Motivated by the long-standing discrepancy in lepton flavor universality ratios $R_D$ and $R_{D^{\ast}}$ we assess the status of scalar leptoquark states $R_2$, $\widetilde R_2$ and $S_1$ which can in principle provide a desired enhancement of $\mathcal{B}(B\to D^{(\ast )}τν)$ in a minimal setup with two Yukawa couplings only. We consider unavoidable low-energy constraints, $Z$-pole measurements as well as high-$p_T$ constraints. After setting mass of each leptoquark to $1.5$ TeV we find that of all considered states only $S_1$ leptoquark, coupled to both chiralities of leptons and quarks, is still a completely viable solution while the scenario with $R_2$ is in growing tension with $Γ(Z \to ττ)$ and with the LHC constraints on the di-tau tails at high-$p_T$. We comment on the future experimental tests of $S_1$ scenario.

The normalization of the leading-twist photon distribution amplitude (DA), $f_γ^{\perp}$, is an important ingredient in the study of exclusive processes involving the photon emission by means of QCD sum-rules. In this paper we determine the up- , down- and strange-quark contribution to $f_γ^{\perp}$ by exploiting its relation to the zero-momentum two-point correlation function of the electromagnetic current $J_{\rm em}^μ$ and the electric component of the tensor current $T^{μν}$. To that end we employ the gauge ensembles obtained by using $N_{f}=2+1+1$ Wilson-Clover twisted-mass quark flavors, generated by the Extended Twisted Mass (ETM) Collaboration, and after adding all sources of systematic uncertainties, we obtain a total error of $1.5\%$ and $3.5\%$, respectively, for the light- ($u$ and $d$) and strange-quark contribution to $f_γ^{\perp}(2~{\rm GeV})$ in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme, thus improving their accuracy by a factor of $2.3$ and $2.8$, respectively. For the strange-quark contribution $f_{γ,s}^{\perp}(2~{\rm GeV})$, we observe a discrepancy with respect to previous lattice calculations. By combining our result with the world average lattice value of the chiral condensate, we obtain for the susceptibility of the quark condensate $χ_d^{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}} (2\, {\rm GeV}) \simeq χ_u^{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}} (2\, {\rm GeV}) =2.17(12)~{\rm GeV^{-2}}$.

We point out the important correlation with $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{\ast} ν\barν)$ so that the measurement of that decay mode could help restraining the possible options for building the model of New Physics. We then try to interpret this new experimental result in terms of physics beyond the Standard Model by using SMEFT and find that a scenario with coupling only to $τ$ can accommodate the current experimental constraints but fails in getting a desired $R_{D^{(\ast )}}^\mathrm{exp}/R_{D^{(\ast )}}^\mathrm{SM}$, unless one turns the other SMEFT operators that are not related to $b\to s\ell\ell$ or/and $b\to sνν$.

In this letter we revisit the Standard Model predictions for $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{(\ast)}ν\barν)$ and discuss the opportunities that open up when combining its partial decay rate with that of $B\to K^{(\ast)}\ell\ell$. In the Standard Model a suitable ratio of these two modes can be used to extract $C_9^\mathrm{eff}$, which is essential for a reliable phenomenological analysis of the $B\to K^{(\ast)}\ell\ell$ angular observables. The same ratio also proves to be more sensitive to the presence of New Physics in many plausible extensions of the Standard Model. We also suggest that the separate measurement of $\mathcal{B}(B\to Kν\barν)$ for high and for low $q^2$'s can be helpful for testing the assumed shape of the vector form factor, because the lattice QCD data are obtained at high $q^2$'s, whereas the low $q^2$ region is obtained through an extrapolation.

We update the analysis of its parameter space and show that a model remains viable and consistent with a number of low energy and high energy flavor physics constraints. Since the model predicts a non-zero New Physics phase, we discuss the possibility to test its contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment and to the angular distributions of the exclusive $b\to cτ\bar ν$ decays. We find that the model can provide a significant enhancement to $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{(\ast)}νν)$ and provides both the upper and lower bounds to $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{(\ast)}μτ)$.

To do so we combine the most recent low energy flavor physics constraints, including $R_{K^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}$, and combine them with the bounds on the leptoquark masses and their couplings to quarks and leptons as inferred from the direct searches at the LHC and the studies of the large $p_T$ tails of the $pp\to \ell\ell$ differential cross section. We find that none of the scalar leptoquarks of $m_\mathrm{LQ} \simeq 1÷2$ TeV can accommodate the $B$-anomalies alone. Only the vector leptoquark, known as $U_1$, can provide a viable solution which, in the minimal setup, provides an interesting prediction, i.e. a lower bound to the lepton flavor violating $b\to sμ^\pmτ^\mp$ decay modes, such as $\mathcal{B}(B\to Kμτ) \gtrsim 0.7\times 10^{-7}$.

