Torsional Alfvén waves in coronal plasma loops are usually considered to be non-collective, i.e. consist of cylindrical surfaces evolving independently, which significantly complicates their detection in observations. This non-collective nature, however, can get modified in the nonlinear regime. To address this question, the propagation of nonlinear torsional Alfvén waves in straight magnetic flux tubes has been investigated numerically using the astrophysical MHD code Athena++ and analytically, to support numerical results, using the perturbation theory up to the second order. Numerical results have revealed that there is radially uniform induced density perturbation whose uniformity does not depend on the radial structure of the mother Alfvén wave. Our analysis showed that the ponderomotive force leads to the induction of the radial and axial velocity perturbations, while the mechanism for the density perturbation is provided by a non-equal elasticity of a magnetic flux tube in the radial and axial directions. The latter can be qualitatively understood by the interplay between the Alfvén wave perturbations, external medium, and the flux tube boundary conditions. The amplitude of these nonlinearly induced density perturbations is found to be determined by the amplitude of the Alfvén driver squared and the plasma parameter $β$. The existence of the collective and radially uniform density perturbation accompanying nonlinear torsional Alfvén waves could be considered as an additional observational signature of Alfvén waves in the upper layers of the solar atmosphere.

Magnetoacoustic oscillations are nowadays routinely observed in various regions of the solar corona. This allows them to be used as means of diagnosing plasma parameters and processes occurring in it. Plasma diagnostics, in turn, requires a sufficiently reliable MHD model to describe the wave evolution. In our paper, we focus on obtaining the exact analytical solution to the problem of the linear evolution of standing slow magnetoacoustic (MA) waves in coronal loops. Our consideration of the properties of slow waves is conducted using the infinite magnetic field assumption. The main contribution to the wave dynamics in this assumption comes from such processes as thermal conduction, unspecified coronal heating, and optically thin radiation cooling. In our consideration, the wave periods are assumed to be short enough so that the thermal misbalance has a weak effect on them. Thus, the main non-adiabatic process affecting the wave dynamics remains thermal conduction. The exact solution of the evolutionary equation is obtained using the Fourier method. This means that it is possible to trace the evolution of any harmonic of the initial perturbation, regardless of whether it belongs to entropy or slow mode. We show that the fraction of energy between entropy and slow mode is defined by the thermal conduction and coronal loop parameters. It is shown for which parameters of coronal loops it is reasonable to associate the full solution with a slow wave, and when it is necessary to take into account the entropy wave. Furthermore, we obtain the relationships for the phase shifts of various plasma parameters applicable to any values of harmonic number and thermal condition coefficient. In particular, it is shown that the phase shifts between density and temperature perturbations for the second harmonic of the slow wave vary between $π/2$ to 0, but are larger than for the fundamental harmonic.

The aim of the present study is to shed light on the effects connected with thermal misbalance due to non-equal cooling and heating rates induced by density and temperature perturbations in solar active regions hosting either propagating torsional or shear Alfvén waves. A description for the nonlinear forces connected with Alfvén waves in non-ideal conditions is provided based on the second order thin flux tube approximation. This provides insight on the effects of Alfvén-induced motions on the boundary of thin magnetic structures in thermally active plasmas. The equations describing the process of generating longitudinal velocity perturbations together with density perturbations by nonlinear torsional Alfvén waves are obtained and solved analytically. It is shown that the phase shift (compared to the ideal case) and the amplitude of the induced longitudinal plasma motions against the period of mother Alfvén wave are greater for shear Alfvén waves compared to torsional Alfvén waves although following the same pattern. The difference in the influence of thermal misbalance on the induced velocity perturbations is governed by the plasma-beta although its effect is stronger for shear waves. It is deduced that for a harmonic Alfvén driver the induced density perturbations are left uninfluenced by the thermal misbalance.

Non-uniformity of the solar atmosphere along with the presence of non-adiabatic processes such as radiation cooling and unspecified heating can significantly affect the dynamics and properties of magnetoacoustic (MA) waves. To address the co-influence of these factors on the dispersion properties of MA waves, we considered a single magnetic slab composed of the thermally active plasma. Using the perturbation theory, we obtained a differential equation that determines the dynamics of the two-dimensional perturbations. Applying the assumption of strong magnetic structuring, we derived the dispersion relations for the sausage and kink MA modes. The numerical solution of the dispersion relations for the coronal conditions was performed to investigate the interplay between the non-uniformity and the thermal misbalance. For the heating scenario considered, it was obtained that the phase speed of both the sausage and kink slow MA waves is highly affected by the thermal misbalance in the long wavelength limit. The obtained characteristic timescales of the slow waves dissipation coincide with the periods of waves observed in the corona. Simultaneously, the phase speed of the fast waves is not affected by the thermal misbalance. The geometry of the magnetic structure still remains the main dispersion mechanism for the fast waves. Our estimation reveals that dissipation of the fast waves is weaker than dissipation of the slow waves in the coronal conditions. The obtained results are of importance for using the magnetoacoustic waves not only as a tool for estimating plasma parameters, but also as a tool for estimating the non-adiabatic processes.

