We study the form factor of the lowest component of the stress-tensor multiplet away from the origin of the moduli space in the spontaneously broken, aka Coulomb, phase of the maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory for decay into three massive W-bosons. The calculations are done at two-loop order by deriving and solving canonical differential equations in the asymptotical limit of nearly vanishing W-masses. We confirm our previous findings that infrared physics of `off-shell observables' is governed by the octagon anomalous dimension rather than the cusp. In addition, the form factor in question possesses a nontrivial remainder function, which was found to be identical to the massless case, upon a proper subtraction of infrared logarithms (and finite terms). However, the iterative structure of the object is more intricate and is not simply related to the previous orders in coupling as opposed to amplitudes/form factors at the origin of the moduli space.

Feynman integral reduction by means of integration-by-parts identities is a major power gadget in a theorist toolbox indispensable for calculation of multiloop quantum effects relevant for particle phenomenology and formal theory alike. An algorithmic approach consists of solving a large sparse non-square system of homogeneous linear equations with polynomial coefficients. While an analytical way of doing this is legitimate and was pursued for decades, it undoubtedly has its limitations when applied in complicated circumstances. Thus, a complementary framework based on modular arithmetic becomes critical on the way to conquer the current `what is possible' frontier. This calls for use of supercomputers to address the reduction problem. In order to properly utilize these computational resources, one has to efficiently optimize the technique for this purpose. Presently, we discuss and implement various methods which allow us to significantly improve performance of Feynman integral reduction within the FIRE environment.

Two-loop multi-leg form factors in off-shell kinematics require knowledge of planar and nonplanar double box Feynman diagrams with massless internal propagators. These are complicated functions of Mandelstam variables and external particle virtualities. The latter serve as regulators of infrared divergences, thus making these observables finite in four space-time dimensions. In this paper, we use the method of canonical differential equations for calculation of (non)planar double box integrals in the near mass-shell kinematical regime, i.e., where virtualities of external particles are much smaller than the Mandelstam variables involved. We deduce a basis of master integrals with uniform transcendental weight based on the analysis of leading singularities by means of the Baikov representation as well as an array of complementary techniques. We dub the former asymptotically canonical since it is valid in the near mass-shell limit of interest. We iteratively solve resulting differential equations up to weight four in terms of multiple polylogarithms.

We also observe that up to this order in 't Hooft coupling the logarithm of the Sudakov form factor is identical to twice the logarithm of the null octagon, which was introduced within the context of integrability-based computation of four point correlators with infinitely large R-charges. We address the problem of unambiguous reconstruction of rational functions of many variables. This is particularly relevant for recovery of exact expansion coefficients in integration-by-parts identites (IBPs) based on modular arithmetic. These IBPs are indispensable in modern approaches to evaluation of multiloop Feynman integrals by means of differential equations. Modular arithmetic is far more superior to algebraic implementations when one deals with high-multiplicity situations involving a large number of Lorentz invariants. We introduce a new method based on balanced relations which allows one to achieve the goal of a robust functional restoration with minimal data input. The technique is implemented as a Mathematica package Reconstruction.m in the FIRE6 environment and thus successfully demonstrates a proof of concept.

It is well-known that on-shell maximally helicity-violating gluon scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are dual to a bosonic Wilson loop on a null-polygonal contour. The light-like nature of the intervals is a reflection of the mass-shell condition for massless gluons involved in scattering. Presently, we introduce a Wilson loop prototype on a piecewise curvilinear contour that can be interpreted in the T-dual language to correspond to nonvanishing gluon off-shellness. We analyze it first for four sites at one loop and demonstrate that it coincides with the four-gluon amplitude on the Coulomb branch. Encouraged by this fact, we move on to the two-loop order. To simplify our considerations, we only focus on the Sudakov asymptotics of the Wilson loop, when the off-shellness goes to zero. The latter serves as a regulator of short-distance divergences around the perimeter of the loop, i.e., divergences when gluons are integrated over a small vicinity of the Wilson loop cusps. It does not however regulate conventional ultraviolet divergences of interior closed loops. This unavoidably introduces a renormalization scale dependence and thus scheme dependence into the problem. With a choice of the scale setting and a finite renormalization, we observe exponentiation of the double logarithmic scaling of the Wilson loop with the accompanying exponent being given by the so-called hexagon anomalous dimension, which recently made its debut in the origin limit of six-leg gluon amplitudes. This is contrary to the expectation for the octagon anomalous dimension to rather emerge from our analysis, suggesting that the current object encodes physics different from the Coulomb branch scattering amplitudes.

