VS2 and VSe2 have attracted particular attention among the transition metals dichalcogenides because of their promising physical properties concerning magnetic ordering, charge density wave (CDW), emergent superconductivity, etc., which are very sensitive to stoichiometry and dimensionality reduction. Yanson point contact (PC) spectroscopic study reveals metallic and nonmetallic states in VS2 PCs, as well as a magnetic phase transition was detected below 25 K. Analysis of PC spectra of VS2 testifies the realization of the thermal regime in PCs. At the same time, rare PC spectra, where the magnetic phase transition was not visible, shows a broad maximum of around 20 mV, likely connected with electron-phonon interaction (EPI). On the other hand, PC spectra of VSe2 demonstrate metallic behavior, which allowed us to detect features associated with EPI and CDW transition. The Kondo effect appeared for both compounds, apparently due to interlayer vanadium ions. Besides, the resistive switching was observed in PCs on VSe2 between a low resistive, mainly metallic-type state, and a high resistive nonmetallic-type state by applying bias voltage (about 0.4V). In contrast, reverse switching occurs by applying a voltage of opposite polarity (about 0.4V). The reason may be the alteration of stoichiometry in the PC core due to the displacement of V ions to interlayer under a high electric field. The observed resistive switching characterize VSe2 as a potential material, e.g., for non-volatile resistive RAM, neuromorphic engineering, and for other nanoelectronic applications. At the same time, VSe2 attracts attention as a rare layered van der Waals compound with magnetic transition.

TiSe2 has received much attention among the transition metals chalcogenides because of its thrilling physical properties concerning atypical resistivity behavior, emerging of charge density wave (CDW) state, induced superconductivity etc. Here, we report discovery of new feature of TiSe2, namely, observation of resistive switching in voltage biased point contacts (PCs) based on TiSe2 and its derivatives doped by S and Cu (TiSeS, CuxTiSe2). The switching is taking place between a low resistive mainly metallic-type state and a high resistive semiconducting-type state by applying bias voltage (usually below 0.5V), while reverse switching takes place by applying voltage of opposite polarity (usually below 0.5V). The difference in resistance between these two states can reach up to two orders of magnitude at the room temperature. The origin of the effect can be attributed to the variation of stoichiometry in PC core due to drift/displacement of Se/Ti vacancies under high electric field. Additionally, we demonstrated, that heating takes place in PC core, which can facilitate the electric field induced effect. At the same time, we did not found any evidence for CDW spectral features in our PC spectra for TiSe2. The observed resistive switching allows to propose TiSe2 and their derivatives as the promising materials, e.g., for non-volatile resistive random access memory (ReRAM) engineering.

We show, that the Yansons PC spectra display a broad maximum around 15 meV, indicating, apparently, EPI mechanism of Cooper pairing in PtBi2. Moreover, we discovered a substantial increase of Tc up to ~ 3.5 K in PCs. The observed Tc is sufficiently higher than the bulk value, as well as detected at hydrostatic pressure. We calculated the phonon density of states and Eliashberg EPI function in PtBi2 within the framework of the density functional theory. A comparison of experimental data with theoretical calculations showed acceptable agreement. The theoretical Tc is 3.5 K, which corresponds to the experimental value.

Symmetry breaking in topological matter has become in recent years a key concept in condensed matter physics to unveil novel electronic states. In this work, we predict that broken inversion symmetry and strong spin-orbit coupling in trigonal PtBi$_2$ lead to a type-I Weyl semimetal band structure. Transport measurements show an unusually robust low dimensional superconductivity in thin exfoliated flakes up to 126 nm in thickness (with $T_c \sim 275-400$~mK), which constitutes the first report and study of unambiguous superconductivity in a type-I Weyl semimetal. Remarkably, a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition with $T_\text{BKT} \sim 310$~mK is revealed in up to 60 nm thick flakes, which is nearly an order of magnitude thicker than the rare examples of two-dimensional superconductors exhibiting such a transition. This makes PtBi$_2$ an ideal platform to study low dimensional and unconventional superconductivity in topological semimetals.

