Gauge invariance of radiative jet functions in the position-space formulation of SCET
Abstract: In subleading powers of soft-collinear effective theory (SCET), the Lagrangian contains couplings between soft quarks and hard-collinear quarks. Matrix elements of the hard-collinear parts of these couplings are radiative jet functions. In the position-space formulation of SCET, the Lagrangians are constructed from operators that appear to be gauge invariant. Nevertheless, we find violations of ga… ▽ More

Renormalization of the radiative jet function
Abstract: We show how to compute directly the renormalization/evolution of the radiative jet function that appears in the factorization theorems for $B\to γ\ellν$ and $H\to γγ$ through a $b$-quark loop. We point out that, in order to avoid double counting of soft contributions, one should use in the factorization theorems a subtracted radiative jet function, from which soft contributions have been removed.… ▽ More

Potential-model calculation of an order-v^2 NRQCD matrix element
Abstract: We present two methods for computing dimensionally-regulated NRQCD heavy-quarkonium matrix elements that are related to the second derivative of the heavy-quarkonium wave function at the origin. The first method makes use of a hard-cutoff regulator as an intermediate step and requires knowledge only of the heavy-quarkonium wave function. It involves a significant cancellation that is an obstacle… ▽ More

Reconciling the light-cone and nonrelativistic QCD approaches to calculating e+ e- -> J/psi + eta_c
Abstract: It has been suggested in Ref. [A. E. Bondar and V. L. Chernyak, Phys. Lett. B 612, 215 (2005)] that the disagreement between theoretical calculations and experimental observations for the rate for the process e+ e- -> J/psi + eta_c at the B factories might be resolved by using the light-cone method to take into account the relative momentum of the heavy-quark and antiquark in the quarkonia. The… ▽ More

Comparison of the color-evaporation model and the NRQCD factorization approach in charmonium production
Abstract: We compare the color-evaporation model (CEM) and nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization predictions for inclusive quarkonium production. Using the NRQCD factorization formulas for quarkonium production and for perturbative QQ-bar production, we deduce relationships that are implied by the CEM between the nonperturbative NRQCD matrix elements that appear in the factorization formula for quarko… ▽ More

Spin correlations and velocity-scaling in color-octet NRQCD matrix elements
Abstract: We compute spin-dependent decay matrix elements for S-wave charmonium and bottomonium in lattice nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD). Particular emphasis is placed upon the color-octet matrix elements, since the corresponding production matrix elements are expected to appear in the dominant contributions to the production cross sections at large transverse momenta. We use three slight… ▽ More

Spin Correlations and Velocity-Scaling in NRQCD Matrix Elements

Hard probes in heavy ion collisions at the LHC: heavy flavour physics
Abstract: We present the results from the heavy quarks and quarkonia working group. This report gives benchmark heavy quark and quarkonium cross sections for $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at the LHC against which the $AA$ rates can be compared in the study of the quark-gluon plasma. We also provide an assessment of the theoretical uncertainties in these benchmarks. We then discuss some of the cold matter effec… ▽ More

Relativistic corrections to gluon fragmentation into spin-triplet S-wave quarkonium
Abstract: We use the NRQCD factorization formalism to calculate the relativistic corrections to the fragmentation function for a gluon fragmenting into a spin-triplet S-wave heavy quarkonium. We make use of the gauge-invariant formulation of the fragmentation function of Collins and Soper. The color-octet contribution receives a large, negative relativistic correction, while the color-singlet contribution… ▽ More

Exclusive Double-Charmonium Production from e^+ e^- Annihilation into Two Virtual Photons
Abstract: We calculate the contributions from QED processes involving two virtual photons to the cross sections for e^+ e^- annihilation into two charmonium states with the same C-parity. Generically, the cross sections are three orders of magnitude smaller than those for charmonia with opposite C-parity because they are suppressed by a factor of alpha^2/alpha_s^2. However, if both charmonia have quantum… ▽ More

e^+ e^- Annihilation into J/psi + J/psi
Abstract: Recent measurements by the Belle Collaboration of the exclusive production of two charmonia in e^+ e^- annihilation differ substantially from theoretical predictions. We suggest that a significant part of the discrepancy can be explained by the process e^+ e^- -> J/psi + J/psi. Because the J/psi + J/psi production process can proceed through fragmentation of two virtual photons into two cc-bar p… ▽ More
