limit is a fiber over AdS$_2$ with an appropriate coordinate transformation, instead of fiber over dS$_2$. Hence, we can compute the associated central charge and CFT temperature by using the Kerr/CFT method. It is remarkably exhibited that through Cardy's growth of states, the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy on cosmological horizon is reproduced. Moreover, we show that the radial equation of the quantum scalar field in $J$- and $Q$-pictures on this charged rotating background in Nariai limit can be portrayed in quadratic Casimir operator form with $SL(2,R)\times SL(2,R)$ isometry. We also compute the corresponding thermodynamic quantities from CFT to find the absorption cross-section and real-time correlator in $J$-picture. In $Q$-picture, we do not find a well-defined CFT description. We then extend the study of quantum scalar field in Nariai limit for Kerr-Newman-dS black hole solution and show that the hidden conformal symmetry on this black hole's background in in $J$- and $Q$-pictures is well-defined.

In comparison to the original Tolman VII model, Exact Modified Tolman VII (EMTVII) with one additional parameter can increase the compactness of compact object. When the compactness is in the ultracompact regime, the quasinormal modes~(QNMs) of the trapped mode as well as the gravitational echoes become more viable. Starting with the EMTVII model, we introduce nonlocality into the matter sector and analyze the effective potential, the QNMs, and the gravitational echoes of the compact and ultracompact object in the nonlocal model. The nonlocal gravity version of EMTVII~(NEMTVII) is parametrized by the nonlocal parameter~($ β$), modified Tolman VII parameter ($ α$), and the compactness ($ \mathcal{C}$). It is found that the nonlocal profile produces the smeared surface and consequently reduce the compactness. The maximum compactness $\mathcal{C}_{max}=0.4$ occurs when $α=0=β$, i.e., EMTVII with no smearing. For relatively small value of $β= 0.01$ and the compactness $ \mathcal{C} \lesssim 0.2667$~(with $M=2.14$ solar masses, $R=11.835$ km at $α=1.4$), the causality condition and the dominant energy condition~(DEC) are satisfied. The quasinormal modes of the gravitational perturbation are calculated using Bohr-Sommerfeld (BS) fitting and we find that the nonlocality produces less trapped modes than the original (EMTVII) counterpart. At high compactness, gravitational echoes are simulated numerically. Echoes are found to exist in the parameter space where the dominant energy condition and the causality condition are violated.

We investigate the possibility that the observed behavior of test particles outside galaxies, which is usually explained by assuming the existence of dark matter, is the result of the dynamical evolution of particles in a Weyl type geometry, and its associated conformally invariant Weyl geometric quadratic gravity. As a first step in our investigations we write down the simplest possible conformally invariant gravitational action, constructed in Weyl geometry, and containing the Weyl scalar, and the strength of the Weyl vector only. By introducing an auxiliary scalar field, the theoretical model can be reformulated in the Riemann geometry as scalar-vector-tensor theory, containing a scalar field, and the Weyl vector, respectively. The field equations of the theory are derived in the metric formalism, in the absence of matter. A specific static, spherically symmetric model, in which the Weyl vector has only a radial component, is considered. In this case, an exact analytic solution of the gravitational field equations can be obtained. The behavior of the galactic rotation curves is also considered in detail, and it is shown that an effective geometric mass term, with an associated density profile, can also be introduced. Three particular cases, corresponding to some specific functional forms of the Weyl vector, are also investigated. A comparison of the model with a selected sample of galactic rotation curves is also performed when an explicit breaking of conformal invariance is introduced, which allows the fix of the numerical values of the free parameters of the model. Our results show that Weyl geometric models can be considered as a viable theoretical alternative to the dark matter paradigm.

At the transition from low to high density multiquark in the core region, the first 2 modes jump to larger values, a distinctive signature of the presence of the high-density core. When the star oscillation couples with spacetime, gravitational waves~(GW) will be generated and the star will undergo damped oscillation. The quasinormal modes~(QNMs) of the oscillation are computed using two methods, direct scan and WKB, for QNMs with small and large imaginary parts respectively. The small imaginary QNMs have frequencies $1.5-2.6$ kHz and dam** times $0.19-1.7$ secs for multiquark star with mass $M=0.6-2.1 M_{\odot}$~(solar mass). The WKB QNMs with large imaginary parts have frequencies $5.98-9.81$ kHz and dam** times $0.13-0.46$ ms for $M\simeq 0.3-2.1 M_{\odot}$. They are found to be the fluid $f-$modes and spacetime curvature $w-$modes respectively.

