Mixed multiquadratic splitting fields
Abstract: We study mixed multiquadratic field extensions as splitting fields for central simple algebras of exponent $2$ in characteristic $2$. As an application, we provide examples of nonexcellent mixed biquadratic field extensions.

Orthogonal involutions over fields with I^3=0
Abstract: We provide upper bounds on the u-invariant for skew-hermitian forms over a quaternion algebra with its canonical involution in terms of the u-invariant of the base field F of characteristic different from 2 when I^3F = 0.

Triality over fields with $I^3=0$
Abstract: We characterize isotropic trialitarian triples in terms of the Schur indices of the underlying algebras over a base field $F$ of arbitrary characteristic satisfying $I_q^3 F=0$. We also construct anisotropic trialitarian triples over such fields.

Symbol length in positive characteristic
Abstract: We show that any central simple algebra of exponent $p$ in prime characteristic $p$ that is split by a $p$-extension of degree $p^n$ is Brauer equivalent to a tensor product of $2\cdot p^{n-1}-1$ cyclic algebras of degree $p$. If $p=2$ and $n\geq3$, we improve this result by showing that such an algebra is Brauer equivalent to a tensor product of $5\cdot2^{n-3}-1$ quaternion algebras. Furthermore,… ▽ More

A bound on the index of exponent-$4$ algebras in terms of the $u$-invariant
Abstract: For a prime number $p$, an integer $e\geq 2$ and a field $F$ containing a primitive $p^e$-th root of unity, the index of central simple $F$-algebras of exponent $p^e$ is bounded in terms of the $p$-symbol length of $F$. For a nonreal field $F$ of characteristic different from $2$, the index of central simple algebras of exponent $4$ is bounded in terms of the $u$-invariant of $F$. Finally, a new c… ▽ More

Splitting quaternion algebras defined over a finite field extension
Abstract: We study systems of quadratic forms over fields and their isotropy over 2-extensions. We apply this to obtain particular splitting fields for quaternion algebras defined over a finite field extension. As a consequence, we obtain that every central simple algebra of degree 16 is split by a 2-extension of degree at most 2^{16}.