We develop a new technique for computing a class of four-point correlation functions of heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM theory which admit factorization into a product of two octagon form factors with an arbitrary bridge length. We show that the octagon can be expressed as the Fredholm determinant of the integrable Bessel operator and demonstrate that this representation is very efficient in finding the octagons both at weak and strong coupling. At weak coupling, in the limit when the four half-BPS operators become null separated in a sequential manner, the octagon obeys the Toda lattice equations and can be found in a closed form. At strong coupling, we exploit the strong Szego limit theorem to derive the leading asymptotic behavior of the octagon and, then, apply the method of differential equations to determine the remaining subleading terms of the strong coupling expansion to any order in the inverse coupling. To achieve this goal, we generalize results available in the literature for the asymptotic behavior of the determinant of the Bessel operator. As a byproduct of our analysis, we formulate a Szego-Akhiezer-Kac formula for the determinant of the Bessel operator with a Fisher-Hartwig singularity and develop a systematic approach to account for subleading power suppressed contributions.

We study a special class of four-point correlation functions of infinitely heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM which admit factorization into a product of two octagon form factors. We demonstrate that these functions satisfy a system of nonlinear integro-differential equations which are powerful enough to fully determine their dependence on the 't Hooft coupling and two cross ratios. At weak coupling, solution to these equations yields a known series representation of the octagon in terms of ladder integrals. At strong coupling, we develop a systematic expansion of the octagon in the inverse powers of the coupling constant and calculate accompanying expansion coefficients analytically. We examine the strong coupling expansion of the correlation function in various kinematical regions and observe a perfect agreement both with the expected asymptotic behavior dictated by the OPE and with results of numerical evaluation. We find that, surprisingly enough, the strong coupling expansion is Borel summable. Applying the Borel-Pade summation method, we show that the strong coupling expansion correctly describes the correlation function over a wide region of the 't Hooft coupling.

We consider the so-called simplest correlation function of four infinitely heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM in the limit when the operators are light-like separated in a sequential manner. We find a closed-form expression for the correlation function in this limit as a function of the 't Hooft coupling and residual cross ratios. Our analysis heavily relies on the factorization of the correlation function into the product of null octagons and on the recently established determinant representation for the latter. We show that the null octagon is given by a Fredholm determinant of a certain integral operator which has a striking similarity to those previously encountered in the study of two-point correlation functions in exactly solvable models at finite temperature and of level spacing distributions for random matrices. This allows us to compute the null octagon exactly by employing a method of differential equations.

However, so far its explicit implementations evaded a successful completion. The difficulty is intimately tied to the lack of the T-self-duality of the sigma model on the string side of the gauge/string correspondence. Unscathed by the last misfortune, we initiate with this study an application of the pentagon paradigm to scattering amplitudes of the theory. With the language being democratic and nondiscriminatory to whether one considers a Wilson loop expectation value or an amplitude, the success in the application of the program points towards a possible unified observable on the field theory side. Our present consideration is focused on two-loop perturbation theory in the planar limit, begging for higher loop data in order to bootstrap current analysis to all orders in the 't Hooft coupling.