We demonstrate that rotating dyonic black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion (EMDA) theory is holographically dual with 2D conformal field theory. We first investigate the duality on dyonic Kerr-Sen black hole with non-vanishing dilaton and axion charges. The near-horizon geometry of extremal dyonic Kerr-Sen spacetime possesses the $SL(2,R) \times U (1)$ isometry allowing to employ the asymptotic symmetry group method to find the corresponding central charge. We find two different branches of the mass which correspond to CFT with two different central charges $c_L=12am_+$ and $c_L=12am_-$. The exact agreement between the Bekenstain-Hawking entropy and entropy from CFT is then found also in two different branches of extremal entropy. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this duality is robust insofar for non-zero AdS length. We show that the duality holds for both dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole and its ultraspinning counterpart. In both cases, we obtain the expected entropy from CFT which matches exactly with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Since dyonic and axion charges are proportional to $1/m$, we note that there are possibly more than two branches of the central charge for non-zero AdS length in terms of mass. When we turn off dyonic charge, the axion charge vanishes showing the results of Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole. Moreover, when we assume the equal electromagnetic charges, it recovers the results when the dilaton charge vanishes. In the end, we compare the results of dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole and its ultraspinning counterpart to those of the dyonic Kerr-Newman-AdS black hole and the ultraspinning counterpart. Depending on the dyonic charge parameters, it is found that extremal ultraspinning dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole is not always superentropic.

The Chiral Effective Theory~(CET) stiff equation of state~(EoS) is used in the crust of the neutron star. The dimensionless multipole moments $\bar{I},\barλ^{\rm (rot)}, \bar{Q}$ are found to be independent of the rotation parameters and determined completely by the zeroth-order star profile. Universal ``I-Love-Q'' relations found by Yagi and Yunes [1,2] are mostly preserved even in the presence of the MQ core. Tidal deformation parameter $\barλ^{\rm (tid)}$ is also explored in connection with $\bar{I}, \barλ^{\rm (rot)}, \bar{Q}$, two kinds of universal I-Love-Q relations are verified. However, the unique kink in the plots of multipoles with respect to mass and compactness of the population of neutron stars can reveal the existence of massive NS with the MQ core.

Phases of nuclear matter are crucial in the determination of physical properties of neutron stars~(NS). In the core of NS, the density and pressure become so large that the nuclear matter possibly undergoes phase transition into a deconfined phase, consisting of quarks and gluons and their colour bound states. Even though the quark-gluon plasma has been observed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions\cite{Gyulassy, Andronic}, it is still unclear whether exotic quark matter exists inside neutron stars. Recent results from the combination of various perturbative theoretical calculations with astronomical observations\cite{Demorest, Antoniadis} shows that (exotic) quark matter could exist inside the cores of neutron stars above 2.0 solar masses ($M_{\odot}$)~\cite{Annala:2019puf}. We revisit the holographic model in Ref.~\cite{bch, bhp} and implement the equation of states~(EoS) of multiquark nuclear matter to interpolate the pQCD EoS in the high-density region with the nuclear EoS known at low densities. For sufficiently large energy density scale~($ε_{s}$) of the model, it is found that multiquark phase is thermodynamically prefered than the stiff nuclear matter above the transition points. The NS with holographic multiquark core could have masses in the range $1.96-2.23~(1.64-2.10) M_{\odot}$ and radii $14.3-11.8~(14.0-11.1)$ km for $ε_{s}=26~(28)$ GeV/fm$^{3}$ respectively. Effects of proton-baryon fractions are studied for certain type of baryonic EoS; larger proton fractions could reduce radius of the NS with multiquark core by less than a kilometer.

Scattering of charged fermion with $(1+2)$-dimensional wormhole in the presence of constant axial magnetic flux is explored. By extending the class of fermionic solutions of the Dirac equation in the curved space of wormhole surface to include normal modes with real energy and momentum, we found a quantum selection rule for the scattering of fermion waves to the wormhole. The newly found {\it momentum-angular momentum relation} implies that only fermion with the quantized momentum $k=m'/a\sqrt{q}$ can be transmitted through the hole. The allowed momentum is proportional to an effective angular momentum quantum number $m'$ and inversely proportional to the radius of the throat of the wormhole $a$. Flux dependence of the effective angular momentum quantum number permits us to select fermions that can pass through according to their momenta. A conservation law is also naturally enforced in terms of the unitarity condition among the incident, reflected, and transmitted waves. The scattering involving quasinormal modes~(QNMs) of fermionic states in the wormhole is subsequently explored. It is found that the transmitted waves through the wormhole for all scenarios involving QNMs are mostly suppressed and decaying in time. In the case of QNMs scattering, the unitarity condition is violated but a more generic relation of the scattering coefficients is established. When the magnetic flux $φ=mhc/e$, i.e., quantized in units of the magnetic flux quantum $hc/e$, the fermion will tunnel through the wormhole with zero reflection.

