Abstract: The Experimental Cavern North 3 (ECN3) is an underground experimental cavern on the CERN Prévessin site. ECN3 currently hosts the NA62 experiment, with a physics programme devoted to rare kaon decays and searches of hidden particles approved until Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). Several options are proposed on the longer term in order to make best use of the worldwide unique potential of the high-intensity… ▽ More

A Long-Baseline Atom Interferometer at CERN: Conceptual Feasibility Study

    Authors: G. Arduini, L. Badurina, K. Balazs, C. Baynham, O. Buchmueller, M. Buzio, S. Calatroni, J. -P. Corso, J. Ellis, Ch. Gaignant, M. Guinchard, T. Hakulinen, R. Hobson, A. Infantino, D. Lafarge, R. Langlois, C. Marcel, J. Mitchell, M. Parodi, M. Pentella, D. Valuch, H. Vincke

Abstract: We present results from exploratory studies, supported by the Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) Study Group, of the suitability of a CERN site and its infrastructure for hosting a vertical atom interferometer (AI) with a baseline of about 100 m. We first review the scientific motivations for such an experiment to search for ultralight dark matter and measure gravitational waves, and then outline the… ▽ More

Study of alternative locations for the SPS Beam Dump Facility

Authors: Oliver Aberle, Claudia Ahdida, Pablo Arrutia, Kincso Balazs, Johannes Bernhard, Markus Brugger, Marco Calviani, Yann Dutheil, Rui Franqueira Ximenes, Matthew Fraser, Frederic Galleazzi, Simone Gilardoni, Jean-Louis Grenard, Tina Griesemer, Richard Jacobsson, Verena Kain, Damien Lafarge, Simon Marsh, Jose Maria Martin Ruiz, Ramiro Francisco Mena Andrade, Yvon Muttoni, Angel Navascues Cornago, Pierre Ninin, John Osborne, Rebecca Ramjiawan , et al. Abstract: As part of the main focus of the BDF Working Group in 2021, this document reports on the study of alternative locations and possible optimisation that may accompany the reuse of existing facilities with the aim of significantly reducing the costs of the facility. Building on the BDF/SHiP Comprehensive Design Study (CDS), the assessment rests on the generic requirements and constraints that allow p… ▽ More

Abstract: High energy collisions at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produce a large number of particles along the beam collision axis, outside of the acceptance of existing LHC experiments. The proposed Forward Physics Facility (FPF), to be located several hundred meters from the ATLAS interaction point and shielded by concrete and rock, will host a suite of experiments to probe Standard Mod… ▽ More

Abstract: The Forward Physics Facility (FPF) is a proposal to create a cavern with the space and infrastructure to support a suite of far-forward experiments at the Large Hadron Collider during the High Luminosity era. Located along the beam collision axis and shielded from the interaction point by at least 100 m of concrete and rock, the FPF will house experiments that will detect particles outside the acc… ▽ More

  6. Effects of Dirac sea polarization on hadronic properties - A chiral SU(3) approach

    Authors: A. Mishra, K. Balazs, D. Zschiesche, S. Schramm, H. Stöcker, W. Greiner

Abstract: The effect of vacuum fluctuations on the in-medium hadronic properties is investigated using a chiral SU(3) model in the nonlinear realization. The effect of the baryon Dirac sea is seen to modify hadronic properties and in contrast to a calculation in mean field approximation it is seen to give rise to a significant drop of the vector meson masses in hot and dense matter. This effect is taken i… ▽ More

  7. Quantum equivalence of sigma models related by non Abelian Duality Transformations

    Authors: L. K. Balázs, J. Balog, P. Forgács, N. Mohammedi, L. Palla, J. Schnittger

Abstract: Coupling constant renormalization is investigated in 2 dimensional sigma models related by non Abelian duality transformations. In this respect it is shown that in the one loop order of perturbation theory the duals of a one parameter family of models, interpolating between the SU(2) principal model and the O(3) sigma model, exhibit the same behaviour as the original models. For the O(3) model a… ▽ More

Comments: As a result of the collaboration of new authors the previously overlooked gauge contribution is inserted into eq.(43) changing not so much the formulae as part of the conclusion: for the models considered non Abelian duality is OK in one loop
