We study this matroid in detail and prove that its realization space is isomorphic (over $\mathbb{C}$) to the modular curve $X_1(n)$, provided $n\geq 10$, which also provides an integral model of $X_1(n)$. In the process, we find a connection to the classical Ceva and Böröczky examples of special point and line configurations. We also discuss the situation for smaller values of $n$.

Locally Integer Polynomial Functions

Abstract:
The goal of this short note is to bring attention to an interesting ring: the ring of $\mathbb Z$-valued functions on $\mathbb Z$ whose restrictions to all finite sets are given by polynomials with integer coefficients. My interest in these functions was inspired by the work of Sayak Sengupta on iterations of integer polynomials, but this and related objects appear to be of independent interest.

Two Appendices briefly describe the properties of Weyl, Dirac, and Majorana spinors in four dimensions and the interrelations between such spinors. Abstract:
A line bundle is immaculate if its cohomology vanishes in every dimension. We give a criterion for when a smooth toric Deligne-Mumford stack has infinitely many immaculate line bundles. This answers positively a question of Borisov and Wang. As a byproduct, we describe the asymptotic behaviour of the collection of immaculate line bundles.

The plasmonic tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) is functionalized with a single fluorescent molecule and is scanned on a plasmonic substrate. The tunneling current flowing through the tip-molecule-substrate junction generates a narrow-line emission of light corresponding to the fluorescence of the negatively charged molecule suspended at the apex of the tip, i.e., the emission of the excited molecular anion (trion). The fluorescence of this molecular probe is recorded for tip-substrate nanocavities featuring different plasmonic resonances, for different tip-substrate distances and applied bias voltages, and on different substrates. We demonstrate that the width of the emission peak can be used as a probe of the trion-plasmon coupling strength and that the energy of the emitted photons is governed by the molecule interactions with its electrostatic environment. Additionally, we theoretically elucidate why the direct contact of the suspended molecule with the metallic tip does not totally quench the radiative emission of the molecule.

We have been performing daily observations of bright microquasars at 1.2-20~GHz with the Northern sector of RATAN-600 radio telescope for more than ten years. During the 2019--2021 observations we recorded bright flares, which we call giant flares because fluxes reach record levels -- above 20~Jy -- during these events. In this paper we report the results of intraday variations of the Cygnus~X-3} microquasar in multi-azimuth observations made with the "North sector with a flat-sheet reflector" during giant flares of Cygnus X-3. These were the first such observations made simultaneously at several frequencies on a short time scale (10 minutes). Observational data consists of 31 measurement made within +/-2.7 hours of the culmination of the object. We are the first to discover the evolution of the spectrum of the flare emission of Cygnus~X-3 on a time scale comparable to the orbital period of the binary. The measurement data allowed us to determine the temporal and spectral parameters of radio emission, which are typical for synchrotron flare emission in relativistic jets. Evolution of the radio emission of X-ray binaries on short time scales is a key to understanding the formation of jet outbursts in the process of mass accretion of the matter of the donor star onto the relativistic object.

Inelastic electron tunneling in a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is used to generate excitons in monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS$_2$). Excitonic electroluminescence is measured both at positive and negative sample bias. Using optical spectroscopy and Fourier-space optical microscopy, we show that the bias polarity of the tunnel junction determines the spectral and angular distribution of the emitted light. At positive sample bias, only emission from excitonic species featuring an in-plane transition dipole moment is detected. Based on the spectral distribution of the emitted light, we infer that the dominant contribution is from charged excitons, i.e., trions. At negative sample bias, additional contributions from lower-energy excitonic species are evidenced in the emission spectra and the angular distribution of the emitted light reveals a mixed character of in-plane and out-of-plane transition dipole moments.

The interactions between the excited states of a single chromophore with static and dynamic electric fields confined to a plasmonic cavity of picometer dimensions are investigated in a joint experimental and theoretical effort. In this configuration, the spatial extensions of the confined fields are smaller than the one of the molecular exciton, a property that is used to generate fluorescence maps of the chromophores with intra-molecular resolution. Theoretical simulations of the electrostatic and electrodynamic interactions occurring at the chromophore-picocavity junction are able to reproduce and interpret these hyper-resolved fluorescence maps, and reveal the key role played by subtle variations of Purcell, Lamb and Stark effects at the chromophore-picocavity junction.