Recent low-redshift observations give value of the present-time Hubble parameter $H_{0}\simeq 74~\rm{km s}^{-1}\rm{Mpc}^{-1}$, roughly 10\% higher than the predicted value $H_{0}=67.4~\rm{km s}^{-1}\rm{Mpc}^{-1}$ from Planck's observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation~(CMB) and the $Λ$CDM model. Phenomenologically, we show that by adding an extra component X with negative density in the Friedmann equation, it can relieve the Hubble tension without changing the Planck's constraint on the matter and dark energy densities. For the extra negative density to be sufficiently small, its equation-of-state parameter must satisfy $1/3\leq w_{X}\leq1$. We propose a quintom model of two scalar fields that realizes this condition and potentially alleviate the Hubble tension. One scalar field acts as a quintessence while another "phantom" scalar conformally couples to matter in such a way that viable cosmological scenario can be achieved. The model depends only on two parameters, $λ_φ$ and $δ$ which represent rolling tendency of the self-interacting potential of the quintessence and the strength of conformal phantom-matter coupling respectively. The toy quintom model with $H_{0}=73.4~\rm{km s}^{-1}\rm{Mpc}^{-1}$~(Quintom I) gives good Supernovae-Ia luminosity fits, decent $r_{\rm BAO}$ fit, but slightly small acoustic multipole $\ell_{A}=285.54$. Full parameter scan reveals that quintom model provide better model than the $Λ$CDM model in certain region of the parameter space, $0.02<δ<0.10, Ω_{m}^{(0)}<0.31$, while significantly relieving Hubble tension even though not completely resolving it. A benchmark quintom model, Quintom II, is presented as an example.

We consider contributions of the open-string singlet~(OSS) interaction to the proton-proton scattering. Modelling baryon and meson as instanton and open string in the effective QCD string model, the typical pomeron is identified with a massive spin-2 closed string. According to the open-closed string duality, the massive spin-2 closed string is accompanied by the open-string singlet interaction with universal coupling. The flat space 4-point open-string singlet amplitudes and cross sections are computed in the Regge limit. Including both the open and closed string pomerons, we fit the differential cross-section with experimental data of the proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering from the CDF, E-710, D0, LHC-ATLAS and LHC-TOTEM collaborations. The fitting results show the universality of the string mass scale~(or string tension) and consistency of the string model between the open and closed string parameters in describing the $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ scattering in the Regge limit. The fitting of the string model to experimental data gives the string scale $M_{S}\simeq 1.7-1.8$ GeV and the corresponding glueball pole mass $m_{g}\simeq 1.6-1.7$ GeV. This lies within experimental values of the observed $2^{++}, I=0$ "meson" masses.

We study the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of charged scalar in the static spherically symmetric black hole background near the event and cosmological horizon. Starting with numerical analysis of the QNMs of black hole in the dRGT massive gravity, the mathematical tool called the Asymptotic Iteration Method~(AIM) is used to calculate the quasinormal frequencies. The parameters such as the mass and charge of the black hole, the cosmological constant, the coefficient of the linear term from massive gravity $γ$, and the mass of the scalar are varied to study the behavior of the QNMs. We found the tower pattern of the near-horizon quasinormal frequencies from the numerical results by AIM where the real parts depend only on product of the charge of the black hole and the scalar field and the imaginary parts depend only on the surface gravity. To confirm the numerical finding, we analytically determine the exact QNMs of the charged scalar near the horizons of any static spherically symmetric black hole background in the simple universal forms; $ω= \displaystyle{\frac{qQ}{r_h}} + i κ_h n$ and $ω= \displaystyle{\frac{qQ}{r_c}} + i |κ_c| n$ where $n$ is a non-positive integer and $κ_{h,c}$ is the surface gravity, for the event and cosmological horizon respectively. Extending our analysis, we also compute the four towers of the near-horizon QNMs that can reach the far region. The four kinds of QNMs converge to certain asymptotic values with equally spacing imaginary parts and the real parts proportional to $qQ/r_{h,c}$. These modes do not match with the all-region~(WKB) modes of the real background since they are originated from the linearly approximated metric.

We investigate the effects of magnetic field on a charged fermion in a $(1+2)$-dimensional wormhole. Applying external magnetic field along the axis direction of the wormhole, the Dirac equation is set up and analytically solved in two scenarios, constant magnetic flux and constant magnetic field through the throat of the wormhole. For the constant magnetic flux scenario, the system can be solved analytically and exact solutions are found. For the constant magnetic field scenario, with the short wormhole approximation, the quantized energies and eigenstates are obtained. The system exhibits both the spin-orbit coupling and the Landau quantization for the stationary states in both scenarios. The intrinsic curvature of the surface induces the spin-orbit and spin-magnetic Landau couplings that generate imaginary energy. Imaginary energy can be interpreted as the energy dissipation and instability of the states. Generically, the states of charged fermion in wormhole are quasinormal modes~(QNMs) that could be unstable for positive imaginary frequencies and decaying for negative imaginary ones. For the constant flux scenario, the fermions in the wormhole can behave like bosons and have arbitrary statistics depending on the flux. We also discuss the implications of our results in the graphene wormhole system.