A presence of the weak CP-violating phase can then be tested by measuring the CP-asymmetry, $\mathcal{A}_\mathrm{CP}$. We show that this asymmetry is enhanced around the peak of each $c\bar c$-resonance, and in fact more pronounced in the close vicinity of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$. Therefore, measuring $\mathcal{A}_\mathrm{CP}$ before and after the resonances' peak could be revelatory of the CP-violation that originates from beyond the Standard Model, or to be a significant constrain when building a realistic scenario of New Physics.

Motivated by the calculation of observables in the decays $Λ_b \to Λ_c\left({1 \over 2}^\pm \right) \ell \overlineν$, as tests of Lepton Flavor Universality, we present a calculation of form factors in the quark model. Our scheme combines a spectroscopic model, providing the internal wave functions, and the Bakamjian-Thomas relativistic formalism to deduce the wave functions in motion and current matrix elements, that amount in the heavy quark limit to the Isgur-Wise (IW) function. For baryons we meet difficulties using standard spectroscopic models, leading us to propose a simple phenomenological model : a Q-pointlike-diquark model, non-relativistic with harmonic oscillator forces, with a reasonable low-lying spectrum and good slope of the IW function. We extract this slope from Lattice data and find $ρ_Λ^2 \sim 2$. We are not able to reproduce the right $ρ_Λ^2$ when using standard linear + Coulomb potential models, both with three quarks $Qqq$ or in a Q-pointlike-diquark picture. These difficulties seem to derive from the high sensitivity of $ρ_Λ^2$ to the structure of the light quark subsystem. After fixing the parameters of our interim model to yield correct spectrum and $ρ_Λ^2$, we compute observables. Bjorken sum rule shows that the inelastic IW function is large, and therefore $Λ_b \to Λ_c \left({1 \over 2}^-, {3 \over 2}^- \right) \ell \overlineν$ could be studied at LHCb. Some observables in the $τ$ case present zeroes for specific values of $q^2$ that could be tests of the Standard Model.

We use the general Falk interpretation of Isgur-Wise functions as overlaps of light parton states in motion. Then, in BT, for small collinear velocities, the motion of these states is described by a very simple dimensionless differential operator O acting on the internal wave functions of the light quarks, which is a relativistic generalisation of the dipole operator times the quark mass : it appears as the generator of Lorentz transformations for N free light particles.

We discuss the possibility of using the observables deduced from the angular distribution of the $B\to D^{(\ast)} \ell\barν$ decays to test the effects of lepton flavor universality violation (LFUV). We show that the measurement of even a subset of these observables could be very helpful in distinguishing the Lorentz structure of the New Physics contributions to these decays. To do so we use the low energy effective theory in which besides the Standard Model contribution we add all possible Lorentz structures with the couplings (Wilson coefficients) that are determined by matching theory with the measured ratios $R{(D^{(\ast)})}^\mathrm{exp}$. We argue that even in the situation in which the measured $R{(D^{(\ast)})}^\mathrm{exp}$ becomes fully compatible with the Standard Model, one can still have significant New Physics contributions the size of which could be probed by measuring the observables discussed in this paper and comparing them with their Standard Model predictions.

More specifically, we report on the determination of the light-quark masses, the form factor $f_+(0)$ arising in the semileptonic $K \to π$ transition at zero momentum transfer, as well as the decay constant ratio $f_K/f_π$ and its consequences for the CKM matrix elements $V_{us}$ and $V_{ud}$. Furthermore, we describe the results obtained on the lattice for some of the low-energy constants of $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ and $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ Chiral Perturbation Theory. We review the determination of the $B_K$ parameter of neutral kaon mixing as well as the additional four $B$ parameters that arise in theories of physics beyond the Standard Model. For the heavy-quark sector, we provide results for $m_c$ and $m_b$ as well as those for $D$- and $B$-meson decay constants, form factors, and mixing parameters. These are the heavy-quark quantities most relevant for the determination of CKM matrix elements and the global CKM unitarity-triangle fit. We review the status of lattice determinations of the strong coupling constant $α_s$. We show that the terms we include can be numerically quite significant. They amount to about $20\%$ for scalar LQ masses below $1.5$~TeV, as currently allowed by the direct searches at the LHC. To further illustrate the relevance of our results we revisit a model with two light scalar LQs, proposed to accommodate the $B$-physics anomalies. The only single leptoquark scenario which can provide a viable solution for $m_\mathrm{LQ} \simeq 1÷2$ TeV is a vector leptoquark, known as $U_1$, which we re-examine in its minimal form (letting only left-handed couplings to have non-zero values). We find that the limits deduced from direct searches are complementary to the low-energy physics constraints. In particular, we find a rather stable lower bound on the lepton flavor violating $b\to s\ell_1^\pm\ell_2^\mp$ modes, such as $\mathcal{B}(B\to Kμτ)$. Improving the experimental upper bound on $\mathcal{B}(B\to Kμτ)$ by two orders of magnitude could compromise the viability of the minimal $U_1$ model as well.

