Abstract:
In a recent publication the importance of measuaring light clusters at future NICA and FAIR experiments as "rare probes" for in-medium characteristics was presented. Within theoretical conciderations is shown how clusters would be affected by medium affects as given collider energies.

We investigate the robustness of third family solutions for hybrid compact stars with a quark matter core that correspond to the occurrence of high-mass twin stars against a softening of the phase transition by means of a construction that mimics the effects of pasta structures in the mixed phase. We consider a class of hybrid equations of state that exploits a relativistic mean-field model for the hadronic as well as for the quark matter phase. We present parametrizations that correspond to branches of high-mass twin star pairs with maximum masses between $2.05~M_\odot$ and $1.48~M_\odot$ having radius differences between 3.2 km and 1.5 km, respectively. When compared to a Maxwell construction with a fixed value of critical pressure $P_c$ the effect of the mixed phase construction consists in the occurrence of a region of pressures around $P_c$ belonging to the coexistence of hadronic and quark matter phases between the onset pressure at $P_H$ and the end of the transition at $P_Q$. The maximum broadening which would still allow mass twin compact stars is found to be $(P_Q-P_H)_{\rm max} \approx P_c$ for all parametrizations within the present class of models. At least the heavier of the neutron stars of the binary merger GW170817 could have been a member of the third family of hybrid stars.

In order to explain this statement, in this contribution theoretical considerations from the nuclear statistical equilibrium model and from a quantum statistical model of cluster production are supplemented with a discussion of a transport model for light cluster formation and with results from hydrodynamic simulations combined with the coalescence model.

As a first step, we use improved EoS for the hadronic and quark matter phases and join them via Maxwell construction. We discuss the limitations of a 2-phase description and outline steps beyond it, towards the formulation of a unified quark-nuclear matter EoS on a more fundamental level by a cluster virial expansion.

Correlations in interacting many-particle systems can lead to the formation of clusters, in particular bound states and resonances. Systematic quantum statistical approaches allow to combine the nuclear statistical equilibrium description (law of mass action) with mean-field concepts. A chemical picture, which treats the clusters as distinct entities, serves as an intuitive concept to treat the low-density limit. Within a generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck approach, the quasiparticle virial expansion is extended to include arbitrary clusters, where special attention must be paid to avoid inconsistencies such as double counting. Correlations are suppressed with increasing density due to Pauli blocking. The contribution of the continuum to the virial coefficients can be reduced by considering clusters explicitly and introducing quasiparticle energies. The cluster-virial expansion for nuclear matter joins known benchmarks at low densities with those near saturation density.