Injection molding is one of the most popular manufacturing methods for the modeling of complex plastic objects. Faster numerical simulation of the technological process would allow for faster and cheaper design cycles of new products. In this work, we propose a baseline for a data processing pipeline that includes the extraction of data from Moldflow simulation projects and the prediction of the fill time and deflection distributions over 3-dimensional surfaces using machine learning models. We propose algorithms for engineering of features, including information of injector gates parameters that will mostly affect the time for plastic to reach the particular point of the form for fill time prediction, and geometrical features for deflection prediction. We propose and evaluate baseline machine learning models for fill time and deflection distribution prediction and provide baseline values of MSE and RMSE metrics. Finally, we measure the execution time of our solution and show that it significantly exceeds the time of simulation with Moldflow software: approximately 17 times and 14 times faster for mean and median total times respectively, comparing the times of all analysis stages for deflection prediction. Our solution has been implemented in a prototype web application that was approved by the management board of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Illogic SRL. As one of the promising applications of this surrogate modelling approach, we envision the use of trained models as a fast objective function in the task of optimization of technological parameters of the injection molding process (meaning optimal placement of gates), which could significantly aid engineers in this task, or even automate it.

Slow magnetoacoustic waves observed in the solar corona are used as seismological probes of plasma parameters. It has been shown that dispersion properties of such waves can vary significantly under the influence of the wave-induced thermal misbalance. In the current research, we study the effect of misbalance on waves inside the magnetic-flux tube under the second-order thin-flux-tube approximation. Using the parameters of active region fan coronal loops, we calculated wave properties such as the phase speed and decrement. It is shown that neglecting thermal misbalance may be the reason for the substantial divergence between seismological and spectrometric estimations of plasma parameters. We also show that the frequency dependence of phase speed is affected by two features, namely the geometric dispersion and the dispersion caused by the thermal misbalance. In contrast to the phase speed, the wave decrement primarily is affected by the thermal misbalance only. The dependencies of the phase speed and decrement of the slow wave on magnetic field and tube cross-section are also analyzed.

A very accurate, (HF)$_2$ potential energy surface (PES) due to Huang et al. (J. Chem. Phys., 150, 154302 (2019)) is used to calculate the energy levels of the HF dimer by solving the nuclear-motion Schrödinger equation using variational program WAVR4. Calculations on an extended range of rotational states show very good agreement with experimental data. In particular the known empirical rotational constants for the ground and some observed excited vibrational states are reproduced with an accuracy of about 50 MHz. This level of accuracy is shown to extend to higher excited inter-molecular vibrational states $v$ and higher excited rotational quantum numbers $(J,K_a)$. These calculations allow the assignment of 3 new $J$-branches in an HF dimer tunneling-rotation spectra recorded 30 years ago. These branches belong to excited $K_a$ = 4 state of the ground vibrational state, and $K_a$ = 0 states of excited inter-molecular vibrational states.

Compressional plasma perturbations may cause thermal misbalance between plasma heating and cooling processes. This misbalance significantly affects the dispersion properties of compressional waves providing a feedback between the perturbations and plasmas. It has been shown that Alfvén waves may induce longitudinal (compressional) plasma motions. In the present study, we analyze the effects of thermal misbalance caused by longitudinal plasma motions induced by shear Alfvén waves. We show that thermal misbalance leads to appearance of exponential bulk flows, which itself modifies the Alfvén induced plasma motions. In the case of sinusoidal Alfvén waves, we show how the amplitude and phase shift of induced longitudinal motions gain dependence on the Alfvén wave frequency while shedding light on its functionality. This feature has been investigated analytically in application to coronal conditions. We also consider the evolution of longitudinal plasma motions induced by the shear sinusoidal Alfvén wave by numerical methods before comparing the results obtained with our presented analytical predictions to justify the model under consideration in the present study.

For certain values of the parameter a large number of solitons in the system interfere with the $g$-function mechanism in the steepest descent to oscillatory Riemann-Hilbert problems. The obstruction prevents the Riemann-Hilbert analysis in a region in $(x,t)$ plane. We obtain the long time asymptotics of the boundary of the region (obstruction curve). As $t\to\infty$ the obstruction curve has a vertical asymptotes $x=\pm \ln 2$. The asymptotic analysis is supported with numerical results.

Together, they allow to achieve 1$%$ precision on the measurement of $\bar{g}$ with about 600 reconstructed and time tagged annihilations.

