For this investigation, we combine observations carried out at the Bulgarian National Astronomical Observatory - Rozhen using the FoReRo2 instrument attached to the 2mRCC telescope as well as sparse data from AstDys2 database. Parallel to the rotational properties we did numerical dynamical simulations to investigate the orbital stability of those objects and to find out if there is a relation with their rotational properties. Our results show that the orbit stability is affected by the orbit itself and mainly its eccentricity and inclination, which are responsible for the close encounters with other Solar system planets. We cannot make a definitive conclusion about the relation between orbit stability and the rotational state of the asteroids, so we need further investigations and observations in order to prove or disprove it.

Looking for similarities in the spectra with other types of stars is also of great interest to us because it could help clarify the stellar configuration of such objects. Our observations during the last two observational seasons of MWC560 confirm the absence of flickering. From the similarities of the gathered spectra of XX Oph and MWC560 we assume that the components in XX Oph are a red giant and a white dwarf, which are also surrounded by a common shell.

Hopfions are an intriguing class of string-like solitons, named according to a classical topological concept classifying three-dimensional direction fields. The search of hopfions in real physical systems is going on for nearly half a century, starting with the seminal work of Faddeev. But so far realizations in solids are missing. Here, we present a theory that identifies magnetic materials featuring hopfions as stable states without the assistance of confinement or external fields. Our results are based on an advanced micromagnetic energy functional derived from a spin-lattice Hamiltonian. Hopfions appear as emergent particles of the classical Heisenberg model. Magnetic hopfions represent three-dimensional particle-like objects of nanometre-size dimensions opening the gate to a new generation of spintronic devices in the framework of a truly three-dimensional architecture. Our approach goes beyond the conventional phenomenological models. We derive material-realistic parameters that serve as concrete guidance in the search of magnetic hopfions bridging computational physics with materials science.

We report the direct evidence of field-dependent character of the interaction between individual magnetic skyrmions as well as between skyrmions and edges in B20-type FeGe nanostripes observed by means of high resolution Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. It is shown that above certain critical values of external magnetic field the character of such long-range skyrmion interactions change from attraction to repulsion. Experimentally measured equilibrium inter-skyrmion and skrymion-edge distances as function of applied magnetic field shows quantitative agreement with the results of micromagnetic simulations. Important role of demagnetizing fields and internal symmetry of three-dimensional magnetic skyrmions are discussed in details.

The use of chiral skyrmions, which are nanoscale vortex-like spin textures, as movable data bit carriers forms the basis of a recently proposed concept for magnetic solid-state memory. In this concept, skyrmions are considered to be unique localized spin textures, which are used to encode data through the quantization of different distances between identical skyrmions on a guiding nanostripe. However, the conservation of distances between highly mobile and interacting skyrmions is difficult to implement in practice. Here, we report the direct observation of another type of theoretically-predicted localized magnetic state, which is referred to as a chiral bobber (ChB), using quantitative off-axis electron holography. We show that ChBs can coexist together with skyrmions. Our results suggest a novel approach for data encoding, whereby a stream of binary data representing a sequence of ones and zeros can be encoded via a sequence of skyrmions and bobbers. The need to maintain defined distances between data bit carriers is then not required. The proposed concept of data encoding promises to expedite the realization of a new generation of magnetic solid-state memory.

DDO68 (UGC5340) is an unusual dwarf galaxy with extremely low gas metallicity (12+log(O/H) = 7.14) residing in the nearby Lynx-Cancer void. Despite its apparent isolation, it shows both optical and HI morphological evidence for strong tidal disturbance. Here, we study the resolved stellar populations of DDO68 using deep images from the HST archive. We determined a distance of 12.75+-0.41 Mpc using the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB). The star formation history reconstruction reveals that about 60 per cent of stars formed during the initial period of star formation, about 12-14 Gyr ago. During the next 10 Gyr DDO68 was in the quenched state, with only slight traces of star formation. The onset of the most recent burst of star formation occurred about 300 Myr ago. We find that young populations with ages of several million to a few hundred million years are widely spread across various parts of DDO68, indicating an intense star formation episode with a high mean rate of 0.15 Msun/yr. A major fraction of the visible stars in the whole system (~80 per cent) have low metallicities: Z = Zsun/50 - Zsun/20. The properties of the northern periphery of DDO68 can be explained by an ongoing burst of star formation induced by the minor merger of a small, gas-rich, extremely metal-poor galaxy with a more typical dwarf galaxy. The current TRGB-based distance of DDO68 implies a total negative peculiar velocity of ~500 km/s.

