Abstract:
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a connected $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices and $m$ hyperedges. In [A.~Banerjee, On the spectrum of hypergraph, Linear Algebra and its Application, 614(2021), 82--110], Anirban Banerjee introduced a new adjacency matrix for hypergraphs. In this article we consider the corresponding signless Laplacian matrix $Q(\mathcal{H})$ and discuss about its spectrum.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the last couple of years have been drastic in terms of human behavioral patterns. People were forced to stay at home for a very long duration because of the strict lockdown measures imposed by governments all over the globe. India was no exception, wherein the Indian government imposed several very strict lockdowns all across the country, which restricted human activities and their social behaviors. However, such restrictions were seen to have a positive impact on environment and ecology. In this paper, we aim to study the changes in House Sparrow sightings, as a result of the lockdowns. Are the house sparrows back? is the question we try to answer, using appropriate exploratory analysis and statistical modelling.

In this paper, we look at the impact of Environment, Social and Governance related news articles and social media data on the stock market performance. We pick four stocks of companies which are widely known in their domain to understand the complete effect of ESG as the newly opted investment style remains restricted to only the stocks with widespread information. We summarise live data of both twitter tweets and newspaper articles and create a sentiment index using a dictionary technique based on online information for the month of July, 2022. We look at the stock price data for all the four companies and calculate the percentage change in each of them. We also compare the overall sentiment of the company to its percentage change over a specific historical period.

We report a two-step process for the fabrication of superconductor-insulator-normal metal tunnel junctions using NbN as the superconducting electrode and its surface oxide as the insulating tunnel barrier, and investigate its efficacy in measuring spin-polarisation of ferromagnets using the Meservey-Tedrow technique. We observe that for NbN film thickness below 10 nm, under the application of parallel magnetic field, the superconducting density of states show clear "Zeeman" splitting into spin-up and spin-down sub-bands. Tunnelling measurements on devices where ferromagnetic Co is used as the normal electrode shows that these devices can be used to reliably measure spin polarisation of a ferromagnet at temperatures up to 1.6 K. The simplicity of our fabrication process, and the ability to perform spin-polarisation measurements at 4He temperatures makes NbN a very attractive candidate for spin polarisation measurements.

For the resistance matrix $R:=[r_{ij}]$, there is an elegant formula to compute the inverse of $R$. This says that \[R^{-1}=-\frac{1}{2}L + \frac{1}{τ' R τ} ττ', \] where \[τ:=(τ_1,\dotsc,τ_n)'~~\mbox{and}~~ τ_{i}:=2- \sum_{\{j \in V(G):(i,j) \in E(G)\}} r_{ij}~~~i=1,\dotsc,n. \] A far reaching generalization of this result that gives an inverse formula for a generalized resistance matrix of a strongly connected and matrix weighted balanced directed graph is obtained in this paper. When the weights are scalars, it is shown that the generalized resistance is a non-negative real number. We also obtain a perturbation result involving resistance matrices of connected graphs and Laplacians of digraphs.

In this article, we introduce a wider class of matrices called generalized Euclidean distance matrices (GDMs) that include EDMs. Each GDM is an entry-wise nonnegative matrix. A GDM is not symmetric unless it is an EDM. By some new techniques, we show that many significant results on Euclidean distance matrices can be extended to generalized Euclidean distance matrices. These contain results about eigenvalues, inverse, determinant, spectral radius, Moore-Penrose inverse and some majorization inequalities. We finally give an application by constructing infinitely divisible matrices using generalized Euclidean distance matrices.

We report the growth, characterization and superconducting properties of a new amorphous superconductor, RexZr ( x ~ 6 ), in thin film form. Films were grown by pulsed laser deposition with the substrate kept at room temperature. Films with thickness larger than 40 nm showed a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of 5.9 K. Superconducting properties were measured for films with varying thickness from 120 to 3 nm. The normal state resistance scales linearly with inverse of thickness. The transition temperature, critical field, coherence length, penetration depth and superconducting energy gap changes marginally with decreasing film thickness down to 8 nm. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy and penetration depth measurements provide evidence for a single gap strong coupling s-wave superconductor. Magneto-transport properties indicate a rich magnetic field-temperature phase diagram with the possibility of vortex liquid phases existing over a large fraction of the mixed state.