For a small momentum component of the incident beam perpendicular to the surface, we observe an increase of the elastic rainbow angle together with a broadening of the inelastic scattering profile. We interpret these two effects as the refraction of the atomic wave in the attractive part of the surface potential. We use a fast, rigorous dynamical diffraction calculation to find a projectile-surface potential model that enables a quantitative reproduction of the experimental data for up to ten diffraction orders. This allows us to extract an attractive potential well depth of 10.4 meV. Our results set a benchmark for more refined surface potential models which include the weak Van der Waals region, a long-standing challenge in the study of atom-surface interactions.

We present a description of the new complex installation for the study of extensive air showers which was created at the Tien Shan mountain cosmic ray station, as well as the results of the test measurements made there in 2014-2016. At present, the system for registration of electromagnetic shower component consists of $\sim$100 detector points built on the basis of plastic scintillator plates with the sensitive area of 0.25m$^2$ and 1m$^2$, spread equidistantly over $\sim$10$^4$m$^2$ space. The dynamic range of scintillation amplitude measurements is currently about $(3-7)\cdot 10^4$, and there is a prospect of it being extended up to $\sim$10$^6$. The direction of shower arrival is defined by signal delays from a number of the scintillators placed cross-wise at the periphery of the detector system. For the investigation of nuclear active shower components there was created a multi-tier 55m$^2$ ionization-neutron calorimeter with a sum absorber thickness of $\sim$1000g/cm$^2$, typical spatial resolution of the order of 10cm, and dynamic range of ionization measurement channel about $\sim$10$^5$. Also, the use of saturation-free neutron detectors is anticipated for registration of the high- and low-energy hadron components in the region of shower core. A complex of underground detectors is designed for the study of muonic and penetrative nuclear-active components of the shower.
The full stack of data acquisition, detector calibration, and shower parameters restoration procedures are now completed, and the newly obtained shower size spectrum and lateral distribution of shower particles occur in agreement with conventional data. Future studies in the field of $10^{14}-10^{17}$eV cosmic ray physics to be held at the new shower installation are discussed.

Abstract:
We study line bundles on smooth toric DM stacks $\mathbb{P}_{\mathbfΣ}$ of arbitrary dimension. A sufficient condition is given for when infinitely many line bundles on $\mathbb{P}_{\mathbfΣ}$ have trivial cohomology. In dimension three, the sufficient condition is also a necessary condition in the case that $\mathbfΣ$ has no more than one pair of collinear rays.

Hopfions are an intriguing class of string-like solitons, named according to a classical topological concept classifying three-dimensional direction fields. The search of hopfions in real physical systems is going on for nearly half a century, starting with the seminal work of Faddeev. But so far realizations in solids are missing. Here, we present a theory that identifies magnetic materials featuring hopfions as stable states without the assistance of confinement or external fields. Our results are based on an advanced micromagnetic energy functional derived from a spin-lattice Hamiltonian. Hopfions appear as emergent particles of the classical Heisenberg model. Magnetic hopfions represent three-dimensional particle-like objects of nanometre-size dimensions opening the gate to a new generation of spintronic devices in the framework of a truly three-dimensional architecture. Our approach goes beyond the conventional phenomenological models. We derive material-realistic parameters that serve as concrete guidance in the search of magnetic hopfions bridging computational physics with materials science.

For a Chaplygin sleigh moving in the presence of weak friction, we present and investigate two mechanisms of arising acceleration due to oscillations of an internal mass. In certain parameter regions, the mechanism induced by small oscillations determines acceleration which is on average one-directional. The role of friction is that the velocity reached in the process of the acceleration is stabilized at a certain level. The second mechanism is due to the effect of parametric excitation of oscillations, when the internal moving particle is comparable in mass with the main platform, and, as occurs, a necessary condition for the acceleration is presence of friction. The parametric instability and the resulting acceleration of the sleigh turn out to be bounded if the line of oscillations of the moving mass is displaced from the center of mass. The steady-state regime of motion is in many cases associated with a chaotic attractor; accordingly, the motion of the sleigh turns out to be similar to the process of random walk on a plane.