The proposed scenario has a UV completion, can accommodate all measured lepton flavor universality ratios in $B$-meson decays, is consistent with related flavor observables, and is compatible with direct searches at the LHC. We provide prospects for future discoveries of the two light leptoquarks at the LHC and predict several yet-to-be-measured flavor observables.

We investigate the sensitivity of IceCube(-Gen2) to a scalar leptoquark scenario with couplings only to heavy quark flavors which may be connected to solving discrepancies in $B$-meson semileptonic decays. We take into account, for the first time, the non-negligible neutrino-gluon cross section induced by leptoquarks, and we systematically account for indirect and direct constraints which have been overlooked in previous studies. We conclude that IceCube(-Gen2) can only probe the light LQ regime, already disfavored by the combination of flavor physics constraints, electroweak precision data and the direct searches at the LHC.

Motivated by the claimed possibility of a large contribution of the first radial excitation of the $D^{(\ast )}$ to the $B$ semileptonic decay into charmed mesons, also invoked to solve the "$1/2$ vs. $3/2$ semileptonic puzzle", we discuss the transitions to heavy-light radial excitations by a heavy $b \to c$ quark current. We first consider a HQET sum rule, which provides a bound on the slopes of Isgur-Wise functions which we then calculate in the Bakamjian-Thomas framework which both guaranties covariance in the heavy quark limit and satisfies a set of HQET sum rules. We observe a remarkable property that for a large variety of wave functions the transition to the first radial excitation is very small while the transition matrix element to the second radial excitation is large and dominant in saturating the HQET sum rule. This is opposite to what is found in non-relativistic models, where the transition to the first radial excitation dominates the sum rule. The relative magnitude of the transition to the second excitation appears to be weakly dependent on the dynamical scale (radius of the bound states), and the same holds true for the slope of the elastic transition. These features could be tested in the heavy mass limit of lattice QCD. This pattern is shown to be related to the general structure of the Bakamjian-Thomas model, it is independent of the spin structure of the approach and derives mainly from the Lorentz transformation of the spatial wave function, a feature often disregarded in quark models.

Semileptonic transitions $\overline{B} \to D^{(n)} \ell \overlineν$, where $D^{(n)} (n \not = 0)$ is a radially excited meson, have recently attracted much attention as a way to understand some puzzles between theory and data. Following closely the formalism of Falk and Neubert for the elastic case, we study the $1/m_Q$ corrections to the heavy quark limit, in which the inelastic Isgur-Wise function vanishes at zero recoil, $ξ^{(n)}(1) = 0\ (n \not = 0)$. We find simple formulas that involve the derivative $ξ^{(n)'}(1)$, and we propose a number of ways of isolating this quantity in practice. We formulate also a generalization to the inelastic case of Luke's theorem. On the other hand, although some $1/m_Q$ HQET results are satisfied in the Bakamjian-Thomas relativistic quark model, we emphasize the problems concerning these corrections in this scheme.

The decays $h\to P\ell^+\ell^-$ could therefore provide an efficient channel to investigate the presence of a light CP-odd Higgs $A$ and help to disentangle among various 2HDM scenarios.

We discuss weak kaon decays in a scenario in which the Standard Model is extended by massive sterile fermions. After revisiting the analytical expressions for leptonic and semileptonic decays we derive the expressions for decay rates with two neutrinos in the final state. By using a simple effective model with only one sterile neutrino, compatible with all current experimental bounds and general theoretical constraints, we conduct a thorough numerical analysis which reveals that the impact of the presence of massive sterile neutrinos on kaon weak decays is very small, less than $1\%$ on decay rates. The only exception is $\mathcal{B} (K_L\to νν)$, which can go up to $\mathcal{O}( 10^{-10})$, thus possibly within the reach of the KOTO experiment. In other words, if all the future measurements of weak kaon decays turn out to be compatible with the Standard Model predictions, this would not rule out the existence of massive light sterile neutrinos with non-negligible active-sterile mixing. Instead, for a sterile neutrino of mass below $m_K$, one might obtain a huge enhancement of $\mathcal{B} (K_L\to νν)$, otherwise negligibly small in the Standard Model.

