Optical bound states in the continuum (BICs) provide a way to engineer very narrow resonances in photonic crystals. The extended interaction time in such systems is particularly promising for enhancement of nonlinear optical processes and development of the next generation of active optical devices. However, the achievable interaction strength is limited by the purely photonic character of optical BICs. Here, we mix optical BIC in a photonic crystal slab with excitons in atomically thin semiconductor MoSe$_2$ to form nonlinear exciton-polaritons with a Rabi splitting of 27~meV, exhibiting large interaction-induced spectral blueshifts. The asymptotic BIC-like suppression of polariton radiation into far-field towards the BIC wavevector, in combination with effective reduction of excitonic disorder through motional narrowing, results in small polariton linewidths below 3~meV. Together with strongly wavevector-dependent Q-factor, this provides for enhancement and control of polariton--polariton interactions and resulting nonlinear optical effects, paving the way towards tunable BIC-based polaritonic devices for sensing, lasing, and nonlinear optics.

The polarization dependence of nonequilibrium transitions in a multistable cavity-polariton system is studied under a nanosecond long resonant optical excitation at the normal and magic angle incidences with various polarizations of the pump beam. The temporal correlations between the frequency, intensity, and optical polarization of the intra-cavity field, which all undergo sharp threshold-like changes due to the spin dependent interaction of cavity polaritons, are visualized. The observed dynamics cannot be reproduced within the conventional semi-classical model based on the Gross-Pitaevskii equations. To explain the observed phenomena, it is necessary to take into account the unpolarized exciton reservoir which brings on additional blueshift of bright excitons, equal in the $σ^+$ and $σ^-$ polarization components. This model explains the effect of polarization instability under both pulsed and continuous wave resonant excitation conditions, consistently with the spin ring pattern formation that has recently been observed under Gaussian shaped excitation.

Mechanisms of nonradiative recombination of electron-hole complexes in Cd(Mn)Se/Zn(Mn)Se quantum dots accompanied by interconfigurational excitations of Mn$^{2+}$ ions are analyzed within the framework of single electron model of deep {\it 3d}-levels in semiconductors. In addition to the mechanisms caused by Coulomb and exchange interactions, which are related because of the Pauli principle, another mechanism due to {\it sp-d} mixing is considered. It is shown that the Coulomb mechanism reduces to long-range dipole-dipole energy transfer from photoexcited quantum dots to Mn$^{2+}$ ions. The recombination due to the Coulomb mechanism is allowed for any states of Mn$^{2+}$ ions and {\it e-h} complexes. In contrast, short-range exchange and ${\it sp-d}$ recombinations are subject to spin selection rules, which are the result of strong {\it lh-hh} splitting of hole states in quantum dots. Estimates show that efficiency of the {\it sp-d} mechanism can considerably exceed that of the Coulomb mechanism. The phonon-assisted recombination and processes involving upper excited states of Mn$^{2+}$ ions are studied. The increase in PL intensity of an ensemble of quantum dots in a magnetic field perpendicular to the sample growth plane observed earlier is analyzed as a possible manifestation of the spin-dependent recombination.

Exciton level structure and interwell relaxation are studied in Cd(Mn,Mg)Te-based asymmetric double quantum wells (ADQWs) in normal to plane magnetic fields up to B = 10 T by a steady-state optical spectroscopy. As grown structures with nonmagnetic CdTe quantum wells (QWs) were subjected to quick temperature annealing to introduce Mn and Mg atoms from the barriers inside the wells resulting in formation of magnetic (MW) and nonmagnetic (NMW) QWs, respectively, with the concentration of diffused atoms of about 3--5%. A significant change of exciton energies occurs with magnetic field: at low fields exciton, localized in the MW, is higher in energy than that localized in the NMW and efficient exciton relaxation from the MW to the NMW takes place for all ADQWs. In all structures the giant Zeeman effect in the MW changes the energy order of $σ^+$-polarized heavy hole (hh) excitons, localized in different wells, at high B. Levels' crossing is accompanied by a reverse of tunneling direction without anticrossing. Calculations of single-particle states and their change with B indicate that the interwell exciton transfer is forbidden in the single-particle picture at B $\gtrsim$ 1 T for all studied structures. Experimentally, nevertheless, a very efficient interwell relaxation of excitons is found in the whole magnetic field range regardless of tunneling direction which evidences about importance of electron-hole Coulomb correlations in tunneling process. Different charge-transfer mechanism are analysed in details and elastic scattering due to strong disorder is suggested as the main tunneling mechanism of excitons with underlying influence of the valence band-mixing effects on the hh-exciton transfer in ADQWs with relaxed stress.