Both MHV and non-MHV amplitudes are described in a uniform, systematic fashion within this framework, with the difference between the two encoded in coupling-dependent helicity form factors expressed via Zhukowski variables. The nontrivial SU(4) tensor structure of flux-tube transitions is coupling independent and is known for any number of charged excitations from solutions of a system of Watson and Mirror equations. This description allows one to resum the infinite series of form factors and recover the space-time S-matrix exactly in kinematical variables at a given order of perturbation series. Recently, this was done for the hexagon. Presently, we successfully perform resummation for the seven-leg tree NMHV amplitude. Twist fields were introduced a few decades ago as a quantum counterpart to classical kink configurations and disorder variables in low dimensional field theories. In recent years they received a new incarnation within the framework of geometric entropy and strong coupling limit of four-dimensional scattering amplitudes. In this paper, we study their two-point correlation functions in a free massless scalar theory, namely, twist--twist and twist--anti-twist correlators. In spite of the simplicity of the model in question, the properties of the latter are far from being trivial. The problem is reduced, within the formalism of the path integral, to the study of spectral determinants on surfaces with conical points, which are then computed exactly making use of the zeta function regularization. We also provide an insight into twist correlators for a massive complex scalar by means of the Lifshitz-Krein trace formula.

The near-collinear expansion of scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling is governed by the dynamics of stings propagating on the five sphere. The pentagon transitions in the operator product expansion which systematize the series get reformulated in terms of matrix elements of branch-point twist operators in the two-dimensional O(6) nonlinear sigma model. The facts that the latter is an asymptotically free field theory and that there exists no local realization of twist fields prevents one from explicit calculation of their scaling dimensions and operator product expansion coefficients. This complication is bypassed making use of the equivalence of the sigma model to the infinite-level limit of WZNW models perturbed by current-current interactions, such that one can use conformal symmetry and conformal perturbation theory for systematic calculations. Presently, to set up the formalism, we consider the O(3) sigma model which is reformulated as perturbed parafermions.

Their dynamics was unravelled in the past several years and culminated in a complete description of pentagons as an exact function of the 't Hooft coupling. In this paper we provide a solution for the last building block in this program, the SU(4) matrix structure arising from internal symmetry indices of scalars and fermions. This is achieved by a recursive solution of the Mirror and Watson equations obeyed by the so-called singlet pentagons and fixing the form of the twisted component in their tensor decomposition. The non-singlet, or charged, pentagons are deduced from these by a limiting procedure.

The Operator Product Expansion approach to scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric gauge theory operates in terms of pentagon transitions for excitations propagating on a color flux tube. These obey a set of axioms which allow one to determine them to all orders in 't Hooft coupling and confront against explicit calculations. One of the simplifying features of the formalism is the factorizability of multiparticle transitions in terms of single-particle ones. In this paper we extend an earlier consideration of a sector populated by one kind of excitations to the case of a system with fermionic as well as bosonic degrees of freedom to address the origin of the factorization. While the purely bosonic case was analyzed within an integrable noncompact open-spin chain model, the current case is solved in the framework of a supersymmetric sl(2|1) magnet. We find the eigenfunctions for the multiparticle system making use of the R-matrix approach. Constructing resulting pentagon transitions, we prove their factorized form. The discussion corresponds to leading order of perturbation theory.

We address the near-collinear expansion of NMHV six-particle scattering amplitudes at strong value of 't Hooft coupling in planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We complement recent studies of this observable within the context of the Pentagon Operator Product Expansion, via the dual superWilson loop description, by studying effects of multiple scalar exchanges that accompany (or not) massive flux-tube excitations. Due to the fact that holes have a very small, nonperturbatively generated mass which is exponentially suppressed in 't Hooft coupling, their exchanges must be resummed in the ultraviolet limit. This procedure yields a contribution to the expectation value of the superloop which enters on equal footing with the classical area, --- a phenomenon which was earlier observed for MHV amplitudes. In all components, the near-massless scalar exchanges factorize from the ones of massive particles, at leading order in strong coupling.

In this paper, we construct a systematic expansion for the main ingredients of the formalism, i.e., pentagons, at large 't Hooft coupling as a power series in its inverse value. The calculations are tested against relations provided by the so-called Descent Equation which mixes transitions at different perturbative orders. We use leading order results to have a first glimpse into the structure of scattering amplitude at NMHV level at strong coupling.

To properly address this problem, one requires to restore the cyclicity of the loop broken by the choice of OPE channels. In the course of the study, we unravel a phenomenon of twist enhancement when passing to a cyclically shifted channel. Currently, we focus on the consistency of the all-order Descent equation for the particular case relating the NMHV heptagon to MHV hexagon. We find that the equation establishes a relation between contributions of different twists and successfully verify it in perturbation theory making use of available bootstrap predictions for elementary pentagons.

