Nested Hilbert Schemes on Hirzebruch surfaces and quiver varieties
Abstract: For $n\ge 1$ we show that the length 1 nested Hilbert scheme of the total space $X_n$ of the line bundle $\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^1}(-n)$, parameterizing pairs of nested 0-cycles in $X_n$, is a quiver variety associated with a suitable quiver with relations. This generalizes previous work about nested Hilbert schemes on $\mathbb C^2$ in one direction, and about the Hilbert schemes of points of… ▽ More

Positivity for Higgs vector bundles: criteria and applications
Abstract: Working in the category of smooth projective varieties over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, we review notions of ampleness and numerical nefness for Higgs bundles which "feel" the Higgs field and formulate criteria of the Barton-Kleiman type for these notions. We give an application to minimal surfaces of general type that saturate the Miyaoka-Yau inequality, showing that their… ▽ More

Seiberg-Witten differentials on the Hitchin base
Abstract: In this note we describe explicitly, in terms of Lie theory and cameral data, the covariant (Gauss--Manin) derivative of the Seiberg--Witten differential defined on the weight-one variation of Hodge structures that exists on a Zariski open subset of the base of the Hitchin fibration. D3-brane supergravity solutions from Ricci-flat metrics on canonical bundles of Kähler-Einstein surfaces
Abstract: D3-brane solutions of type IIB supergravity can be obtained by means a classical ansatz involving a harmonic warp factor and two summands, the first being the flat Minkowskian metric of the D3 brane world-sheet and the second a Ricci flat metric on a suitable 6-dimensional transverse space, both twisted by the warp factor. Abstract: We briefly review an open conjecture about Higgs bundles that are semistable with after pulling back to any curve, and prove it in the rank 2 case. N=2 quiver gauge theories on A-type ALE spaces
Abstract: We survey and compare recent approaches to the computation of the partition functions and correlators of chiral BPS observables in $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories on ALE spaces based on quiver varieties and the minimal resolution $X_k$ of the $A_{k-1}$ toric singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/\mathbb{Z}_k$, in light of their recently conjectured duality with two-dimensional coset conformal field theories. Approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structures on semistable principal Higgs bundles
Abstract: We generalize the Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence between semistability and the existence of approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structures to the case of principal Higgs bundles. We prove that a principal Higgs bundle on a compact Kaehler manifold, with structure group a connected linear algebraic reductive group, is semistable if and only if it admits an approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structure.

ADHM data for the Hilbert scheme of points of the total space of $\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^1}(-n)$
Abstract: Relying on a monadic description of the moduli space of framed sheaves on Hirzebruch surfaces, we construct ADHM data for the Hilbert scheme of points of the total space of the line bundle $\mathcal O(-n)$ on $\mathbb P^1$.

Framed sheaves on root stacks and supersymmetric gauge theories on ALE spaces
Abstract: We develop a new approach to the study of supersymmetric gauge theories on ALE spaces using the theory of framed sheaves on root toric stacks, which illuminates relations with gauge theories on $\mathbb{R}^4$ and with two-dimensional conformal field theory. We construct a stacky compactification of the minimal resolution $X_k$ of the $A_{k-1}$ toric singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/\mathbb{Z}_k$, which i… ▽ More

Framed sheaves on projective stacks
Abstract: Given a normal projective irreducible stack $\mathscr X$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero we consider framed sheaves on $\mathscr X$, i.e., pairs $(\mathcal E,φ_{\mathcal E})$, where $\mathcal E$ is a coherent sheaf on $\mathscr X$ and $φ_{\mathcal E}$ is a morphism from $\mathcal E$ to a fixed coherent sheaf $\mathcal F$. After introducing a suitable notion of (semi)stabi… ▽ More

Restricting Higgs bundles to curves
Abstract: We determine some classes of varieties X - that include the varieties with numerically effective tangent bundle - satisfying the following property: if E is a Higgs bundle such that f*E is semistable for any morphism f from a smooth projective curve to X, then E is slope semistable and the discriminant of E is zero in H4(X,R). We also characterize some classes of varieties such that the underlying… ▽ More

Donagi-Markman cubic for the generalised Hitchin system
Abstract: Donagi and Markman (1993) have shown that the infinitesimal period map for an algebraic completely integrable Hamiltonian system is encoded in a section of the third symmetric power of the cotangent bundle to the base of the system. For the ordinary Hitchin system the cubic is given by a formula of Balduzzi and Pantev. We prove that the Balduzzi--Pantev formula holds along maximal rank symplectic… ▽ More

Nonabelian holomorphic Lie algebroid extensions
Abstract: We classify nonabelian extensions of Lie algebroids in the holomorphic category. Moreover we study a spectral sequence associated to any such extension. This spectral sequence generalizes the Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence for Lie algebras to the holomorphic Lie algebroid setting. As an application, we show that the hypercohomology of the Atiyah algebroid of a line bundle has a natural Hodge s… ▽ More

Moduli of symplectic instanton vector bundles of higher rank on projective space $\mathbb{P}^3$
Abstract: Symplectic instanton vector bundles on the projective space $\mathbb{P}^3$ constitute a natural generalization of mathematical instantons of rank 2. We study the moduli space $I_{n,r}$ of rank-$2r$ symplectic instanton vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with $r\ge2$ and second Chern class $n\ge r,\ n\equiv r({\rm mod}2)$. Picard group of hypersurfaces in toric 3-folds
Abstract: We show that the usual sufficient criterion for a generic hypersurface in a smooth projective manifold to have the same Picard number as the ambient variety can be generalized to hypersurfaces in complete simplicial toric varieties. This sufficient condition is always satisfied by generic K3 surfaces embedded in Fano toric 3-folds.
