Calculation of the Raman G peak intensity in monolayer graphene: role of Ward identities
Abstract: The absolute integrated intensity of the single-phonon Raman peak at 1580 cm^{-1} is calculated for a clean graphene monolayer. The resulting intensity is determined by the trigonal war** of the electronic bands and the anisotropy of the electron-phonon coupling, and is proportional to the second power of the excitation frequency. The main contribution to the process comes from the intermediat… ▽ More

Graphene Mode-Locked Ultrafast Laser
Abstract: Graphene is at the center of a significant research effort. Near-ballistic transport at room temperature and high mobility make it a potential material for nanoelectronics. Its electronic and mechanical properties are also ideal for micro and nanomechanical systems, thin-film transistors and transparent and conductive composites and electrodes. Here we exploit the optoelectronic properties of gr… ▽ More

Electron-electron interactions and do** dependence of the two-phonon Raman intensity in graphene
Abstract: Raman spectroscopy is a fast, non-destructive means to characterize graphene samples. In particular, the Raman spectra show a significant dependence on do**. While the change in position and width of the G peak can be explained by the non-adiabatic Kohn anomaly at $Γ$, the significant do** dependence of the 2D peak intensity has not been explained yet. Here we show that this is due to a comb… ▽ More

Boundary problems for Dirac electrons and edge-assisted Raman scattering in graphene
Abstract: The paper reports a theoretical study of scattering of electrons by edges in graphene and its effect on Raman scattering. First, effective models are discussed for translationally invariant and rough edges. Second, they are used in a calculation of the edge-activated Raman D peak intensity and its dependence on the polarization of the incident/scattered light, as well as on the position of the e… ▽ More

Uniaxial Strain in Graphene by Raman Spectroscopy: G peak splitting, Gruneisen Parameters and Sample Orientation
Abstract: Graphene is the two-dimensional building block for carbon allotropes of every other dimensionality. Since its experimental discovery, graphene continues to attract enormous interest, in particular as a new kind of matter, in which electron transport is governed by a Dirac-like wave equation, and as a model system for studying electronic and phonon properties of other, more complex, graphitic mat… ▽ More

Raman Spectroscopy of Graphene Edges
Abstract: Graphene edges are of particular interest, since their chirality determines the electronic properties. Here we present a detailed Raman investigation of graphene flakes with well defined edges oriented at different crystallographic directions. The position, width and intensity of G and D peaks at the edges are studied as a function of the incident light polarization. The D-band is strongest for… ▽ More

Stochastic dynamics of magnetization in a ferromagnetic nanoparticle out of equilibrium
Abstract: We consider a small metallic particle (quantum dot) where ferromagnetism arises as a consequence of Stoner instability. When the particle is connected to electrodes, exchange of electrons between the particle and the electrodes leads to a temperature- and bias-driven Brownian motion of the direction of the particle magnetization. Under certain conditions this Brownian motion is described by the… ▽ More

Resonant low-energy electron scattering on short-range impurities in graphene
Abstract: Resonant scattering of electrons with low energies (as compared to the bandwidth) on a single neutral short-range impurity in graphene is analyzed theoretically, taking into account the valley degeneracy. Resonances dramatically increase the scattering cross-section and introduce a strong energy dependence. Analysis of the tight-binding model shows that resonant scattering is typical for generic… ▽ More

Theory of resonant multiphonon Raman scattering in graphene
Abstract: We present a detailed calculation of intensities of two-phonon and four-phonon Raman peaks in graphene. Writing the low-energy hamiltonian of the interaction of electrons with the crystal vibrations and the electromagnetic field from pure symmetry considerations, we describe the system in terms of just a few independent coupling constants, considered to be parameters of the theory. The electron… ▽ More

Interplay of Coulomb and electron-phonon interactions in graphene
Abstract: We consider mutual effect of the electron-phonon and strong Coulomb interactions on each other by summing up leading logarithmic corrections via the renormalization group approach. We find that the Coulomb interaction enhances electron coupling to the intervalley A1 optical phonons, but not to the intravalley E2 phonons.

Effect of inelastic collisions on multiphonon Raman scattering in graphene
Abstract: We calculate the probabilities of two- and four-phonon Raman scattering in graphene and show how the relative intensities of the overtone peaks encode information about relative rates of different inelastic processes electrons are subject to. If the most important processes are electron-phonon and electron-electron scattering, the rate of the latter can be deduced from the Raman spectra.

Possible experimental manifestations of the many-body localization
Abstract: Recently, it was predicted that if all one-electron states in a non-interacting disordered system are localized, the interaction between electrons in the absence of coupling to phonons leads to a finite-temperature metal-insulator trnasition. Here we show that even in the presence of a weak coupling to phonons the transition manifests itself (i) in the nonlinear conduction, leading to a bistable… ▽ More

Metal-insulator transition in a weakly interacting many-electron system with localized single-particle states
Abstract: We consider low-temperature behavior of weakly interacting electrons in disordered conductors in the regime when all single-particle eigenstates are localized by the quenched disorder. We prove that in the absence of coupling of the electrons to any external bath dc electrical conductivity exactly vanishes as long as the temperatute $T$ does not exceed some finite value $T_c$. Dynamic localization and Coulomb blockade in quantum dots under AC pum**
Abstract: We study conductance through a quantum dot under Coulomb blockade conditions in the presence of an external periodic perturbation. The stationary state is determined by the balance between the heating of the dot electrons by the perturbation and cooling by electron exchange with the cold contacts. We show that Coulomb blockade peak can have a peculiar shape if heating is affected by dynamic loca… ▽ More

A super-Ohmic energy absorption in driven quantum chaotic systems
Abstract: We consider energy absorption by driven chaotic systems of the symplectic symmetry class. According to our analytical perturbative calculation, at the initial stage of evolution the energy growth with time can be faster than linear. This appears to be an analog of weak anti-localization in disordered systems with spin-orbit interaction. Our analytical result is also confirmed by numerical calcul… ▽ More

Hop** between localized Floquet states in periodically driven quantum dots
Abstract: The dynamic localization in energy space -- suppression of the absorption of energy from an external microwave field due to quantum interference -- was analyzed recently for a closed quantum dot in the absence of electron-electron interactions.