We analyze the near-collinear limit of the null polygonal hexagon super Wilson loop in the planar N = 4 superYang-Mills theory. We focus on its Grassmann components which are dual to next-to-maximal helicity-violating (NMHV) scattering amplitudes. The kinematics in question is studied within a framework of the operator product expansion that encodes propagation of excitations on the background of the color flux tube stretched between the sides of Wilson loop contour. While their dispersion relation is known to all orders in 't Hooft coupling from previous studies, we find their form factor couplings to the Wilson loop. This is done making use of a particular tessellation of the loop where pentagon transitions play a fundamental role. Being interested in NMHV amplitudes, the corresponding building blocks carry a nontrivial charge under the SU(4) R-symmetry group. Restricting the current consideration to twist-two accuracy, we analyze two-particle contributions with a fermion as one of the constituents in the pair. We demonstrate that these nonsinglet pentagons obey bootstrap equations that possess consistent solutions for any value of the coupling constant. To confirm the correctness of these predictions, we calculate their contribution to the super Wilson loop demonstrating agreement with recent results to four-loop order in 't Hooft coupling.

In this paper we study the four-point correlation function of the energy-momentum supermultiplet in theories with N=4 superconformal symmetry in four dimensions. We present a compact form of all component correlators as an invariant of a particular abelian subalgebra of the N=4 superconformal algebra. This invariant is unique up to a single function of the conformal cross-ratios which is fixed by comparison with the correlation function of the lowest half-BPS scalar operators. Our analysis is independent of the dynamics of a specific theory, in particular it is valid in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory for any value of the coupling constant. We discuss in great detail a subclass of component correlators, which is a crucial ingredient for the recent study of charge-flow correlations in conformal field theories. We compute the latter explicitly and elucidate the origin of the interesting relations among different types of flow correlations previously observed in arXiv:1309.1424.

We present master formulas for the all-order event shapes as convolutions of the Mellin amplitude defining the correlation function of the half-BPS operators, with a coupling-independent kernel determined by the choice of the observable. We find remarkably simple relations between various event shapes following from N=4 superconformal symmetry. We perform thorough checks at leading order in the weak coupling expansion and show perfect agreement with the conventional calculations based on amplitude techniques. We extend our results to strong coupling using the correlation function of half-BPS operators obtained from the AdS/CFT correspondence.

We present a new approach to computing event shape distributions or, more precisely, charge flow correlations in a generic conformal field theory (CFT). These infrared finite observables are familiar from collider physics studies and describe the angular distribution of global charges in outgoing radiation created from the vacuum by some source. The charge flow correlations can be expressed in terms of Wightman correlation functions in a certain limit. We explain how to compute these quantities starting from their Euclidean analogues by means of a non-trivial analytic continuation which, in the framework of CFT, can elegantly be performed in Mellin space. The relation between the charge flow correlations and Euclidean correlation functions can be reformulated directly in configuration space, bypassing the Mellin representation, as a certain Lorentzian double discontinuity of the correlation function integrated along the cuts. We illustrate the general formalism in N=4 SYM, making use of the well-known results on the four-point correlation function of half-BPS scalar operators. We compute the double scalar flow correlation in N=4 SYM, at weak and strong coupling and show that it agrees with known results obtained by different techniques. One of the remarkable features of the N=4 theory is that the scalar and energy flow correlations are proportional to each other. Imposing natural physical conditions on the energy flow correlations (finiteness, positivity and regularity), we formulate additional constraints on the four-point correlation functions in N=4 SYM that should be valid at any coupling and away from the planar limit.

We address the question of interpolation of the virtual Compton scattering process off a polarized nucleon target between the deeply virtual regime for the initial-state photon and its near on-shell kinematics making use of the photon helicity-dependent Compton Form Factors (CFFs) as a main ingredient of the formalism. The five-fold differential cross section for the reaction with all possible polarization options for the lepton and nucleon spins is evaluated in terms of CFFs in the rest reference frame of the initial-state nucleon. We suggest a rather simple parametrization of the Compton hadronic tensor in terms of CFFs which are free from kinematical singularities and are directly related, at large photon virtualities, to Generalized Parton Distributions. We also provide a relation of our basis spanned by a minimal number of Dirac bilinears to the one introduced by Tarrach for the parametrization of the virtual Compton tensor and utilize the former to establish a set of equalities among our CFFs and Generalized Polarizabilities. As a complementary result, we express Compton scattering in the Born approximation in terms of CFFs as well.

