Abstract:
In this article, we consider joint returns to zero of $n$ Bessel processes ($n\geq 2$): our main goal is to estimate the probability that they avoid having joint returns to zero for a long time. More precisely, considering $n$ independent Bessel processes $(X_t^{(i)})_{1\leq i \leq n}$ of dimension $δ\in (0,1)$, we are interested in the first joint return to zero of any two of them: \[ H_n := \inf…

More precisely, considering $n$ independent Bessel processes $(X_t^{(i)})_{1\leq i \leq n}$ of dimension $δ\in (0,1)$, we are interested in the first joint return to zero of any two of them: \[ H_n := \inf\big\{ t>0, \exists 1\leq i <j \leq n \text{ such that } X_t^{(i)} = X_t^{(j)} =0 \big\} \,. \] We prove the existence of a persistence exponent $θ_n$ such that $\mathbb{P}(H_n>t) = t^{-θ_n+o(1)}$ as $t\to\infty$, and we provide some non-trivial bounds on $θ_n$. In particular, when $n=3$, we show that $2(1-δ)\leq θ_3 \leq 2 (1-δ) + f(δ)$ for some (explicit) function $f(δ)$ with $\sup_{[0,1]} f(δ) \approx 0.079$.

In this article, we study a finite horizon linear-quadratic stochastic control problem for Brownian particles, where the cost functions depend on the state and the occupation measure of the particles. To address this problem, we develop an Itô formula for the flow of occupation measure, which enables us to derive the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. Then, thanks to a Feynman-Kac formula and the Boué-Dupuis formula, we construct an optimal strategy and an optimal trajectory. Finally, we illustrate our result when the cost-function is the volume of the sausage associated to the particles.

Abstract:
In this article, we consider additive functionals $ζ_t = \int_0^t f(X_s)\mathrm{d} s$ of a càdlàg Markov process $(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$ on $\mathbb{R}$. Under some general conditions on the process $(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$ and on the function $f$, we show that the persistence probabilities verify $\mathbb{P}(ζ_s < z \text{ for all } s\leq t ) \sim \mathcal{V}(z) ς(t) t^{-θ}$ as $t\to\infty$, for some (explici…

Under some general conditions on the process $(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$ and on the function $f$, we show that the persistence probabilities verify $\mathbb{P}(ζ_s < z \text{ for all } s\leq t ) \sim \mathcal{V}(z) ς(t) t^{-θ}$ as $t\to\infty$, for some (explicit) $\mathcal{V}(\cdot)$, some slowly varying function $ς(\cdot)$ and some $θ\in (0,1)$. This extends results in the literature, which mostly focused on the case of a self-similar process $(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$ (such as Brownian motion or skew-Bessel process) with a homogeneous functional $f$ (namely a pure power, possibly asymmetric). In a nutshell, we are able to deal with processes which are only asymptotically self-similar and functionals which are only asymptotically homogeneous. Our results rely on an excursion decomposition of $(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$, together with a Wiener--Hopf decomposition of an auxiliary (bivariate) Lévy process, with a probabilistic point of view. This provides an interpretation for the asymptotic behavior of the persistence probabilities, and in particular for the exponent $θ$, which we write as $θ= ρβ$, with $β$ the scaling exponent of the local time of $(X_{t})_{t\geq 0}$ at level $0$ and $ρ$ the (asymptotic) positivity parameter of the auxiliary Lévy process.

We give a short proof of this result when considering sums of random variables that are only assumed exchangeable and sign-invariant. We then apply this result to the study of persistence probabilities of (symmetric) additive functionals of Markov chains, which can be seen as a natural generalization of integrated random walks.

When it hits the boundary $x=0$, the particle restarts with a random strictly positive velocity. We show that the properly rescaled position process converges weakly to a stable process reflected on its infimum. From a P.D.E. point of view, the time-marginals of $(X_t, V_t)_{t\geq0}$ solve a kinetic Fokker-Planck equation on $(0,\infty)\times\mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{R}$ with diffusive boundary conditions. Properly rescaled, the space-marginal converges to the solution of some fractional heat equation on $(0,\infty)\times\mathbb{R}_+$.

Stable limit theorems for additive functionals of one-dimensional diffusion processes

Abstract:
We consider a positive recurrent one-dimensional diffusion process with continuous coefficients and we establish stable central limit theorems for a certain type of additive functionals of this diffusion. In other words we find some explicit conditions on the additive functional so that its fluctuations behave like some $α$-stable process in large time for $α\in(0,2]$.

Negative capacitance at the low-frequency domain and inverted hysteresis are familiar features in perovskite solar cells, where the origin is still under discussion. Here we use Impedance Spectroscopy to analyse these responses in methylammonium lead bromide cells treated with lithium cation at the electron selective layer/perovskite interface and in iodide devices exposed to different relative humidity conditions. Employing the Surface Polarization Model, we obtain a time constant associated to the kinetics of the interaction of ions/vacancies with the surface, τkin, in the range of 10^0 - 10^2 s for all the cases exhibiting both features. These interactions lead to a decrease in the overall recombination resistance, modifying the low-frequency perovskite response and yielding to a flattening of the cyclic voltammetry. As consequence of these results we find that that negative capacitance and inverted hysteresis lead to a decrease in the fill factor and photovoltage values.
