Energy dependence of phi meson production in central Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(s_nn) = 6 to 17 GeV
Abstract: Phi meson production is studied by the NA49 Collaboration in central Pb+Pb collisions at 20A, 30A, 40A, 80A and 158A GeV beam energy. The data are compared with measurements at lower and higher energies and to microscopic and thermal models. The energy dependence of yields and spectral distributions is compatible with the assumption that partonic degrees of freedom set in at low SPS energies.

Event-by-event transverse momentum fluctuations in nuclear collisions at CERN SPS
Abstract: The latest NA49 results on event-by-event transverse momentum fluctuations are presented for central Pb+Pb interactions over the whole SPS energy range (20A - 158A GeV). Two different methods are applied: evaluating the $Φ_{p_{T}}$ fluctuation measure and studying two-particle transverse momentum correlations. The obtained results are compared to predictions of the UrQMD model. The results on th… ▽ More

Centrality and Energy Dependence of Proton, Light Fragment and Hyperon Production
Abstract: Recent results of the NA49 collaboration are discussed. These include the energy dependence of stop** and the production of the light fragments t and 3He. New data on the system size dependence of hyperon production at 40A and 158AGeV are also presented.

Review of Structures in the Energy Dependence of Hadronic Observables
Abstract: The energy dependence of various hadronic observables is reviewed. The study of their evolution from AGS over SPS to the highest RHIC energy reveals interesting features, which might locate a possible onset of deconfinement. These observables include transverse spectra of different particle types and their total multiplicities, as well as elliptic flow. In this context especially the observation… ▽ More

High pt Measurements at the CERN SPS
Abstract: The current experimental situation concerning high pt observables at the CERN SPS is reviewed. Recent data from the NA45, NA49 and NA57 collaborations are discussed and compared to earlier measurements by WA98 and NA45 at the same center-of-mass energies, as well as to measurements at the higher energies by the RHIC experiments. The observables include new p+p, A+A spectra, nuclear modification… ▽ More

Recent results from NA49
Abstract: New results of the NA49 collaboration on strange particle production are presented. Rapidity and transverse mass spectra as well as total multiplicities are discussed. The study of their evolution from AGS over SPS to the highest RHIC energy reveals a couple of interesting features. These include a sudden change in the energy dependence of the m_t-spectra and of the yields of strange hadrons aro… ▽ More

Energy dependence of hadronic observables in central Pb+Pb reactions at the CERN SPS
Abstract: In the recent years the NA49 experiment has collected data on Pb+Pb collisions at beam energies between 20 to 158 AGeV with the objective to cover the critical region of energy densities where the expected phase transition to a deconfined phase might occur in the early stage of the reactions. In this contribution the energy dependence of various hadronic observables is presented. These include m… ▽ More

Results on correlations and fluctuations from NA49
Abstract: The large acceptance and high momentum resolution as well as the significant particle identification capabilities of the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS allow for a broad study of fluctuations and correlations in hadronic interactions. In the first part recent results on event-by-event charge and p_t fluctuations are presented. Charge fluctuations in central Pb+Pb reactions are investigated at t… ▽ More

Prototype tests for the ALICE TRD
Abstract: A Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) has been designed to improve the electron identification and trigger capability of the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. We present results from tests of a prototype of the TRD concerning pion rejection for different methods of analysis over a momentum range from 0.7 to 2 GeV/c. We investigate the performance of different radiator… ▽ More