Using a simple de Rham, Gabadadze, and Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity model, we find static spherically symmetric metric and a modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation. The dRGT nonlinear graviton interactions generate density and pressures which behave like a dark energy that can mimic the gravitational effects of a dark matter halo. We found that rotation curves of most galaxies can be fitted well by a single constant-gravity parameter $γ\sim m_{g}^{2}C \sim 10^{-28}~{\rm m^{-1}}$ corresponding to the graviton mass in the range $m_g \sim 10^{-21}-10^{-30} {\rm eV}$ depending on the choice of the fiducial metric parameter $C\sim 1-10^{18}~\text{m}$. Fitting rotation curve of the Milky Way puts strong constraint on the Yukawa-type coupling of the massive graviton exchange as a result of the shell effects.

The effect of massive scalar perturbations on neutral black string in de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity is investigated through the study of the quasi-normal modes~(QNMs). Due to the similarity between the equation of motion of the field in the black-string and black-hole background, similar numerical and analytical techniques can be used to explore the behaviour of the QNMs. We use the asymptotic iteration method (AIM) and the WKB method to numerically calculate the QNMs of scalar perturbation in the black string background with positive cosmological constant. High-momentum behaviour of such QNMs can be analytically approximated by the first-order WKB method with excellent accuracy. For near-extremal black string with event horizon very close to the cosmological horizon, the Pöschl-Teller technique gives accurate analytic formula for the QNMs. When massive-gravity-parameter $γ$ increases, we found that the scalar modes oscillate with higher frequencies and decay faster. The QNMs of black string in spacetime with negative cosmological constant are explored in all range of possible $γ$ using the spectral method. We found the movement of the holographic sound poles to collide and form diffusive poles as $γ$ changes from positive to negative values. We observe no evidence of instability of neutral black string in both positive and negative cosmological constant cases.

In this type of gravitational theories the graviton, the quantum of gravity, may have a small, but non-vanishing mass. We derive the hydrostatic equilibrium and mass continuity equations in the Lorentz-violating Massive gravity in the presence of a cosmological constant and for a non-zero graviton mass. The case of the constant density stars is also investigated by numerically solving the equilibrium equations. The influence of the graviton mass on the global parameters (mass and radius) of these stellar configurations is also considered. The generalized Buchdahl relations, giving the upper and lower bounds of the mass-radius ratio are obtained, and discussed in detail. As an application of our results we obtain gravitational redshift bounds for compact stellar type objects in the Lorentz-violating dRGT Massive Gravity, which may (at least in principle) be used for observationally testing this theory in an astrophysical context.

Adopting a spherically symmetric interior geometry, we obtain the generalized continuity and Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations for a Weyssenhoff spin-fluid in hydrostatic equilibrium, expressed in terms of the effective mass, density and pressure, all of which contain additional contributions from the spin. The generalized Buchdahl inequality, which remains valid at any point in the interior, is obtained, and general theoretical limits for the maximum and minimum mass-radius ratios are derived. As an application of our results we obtain gravitational red shift bounds for compact spin-fluid objects, which may (in principle) be used for observational tests of Einstein-Cartan theory in an astrophysical context. We also briefly consider applications of the torsion-induced minimum mass to the spin-generalized strong gravity model for baryons/mesons, and show that the existence of quantum spin imposes a lower bound for spinning particles, which almost exactly reproduces the electron mass.

We explore the quasi-stationary profile of massive charged scalar field in a class of charged black hole in dRGT massive gravity. We discuss how the linear term in the metric which is a unique character of the dRGT massive gravity affects structure of the spacetime. Numerical calculations of the quasinormal modes are performed for the charged scalar field in the dRGT black hole background. For asymptotically de Sitter (dS) black hole, an improved asymptotic iteration method is used to obtain the associated quasinormal frequencies. The unstable modes are found for $\ell=0$ case and their corresponding real parts satisfy superradiant condition. For $\ell=2$, the results show that all the de Sitter black holes considered here are stable against a small perturbation. For asymptotically dRGT anti de Sitter (AdS) black hole, unstable modes are found with the frequency satisfying superradiant condition. Effects of massive gravity parameter are discussed. Analytic calculation reveals unique diffusive nature of quasinormal modes in the massive gravity model with the linear term. Numerical results confirm existence of the characteristic diffusive modes in both dS and AdS cases.