The origin of the effect can be formation of domain in PC core by applying a bias voltage, when a strong electric field (about 10kV/cm) modifies the crystal structure and controls its polarization. In addition to the discovery of the switching effect in PCs, we also suggest a simple method of material testing before functionalizing them, which offers a great advantage in finding suitable novel substances. The point contact Andreev reflection spectra were analyzed in the framework of the two-band model. As a result, the presence of two anisotropic superconducting gaps in FeSe were certainly established and their BCS-like temperature dependencies were obtained. The weights of each gap have been determined and the anisotropy parameter has been calculated. It is shown, that sub-kelvin temperatures are necessary to ascertain details of the superconducting gap structure, especially for multiband materials when Andreev reflection spectroscopy is applied.

We carried out point contact (PC) investigation of WTe2 single crystals. We measured Yanson d2V/dI2 PC spectra of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in WTe2. The spectra demonstrate a main phonon peak around 8 meV and a shallow second maximum near 16 meV. Their position is in line with the calculation of the EPI spectra of WTe2 in the literature, albeit phonons with higher energy are not resolved in our PC spectra. An additional contribution to the spectra is present above the phonon energy, what may be connected with the peculiar electronic band structure and need to be clarified. We detected tiny superconducting features in d2V/dI2 close to zero bias, which broadens by increasing temperature and blurs above 6K. Thus, (surface) superconductivity may exist in WTe2 with a topologically nontrivial state. We found a broad maximum in dV/dI at large voltages (>200 mV) indicating change of conductivity from metallic to semiconducting type. The latter might be induced by the high current density (~10^8 A/cm^2) in the PC and/or local heating, thus enabling the manipulation of the quantum electronic states at the interface in the PC core.

MoTe2 is a Weyl semimetal, which exhibits unique non-saturating magnetoresistance and strongly reinforced superconductivity under pressure. Here, we demonstrate that a novel mesoscopic superconductivity at ambient pressure arises on the surface of MoTe2 with a critical temperature up to 5 K significantly exceeding the bulk Tc=0.1K. We measured the derivatives of I-V curves for metallic hetero-contacts of MoTe2 with Ag or Cu, homo-contacts of MoTe2 as well as "soft" point contacts (PCs). Large number of these hetero-contacts exhibit a dV/dI dependence, which is characteristic for Andreev reflection. It allows to determine the superconducting gap Δ. The average gap values are 2Δ=1.30+/-0.15 meV with a 2Δ/kBTc ratio of 3.7+/-0.4, which slightly exceeds the standard BCS value of 3.52. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the gap follows a BCS-like behavior, which points to a nodeless superconducting order parameter with some strong-coupling renormalization. Remarkably, the observation of a "gapless-like" single minimum in the dV/dI of "soft" PCs may indicate a topological superconducting state of the MoTe2 surface as these contacts probe mainly the interface and avoid additional pressure effect. Therefore, MoTe2 might be a suitable material to study new forms of topological superconductivity.

Investigation of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in LaCuSb2 and La(Cu0.8Ag0.2)Sb2 compounds by Yanson point-contact spectroscopy (PCS) has been carried out. Point-contact spectra display a pronounced broad maximum in the range of 10÷20 mV caused by EPI. Variation of the position of this maximum is likely connected with anisotropic phonon spectrum in these layered compounds. The absence of phonon features after the main maximum allows the assessment of the Debye energy of about 40 meV. The EPI constant for the LaCuSb2 compound was estimated to be λ=0.2+/-0.03. A zero-bias minimum in differential resistance for the latter compound is observed for some point contacts, which vanishes at about 6 K, pointing to the formation of superconducting phase under point contact, while superconducting critical temperature of the bulk sample is only 1K.