We explore the duality between supersymmetric Wilson loop on null polygonal contours in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and next-to-maximal helicity violating (NMHV) scattering amplitudes. Earlier analyses demonstrated that the use of a dimensional regulator for ultraviolet divergences, induced due to presence of the cusps on the loop, yields anomalies that break both conformal symmetry and supersymmetry. At one-loop order, these are present only in Grassmann components localized in the vicinity of a single cusp and result in a universal function for any number of sites of the polygon that can be subtracted away in a systematic manner leaving a well-defined supersymmetric remainder dual to corresponding components of the superamplitude. The question remains though whether components which were free from the aforementioned supersymmetric anomaly at leading order of perturbation theory remain so once computed at higher orders. Presently we verify this fact by calculating a particular component of the null polygonal super Wilson loop at two loops restricting the contour kinematics to a two-dimensional subspace. This allows one to perform all computations in a concise analytical form and trace the pattern of cancellations between individual Feynman graphs in a transparent fashion. As a consequence of our consideration we obtain a dual conformally invariant result for the remainder function in agreement with one-loop NMHV amplitudes.

Classically supersymmetric Wilson loop on a null polygonal contour possesses all symmetries required to match it onto non-MHV amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. However, to define it quantum mechanically, one is forced to regularize it since perturbative loop diagrams are not well-defined due to presence of ultraviolet divergences stemming from integration in the vicinity of the cusps. A regularization that is adopted by practitioners by allowing one to use spinor helicity formalism, on the one hand, and systematically go to higher orders of perturbation theory is based on a version of dimensional regularization, known as Four-Dimensional Helicity scheme. Recently it was demonstrated that its use for the super Wilson loop at one loop breaks both conformal symmetry and Poincare supersymmetry. Presently, we exhibit the origin for these effects and demonstrate how one can undo this breaking. The phenomenon is alike the one emerging in renormalization group mixing of conformal operators in conformal theories when one uses dimensional regularization. The rotation matrix to the diagonal basis is found by means of computing the anomaly in the Ward identity for the conformal boost. Presently, we apply this ideology to the super Wilson loop. We compute the one-loop conformal anomaly for the super Wilson loop and find that the anomaly depends on its Grassmann coordinates. By subtracting this anomalous contribution from the super Wilson loop we restore its interpretation as a dual description for reduced non-MHV amplitudes which are expressed in terms of superconformal invariants.

Maximal helicity-violating scattering amplitudes in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are dual to Wilson loops on closed null polygons. We perform their operator product expansion analysis in two-dimensional kinematics in the soft-collinear approximation which corresponds to the case when some light-cone distances vanish. We construct the expansion in terms of multi-particle "heavy"-light operators, where the "heavy" fields are identified with the Wilson lines defining the OPE channel and the light fields emerge from the curvature of the contour. The correlation function of these define the remainder function. We study the dilatation operator for these operators at one loop order and find that it corresponds to a non-compact open spin chain. This provides an alternative view on elementary excitations propagating on the GKP string at weak coupling, which now correspond to particles traveling along an open spin chain. The factorized structure of the Wilson loop in the soft limit allows one to represent the two-loop correction to the octagon Wilson loop as a convolution formula and find the corresponding remainder function.