A model of spin relaxation in Kondo lattices is proposed to explain the presence of an electron spin resonance (ESR) signal in the heavy fermion compounds YbRh2Si2 and YbIr2Si2. Coupled equations for dynamical susceptibilities of Kondo ions and conduction electrons are derived by means of the functional derivative method. The perturbational scaling approach reveals the collective spin motion of Yb ions with conduction electrons in the bottleneck regime. A common energy scale due to the Kondo effect regulates the temperature dependence of the different kinetic coefficients and results in a mutual cancelation of all divergent parts in a collective spin mode. The angular dependence of the ESR linewidth is shown to be in a qualitative agreement with experimental data on YbRh2Si2 and YbIr2Si2. In this paper we describe a HepML format and a corresponding C++ library developed for kee** complete description of parton level events in a unified and flexible form. HepML tags contain enough information to understand what kind of physics the simulated events describe and how the events have been prepared. A HepML block can be included into event files in the LHEF format. The structure of the HepML block is described by means of several XML Schemas. The Schemas define necessary information for the HepML block and how this information should be located within the block. The library libhepml is a C++ library intended for parsing and serialization of HepML tags, and representing the HepML block in computer memory. The library is an API for external software. For example, Matrix Element Monte Carlo event generators can use the library for preparing and writing a header of a LHEF file in the form of HepML tags. In turn, Showering and Hadronization event generators can parse the HepML header and get the information in the form of C++ classes. libhepml can be used in C++, C, and Fortran programs. All necessary parts of HepML have been prepared and we present the project to the HEP community.

We present the field and temperature behavior of the narrow Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) response in YbRh2Si2 well below the single ion Kondo temperature. The ESR g factor reflects a Kondo-like field and temperature evolution of the Yb3+ magnetism. Measurements towards low temperatures (>0.5K) have shown distinct crossover anomalies of the ESR parameters upon approaching the regime of a well defined heavy Fermi liquid. Comparison with the field dependence of specific heat and electrical resistivity reveal that the ESR parameters can be related to quasiparticle mass and cross section and, hence, contain inherent heavy electron properties.

We develop a theoretical basis for understanding the spin relaxation processes in Kondo lattice systems with heavy fermions as experimentally observed by electron spin resonance (ESR). The Kondo effect leads to a common energy scale that regulates a logarithmic divergence of different spin kinetic coefficients and supports a collective spin motion of the Kondo ions with conduction electrons. We find that the relaxation rate of a collective spin mode is greatly reduced due to a mutual cancelation of all the divergent contributions even in the case of the strongly anisotropic Kondo interaction. The contribution to the ESR linewidth caused by the local magnetic field distribution is subject to motional narrowing supported by ferromagnetic correlations. The developed theoretical model successfully explains the ESR data of YbRh2Si2 in terms of their dependence on temperature and magnetic field.

On this basis we have calculated the magnetic susceptibility taking into account the Kondo interaction in the simplest molecular field approximation. The resulting Curie-Weiss law and Van Vleck susceptibilities could be excellently fitted to experimental results in a wide temperature interval where thermodynamic and transport properties show non-Fermi-liquid behaviour for these materials.

In this paper we report on LCG Monte Carlo Data Base (MCDB) and software which has been developed to operate MCDB. The main purpose of the LCG MCDB project is to provide a storage and documentation system for sophisticated event samples simulated for the LHC collaborations by experts. In many cases, the modern Monte Carlo simulation of physical processes requires expert knowledge in Monte Carlo generators or significant amount of CPU time to produce the events. MCDB is a knowledgebase mainly dedicated to accumulate simulated events of this type. The main motivation behind LCG MCDB is to make the sophisticated MC event samples available for various physical groups. All the data from MCDB is accessible in several convenient ways. LCG MCDB is being developed within the CERN LCG Application Area Simulation project.

This Report summarises the activities of the "SM and Higgs" working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 2-20 May, 2005. On the one hand, we performed a variety of experimental and theoretical studies on standard candles (such as W, Z, and ttbar production), treating them either as proper signals of known physics, or as backgrounds to unknown physics; we also addressed issues relevant to those non-perturbative or semi-perturbative ingredients, such as Parton Density Functions and Underlying Events, whose understanding will be crucial for a proper simulation of the actual events taking place in the detectors. On the other hand, several channels for the production of the Higgs, or involving the Higgs, have been considered in some detail. The report is structured into four main parts. The first one deals with Standard Model physics, except the Higgs. A variety of arguments are treated here, from full simulation of processes constituting a background to Higgs production, to studies of uncertainties due to PDFs and to extrapolations of models for underlying events, from small-$x$ issues to electroweak corrections which may play a role in vector boson physics. The second part of the report treats Higgs physics from the point of view of the signal. In the third part, reviews are presented on the current status of multi-leg, next-to-leading order and of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD computations. Finally, the fourth part deals with the use of Monte Carlos for simulation of LHC physics.

We have developed a high-efficiency pulsed slow positron beam for experiments with orthopositronium in vacuum. The new pulsing scheme is based on a double-gap coaxial buncher powered by an RF pulse of appropriate shape. The modulation of the positron velocity in the two gaps is used to adjust their time-of-flight to a target. This pulsing scheme allows to minimize non-linear aberrations in the bunching process and to efficiently compress positron pulses with an initial pulse duration ranging from 300 to 50 ns into bunches of 2.3 to 0.4 ns width, respectively, with a repetition period of 1 mks. The compression ratio achieved is ~100, which is a factor 5 better than has been previously obtained with slow positron beams based on a single buncher. Requirements on the degree, to which the moderated positrons should be mono-energetic and on the precision of the waveform generation are presented. Possible applications of the new pulsed positron beam for measurements of thin films are discussed.
