Why are hydrodynamic theories applicable beyond the hydrodynamic regime?
Abstract: We present an alternative approach to deriving second-order non-conformal hydrodynamics from the relativistic Boltzmann equation. We demonstrate how constitutive relations for shear and bulk stresses can be transformed into dynamical evolution equations, resulting in Israel-Stewart-like (ISL) hydrodynamics. To understand the far-from-equilibrium applicability of such ISL theories, we investigate t… ▽ More

From moments of the distribution function to hydrodynamics: The non-conformal case
Abstract: We study the one-dimensional boost-invariant Boltzmann equation in the relaxation-time approximation using special moments of the distribution function for a system with a finite particle mass. The infinite hierarchy of moments can be truncated by kee** only the three lowest moments that correspond to the three independent components of the energy-momentum tensor. Collectivity in large and small systems formed in ultrarelativistic collisions
Abstract: Collective flow of the final-state hadrons observed in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions or even in smaller systems formed in high-multiplicity pp and p/d/$^3$He-nucleus collisions is one of the most important diagnostic tools to probe the initial state of the system and to shed light on the properties of the short-lived, strongly-interacting many-body state formed in these collisions. Primordial non-Gaussianity in heavy-ion collisions

Relating eccentricity fluctuations to density fluctuations in heavy-ion collisions
Abstract: The magnitude of anisotropic flow in a nucleus-nucleus collision is determined by the energy density field, $ρ(x,y,z)$, created right after the collision occurs. Specifically, elliptic flow, $v_2$, and triangular flow, $v_3$, are proportional to the anisotropy coefficients $\varepsilon_2$ and $\varepsilon_3$, which are functionals of $ρ$. We express the mean and the variance of $\varepsilon_2$ and… ▽ More

Relativistic viscous hydrodynamics for heavy-ion collisions: A comparison between the Chapman-Enskog and Grad methods

Using Drell-Yan Processes to Probe Nucleon and Meson Structure Functions
Abstract: We investigate how Drell-Yan processes can be used to measure the magnitude of flavor symmetry violation in the proton sea. We examine the utility of the following beams: protons, charged pions, and charged kaons. In each case we present an approximate expression for the Drell-Yan asymmetry. Using currently available parton distributions, we locate those kinematic regions which provide the great… ▽ More

New Source Term for QGP Formation in the Background-Field Model
Abstract: We consider pair production in a space-time-dependent background field and derive a source term, i.e., production rate in the one-particle phase space. Such a source term is required in Boltzmann-equation-based models of quark-gluon plasma formation and evolution. We compare the source term derived here with the one that has been used in the literature so far. Significant differences are observe… ▽ More

phi-Meson Mass Modification in Heavy-Ion Collisions
Abstract: We recently presented a method of analyzing invariant-mass spectra of kaon pairs resulting from decay of $φ$ mesons produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. It can be used to extract the shifts in the mass and the width ($ΔM$ and $ΔΓ$) of the $φ$ mesons when they are inside the dense matter formed in these collisions. We have now performed a Monte-Carlo simulation of this process. We illust… ▽ More

Apparent and Actual Shifts in Mass and Width of Phi Mesons Produced in Heavy-Ion Collisions
Abstract: We present a method of analyzing invariant-mass spectra of kaon pairs resulting from decay of $φ$ mesons produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. It can be used to extract the shifts in the mass and the width ($ΔM$ and $ΔΓ$) of the $φ$ mesons when they are inside the dense matter formed in these collisions. We illustrate our method with the help of available preliminary data. Extracted valu… ▽ More

Statistical Model for the Nucleon Structure Functions
Abstract: A phenomenological model for the nucleon structure functions is presented. Visualising the nucleon as a cavity filled with parton gas in equilibrium and parametrizing the effects due to the finiteness of the nucleon volume, we obtain a good fit to the data on the structure function $F_2^p$. The model then successfully predicts other unpolarized structure function data.

Parton Gas Model for the Nucleon Structure Functions
Abstract: A phenomenological model for the nucleon structure functions is presented. Visualising the nucleon as a cavity filled with parton gas in thermal equilibrium and parametrizing the effects due to the finiteness of the nucleon volume, we obtain a good fit to the data on the unpolarized nucleon structure functions.

Resonances in Small Fermi Systems
Abstract: The systematics of the size dependence of the resonant response of small metal particles and nuclei to incident electromagnetic radiation is studied. The known radius$^{-1}$ variation of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) in matrix-embedded metal particles is qualitatively accounted for by a quantum calculation of the response within a simple model. In free clusters, the behaviour is more compl… ▽ More

Haldane Exclusion Statistics and the Boltzmann Equation
Abstract: We generalize the collision term in the one-dimensional Boltzmann-Nordheim transport equation for quasiparticles that obey the Haldane exclusion statistics. For the equilibrium situation, this leads to the ``golden rule'' factor for quantum transitions. As an application of this, we calculate the density response function of a one-dimensional electron gas in a periodic potential, assuming that t… ▽ More

Collective Dipole Oscillations in Atomic Nuclei and Small Metal Particles
Abstract: (The systematics of photon absorption cross sections in nuclei and small metal particles are examined as a function of the number of constituent fermions $A$. It is pointed out that the shell-structure-linked oscillations in the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the photoneutron cross section in nuclei, earlier recognized for $A > 63$, in fact persist down to the lightest nuclei. Averaging ov… ▽ More