Though not a part of mainstream physics, Salam's theory of strong gravity remains a viable effective model for the description of strong interactions in the gauge singlet sector of QCD, capable of producing particle confinement and asymptotic freedom, but not of reproducing interactions involving $SU(3)$ colour charge. It may therefore be used to explore the stability and confinement of gauge singlet hadrons, though not to describe scattering processes that require colour interactions. It is a two-tensor theory of both strong interactions and gravity, in which the strong tensor field is governed by equations formally identical to the Einstein equations, apart from the coupling parameter, which is of order $1 \ \rm GeV^{-1}$. We revisit the strong gravity theory and investigate the strong gravity field equations in the presence of a mixing term which induces an effective {\it strong cosmological constant}, $Λ_{f}$. This introduces a {\it strong de Sitter radius} for strongly interacting fermions, producing a confining bubble, which allows us to identify $Λ_{f}$ with the `bag constant' of the MIT bag model, $B \simeq 2 \times 10^{14} \rm gcm^{-3}$. Assuming a static, spherically symmetric geometry, we derive the strong gravity TOV equation, which describes the equilibrium properties of compact hadronic objects. From this, we determine the generalised Buchdahl inequalities for a strong gravity `particle', giving rise to upper and lower bounds on the mass/radius ratio of stable, compact, strongly interacting objects. We show, explicitly, that the existence of the lower mass bound is induced by the presence of $Λ_f$, producing a mass gap, and that the upper bound corresponds to a deconfinement phase transition. The physical implications of our results for holographic duality in the context of the AdS/QCD and dS/QCD correspondences are also discussed.

We derive upper and lower bounds on the mass-radius ratio of stable compact objects in extended gravity theories, in which modifications of the gravitational dynamics via-{\' a}-vis standard general relativity are described by an effective contribution to the matter energy-momentum tensor. Our results include the possibility of a variable coupling between the matter sector and the gravitational field and are valid for a large class of generalized gravity models. The generalized continuity and Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations are expressed in terms of the effective mass, density and pressure, given by the bare values plus additional contributions from the total energy-momentum tensor, and general theoretical limits for the maximum and minimum mass-radius ratios are explicitly obtained. As an applications of the formalism developed herein, we consider compact bosonic objects, described by scalar-tensor gravitational theories with self-interacting scalar field potentials, and charged compact objects, respectively. For Higgs type models, we find that these bounds can be expressed in terms of the value of the potential at the surface of the compact object. Minimizing the energy with respect to the radius, we obtain explicit upper and lower bounds on the mass, which admits a Chandrasekhar type representation. For charged compact objects, we consider the effects of the Poincaré stresses on the equilibrium structure and obtain bounds on the radial and tangential stresses. As a possible astrophysical test of our results, we obtain the general bound on the gravitational redshift for compact objects in extended gravity theories. General implications of minimum mass bounds for the gravitational stability of fundamental particles and for the existence of holographic duality between bulk and boundary degrees of freedom are also considered.

We study the shear viscosity in an effective hydrodynamic theory and holographic model where the translational symmetry is broken by massless scalar fields. We identify the shear viscosity, $η$, from the coefficient of the shear tensor in the modified constitutive relation, constructed from thermodynamic quantities, fluid velocity and the scalar fields, which break the translational symmetry explicitly. Our construction of constitutive relation is inspired by those derived from the fluid/gravity correspondence in the weakly disordered limit $m/T \ll 1$. We show that the shear viscosity from the constitutive relation deviates from the one obtained from the usual expression, $η^\star = -\lim_{ω\to 0}(1/ω) \text{Im} G^{R}_{T^{xy}T^{xy}}(ω,k=0)$, even at the leading order in disorder strength. In a simple holographic model with broken translational symmetry, we show that both $η/s$ and $η^\star/s$ violate the bound of viscosity-entropy ratio for arbitrary disorder strength.

We obtain bounds for the minimum and maximum mass/radius ratio of a stable, charged, spherically symmetric compact object in a $D$-dimensional space-time in the framework of general relativity, and in the presence of dark energy. The total energy, including the gravitational component, and the stability of objects with minimum mass/radius ratio is also investigated. The minimum energy condition leads to a representation of the mass and radius of the charged objects with minimum mass/radius ratio in terms of the charge and vacuum energy only. As applied to the electron in the four-dimensional case, this procedure allows one to re-obtain the classical electron radius from purely general relativistic considerations. By combining the lower mass bound, in four space-time dimensions, with minimum length uncertainty relations (MLUR) motivated by quantum gravity, we obtain an alternative bound for the maximum charge/mass ratio of a stable, gravitating, charged quantum mechanical object, expressed in terms of fundamental constants. Evaluating this limit numerically, we obtain again the correct order of magnitude value for the charge/mass ratio of the electron, as required by the stability conditions. This suggests that, if the electron were either less massive (with the same charge) or if its charge were any higher (for fixed mass), a combination of electrostatic and dark energy repulsion would destabilize the Compton radius. In other words, the electron would blow itself apart. Our results suggest the existence of a deep connection between gravity, the presence of the cosmological constant, and the stability of fundamental particles.

