Regular inclusions of simple unital $C^*$-algebras
Abstract: We prove that an inclusion $\mathcal{B} \subset \mathcal{A}$ of simple unital $C^*$-algebras with a finite-index conditional expectation is regular if and only if there exists a finite group $G$ that admits a cocycle action $(α,σ)$ on the intermediate $C^*$-subalgebra $\mathcal{C}$ generated by $\mathcal{B}$ and its centralizer $\mathcal{C}_\mathcal{A}(\mathcal{B})$ such that $\mathcal{B}$ is oute… ▽ More

Von Neumann entropy of the angle operator between a pair of intermediate subalgebras
Abstract: Given a pair of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of a unital inclusion of simple $C^*$-algebras with a conditional expectation of finite Watatani index, we discuss the corresponding angle operator and its Fourier transform. We provide a calculable formula for the von Neumann entropy of the (Fourier) dual angle operator for a large class of quadruple of simple $C^*$-algebras.

Inner conjugate pair of Hadamard subfactors and vertex model
Abstract: We show that any two Hadamard subfactors arising from a pair of distinct complex Hadamard matrices of order 3 are either equal or inner conjugate via a unitary in the relative commutant of their intersection. Moreover, when the Hadamard subfactors are not equal, we prove the factoriality of their intersection, and quite interestingly, it turns out to be a vertex model subfactor. We compute the fir… ▽ More

On Pimsner-Popa orthonormal basis and Popa's relative dimension of projections
Abstract: We show that any depth 2 subfactor with a simple first relative commutant has a unitary orthonormal basis. As a pleasant consequence, we produce new elements in the set of Popa's relative dimension of projections for such subfactors. We also construct infinitely many new elements in the set of relative dimension of projections for subfactors arising from complex Hadamard matrices and bi-unitary ma… ▽ More

A few remarks on intermediate subalgebras of an inclusion of $C^*$-algebras
Abstract: In this short note, we prove that the angle between intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of an inclusion of simple $C^*$-algebras with finite Watatani index is stable. The notion of angle is instrumental in providing a bound for the cardinality of the lattice of intermediate subalgebras for an irreducible inclusion of simple $C^*$-algebras. We improve the existing upper bound for the cardinality of this… ▽ More

Relative position between a pair of spin model subfactors
Abstract: Jones proposed the study of two subfactors of a $II_1$ factor as a quantization of two closed subspaces in a Hilbert space. The Pimsner-Popa probabilistic constant, Sano-Watatani angle, interior and exterior angle, and Connes-Størmer relative entropy (along with a slight variant of it) are a few key invariants for pair of subfactors that analyze their relative position. In practice, however, the e… ▽ More

Fourier theoretic inequalities for inclusion of simple C*-algebras
Abstract: This paper originates from a naive attempt to establish various non-commutative Fourier theoretic inequalities for an inclusion of simple C*-algebras equipped with a conditional expectation of index-finite type. In this setting, we discuss the Hausdorff-Young inequality and Young's inequality. As a consequence, we prove the Hirschman-Beckner uncertainty principle and Donoho-Stark uncertainty princ… ▽ More

A short note on relative entropy for a pair of intermediate subfactors
Abstract: Given a quadruple of finite index subfactors we explicitly compute the Pimsner-Popa probabilistic constant for the pair of intermediate subfactors and relate it with the corresponding Connes-Størmer relative entropy between them. This generalizes an old result of Pimsner and Popa.

A few remarks on Pimsner-Popa bases and regular subfactors of depth 2
Abstract: We prove that a finite index regular inclusion of $II_1$-factors with commutative first relative commutant is always a crossed product subfactor with respect to a minimal action of a biconnected weak Kac algebra. Prior to this, we prove that every finite index inclusion of $II_1$-factors which is of depth $2$ and has simple first relative commutant (respectively, is regular and has commutative or… ▽ More

Lattice of intermediate subalgebras
Abstract: Analogous to subfactor theory, employing Watatani's notions of index and $C^*$-basic construction of certain inclusions of $C^*$-algebras, (a) we develop a Fourier theory (consisting of Fourier transforms, rotation maps and shift operators) on the relative commutants of any inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras with finite Watatani index, and (b) we introduce the notions of interior and exteri… ▽ More

Commuting squares and planar subalgebras
Abstract: We show a close relationship between non-degenerate smooth commuting squares of $II_1$-factors with all inclusions of finite index and inclusions of subfactor planar algebras by showing that each leads to a construction of the other. One direction of this uses the Guionnet-Jones-Shlyakhtenko construction.

A note on irreducible quadrilaterals of $II_1$ factors
Abstract: Given any finite index quadrilateral $(N, P, Q, M)$ of $II_1$-factors, the notions of interior and exterior angles between $P$ and $Q$ were introduced in \cite{BDLR2017}. We determine the possible values of these angles when the quadrilateral is irreducible and the subfactors $N \subset P$ and $N \subset Q$ are both regular in terms of the cardinalities of the Weyl groups of the intermediate subfa… ▽ More

An angle between intermediate subfactors and its rigidity
Abstract: We introduce a new notion of angle between intermediate subfactors and prove various interesting properties of the angle and relate it with the Jones' index. We prove a uniform 60 to 90 degree bound for the angle between minimal intermediate subfactors of a finite index irreducible subfactor. From this rigidity we can bound the number of minimal (or maximal) intermediate subfactors by the kissing… ▽ More

Intermediate planar algebra revisited
Abstract: In this paper, we explicitly work out the subfactor planar algebra $P^{(N \subset Q)}$ for an intermediate subfactor $N \subset Q \subset M$ of an irreducible subfactor $N \subset M$ of finite index. Abstract: In this paper we examine bases for finite index inclusion of $II_1$ factors and connected inclusion of finite dimensional $C^*$- algebras. These bases behave nicely with respect to basic construction towers. As applications we have studied automorphisms of the hyperfinite $II_1$ factor $R$ which are `compatible with respect to the Jones' tower of finite dimensional $C^*$-algebras'.
