Recent progress on the nonlocal power corrections to the inclusive penguin decays $\bar B \to X_s γ$ and $\bar B \to X_s \ell\ell$
Abstract: We report on recent progress in the field of nonlocal (so-called resolved) contributions to the inclusive penguin decays which presently belong to the largest uncertainties in these inclusive decay modes. There is still a very large scale and a large charm mass dependence in the present leading order results which can in the future be decreased by including the $α_s$ corrections.

Resolved $1/m_b$ contributions to $\bar B \to X_{s,d} \ell^+\ell^-$ and $\bar B \to X_s γ$
Abstract: In view of the importance of the nonperturbative resolved contributions for the overall uncertainties of the two inclusive penguin decays $\bar B \to X_s γ$ and $\bar B \to X_{s,d} \ell^+\ell^-$ we reanalyse these contributions using new estimates of moments of the subleading shape functions and of other input parameters. Within a systematic approach we find a significant reduction of the nonpertu… ▽ More

B-meson production in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme and LHC data
Abstract: We study inclusive $B$-meson production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC and compare experimental data with predictions of the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme at next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD. We find almost perfect agreement provided that the factorization scale parameters and the parton distribution functions are chosen appropriately.

Atmospheric Charm, QCD and Neutrino Astronomy
Abstract: We present predictions for the prompt-neutrino flux arising from the decay of charmed mesons and baryons produced by the interactions of high-energy cosmic rays in the Earth's atmosphere, making use of a QCD approach on the basis of the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme for the description of charm hadroproduction at next-to-leading order, complemented by a consistent set of fragmentation… ▽ More

Resolved Power Corrections to the Inclusive Decay $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+\ell^-$
Abstract: We identify the correct power counting of all the variables in the low-$q^2$ window of the inclusive decay $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+\ell^-$ within the effective theory SCET if a hadronic mass cut is imposed. Furthermore we analyse the resolved power corrections at the order $1/m_b$ in a systematic way. As a special feature, the resolved contributions stay nonlocal when the hadronic mass cut is releas… ▽ More

Subleading Power Factorization in $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+\ell^-$
Abstract: We analyze the factorization to subleading power in the flavor changing neutral current process $\bar B\to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$. In particular, we compute the so-called resolved contributions and explore the numerical impact on observables. In these contributions the virtual photon couples to light partons instead of connecting directly to the effective weak-interaction vertex. They represent an irr… ▽ More

Gauge invariant definition of the jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$
Abstract: We use the framework of Glauber extended Soft-Collinear Effective Theory to explicitly derive a gauge invariant expression of the jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$. The effective theory approach offers a systematic power counting scheme at the Lagrangian level and allows for a consistent treatment of the relevant scales in the problem. Employing this approach in a covariant gauge scenario lead to… ▽ More

Gauge invariant definition of the jet quenching parameter
Abstract: In the framework of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, the jet quenching parameter, $\hat{q}$, has been evaluated by adding the effect of Glauber gluon interactions to the propagation of a highly-energetic collinear parton in a medium. The result, which holds in covariant gauges, has been expressed in terms of the expectation value of two Wilson lines stretching along the direction of the four-momen… ▽ More

Long-Distance Dominance of the CP Asymmetry in B->X_{s,d}+gamma Decays
Abstract: We show that in the Standard Model the parametrically leading (by a factor 1/alpha_s) contribution to the inclusive CP asymmetry in B->X_{s,d}+gamma decays arises from a long-distance effect in the interference of the electromagnetic dipole amplitude with the amplitude for an up-quark penguin transition accompanied by soft gluon emission. This contribution is governed by a single hadronic paramete… ▽ More

Factorization at Subleading Power and Irreducible Uncertainties in $\bar B\to X_sγ$ Decay
Abstract: Using methods from soft-collinear and heavy-quark effective theory, a systematic factorization analysis is performed for the $\bar B\to X_sγ$ photon spectrum in the endpoint region $m_b-2E_γ={\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD})$. It is proposed that, to all orders in $1/m_b$, the spectrum obeys a novel factorization formula, which besides terms with the structure $H\,J\otimes S$ familiar from inclusive… ▽ More