The existence of both a minimum mass and a minimum density in nature, in the presence of a positive cosmological constant, is one of the most intriguing results in classical general relativity. These results follow rigorously from the Buchdahl inequalities in four dimensional de Sitter space. In this work, we obtain the generalized Buchdahl inequalities in arbitrary space-time dimensions with $Λ\neq 0$ and consider both the de Sitter and anti-de Sitter cases. The dependence on $D$, the number of space-time dimensions, of the minimum and maximum masses for stable spherical objects is explicitly obtained. The analysis is then extended to the case of dark energy satisfying an arbitrary linear barotropic equation of state. The Jeans instability of barotropic dark energy is also investigated, for arbitrary $D$, in the framework of a simple Newtonian model with and without viscous dissipation, and we determine the dispersion relation describing the dark energy$-$matter condensation process, along with estimates of the corresponding Jeans mass (and radius). Finally, the quantum mechanical implications of mass limits are investigated, and we show that the existence of a minimum mass scale naturally leads to a model in which dark energy is composed of a `sea' of quantum particles, each with an effective mass proportional to $Λ^{1/4}$.

In the dual gauge picture, they correspond to the mixed phase of quark-gluon plasma~(QGP) and hadron gas in the fixed chemical potential and density ensemble respectively. In the nuclei and heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies, the mixed phase of exotic QGP and hadron gas could be produced. We study static AdS star in generic dimension. The dependence of the mass limit to the bulk fermion mass is explored. In the bulk conformal limit, the mass limit saturates at a value identical to the mass limit of a radiation star or the AdS space filling with pure radiation. The temperature and entropy of the degenerate AdS star in the bulk conformal limit is zero in contrast to the radiation star. Holographically, the universal mass limit corresponds to the upper limit of the deconfinement temperature in the dual gauge picture. The QGP at this temperature is dual to the large black hole and the heat capacity is positive. When the fermion mass increases, the mass limit falls into the range of the small black holes. We found that even though the small black hole has negative heat capacity, the AdS box allows possibilities that it remains in thermal equilibrium with the radiation as long as the size of the black hole is not smaller than a critical size. Consequently, the dual QGP with negative heat capacity can be produced and remains stable thermodynamically at temperature below a saturation temperature $T_{2}$. The QGP with negative heat capacity produced at higher temperature will still condensate completely into a gas of confined hadron.

In contrast to conventional NJL with 4-fermion contact interaction, the chiral symmetry was previously found to be dynamically broken for arbitrary weak coupling at the one-loop level. As a confirmation, the approximate numerical solutions to the gap equation at one loop are explicitly demonstrated for weak couplings. We then calculate the one and two-loop contribution to the effective potential of the non-local NJL model and found that the two-loop contribution is negative. The two-loop potential for the chiral symmetric vacuum is also negative but larger than the combined effective potential of the chiral broken vacuum at the two-loop level. A warm fermionic AdS star under a homogeneous magnetic field is explored. We obtain the relativistic Landau levels by using Dirac equation and use the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation to study the physical profiles of the star. Bulk properties such as sound speed, adiabatic index, and entropy density within the star are calculated analytically and numerically. Bulk temperature increases the mass limit of the AdS star but external magnetic field has the opposite effect. The results are partially interpreted in terms of the pre-thermalization process of the gauge matter at the AdS boundary after the mass injection. The entropy density is found to demonstrate similar temperature dependence as the magnetic black brane in the AdS in certain limits regardless of the different nature of the bulk and Hawking temperatures. Total entropy of the AdS star is also found to be an increasing function of the bulk temperature and a decreasing function of the magnetic field, similar behaviour to the mass limit. Since both total entropy and mass limit are global quantities, they could provide some hints to the value of entropy and energy of the dual gauge matter before and during the thermalization.

In the mixed MQ-$\mathcal{5}φ$ phase, the pion gradient induced by the external magnetic field is found to be a linear response for small and moderate field strengths. Its population ratio decreases as the density is raised and thus the multiquarks dominate the phase. Temperature dependence of the baryon chemical potential, the free energy and the linear pion gradient response of the multiquark phase are well approximated by a simple analytic function $\sqrt{1-\frac{T^{6}}{T^{6}_{0}}}$ inherited from the metric of the holographic background.

We investigate the effects of chameleon scalar field to the effective density and pressure of a dark matter halo. The pressure is generated from the chameleonic fifth force on the matter. We demonstrate that the thick-shell non-singular boundary condition which forbids singular point leads to extremely stringent constraint on the matter-chameleon coupling when applied to galaxy. We argue that chameleon profile with central singularity is more likely to develop in general physical situation. The chameleonic fifth force from the chameleon profile with central singularity experienced by the dark matter could significantly modify the rotation curve of galaxies. The chameleonic fifth force could generate steeper cusp to the rotation curves in any dark matter profiles starting from the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) to the pseudo-isothermal (ISO) profile. Upper limits on the coupling constant between the chameleon and the dark matter are estimated from observational data of the late-type Low-Surface-Brightness galaxies (LSB). It is in the order of $β< 10^{-3}$.

