This study uses an innovative measure, the Semantic Brand Score, to assess the interest of stakeholders in different company core values. Among others, we focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) core value statements, and on the attention they receive from five categories of stakeholders (customers, company communication teams, employees, associations and media). Combining big data methods and tools of Social Network Analysis and Text Mining, we analyzed about 58,000 Italian tweets and found that different stakeholders have different prevailing interests. CSR gets much less attention than expected. Core values related to customers and employees are in the foreground.

In order to face the complexity of business environments and detect priorities while triggering contingency strategies, we propose a new methodological approach that combines text mining, social network and big data analytics, with the assessment of stakeholders' attitudes towards company core values. This approach was applied in a case study where we considered the Twitter discourse about core values in Italy. We collected more than 94,000 tweets related to the core values of the firms listed in Fortune's ranking of the World's Most Admired Companies (2013-2017). For the Italian scenario, we found three predominant core values orientations (Customers, Employees and Excellence) - which should be at the basis of any business strategy - and three latent ones (Economic-Financial Growth, Citizenship and Social Responsibility), which need periodic attention. Our contribution is mostly methodological and extends the research on text mining and on online big data analytics applied in complex business contexts.

The paper illustrates how we built a federated cloud computing platform dedicated to the Italian research community. Building a cloud platform is a daunting task, that requires coordinating the deployment of many services, interrelated and dependent on each other. Provisioning, servicing and maintaining the platform must be automated. For our deployment, we chose a declarative modeling tool, that allows describing the parts that compose the system and their relations of supplier/consumer of specific interfaces. The tool arranges the steps to bring the deployment to convergence by transforming the state of the system until it reaches a configuration that satisfies all constraints. We chose a declarative service modeling approach for orchestrating both the deployment of the platform by the administrators and the deployment of applications by users. The cloud platform has been designed so that it can be managed by this kind of automation, facilitating the deployment of federated regions by anyone wishing to join and to contribute resources to the federation. Federated resources are integrated into a single cloud platform available to any user of the federation. The federation can also seamlessly include public clouds. We describe the architectural choices, how we adapted the OpenStack basic facilities to the needs of a federation of multiple independent organizations, how we control resource allocation according to committed plans and correspondingly how we handle accounting and billing of resource usage. Besides providing traditional IaaS services, the cloud supports self-service deployment of cloud applications. The cloud thus addresses the long tail of science, allowing researchers of any discipline, without expertise in system or cloud administration, to deploy applications readily available for their perusal.

Abstract:
A search for the decay mu -> e gamma, performed at PSI and based on data from the initial three months of operation of the MEG experiment, yields an upper limit on the branching ratio of BR(mu -> e gamma) < 2.8 x 10**-11 (90% C.L.). This corresponds to the measurement of positrons and photons from ~ 10**14 stopped mu-decays by means of a superconducting positron spectrometer and a 900 litre liqu…

The Online Silicon Vertex Tracker is the new CDF-II level 2 trigger processor designed to reconstruct 2-D tracks within the Silicon Vertex Detector with high speed and accuracy. By performing a precise measurement of impact parameters the SVT allows tagging online B events which typically show displaced secondary vertices. Physics simulations show that this will greatly enhance the CDF-II B-physics capability. The SVT has been fully assembled and operational since the beginning of Tevatron RunII in April 2001. In this paper we briefly review the SVT design and physics motivation and then describe its performance during the early phase (April-October 2001) of run II.
