Motivation: Unanticipated drug-drug interactions (DDIs) pose significant risks in polypharmacy, emphasizing the need for predictive methods. Recent advancements in computational techniques aim to address this challenge.
Methods: We introduce ADEP, a novel approach integrating a discriminator and an encoder-decoder model to address data sparsity and enhance feature extraction. ADEP employs a three-part model, including multiple classification methods, to predict adverse effects in polypharmacy.
Results: Evaluation on benchmark datasets shows ADEP outperforms well-known methods such as GGI-DDI, SSF-DDI, LSFC, DPSP, GNN-DDI, MSTE, MDF-SA-DDI, NNPS, DDIMDL, Random Forest, K-Nearest-Neighbor, Logistic Regression, and Decision Tree. Key metrics include Accuracy, AUROC, AUPRC, F-score, Recall, Precision, False Negatives, and False Positives. ADEP achieves more accurate predictions of adverse effects in polypharmacy. A case study with real-world data illustrates ADEP's practical application in identifying potential DDIs and preventing adverse effects.
Conclusions: ADEP significantly advances the prediction of polypharmacy adverse effects, offering improved accuracy and reliability. Its innovative architecture enhances feature extraction from sparse medical data, improving medication safety and patient outcomes.

Taking into account the importance of the unified theory of quantum mechanics and gravity, and the existence of a minimal length of the order of the Planck scale, we consider a modified Schrödinger equation resulting from a generalized uncertainty principle, which finds applications from the realm of quantum information to large-scale physics, with a quantum mechanically corrected gravitational interaction proposed very recently. As the resulting equation cannot be solved by common exact approaches, we propose a Bethe ansatz approach, which will be applied and whose results we will discuss, commenting on the analogy of the present study with some other interesting physical problems.

The presence of the former implies that the spectrum is dominated by gaps. In addition, we discuss two modifications of the model in which this is not the case, the zero limit of the length parameter in the coupling, and the sign switch of the coupling matrix at the vertices of degree three; while different they both yield the same probability that a randomly chosen positive energy lies in the spectrum.

Video anomaly detection (VAD) is an important but challenging task in computer vision. The main challenge rises due to the rarity of training samples to model all anomaly cases. Hence, semi-supervised anomaly detection methods have gotten more attention, since they focus on modeling normals and they detect anomalies by measuring the deviations from normal patterns. Despite impressive advances of these methods in modeling normal motion and appearance, long-term motion modeling has not been effectively explored so far. Inspired by the abilities of the future frame prediction proxy-task, we introduce the task of future video prediction from a single frame, as a novel proxy-task for video anomaly detection. This proxy-task alleviates the challenges of previous methods in learning longer motion patterns. Moreover, we replace the initial and future raw frames with their corresponding semantic segmentation map, which not only makes the method aware of object class but also makes the prediction task less complex for the model. Extensive experiments on the benchmark datasets (ShanghaiTech, UCSD-Ped1, and UCSD-Ped2) show the effectiveness of the method and the superiority of its performance compared to SOTA prediction-based VAD methods.

Hashmaps are widely utilized data structures in many applications to perform a probe on key-value pairs. However, their performance tends to degrade with the increase in the dataset size, which leads to expensive off-chip memory accesses to perform bucket traversals associated with hash collision. In this work, we propose HashMem, a processing-in-memory (PIM) architecture designed to perform bucket traversals along the row buffers at the subarray level. Due to the inherent parallelism achieved with many concurrent subarray accesses and the massive bandwidth available within DRAM, the execution time related to bucket traversals is significantly reduced. We have evaluated two versions of HashMem, performance-optimized and area-optimized, which have a speedup of 49.1x/17.1x and 9.2x/3.2x over standard C++ map and hyper-optimized hopscotch map implementations, respectively.

Multi-task learning based video anomaly detection methods combine multiple proxy tasks in different branches to detect video anomalies in different situations. Most existing methods either do not combine complementary tasks to effectively cover all motion patterns, or the class of the objects is not explicitly considered. To address the aforementioned shortcomings, we propose a novel multi-task learning based method that combines complementary proxy tasks to better consider the motion and appearance features. We combine the semantic segmentation and future frame prediction tasks in a single branch to learn the object class and consistent motion patterns, and to detect respective anomalies simultaneously. In the second branch, we added several attention mechanisms to detect motion anomalies with attention to object parts, the direction of motion, and the distance of the objects from the camera. Our qualitative results show that the proposed method considers the object class effectively and learns motion with attention to the aforementioned important factors which results in a precise motion modeling and a better motion anomaly detection. Additionally, quantitative results show the superiority of our method compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Semi-supervised video anomaly detection (VAD) methods formulate the task of anomaly detection as detection of deviations from the learned normal patterns. Previous works in the field (reconstruction or prediction-based methods) suffer from two drawbacks: 1) They focus on low-level features, and they (especially holistic approaches) do not effectively consider the object classes. 2) Object-centric approaches neglect some of the context information (such as location). To tackle these challenges, this paper proposes a novel two-stream object-aware VAD method that learns the normal appearance and motion patterns through image translation tasks. The appearance branch translates the input image to the target semantic segmentation map produced by Mask-RCNN, and the motion branch associates each frame with its expected optical flow magnitude. Any deviation from the expected appearance or motion in the inference stage shows the degree of potential abnormality. We evaluated our proposed method on the ShanghaiTech, UCSD-Ped1, and UCSD-Ped2 datasets and the results show competitive performance compared with state-of-the-art works. Most importantly, the results show that, as significant improvements to previous methods, detections by our method are completely explainable and anomalies are localized accurately in the frames.