FeSe single crystals have been studied by soft point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy. Superconducting gap features in the differential resistance dV/dI(V) of point contacts such as a characteristic Andreev-reflection double-minimum structure have been measured versus temperature and magnetic field. Analyzing dV/dI within the extended two-gap Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk model allows to extract both the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the superconducting gaps. The temperature dependence of both gaps is close to the standard BCS behavior. Remarkably, the magnitude of the double-minimum structure gradually vanishes in magnetic field, while the minima position only slightly shifts with field indicating a weak decrease of the superconducting gaps. Analyzing the dV/dI(V) spectra for 25 point contacts results in the averaged gap values <Delta_L> = 1.8+/-0.4meV and <Delta_S>=1.0+/-0.2 meV and reduced values 2<Delta_L>/kTc=4.2+/-0.9 and 2<Delta_S>/kTc=2.3+/-0.5 for the large (L) and small (S) gap, respectively. Additionally, the small gap contribution was found to be within tens of percent decreasing with both temperature and magnetic field. No signatures in the dV/dI spectra were observed testifying a gapless superconductivity or presence of even smaller gaps.

The PC study reveals the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) spectral function with dominant phonon maximum around 12 meV and further weak structures (hump or kink) at higher energy at about 50 meV. No "soft" modes below 12 meV are resolved in the normal state. The PC EPI spectra are qualitatively similar for the different directions. Contrary, directional study of the SC gap results in Δ_[100]=1.5 meV for the a direction and Δ_[001]=2.3 meV along the c axis; however the critical temperature T_c in PC in all cases is near to that in the bulk sample. The value 2Δ_[001]/kT_c=3.6 is close to the BCS value of 3.52, and the temperature dependence Δ_[001](T) is BCS-like, while the for small gap Δ_[100](T) is below BCS behavior at T>T_c/2 similarly as in the two-gap superconductor MgB2. An overview of the recent efforts in point-contact (PC) spectroscopy of the nickel borocarbide superconductors RNi2B2C in the normal and superconducting (SC) state is given. The results of measurements of the PC electron- boson(phonon) interaction spectral function are presented. Phonon maxima and crystalline-electric-field (CEF) excitations are observed in the PC spectra of compounds with R=Dy, Ho, Er and Tm, while for R=Y a dominant phonon maximum around 12 meV is characteristic. Additionally, non-phonon and non-CEF maxima are observed near 3 meV in R=Ho and near 6 meV in R=Dy. Directional PC study of the SC gap gives evidence for the multi-band nature of superconductivity in R=Y, Lu. At low temperature the SC gap in R=Ho exhibits a standard single-band BCS-like dependence, which vanishes above T_c^*= 5.6K< T_c=8.5K, where a specifc magnetic ordering starts to play a role. For R=Tm (T_c=10.5 K) a decrease of the SC gap is observed below 5 K.

Other phonon maxima at 20, 24 and 32meV specified in the phonon DOS of YNi2B2C by neutron measurements [PRB, V.55, 9058 (1997)] are not resolved in the PC spectra pointing out to the main role of the low energy phonon modes in EPI. Directional study of the SC gap results in Δ_[100]=1.5meV for the a- direction and Δ_[001]=2.4meV along the c-axis which may point to anisotropic and/or multiband behavior. In nanocontacts between normal and ferromagnetic metals (N--F) abrupt changes of the order of 1% are detected in differential resistance, dV/dI(V), versus bias voltage, V, on achieving of high current densities, ~10^9 A/cm^2. These features in dV/dI(V) are observed when the electron flow is directed from the nonmagnetic metal into the ferromagnet and connected with magnetization excitations in the ferromagnet induced by the current. Applying an external magnetic field leads to a shift of the observed features to higher biasing current, confirming the magnetic nature of the effect. Such effects are observed for the non-ballistic (not spectral) regime of current flow in the nanocontacts. Thus, the current induced magneto-conductance effects in multilayered N--F structures (nanopillars) extensively studied in the recent literature have much more general character and can be stimulated by elastic electron scattering at single N--F interfaces.