Although thick stellar discs are detected in nearly all edge-on disc galaxies, their formation scenarios still remain a matter of debate. Due to observational difficulties, there is a lack of information about their stellar populations. Using the Russian 6-m telescope BTA we collected deep spectra of thick discs in three edge-on S0-a disc galaxies located in different environments: NGC4111 in a dense group, NGC4710 in the Virgo cluster, and NGC5422 in a sparse group. We see intermediate age (4-5 Gyr) metal rich ([Fe/H] $\sim$ -0.2 - 0.0 dex) stellar populations in NGC4111 and NGC4710. On the other hand, NGC5422 does not harbour young stars, its disc is thick and old (10 Gyr), without evidence for a second component, and its $α$-element abundance suggests a 1.5-2 Gyr long formation epoch implying its formation at high redshift. Our results suggest the diversity of thick disc formation scenarios.

We present the phase diagram of magnetic states for films of isotropic chiral magnets calculated as function of applied magnetic field and thickness of the film. We have found a novel magnetic state driven by the natural confinement of the crystal, localized at the surface and stacked on top of the conical bulk phase. This magnetic surface state has a three-dimensional (3D) chiral spin-texture described by the superposition of helical and cycloidal spin spirals. This surface state exists for a large range of applied magnetic fields and for any film thickness beyond a critical one. We also identified the whole thickness and field range for which the skyrmion lattice becomes the ground state of the system. Below a certain critical thickness the surface state and bulk conical phase are suppressed in favor of the skyrmion lattice. Unraveling of those phases and the construction of the phase diagram became possible using advanced computational techniques for direct energy minimization applied to a basic 3D model for chiral magnets. Presented results provide a comprehensive theoretical description for those effects already observed in experiments on thin films of chiral magnets, predict new effects important for applications and open perspectives for experimental studies of such systems.

Trojan asteroids orbit in the Lagrange points of the system Sun-planet-asteroid. Their dynamical stability make their physical properties important proxies for the early evolution of our solar system. To study their origin, we want to characterize the surfaces of Jupiter Trojan asteroids and check possible similarities with objects of the main belt and of the Kuiper Belt. We have obtained high-accuracy broad-band linear polarization measurements of six Jupiter Trojans of the L4 population and tried to estimate the main features of their polarimetric behaviour. We have compared the polarimetric properties of our targets among themselves, and with those of other atmosphere-less bodies of our solar system. Our sample show approximately homogeneous polarimetric behaviour, although some distinct features are found between them. In general, the polarimetric properties of Trojan asteroids are similar to those of D- and P-type main-belt asteroids. No sign of coma activity is detected in any of the observed objects. An extended polarimetric survey may help to further investigate the origin and the surface evolution of Jupiter Trojans.

Both features combine to a quasi-particle state for which we expect unusual transport and dynamical properties. It exhibits high thermal stability and thereby can be considered as promising object for fundamental research and practical applications in spintronic devices. We provide arguments that such a state can be found in different B20-type alloys e.g. Mn$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$Ge, Mn$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$Si, Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$Si.

The magnetic field perpendicular to the helical axis stabilizes the kink crystal state which plays a role of "topological protectorate" for the traveling soliton with a definite handedness. To find new soliton solution, we use the Bäcklund transformation technique. It is pointed out that the traveling soliton carries the magnon density and a magnetic solition transport may be realized.