In practice, the resistance $r_{ij}$ is more significant than the classical distance. One reason for this is, numerical examples show that the resistance distance between $i$ and $j$ is always less than or equal to the classical distance, i.e. $r_{ij} \leq d_{ij}$. However, no proof for this inequality is known. In this paper, we show that this inequality holds for all directed cactus graphs.

Every square matrix $A=(a_{uv})\in \mathcal{C}^{n\times n}$ can be represented as a digraph having $n$ vertices. In the digraph, a block (or 2-connected component) is a maximally connected subdigraph that has no cut-vertex. The determinant and the permanent of a matrix can be calculated in terms of the determinant and the permanent of some specific induced subdigraphs of the blocks in the digraph. Interestingly, these induced subdigraphs are vertex-disjoint and they partition the digraph. Such partitions of the digraph are called the $\mathcal{B}$-partitions. In this paper, first, we develop an algorithm to find the $\mathcal{B}$-partitions. Next, we analyze the parameterized complexity of matrix determinant and permanent, where, the parameters are the sizes of blocks and the number of cut-vertices of the digraph. We give a class of combinations of cut-vertices and block sizes for which the parametrized complexities beat the state of art complexities of the determinant and the permanent.

The compound crystallizes as on ordered variant of the HfCuSi$_2$-type crystal structure and adopts the orthorhombic space group $Pmca$~(\#57) with two symmetry inequivalent cerium atomic positions in the unit cell. The orthorhombic crystal structure of our single crystal was confirmed from the powder x-ray diffraction and from electron diffraction patterns obtained from the transmission electron microscope. The anisotropic physical properties have been investigated on a good quality single crystal by measuring the magnetic susceptibility, isothermal magnetization, electrical transport and heat capacity. The magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements revealed that this compound orders antiferromagnetically with two closely spaced magnetic transitions at $T_{\rm N1} = 6$~K and $T_{\rm N2} = 4.9$~K. Magnetization studies have revealed a large magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the crystalline electric field (CEF) with an easy axis of magnetization along the [010] direction. The magnetic susceptibility measured along the [001] direction exhibited a broad hump in the temperature range 50 to 250~K, while typical Curie-Weiss behaviour was observed along the other two orthogonal directions. The electrical resistivity and the heat capacity measurements revealed that CeAgAs$_2$ is a Kondo lattice system with a magnetic ground state.

A $\mathcal{B}$-partition of $G$ is a partition into $k$ vertex-disjoint subgraph $(\hat{B_1},\hat{B_1},\hdots,\hat{B_k})$ such that $\hat{B}_i$ is induced subgraph of $B_i$ for $i=1,2,\hdots,k.$ The terms $\prod_{i=1}^{k}\det(\hat{B}_i),\ \prod_{i=1}^{k}\text{per}(\hat{B}_i)$ are det-summands and per-summands, respectively, corresponding to the $\mathcal{B}$-partition. The determinant and permanent of a graph having no loops on its cut-vertices is equal to summation of det-summands and per-summands, respectively, corresponding to all possible $\mathcal{B}$-partitions. Thus, in this paper we calculate determinant and permanent of some graphs, which include block graph with negatives cliques, signed unicyclic graph, mix complete graph, negative mix complete graph, and star mix block graphs.

The roles of applied strain and temperature on the hydration dynamics of cement paste are uncovered in the present study. We find that the system hardens over time through two different aging processes. The first process dominates the initial period of hydration and is characterized by the shear stress $σ$ varying sub-linearly with the strain-rate $\dotγ$; during this process the system is in a relatively low-density state and the inter-particle interactions are dominated by hydrodynamic lubrication. At a later stage of hydration the system evolves to a high-density state where the interactions become frictional, and $σ$ varies super-linearly with $\dotγ$; this is identified as the second process. An instability, indicated by a drop in $σ$, that is non-monotonic with $\dotγ$ and can be tuned by temperature, separates the two processes. Both from rheology and microscopy studies we establish that the observed instability is related to fracture mechanics of space-filling structure.

