The twisted kagome family comprises a spectrum of configurations, that can be realized through the sweep of a single configurational degree of freedom known as twist angle. Recently, it has been shown that certain pairs of configurations along this sweep are linked by duality transformations and display matching phonon spectra. In this work, we introduce an inter-cell connection system that spreads the lattice in the dimension orthogonal to the tessellation plane. The resulting 3D character of the lattice allows us to sweep the entirety of the twist angle spectrum, including all the compact configurations featuring overlap** triangles that, in a strictly 2D space, are forbidden. Duality provides precious guidance in interpreting the availability of floppy mechanisms arising in the compact configurations through the one-to-one correspondence with their expanded counterparts. Our focus is on the compact configuration corresponding to a null twist angle, where the lattice degenerates to a chain. From the perspective of the chain, several of the local connections between neighboring lattice cells play the role of non-local long-range interactions between cells of the chain. We demonstrate experimentally some peculiar behavior that results from such non-locality, including a selective activation of floppy sequences that is informed by the direction of loading.

So-called fragile topological states of matter challenge our conventional notion of topology by lacking the robustness typically associated with topological protection, thereby displaying elusive manifestations that are difficult to harness for wave control. In this work, we leverage the recent discovery of fragile topological states in special classes of structural kagome lattices to document the availability of domain wall elastic wave modes that are directly traceable to fragile topology and, yet, exhibit remarkably robust signatures. We design twisted kagome bi-domains comprising two topologically distinct sublattices - one trivial and the other fragile topological - sharing a common bandgap and meeting at a domain wall. The two phases are achieved via carefully engineered surface cut patterns that modify the band landscape of the underlying lattices in complementary fashions, leading to dichotomous irreps landscapes. Under these circumstances, a domain wall-bound mode emerges within the shared bandgap and displays remarkable robustness against domain wall orientation and defects. We corroborate these findings via k.p Hamiltonian and Jackiw-Rabbi analysis and validate them experimentally through laser vibrometry tests on a prototype endowed with water jet-induced perforation patterns.

Recent years have seen the discovery of systems featuring fragile topological states. These states of matter lack certain protection attributes typically associated with topology and are therefore characterized by weaker signatures that make them elusive to observe. Moreover, they are typically confined to special symmetry classes and, in general, rarely studied in the context of phononic media. In this article, we theoretically predict the emergence of fragile topological bands in the spectrum of a twisted kagome elastic lattice with three-fold rotational symmetry, in the so-called self-dual configuration. A necessary requirement is that the lattice is a structural metamaterial, in which the role of the hinges is played by elastic finite-thickness ligaments. The interplay between the edge modes appearing in the bandgaps bounding the fragile topological states is also responsible for the emergence of corner modes at selected corners of a finite hexagonal domain, which qualifies the lattice as a second-order topological insulator. We demonstrate our findings through a series of experiments via 3D Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometry conducted on a physical prototype. The selected configuration stands out for its remarkable geometric simplicity and ease of physical implementation in the panorama of dynamical systems exhibiting fragile topology.

A thermodynamic limit chain of spin-1/2 particles with XX and three-spin interactions (TSI) is considered. Using the fermionization technique, the Hamiltonian of the chain with periodic boundary conditions is exactly diagonalized. In the ground-state phase diagram of the chain system, a quantum critical point separates the Luttinger liquid and chiral phases. Selecting one-spin as an open quantum system, the rest of the spins play the role of its environment. By choosing different initial states, we studied the dynamics of the entanglement between the open quantum system and its environment. In the initial state, the state of the open quantum system is a superposition of up and down states and the environment is polarized. The revival of the entanglement is observed in the whole range of interactions as an indicator of non-Markovian dynamics. Our exact results revealed that non-Markovian behavior is independent of the initial state. By tuning the initial state, the open quantum system will be completely entangled with the environment at a special time called entanglement-time, tE. The value of the mentioned entanglement-time decreased by increasing TSI. The signature of a quantum critical point is confirmed by investigating the long-time average of the entanglement and using the trace-distance as a witness of non-Markovianity.

Over the past decade there has been a significant growth in bioinformatics databases, tools and resources. Although, bioinformatics is becoming more specific, increasing the number of bioinformatics-wares has made it difficult for researchers to find the most appropriate databases, tools or methods which match their needs. Our coordinated effort has been planned to establish a reference website in Bioinformatics as a public repository of tools, databases, directories and resources annotated with contextual information and organized by functional relevance. Within the first phase of BioInfoBase development, 22 experts in different fields of molecular biology contributed and more than 2500 records were registered, which are increasing daily. For each record submitted to the database of website almost all related data (40 features) has been extracted. These include information from the biological category and subcategory to the scientific article and developer information. Searching the query keyword(s) returns links containing the entered keyword(s) found within the different features of the records with more weights on the title, abstract and application fields. The search results simply provide the users with the most informative features of the records to select the most suitable ones. The usefulness of the returned results is ranked according to the matching score based on the Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) methods. Therefore, this search engine will screen a comprehensive index of bioinformatics tools, databases and resources and provide the best suited records (links) to the researchers need. The BioInfoBase resource is available at www.bioinfobase.info.