A detailed analysis is made of the problem of the existence of regimes with unbounded growth of energy (an analogue of Fermi's acceleration) in the case where excitation is achieved by means of a rotor with variable angular momentum. The existence of trajectories for which the translational velocity of the sleigh increases indefinitely and has the asymptotics $τ^{\frac{1}{3}}$ is proved. In addition, it is shown that, when viscous friction with a nondegenerate Rayleigh function is added, unbounded speed-up disappears and the trajectories of the reduced system asymptotically tend to a limit cycle.

It was shown by Kuznetsov that complete intersections of $n$ generic quadrics in ${\mathbb P}^{2n-1}$ are related by Homological Projective Duality to certain non-commutative (Clifford) varieties which are in some sense birational to double covers of ${\mathbb P}^{n-1}$ ramified over symmetric determinantal hypersurfaces. Mirror symmetry predicts that the Hodge numbers of the complete intersections of quadrics must coincide with the appropriately defined Hodge numbers of these double covers. We observe that these numbers must be different from the well-known Batyrev's stringy Hodge numbers, else the equality fails already at the level of Euler characteristics. We define a natural modification of stringy Hodge numbers for the particular class of Clifford varieties, and prove the corresponding equality of Euler characteristics in arbitrary dimension.

Getting a better understanding of user behavior is important for advancing information retrieval systems. Existing work focuses on modeling and predicting single interaction events, such as clicks. In this paper, we for the first time focus on modeling and predicting sequences of interaction events. And in particular, sequences of clicks.
We formulate the problem of click sequence prediction and propose a click sequence model (CSM) that aims to predict the order in which a user will interact with search engine results. CSM is based on a neural network that follows the encoder-decoder architecture. The encoder computes contextual embeddings of the results. The decoder predicts the sequence of positions of the clicked results. It uses an attention mechanism to extract necessary information about the results at each timestep. We optimize the parameters of CSM by maximizing the likelihood of observed click sequences.
We test the effectiveness of CSM on three new tasks: (i) predicting click sequences, (ii) predicting the number of clicks, and (iii) predicting whether or not a user will interact with the results in the order these results are presented on a search engine result page (SERP). Also, we show that CSM achieves state-of-the-art results on a standard click prediction task, where the goal is to predict an unordered set of results a user will click on.

It is shown that above certain critical values of external magnetic field the character of such long-range skyrmion interactions change from attraction to repulsion. Experimentally measured equilibrium inter-skyrmion and skrymion-edge distances as function of applied magnetic field shows quantitative agreement with the results of micromagnetic simulations. Important role of demagnetizing fields and internal symmetry of three-dimensional magnetic skyrmions are discussed in details.

This paper is concerned with the Chaplygin sleigh with timevarying mass distribution (parametric excitation). The focus is on the case where excitation is induced by a material point that executes periodic oscillations in a direction transverse to the plane of the knife edge of the sleigh. In this case, the problem reduces to investigating a reduced system of two first-order equations with periodic coefficients, which is similar to various nonlinear parametric oscillators. Depending on the parameters in the reduced system, one can observe different types of motion, including those accompanied by strange attractors leading to a chaotic (diffusion) trajectory of the sleigh on the plane. The problem of unbounded acceleration (an analog of Fermi acceleration) of the sleigh is examined in detail. It is shown that such an acceleration arises due to the position of the moving point relative to the line of action of the nonholonomic constraint and the center of mass of the platform. Various special cases of existence of tensor invariants are found.

Given the uncertain experimental situation on the $Y$ states, we allow for different spectra and discuss the related parameters in the diquark model. In addition to the presently observed ones, we expect many more states in the supermultiplet of $L=1$ diquarkonia, whose $J^{PC}$ quantum numbers and masses are worked out, using the parameters from the currently preferred $Y$-states pattern. The existence of these new resonances would be a decisive footprint of the underlying diquark dynamics.

