We analyze a setup composed of a correlated quantum dot (QD) coupled to one metallic lead and one end of topological chain hosting a Majorana zero mode (MZM). In such a hybrid structure, a leakage of the MZM into the region of the QD competes with the Kondo resonance appearing as a consequence of the spin-exchange interactions between the dot and the lead. In the work, we use the nontrivial technique called the continuous unitary transformation (CUT) to analyze this competition. Using the CUT technique, we inspect the influence of the coupling between the QD and the chain on effective exchange interactions and calculate the resultant Kondo temperature.

We explore the electron dynamics of a system composed of double quantum dot embedded between metallic and superconducting leads in a T-shape geometry. In nanoscopic systems, where electron transfer between electrodes can be realized via different paths, interference effects play an important role. For double quantum dot system in the chosen geometry, interference of electrons transferred between electrodes via the interfacial quantum dot and electrons scattered on the side dot gives rise to Fano-like interference. If such a system is additionally coupled to a superconducting electrode, together with the well-understood Fano resonance an additional resonance appears on the opposite side of the Fermi level. In the recent work [Sci. Rep. 10, 2881 (2020)], we showed that this resonance occurs solely as a result of the local pairing of non-scattered electrons with scattered ones. In this work, considering the quench dynamics, we explore how much time is required for formation of each of these resonances. In particular, (i) we analyze the charge oscillations between subsystems; (ii) we estimate the time required for each resonance to achieve stable equilibrium upon an abrupt change of interdot connection; (iii) we discuss a typical energy and time scales for experiments on similar architectures.

Schneider et al., https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-020-18540-3, Nature Communications 11, 4707 (2020)] where the quantum dot energy level can be tuned by gate potential we examine how much time is needed for the Majorana mode to leak into the normal region. We estimate, that for typical hybrid structures this dynamical process would take about 20 nanoseconds. We propose a feasible empirical protocol for its detection by means of the time-resolved Andreev tunneling spectroscopy.

We analyze the influence of a local pairing on the quantum interference in nanoscopic systems. As a model system we choose the double quantum dot coupled to one metallic and one superconducting electrode in the T-shape geometry. The analysis is particularly valuable for systems containing coupled objects with considerably different broadening of energy levels. In such systems, the scattering of itinerant electrons on a discrete (or narrow) energy level gives rise to the Fano-type interference. Systems with induced superconducting order, along well understood Fano resonances, exhibit also another features on the opposite side of the Fermi level. The lineshape of these resonances differs significantly from their reflection on the opposite side of the Fermi level, and their origin was not fully understood. Here, considering the spin-polarized tunneling model, we explain a microscopic mechanism of a formation of these resonances and discuss the nature of their uncommon lineshapes. We show that the anomalous Fano profiles originate solely from the pairing of nonscattered electrons with scattered ones. We investigate also the interplay of each type of resonances with the Kondo physics and discuss the resonant features in differential conductivity.

We investigate the properties of a system where the itinerant electrons coexist and interact with the preformed local pairs. Using the nonperturbative continuous unitary transformation technique we show that Andreev-type scattering between these charge carriers gives rise to the enhanced diamagnetic response and is accompanied by appearance of the Drude peak inside the pseudogap regime ω<2Δ_{pg}. Both thes effects are caused above the transition temperature T_c by the short-range superconducting correlations. In fact, the residual diamagnetism has been detected by the torque magnetometry in the lanthanum and bismuth cuprate superconductors at temperatures up to ~ 1.5T_c. In this work we show how the superconducting correlations can be observed in the a.c. and d.c. conductivity.

The Lorentz off-axis electron holography technique is applied to study the magnetic nature of Mn rich nanoprecipitates in (Mn,Ga)As system. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated in detection of the magnetic field even for small nanocrystals having an average size down to 20 nm.

Superconductivity and magnetism are usually the conflicting (competing) phenomena. We show, however, that in nanoscopic objects the electron pairing may promote the magnetic ordering. Such situation is possible at low temperatures in the quantum dots placed between the conducting and superconducting reservoirs, where the proximity induced electron pairing cooperates with the correlations enhancing the spin-exchange interactions. The emerging Kondo resonance, which is observable in the Andreev conductance, can be significantly enhanced by the coupling to superconducting lead. We explain this intriguing tendency within the Anderson impurity model using: the generalized Schrieffer-Wolff canonical transformation, the second order perturbative treatment of the Coulomb repulsion, and the nonperturbative numerical renormalization group calculations. We also provide hints for experimental observability of this phenomenon.