We show that two such scenarios are phenomenologically plausible, namely the one with a doublet of scalar leptoquarks of hypercharge $1/6$, and the one with a triplet of vector leptoquarks of hypercharge $2/3$. We also argue that a model with a singlet scalar leptoquark of hypercharge $1/3$ is not viable. Using the present experimental data as constraints, it is shown that the exclusive lepton flavor violating decays, $\mathcal{B}(B_s\to μτ)$, $\mathcal{B}(B\to K μτ)$ and $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^\ast μτ)$, can be as large as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-5})$.

We review lattice results related to pion, kaon, D- and B-meson physics with the aim of making them easily accessible to the particle physics community. More specifically, we report on the determination of the light-quark masses, the form factor f+(0), arising in the semileptonic K -> pi transition at zero momentum transfer, as well as the decay constant ratio fK/fpi and its consequences for the CKM matrix elements Vus and Vud. Furthermore, we describe the results obtained on the lattice for some of the low-energy constants of SU(2)LxSU(2)R and SU(3)LxSU(3)R Chiral Perturbation Theory. We review the determination of the BK parameter of neutral kaon mixing as well as the additional four B parameters that arise in theories of physics beyond the Standard Model. The latter quantities are an addition compared to the previous review. For the heavy-quark sector, we provide results for mc and mb (also new compared to the previous review), as well as those for D- and B-meson decay constants, form factors, and mixing parameters. These are the heavy-quark quantities most relevant for the determination of CKM matrix elements and the global CKM unitarity-triangle fit. Finally, we review the status of lattice determinations of the strong coupling constant alpha_s.

We derive the expressions for the full angular distributions of $\bar B\to D\ell\bar ν_\ell$ and $\bar B\to D^{\ast }\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays and discuss the spectra on each angle separately. The coefficient functions, depending on helicity amplitudes, can then be combined in an ensemble of observables which can then be used to check for the presence of New Physics. We examine the sensitivity of each of these observables on the presence of non-Standard Model interaction terms at low energies. The expressions presented here are general and can be used for studying any other semileptonic pseudoscalar to pseudoscalar/vector meson decay. We also examine the problem of pollution of the $\bar B\to D^{\ast}(\to Dπ)_S\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decay sample by the $\bar B\to D_0^{\ast}(\to Dπ)\ell\bar ν_\ell$ events, and point out that a measurement of two particular quantities could clarify whether or not the $(Dπ)_{S-\rm wave}$ in the vicinity of $D^\ast$-peak is (approximately) described by the Breit-Wigner formula.

Concerning the relevant Wilson coefficients we evaluate them in two different scenarios: (i) The (pseudo-)scalar coefficients are obtained using the (pseudo-)scalar coupling extracted from the experimental non-zero value of ${\cal B}(h\to μτ)$, (ii) Revisiting a $Z^\prime$-model in which the flavor changing neutral couplings are allowed. A specific realization of this scenario is the one with a scalar leptoquark state $Δ$, in which $C_{10}^\prime$ is related to the mass of $Δ$ and its Yukawa couplings. We then show that this scenario does not make any significant impact on $B_s-\overline B_s$ mixing amplitude nor to $ {\cal B}(B\to Kν\bar ν)$. Instead, it can modify $R_{K^\ast}= {\cal B}(B\to K^\ast μμ)/ {\cal B}(B\to K^\ast ee)_{[1,6]\,\mathrm{GeV}^2}$, which will soon be experimentally measured and we find it to be $R_{K^\ast}= 1.11(8)$, while $R_{K^\ast}/R_K= 1.27(19)$. After improving the knowledge about residua of the semileptonic form factor at its first two poles we show that $f_+^{Dπ}(q^2)$ is not saturated when compared with the experimental data. To fill the difference we approximate the rest of discontinuity by an effective pole and show that the data can be described very well with the position of the effective pole larger than the next excitation in the spectrum of $D^\ast$ state. The results of fits with experimental data also suggest the validity of superconvergence which in the pole models translates to a vanishing of the sum of residua of the form factor at all poles. A similar discussion in the case of $B\to π\ellν_\ell$ leads to the possibility of extracting $\vert V_{ub}\vert$, the error of which appears to be dominated by $g_{B^\ast Bπ}$, which can be nowadays computed on the lattice. In evaluating the residua of the form factors at their nearest pole we needed the vector meson decay constants $f_{D^\ast}$ and $f_{B^\ast}$, which we computed by using the numerical simulations of QCD on the lattice with $N_{\rm f}=2$ dynamical quarks. We obtain, $f_{D^\ast}/f_D=1.208(27)$ and $f_{B^\ast}/f_B=1.051(17)$.