We consider the two-body problem on surfaces of constant non-zero curvature and classify the relative equilibria and their stability. On the hyperbolic plane, for each q>0 we show there are two relative equilibria where the masses are separated by a distance q. One of these is geometrically of elliptic type and the other of hyperbolic type. The hyperbolic ones are always unstable, while the elliptic ones are stable when sufficiently close, but unstable when far apart.
On the sphere of positive curvature, if the masses are different, there is a unique relative equilibrium (RE) for every angular separation except π/2. When the angle is acute, the RE is elliptic, and when it is obtuse the RE can be either elliptic or linearly unstable. We show using a KAM argument that the acute ones are almost always nonlinearly stable. If the masses are equal there are two families of relative equilibria: one where the masses are at equal angles with the axis of rotation (`isosceles RE') and the other when the two masses subtend a right angle at the centre of the sphere. The isosceles RE are elliptic if the angle subtended by the particles is acute and is unstable if it is obtuse. At π/2, the two families meet and a pitchfork bifurcation takes place. Right-angled RE are elliptic away from the bifurcation point.
In each of the two geometric settings, we use a global reduction to eliminate the group of symmetries and analyse the resulting reduced equations which live on a 5-dimensional phase space and possess one Casimir function.

We study the intersection of two copies of $\mathrm{Gr}(2,5)$ embedded in $\mathbf{P}^9$, and the intersection of the two projectively dual Grassmannians in the dual projective space. These intersections are deformation equivalent, derived equivalent Calabi-Yau threefolds. We prove that generically they are not birational. As a consequence, we obtain a counterexample to the birational Torelli problem for Calabi-Yau threefolds. We also show that these threefolds give a new pair of varieties whose classes in the Grothendieck ring of varieties are not equal, but whose difference is annihilated by a power of the class of the affine line. Our proof of non-birationality involves a detailed study of the moduli stack of Calabi-Yau threefolds of the above type, which may be of independent interest.

The use of chiral skyrmions, which are nanoscale vortex-like spin textures, as movable data bit carriers forms the basis of a recently proposed concept for magnetic solid-state memory. In this concept, skyrmions are considered to be unique localized spin textures, which are used to encode data through the quantization of different distances between identical skyrmions on a guiding nanostripe. However, the conservation of distances between highly mobile and interacting skyrmions is difficult to implement in practice. Here, we report the direct observation of another type of theoretically-predicted localized magnetic state, which is referred to as a chiral bobber (ChB), using quantitative off-axis electron holography. We show that ChBs can coexist together with skyrmions. Our results suggest a novel approach for data encoding, whereby a stream of binary data representing a sequence of ones and zeros can be encoded via a sequence of skyrmions and bobbers. The need to maintain defined distances between data bit carriers is then not required. The proposed concept of data encoding promises to expedite the realization of a new generation of magnetic solid-state memory.

We study a two-parameter family of K3 surfaces of (generic) Picard rank $18$ which is mirror to the $18$-dimensional family of elliptically fibered K3 surfaces with a section. Members of this family are given as compactifications of hypersurfaces in three dimensional algebraic torus given by equations $y^2+z+z^{-1} + x^3 + ax +b =0$ where $a$ and $b$ are the parameters of the family. It follows from previous work of Morrison that these surfaces are double covers of Kummer surfaces coming from products of elliptic curves, and we establish this connection explicitly. This in turn provides a description of the one-parameter families of K3 surfaces which are mirror to polarized K3 surfaces of Picard rank one.
It has been brought to our attention that the results of this paper have already appeared in the literature. The appropriate references are added at the end of the introduction.

The exponential parameterization of Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata mixing matrix for neutrino is used for comparative analysis of different neutrino mixing data. The UPMNS matrix is considered as the element of the SU(3) group and the second order matrix polynomial is constructed for it. The inverse problem of constructing the logarithm of the mixing matrix is addressed. In this way the standard parameterization is related to the exponential parameterization exactly. The exponential form allows easy factorization and separate analysis of the rotation and the CP violation. With the most recent experimental data on the neutrino mixing (May 2016), we calculate the values of the exponential parameterization matrix for neutrinos with account for the CP violation. The complementarity hypothesis for quarks and neutrinos is demonstrated to hold, despite significant change in the neutrino mixing data. The values of the entries of the exponential mixing matrix are evaluated with account for the actual degree of the CP violation in neutrino mixing and without it. Various factorizations of the CP violating term are investigated in the framework of the exponential parameterization.