We study thermodynamic properties of the multiquark nuclear matter. The dependence of the equation of state on the colour charges is explored both analytically and numerically in the limits where the baryon density is small and large at fixed temperature between the gluon deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration. The gravitational stability of the hypothetical multiquark stars are discussed using the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation. Since the equations of state of the multiquarks can be well approximated by different power laws for small and large density, the content of the multiquark stars has the core and crust structure. We found that most of the mass of the star comes from the crust region where the density is relatively small. The mass limit of the multiquark star is determined as well as its relation to the star radius. For typical energy density scale of $10\text{GeV}/\text{fm}^{3}$, the converging mass and radius of the hypothetical multiquark star in the limit of large central density are approximately $2.6-3.9$ solar mass and 15-27 km. The adiabatic index and sound speed distributions of the multiquark matter in the star are also calculated and discussed. The sound speed never exceeds the speed of light and the multiquark matters are thus compressible even at high density and pressure.

We study the magnetic properties of the coloured multiquark states in the quark-gluon plasma where the gluons are deconfined and the chiral symmetry is still broken, using the Sakai-Sugimoto model. There are two possible magnetized multiquark configurations. Both configurations converge to the same configuration at the critical field and temperature before they dissociate altogether either into less coloured multiquarks or into other phases for a fixed density. It is also found that the multiquarks with higher colour charges respond more to the external magnetic field in both the magnetization and the degree of chiral symmetry breaking. Magnetic field also makes it more difficult for multiquark states with large colour charges to satisfy the equilibrium condition of the configuration in the gravity dual picture. As long as the chemical potential $μ> μ_{onset}$, the magnetized multiquarks phase is thermodynamically preferred over the magnetized vacuum. Pure pion gradient and the chiral-symmetric quark-gluon plasma ($χ_S$-QGP) phase for the general Sakai-Sugimoto model are discussed and compared with the multiquark phase in the presence of the magnetic field. It is found that at large densities and moderate fields, the mixed phase of multiquarks and the pion gradient is thermodynamically preferred over the $χ_S$-QGP.

In the deconfined phase of quark-gluon plasma, it seems that most of the quarks, antiquarks and gluons should be effectively free in the absence of the linear confining potential. However, the remaining Coulomb-type potential between quarks in the plasma could still be sufficiently strong that certain bound states, notably of heavy quarks such as $J/ψ$ are stable even in the deconfined plasma up to a certain temperature. Baryons can also exist in the deconfined phase provided that the density is sufficiently large.
We study three kinds of exotic multi-quark bound states in the deconfined phase of quark-gluon plasma from gravity dual models in addition to the normal baryon. They are $k$-baryon, $(N+\bar{k})$-baryon and a bound state of $j$ mesons which we call "$j$-mesonance". Binding energies and screening lengths of these exotic states are studied and are found to have similar properties to those of mesons and baryons at the leading order. Phase diagram for the exotic nuclear phases is subsequently studied in the Sakai-Sugimoto model. Even though the exotics are less stable than normal baryons, in the region of high chemical potential and low temperature, they are more stable thermodynamically than the vacuum and chiral-symmetric quark-gluon plasma phases ($χ$S-QGP).

Recently, it was found by Greene and Levin that the Casimir energy of certain combinations of massless and massive fields in space with extra dimensions play a crucial role in the accelerated expansion of the late-time universe and therefore it could serve as a candidate for the dark energy. It also provides a mechanism in stabilizing the volume moduli of extra dimensions. However, the shape moduli of the extra dimensions were never taken into account in the previous work. We therefore study the stabilization mechanism for both volume and shape moduli due to the Casimir energy in ${\mathbb M}^{1+3} \times {\mathbb T}^{2}$. The result of our study shows that the previously known local minimum is a saddle point. It is unstable to the perturbations in the direction of the shape moduli. The new stable local minima stabilizes all the moduli and drives the accelerating expansion of the universe. The cosmological dynamics both in the bulk and the radion pictures are derived and simulated. The equations of state for the Casimir energy in a general torus are derived. Shear viscosity in extra dimensions induced by the Casimir density in the late times is identified and calculated, it is found to be proportional to the Hubble constant.

We estimate the effective heavy quark and antiquark potential in the quark gluon plasma using the gravity dual theory. Two models are considered: $AdS_{5}$ and Sakai-Sugimoto model. The effective potential, obtained by using the rotating fundamental open-string configurations, has the angular momentum dependence which generalizes the static central potential. Motivated by the asymptotic form for zero angular momentum state, we fit the effective potential for $J=1,2$ states in the binding region. The fitting parameters are found to be functions of temperature. Finally, we discuss the differences and similarities of the effective potential between the two gravity dual models. An interesting result is that position of the minimum of potential is determined only by angular momentum and independent of the temperature.

We compute the screening length of mesons with different angular momentum $J$ from two gravity dual theories. Both the asymptotically $AdS_{5}$ and Sakai-Sugimoto metrics are considered in the calculations. Using the dual description of the quark as a classical string ending on the probe brane, we obtain the interacting potential between the heavy quark and antiquark after rotating the background metric. The result shows that the screening length of mesons with different $J$ is well fit to $a_{J}/T$. The constant $a_{J}$ is determined for $J=0,1,2$ by taking advantage of numerical techniques. Finally, we calculate the drag force and relaxation times from the Sakai-Sugimoto metric and compare with the ones obtained in the $AdS_{5}$. The application of our result to charmonium and bottomonium at RHIC and LHC is briefly discussed.