We investigate finite-size corrections to anomalous dimensions of large-spin twist-two operators in the planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We develop a framework for analysis of these corrections, that is complementary to the conventional spin-chain approach, by making use of the hole rather than the magnon picture. From the dual string theory perspective where the large-spin operator is identified with the Gubser-Klebanov-Polyakov (GKP) string, our approach is equivalent to constructing the first Luescher correction to the energy of the GKP string by incorporating the contribution of virtual excitations propagating on it. It allows us to propose a formula that controls a particular class of large-spin corrections to the twist-two anomalous dimension and holds at any value of the coupling constant. Compared to wrap** corrections computed with magnons propagating on the spin chain, the finite-size corrections that are encoded in our formalism start at a lower loop level. Our formalism thus calls for modification of the asymptotic contributions which are conventionally incorporated within the Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz. An educated guess allows us to remedy this pitfall and successfully confront our predictions with known results up to five loop accuracy at weak coupling. Finally, our formula sheds light on the weak-to-strong coupling transition for the subleading large-spin corrections under study and confirms stringy expectations at strong coupling where they are found to be identical to the first Luescher correction to the vacuum energy of the O(6) sigma model.

The MHV scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM are dual to bosonic light-like Wilson loops. We explore various proposals for extending this duality to generic non-MHV amplitudes. The corresponding dual object should have the same symmetries as the scattering amplitudes and be invariant to all loops under the chiral half of the N=4 superconformal symmetry. We analyze the recently introduced supersymmetric extensions of the light-like Wilson loop (formulated in Minkowski space-time) and demonstrate that they have the required symmetry properties at the classical level only, up to terms proportional to field equations of motion. At the quantum level, due to the specific light-cone singularities of the Wilson loop, the equations of motion produce a nontrivial finite contribution which breaks some of the classical symmetries. As a result, the quantum corrections violate the chiral supersymmetry already at one loop, thus invalidating the conjectured duality between Wilson loops and non-MHV scattering amplitudes. We compute the corresponding anomaly to one loop and solve the supersymmetric Ward identity to find the complete expression for the rectangular Wilson loop at leading order in the coupling constant. We also demonstrate that this result is consistent with conformal Ward identities by independently evaluating corresponding one-loop conformal anomaly.

These considerations yield compact results which allow analytical calculations of multiloop anomalous dimensions bypassing the use of the principle of maximal transcendentality. As an application of our method we analytically confirm the known four-loop result. We also determine the dressing part of the five-loop anomalous dimensions.

The Baxter-like functional equation encoding the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of Wilson operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory available to date ceases to work just before the onset of wrap** corrections. In this paper, we work out an improved finite-difference equation by incorporating nonpolynomial effects in the transfer matrix entering as its ingredient. This yields a self-consistent asymptotic finite-difference equation valid at any order of perturbation theory. Its exact solutions for fixed spins and twists at and beyond wrap** order give results coinciding with the ones obtained from the asymptotic Bethe Ansatz. Correcting the asymptotic energy eigenvalues by the Luescher term, we compute anomalous dimensions for a number of short operators beyond wrap** order.

Abstract:
We calculate the differential cross section for real photon electroproduction off spinless hadron which sevres as a main probe of the hadrons structure via the concept of generalized parton distributions. Compared to previously available computations performed with twist-three power accuracy, we exactly accounted for all kinematical effects in hadron mass and momentum transfer which arise from l…

We calculate the differential cross section for real photon electroproduction off spinless hadron which sevres as a main probe of the hadrons structure via the concept of generalized parton distributions. Compared to previously available computations performed with twist-three power accuracy, we exactly accounted for all kinematical effects in hadron mass and momentum transfer which arise from leptonic helicity amplitudes. We performed numerical studies of these kinematical effects and demonstrated that in the valence quark region and rather low virtualities of the hard photon which sets the factorization scale, the available approximate results significantly overestimate the cross section rates in comparison to exact formulas.

Abstract:
Anomalous dimensions of high-twist Wilson operators in generic gauge theories occupy a band of width growing logarithmically with their conformal spin. We perform a systematic study of its fine structure in the autonomous SL(2) subsector of the dilatation operator of planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory which is believed to be integrable to all orders in 't Hooft coupling. We resort in our study on the framework of the Baxter equation to unravel the properties of the ground state trajectory and the excited trajectories in the spectrum. We use two complimentary approaches in our analysis based on the asymptotic solution of the Baxter equation and on the semiclassical expansion to work out the leading asymptotic expression for the trajectories in the upper and lower part of the band and to find how they are modified by the perturbative corrections.