In a signed graph $G$, an induced subgraph is called a negative clique if it is a complete graph and all of its edges are negative. In this paper, we give the characteristic polynomials and the eigenvalues of some signed graphs having negative cliques. This includes cycle graphs, path graphs, complete graphs with vertex-disjoint negative cliques of different orders, and star block graphs with negative cliques. Interestingly, if we reverse the signs of the edges of these graphs, we get the families of weakly balanced signed graphs, thus the eigenvalues of wide classes of weakly balanced signed graphs are also calculated. In social network theory, the eigenvalues of the signed graphs play an important role in determining their stability and develo** the measures for the degree of balance.

There is a digraph corresponding to every square matrix over $\mathbb{C}$. We generate a recurrence relation using the Laplace expansion to calculate the characteristic, and permanent polynomials of a square matrix. Solving this recurrence relation, we found that the characteristic, and permanent polynomials can be calculated in terms of characteristic, and permanent polynomials of some specific induced subdigraphs of blocks in the digraph, respectively. Interestingly, these induced subdigraphs are vertex-disjoint and they partition the digraph. Similar to the characteristic, and permanent polynomials; the determinant, and permanent can also be calculated. Therefore, this article provides a combinatorial meaning of these useful quantities of the matrix theory. We conclude this article with a number of open problems which may be attempted for further research in this direction.

Abstract:
The Kirchhoff index of a graph is defined as half of the sum of all effective resistance distances between any two vertices. Assuming a complete multipartite graph G, by methods from linear algebra we explicitly formulate effective resistance distances between any two vertices of G, and its Kirchhoff index. In rest of paper we explore extremal value of Kirchhoff index for multipartite graphs

Abstract:
Nath and Paul (Linear Algebra Appl.,460(2014),97-110) have shown that the largest distance Laplacian eigenvalue of a path is simple and the corresponding eigenvector has properties similar to the Fiedler vector. We given an alternative proof, establishing a more general result in the process. It is conjectured that a similar phenomenon holds for any tree.

The walk distances in graphs are defined as the result of appropriate transformations of the $\sum_{k=0}^\infty(tA)^k$ proximity measures, where $A$ is the weighted adjacency matrix of a connected weighted graph and $t$ is a sufficiently small positive parameter. The walk distances are graph-geodetic, moreover, they converge to the shortest path distance and to the so-called long walk distance as the parameter $t$ approaches its limiting values. In this paper, simple expressions for the long walk distance are obtained. They involve the generalized inverse, minors, and inverses of submatrices of the symmetric irreducible singular M-matrix ${\cal L}=ρI-A,$ where $ρ$ is the Perron root of $A.$

We have investigated the magnetic behavior of the nanocrystalline form of a well-known Laves phase compound, ErCo2 - the bulk form of which has been known to undergo an interesting first-order ferrimagnetic ordering near 32 K - synthesized by high-energy ball-milling. It is found that, in these nanocrystallites, Co exhibits ferromagnetic order at room temperature as inferred from the magnetization data. However, the magnetic transition temperature for Er sublattice remains essentially unaffected as though the (Er)4f-Co(3d) coupling is weak on Er magnetism. The net magnetic moment as measured at high fields, sat at 120 kOe, is significantly reduced with respect to that for the bulk in the ferrimagnetically ordered state and possible reasons are outlined. We have also compared the magnetocaloric behavior for the bulk and the nano particles.

We show that the asymptotic equivalent of every eigenvalue of the pencil can be determined generically from the asymptotic equivalents of the coefficients of the pencil. The generic leading exponents of the eigenvalues are the "eigenvalues" of a min-plus matrix pencil. The leading coefficients of the eigenvalues are the eigenvalues of auxiliary matrix pencils, constructed from certain optimal assignment problems.