We investigate the TeV-scale stringy signals of the four-fermion scattering at the electron-positron collider with the center of mass energy 500-1000 GeV. The nature of the stringy couplings leads to distinguishable asymmetries comparing to the other new physics models. Specifically, the stringy states in the four-fermion scattering at the leading-order corrections are of spin-1 and 2 with the chiral couplings inherited from the gauge bosons identified as the zeroth-mode string states. The angular left-right, forward-backward, center-edge asymmetries and the corresponding polarized-beam asymmetries are investigated. The low-energy stringy corrections are compared to the ones induced by the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gravitons. The angular left-right asymmetry of the scattering with the final states of u and d-type quarks, namely c and b, shows significant deviations from the Standard Model values. The center-edge and forward-backward asymmetries for all final-states fermions also show significant deviations from the corresponding Standard Model values. The differences between the signatures induced by the stringy corrections and the KK gravitons are appreciable in both angular left-right and forward-backward asymmetries.

We discuss IR limit of four-fermion scattering amplitudes in braneworld models including intersecting-branes and SUSY SU(5) GUT version of it. With certain compactification where instanton effect is negligible, grand unification condition in D6-D6 intersecting-branes scenario subject to experimental constraint on proton decay provides possibility for upper limit on the string scale, $M_S$, through relationship between the string coupling, $g_s$, and the string scale. We discuss how IR divergence is related to number of twisted fields we have to introduce into intersection region and how it can change IR behaviour of tree-level amplitudes in various intersecting-branes models. Using number of twisted fields, we identify some intersecting-branes models whose tree-level amplitudes are purely stringy in nature and automatically proportional to $g_s/M^2_{S}$ at low energy. They are consequently suppressed by the string scale. For comparison, we also derive limit on the lower bound of the string scale from experimental constraint on proton decay induced from purely stringy contribution in the coincident-branes model, the limit is about $10^5$ TeV.

This report summarizes a study of the physics potential of the CLIC e+e- linear collider operating at centre-of-mass energies from 1 TeV to 5 TeV with luminosity of the order of 10^35 cm^-2 s^-1. First, the CLIC collider complex is surveyed, with emphasis on aspects related to its physics capabilities, particularly the luminosity and energy, and also possible polarization, γγand e-e- collisions. The next CLIC Test facility, CTF3, and its R&D programme are also reviewed. We then discuss aspects of experimentation at CLIC, including backgrounds and experimental conditions, and present a conceptual detector design used in the physics analyses, most of which use the nominal CLIC centre-of-mass energy of 3 TeV. CLIC contributions to Higgs physics could include completing the profile of a light Higgs boson by measuring rare decays and reconstructing the Higgs potential, or discovering one or more heavy Higgs bosons, or probing CP violation in the Higgs sector. Turning to physics beyond the Standard Model, CLIC might be able to complete the supersymmetric spectrum and make more precise measurements of sparticles detected previously at the LHC or a lower-energy linear e+e- collider: γγcollisions and polarization would be particularly useful for these tasks. CLIC would also have unique capabilities for probing other possible extensions of the Standard Model, such as theories with extra dimensions or new vector resonances, new contact interactions and models with strong WW scattering at high energies. In all the scenarios we have studied, CLIC would provide significant fundamental physics information beyond that available from the LHC and a lower-energy linear e+e- collider, as a result of its unique combination of high energy and experimental precision.

We expand the amplitudes into string resonance (SR) contributions and compare the total cross-section through the first SR with the $Z^{\prime}$ search at the Tevatron. We establish a current lower bound based on the CDF Run I results on the string scale to be about $1.1-2.1$ TeV, and it can be improved to about $1.5-3$ TeV with 2 fb$^{-1}$. At the LHC, we investigate the properties of signals induced by string resonances in dilepton and diphoton processes. We demonstrate the unique aspects of SR-induced signals distinguishable from other new physics, such as the angular distributions and forward-backward asymmetry. A 95% C.L. lower bound can be reached at the LHC for $M_S>8.2-10$ TeV with an integrated luminosity of 300 fb$^{-1}$. We emphasize the generic features and profound implications of the amplitude construction.

The amplitudes are required to reproduce those of the Standard Model at tree level in the low energy limit. We then obtain four-fermion contact interactions by expanding in inverse powers of the string scale and explore the constraints on the string scale from low energy data. The Chan-Paton factors and the string scale are treated as free parameters. We find that data from the neutral and charged current processes at HERA, Drell-Yan process at the Tevatron, and from LEP-II put lower bounds on the string scale M_S >= 0.9-1.3 TeV for typical values of the Chan-Paton factors, which are comparable to Tevatron bounds on Z' and W' masses.
