Abstract:
Recently, Arkani-Hamed et al. proposed the existence of zeros in scattering amplitudes in certain quantum field theories including the cubic adjoint scalar theory Tr($φ^3$), the $SU(N)$ non-linear sigma model (NLSM) and Yang-Mills (YM) theory. Recently, Arkani-Hamed et al. proposed the existence of zeros in scattering amplitudes in certain quantum field theories including the cubic adjoint scalar theory Tr($φ^3$), the $SU(N)$ non-linear sigma model (NLSM) and Yang-Mills (YM) theory. These hidden zeros are special kinematic points where the amplitude vanishes and factorizes into a product of lower-point amplitudes, similar to factorization near poles. In this letter, we show a close connection between the existence of such zeros and color-kinematics duality. In fact, all zeros can be derived from the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) relations. We also show that these zeros extend via the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations to special Galileon amplitudes and their corrections, evincing that these hidden zeros are also present in permutation-invariant amplitudes.

We study a novel geometric expansion for scattering amplitudes in the planar sector of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, in the context of the Amplituhedron which reproduces the all-loop integrand as a canonical differential form on the positive geometry. In a paper by Arkani-Hamed, Henn and one of the authors, it was shown that this result can be recast in terms of negative geometries with a certain hierarchy of loops (closed cycles) in the space of loop momenta, represented by lines in momentum twistor space. One can then calculate an all-loop order result in the approximation where only tree graphs in the space of all loops are considered. Furthermore, using differential equation methods, it is possible to calculate and resum integrated expressions and obtain strong coupling results. In this paper, we provide a more general framework for the loops of loops expansion and outline a powerful method for the determination of differential forms for higher-order geometries. We solve the problem completely for graphs with one internal cycle, but the method can be used more generally for other geometries.

In this letter, we study tree-level scattering amplitudes of scalar particles in the context of effective field theories. We use tools similar to the soft bootstrap to build an ansatz for cyclically ordered amplitudes and impose the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) relations as a constraint. We obtain a set of BCJ-satisfying amplitudes as solutions to our procedure, which can be thought of as special higher-derivative corrections to SU(N) non-linear sigma model amplitudes satisfying BCJ relations to arbitrary multiplicity at leading order. The surprising outcome of our analysis is that BCJ conditions on higher-point amplitudes impose constraints on lower-point amplitudes, and they relate coefficients at different orders in the derivative expansion. This shows that BCJ conditions are much more restrictive than soft limit behavior, allowing only for a very small set of solutions.

In this paper we study on-shell diagrams in ${\cal N}{<}4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory. These are on-shell gauge invariant objects which appear as cuts of loop integrands in the context of generalized unitarity and serve as building blocks for amplitudes in recursion relations. In the dual formulation, they are associated with cells of the positive Grassmannian $G_+(k,n)$ and the on-shell functions can be reproduced as canonical differential forms. While for the case of the ${\cal N}{=}4$ maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory all poles in on-shell diagrams correspond to IR poles when the momentum flows in edges are zero, for ${\cal N}{<}4$ SYM theories there are new UV poles when the loop momenta go to infinity. These poles originate from the prefactor of the canonical dlog form and do not correspond to erasing edges in on-shell diagrams. We show that they can be interpreted as a diagrammatic operation which involves pinching a loop and performing a ``non-planar twist'' on external legs, which gives rise to a non-planar on-shell diagram. Our result provides an important clue on the role of poles at infinite momenta in on-shell scattering amplitudes, and the relation to non-planar on-shell functions.

We discuss how this framework allows non-integer spin extensions of recurrence relations for amplitudes developed for integer spin. Our results facilitate the on-going program for generating observables in classical general relativity from on-shell tree amplitudes through the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye relations and generalized unitarity.

The $ε$-regime of dilaton chiral perturbation theory is introduced. We compute the dilaton mass, the chiral condensate and the topological susceptibility in the $ε$-regime, as a function of the fermion mass. The microscopic spectral density of the Dirac operator is obtained from dilaton chiral perturbation theory. Our main result is that the chiral condensate and the spectral density are related to their counterparts from ordinary chiral perturbation theory via a simple scaling relation. This relation originates from the mass dependence of the dilaton potential, and is valid in both the $ε$-regime and the $p$-regime. In the $ε$-regime, moreover, all results agree with the universal predictions to leading order in $ε$.
