Luttinger liquid tensor network: sine versus tangent dispersion of massless Dirac fermions
Abstract: To apply the powerful many-body techniques of tensor networks to massless Dirac fermions one wants to discretize the $p\cdotσ$ Hamiltonian and construct a matrix-product-operator (MPO) representation. We compare two alternative discretization schemes, one with a sine dispersion, the other with a tangent dispersion, applied to a one-dimensional Luttinger liquid with Hubbard interaction. Josephson effect in a junction coupled to an electron reservoir
Abstract: We extend the scattering theory of the Josephson effect to include a coupling of the Josephson junction to a gapless electron reservoir in the normal state. By opening up the system with a quasiparticle escape rate $1/τ$, the supercurrent carried at zero temperature by an Andreev level at energy $\varepsilon_{\rm A}$ is reduced by a factor $(2/π)\arctan(2\varepsilon_{\rm A}τ/\hbar)$ . Repulsive Casimir force from a Majorana zero-mode
Abstract: Fu and Kane have taught us that a Majorana zero-mode appears on the quantum spin Hall edge at the interface with a superconductor. If a magnetic scatterer is placed on the edge, the zero-point energy of massless edge excitations exerts a force on the scatterer. This is the fermionic analogue of the electromagnetic Casimir effect. We show that the Majorana zero-mode produces a repulsive Casimir for… ▽ More

Topologically protected Casimir effect for lattice fermions

Superconductivity provides access to the chiral magnetic effect of an unpaired Weyl cone
Abstract: The massless fermions of a Weyl semimetal come in two species of opposite chirality, in two cones of the band structure. As a consequence, the current $j$ induced in one Weyl cone by a magnetic field $B$ (the chiral magnetic effect, CME) is cancelled in equilibrium by an opposite current in the other cone. Here we show that superconductivity offers a way to avoid this cancellation, by means of a f… ▽ More

Weyl-Majorana solenoid
Abstract: A Weyl semimetal wire with an axial magnetization has metallic surface states (Fermi arcs) winding along its perimeter, connecting bulk Weyl cones of opposite topological charge (Berry curvature). We investigate what happens to this "Weyl solenoid" if the wire is covered with a superconductor, by determining the dispersion relation of the surface modes propagating along the wire. Coupling to the s… ▽ More

Wiedemann-Franz-type relation between shot noise and thermal conduction of Majorana surface states in a three-dimensional topological superconductor
Abstract: We compare the thermal conductance $G_{\rm thermal}$ (at temperature $T$) and the electrical shot noise power $P_{\rm shot}$ (at bias voltage $V\gg k_{\rm B}T/e$) of Majorana fermions on the two-dimensional surface of a three-dimensional topological superconductor. We present analytical and numerical calculations to demonstrate that, for a local coupling between the superconductor and metal contac… ▽ More

A road to reality with topological superconductors
Abstract: Topological states of matter are a source of low-energy quasiparticles, bound to a defect or propagating along the surface. In a superconductor these are Majorana fermions, described by a real rather than a complex wave function. The absence of complex phase factors promises protection against decoherence in quantum computations based on topological superconductivity. This is a tutorial style intr… ▽ More

Two-dimensional Josephson vortex lattice and anomalously slow decay of the Fraunhofer oscillations in a ballistic SNS junction with a warped Fermi surface
Abstract: $ $The critical current of a Josephson junction is an oscillatory function of the enclosed magnetic flux $Φ$, because of quantum interference modulated with periodicity $h/2e$. We calculate these Fraunhofer oscillations in a two-dimensional (2D) ballistic superconductor--normal-metal--superconductor (SNS) junction. For a Fermi circle the amplitude of the oscillations decays as $1/Φ… ▽ More