We have estimated by lattice QCD the $D'$ decay constant $f_{D'}$ that parameterizes the $D'$ emission contribution to the Class-III non leptonic decay $B^- \to D^0 π^-$. In addition, we provide a new estimate of the decay constants $f_{D_{s,q}}$ which read $f_{D_{s}}=252(3)$ MeV and $f_{D_{s}}/f_{D}=1.23(1)(1)$.

Abstract:
We study the hadronic matrix elements describing the $B_s \to D_s\ell \barν_\ell$ decay in and beyond the Standard Model. By using the twisted mass QCD on the lattice with $N_f=2$ dynamical flavors we compute the normalization $\mathscr G_s(1)$ of the form factor dominating $B_s\to D_s \ell \barν_\ell$ in the SM. We also make the first lattice determination of $F_0(q^2)/F_+(q^2)$ and…

From our study with Nf=2 dynamical light quarks, and by employing the maximally twisted Wilson quark action, we obtain in the continuum limit G(1) = 1.052(46). We also compute the scalar and tensor form factors in the region near zero recoil and find f0(t0)/f+(t0)=0.77(2), fT(t0,mb)/f+(t0)=1.08(7), for t0=11.5 GeV^2. These latter results are useful for searching the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model in Bs --> Ds l nu decays. Our results for the similar form factors relevant to the non-strange case indicate that the method employed here can be used to achieve the precision determination of the B --> D l nu decay amplitude as well.

Abstract:
Recent experimental results for the ratio of the branching fractions of $\bar B \to D^{(*)}τν_τ$ and $B\to D^{(*)} μν_μ$ decays came as a surprise and lead to a discussion of possibility to constraining new physics through these modes. Here we focus on $Br(B \to D τ\barν_τ)/Br(B \to D μ\barν_μ)$ and argue that the result is consistent with the Standard Model within $2\,σ$ and that the test of comp…

Our computation is made on the gauge field configurations that include $N_f=2$ dynamical light quarks by using the twisted mass QCD action. From the results obtained at four different lattice spacings we were able to take for the first time the continuum limit of this quantity computed on the lattice. Our final value, $g_c=0.53(3)(3)$, leads to $Γ(D^{\ast +}\to \bar{D}^0 π^+)= (50\pm 5\pm 6)$ keV, and is in good agreement with the experimental results for the width of the charged $D^\ast$-meson.

Bs->mu+mu- was believed to be the golden mode at LHCb to find SUSY because a large enhancement was expected in the regime of moderate and large values of tanb. Other scenarios are still possible and a correlation with other decay channels is needed. We show that a complementary information on New Physics (NP) can be obtained model-indepedently from the B-> K l+l- decay mode. We provide a prediction Br(B-> K l+l-) based on the first lattice QCD results for all three relevant form factors, f0(q^2), f+(q^2) and fT(q^2). We were then able to provide the model-independent bounds on the complex couplings to scalar and pseudoscalr operators in the b->s sector.

Abstract:
We discuss the uncertainty related to the amount of unwanted $B\to K_0^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ events in the sample of $B\to K^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$. Those events can increase the measured differential decay rate by up to 10% in the low $q^2$ region, and can be a source of non-negligible uncertainty in the full angular distribution of the $B\to K^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay. Although the transverse asymmetries should be unaffected by the presence of the $S$-wave $Kπ$ pairs, coming from the scalar $K_0^\ast$ meson, we show that in practice their normalization might be sensitive to those events and could entail a sizable uncertainty in transverse asymmetries around $q^2=2 GeV^2$. For other $q^2$'s that error is under about 10%.

Abstract:
It is proposed to clear some of the puzzles of B decay to the broad $\bar{D}^{\ast\ast}$ states by studying the corresponding decay with strange states $B_s^0 \to D_{s0}^{\ast -} π^+$ at LHCb. Interpretation of the results should be easier due to the narrowness of the $D_{s0}^{\ast -}$ state.

We used the twisted mass QCD action with $N_{\rm f}=2$ light dynamical quarks and from the computations made at four lattice spacings we were able to take the continuum limit. Besides the form factors parameterizing the above decays we also computed: (i) the hyperfine splitting and obtained $Δ= 112\pm 4$ MeV, (ii) the annihilation constant $f_{J/ψ}$ which agrees with the one inferred from the measured $Γ(J/ψ\to e^+e^-)$.