It is shown that the vertex parity determines the spectral behavior at high energies and the Band-Berkolaiko universality holds whenever the edges are incommensurate. The magnetic field influences the probability that an energy belongs to the spectrum in the tight-chain case, and also it can turn some spectral bands into infinitely degenerate eigenvalues.

Video anomaly detection is one of the hot research topics in computer vision nowadays, as abnormal events contain a high amount of information. Anomalies are one of the main detection targets in surveillance systems, usually needing real-time actions. Regarding the availability of labeled data for training (i.e., there is not enough labeled data for abnormalities), semi-supervised anomaly detection approaches have gained interest recently. This paper introduces the researchers of the field to a new perspective and reviews the recent deep-learning based semi-supervised video anomaly detection approaches, based on a common strategy they use for anomaly detection. Our goal is to help researchers develop more effective video anomaly detection methods. As the selection of a right Deep Neural Network plays an important role for several parts of this task, a quick comparative review on DNNs is prepared first. Unlike previous surveys, DNNs are reviewed from a spatiotemporal feature extraction viewpoint, customized for video anomaly detection. This part of the review can help researchers in this field select suitable networks for different parts of their methods. Moreover, some of the state-of-the-art anomaly detection methods, based on their detection strategy, are critically surveyed. The review provides a novel and deep look at existing methods and results in stating the shortcomings of these approaches, which can be a hint for future works.

The positive spectrum consists of infinite number of bands, some of which may be flat; the negative one has at most three and two bands, respectively. The kagome lattice example shows that even in graphs with such an uncommon vertex coupling spectral universality may hold: if its edges are incommensurate, the probability that a randomly chosen positive number is contained in the spectrum is $\approx 0.639$.

Convex optimization challenges are currently pervasive in many science and engineering domains. In many applications of convex optimization, such as those involving multi-agent systems and resource allocation, the objective function can persistently switch during the execution of an optimization algorithm. Motivated by such applications, we analyze the effect of persistently switching objectives in continuous-time optimization algorithms. In particular, we take advantage of existing robust stability results for switched systems with distinct equilibria and extend these results to systems described by differential inclusions, making the results applicable to recent optimization algorithms that employ differential inclusions for improving efficiency and/or robustness. Within the framework of hybrid systems theory, we provide an accurate characterization, in terms of Omega-limit sets, of the set to which the optimization dynamics converge. Finally, by considering the switching signal to be constrained in its average dwell time, we establish semi-global practical asymptotic stability of these sets with respect to the dwell-time parameter.

We investigate spectral properties of quantum graphs in the form of a periodic chain of rings with a connecting link between each adjacent pair, assuming that wave functions at the vertices are matched through conditions manifestly non-invariant with respect to time reversal. We discuss, in particular, the high-energy behavior of such systems and the limiting situations when one of the edges in the elementary cell of such a graph shrinks to zero. The spectrum depends on the topology and geometry of the graph. The probability that an energy belongs to the spectrum takes three different values reflecting the vertex parities and mirror symmetry, and the band patterns are influenced by commensurability of graph edge lengths.

We consider a family of Schrödinger operators supported by a periodic chain of loops connected either tightly or loosely through connecting links of the length $\ell>0$ with the vertex coupling which is non-invariant with respect to the time reversal. The spectral behavior of the model illustrates that the high-energy behavior of such vertices is determined by the vertex parity. The positive spectrum of the tightly connected chain covers the entire halfline while the one of the loose chain is dominated by gaps. In addition, there is a negative spectrum consisting of an infinitely degenerate eigenvalue in the former case, and of one or two absolutely continuous bands in the latter. Furthermore, we discuss the limit $\ell\to 0$ and show that while the spectrum converges as a set to that of the tight chain, as it should in view of a result by Berkolaiko, Latushkin, and Sukhtaiev, this limit is rather non-uniform.
