Measurement of the branching fraction ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell)$ with early Belle II data

Abstract: We measure the branching fractions for the decays $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} e^{-} \barν_e$ and $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} μ^{-} \barν_μ$ using $8.70 \pm 0.09~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. Candidate signal decays are reconstructed with the subsequent decays $D^{*+}\to D^0 π^+$ and $D^0\to K^-π^+$. We obtain the results ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} e^{-} \barν_e)$ = $(4.55\pm0.14(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.35 (\mathrm{syst})) \%$ and ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} μ^{-} \barν_μ)$ = $(4.84\pm 0.13(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.37(\mathrm{syst})) \%$, in agreement with the world averages. The measurements serve to validate the full chain of detector operation and calibration, data collection and processing, and production of physics results in the case of semileptonic $B$-meson decays. △ Less

Search for an invisibly decaying $Z^{\prime}$ boson at Belle II in $e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (e^{\pm} μ^{\mp})$ plus missing energy final states

Abstract: Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the $Z^{\prime}$. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a $Z^{\prime}$ in the process $e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- Z^{\prime}$ and of a lepton-flavor-violating $Z^{\prime}$ in… ▽ More Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the $Z^{\prime}$. In both cases the share by Solar PV is gradually increased and the effect on the length of CCT is observed. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations. △ Less

This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theor… ▽ More We present the physics program of the Belle II experiment, located on the intensity frontier SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Belle II collected its first collisions in 2018, and is expected to operate for the next decade. It is anticipated to collect 50/ab of collision data over its lifetime. This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theory interface platform (B2TiP), an effort that commenced in 2014. The aim of B2TiP was to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, tau, quarkonium, electroweak precision measurements and dark sector searches. It is composed of nine working groups (WGs), which are coordinated by teams of theorist and experimentalists conveners: Semileptonic and leptonic B decays, Radiative and Electroweak penguins, phi_1 and phi_2 (time-dependent CP violation) measurements, phi_3 measurements, Charmless hadronic B decay, Charm, Quarkonium(like), tau and low-multiplicity processes, new physics and global fit analyses. This book highlights "golden- and silver-channels", i.e. those that would have the highest potential impact in the field. Theorists scrutinised the role of those measurements and estimated the respective theoretical uncertainties, achievable now as well as prospects for the future. Experimentalists investigated the expected improvements with the large dataset expected from Belle II, taking into account improved performance from the upgraded detector. △ Less

Was the cosmic ray burst detected by the GRAPES-3 on 22 June 2015 caused by transient weakening of geomagnetic field or by an interplanetary anisotropy?

This burst had occurred during a G4-class geomagnetic storm (storm) with a delay of $\frac{1}{2}$h relative to the coronal mass ejection (CME) of 22 June 2015 (Mohanty et al., 2016). However, recently a group interpreted the occurrence of the same burst in a subset of 31 neutron monitors (NMs) to have been the result of an anisotropy in interplanetary space (Evenson et al., 2017) in contrast to the claim in (Mohanty et al., 2016). A new analysis of the GRAPES-3 data with a fine 10.6$^{\circ}$ angular segmentation shows the speculation of interplanetary anisotropy to be incorrect, and offers a possible explanation of the NM observations. The observed 28 minutes (min) delay of the burst relative to the CME can be explained by the movement of the reconnection front from the bow shock to the surface of Earth at an average speed of 35 km/s, much lower than the CME speed of 700 km/s. This measurement may provide a more accurate estimate of the start of the storm. △ Less

We report the most precise measurements to date of the relative branching fractions of the $Ω_c^0$ into $Ω^-π^+π^0$, $Ω^-π^+π^-π^+$, $Ξ^-K^-π^+π^+$, and $Ξ^0K^-π^+$, as well as the first measurements of the branching fractions of the $Ω_c^0$ into $Ξ^-\bar{K}^0π^+$, $Ξ^0\bar{K}^0$, and $Λ\bar{K}^0\bar{K}^0$, all with respect to the $Ω^-π^+$ decay. Abstract: We search for $CP$ violation in the charged charm meson decay $D^{+}\toπ^{+}π^{0}$, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $\rm 921~fb^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. Abstract: Using the entire Belle data sample of 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions, we present the results of a study of excited $Ω_c$ charmed baryons in the decay mode $Ξ_c^+K^-$. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages. △ Less

The relative production ratio of $B_s^*\bar{B}_s^*$, $B_s\bar{B}_s^{*}$, and $B_s\bar{B}_s$ final states at $\sqrt{s}=10.866$ GeV is measured to be $7:$ $0.856\pm0.106(stat.)\pm0.053(syst.):$ $0.645\pm0.094(stat.)^{+0.030}_{-0.033}(syst.)$. Our measurements not only improve the previous measurements by the CLEO Collaboration but also lead to first observations in many new modes. One $B$ meson in the event is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode while the other, on the signal side, is partially reconstructed from a charged lepton and either a $D^+$ or $D^0$ meson in a total of 23 hadronic decay modes. The isospin-averaged branching fraction of the decay $B\to D\ellν_\ell$ is found to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^- \ell^+ ν_{\ell})=(2.31\pm 0.03(\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.11(\mathrm{syst}))\%$. Analyzing the differential decay rate as a function of the hadronic recoil with the parameterization of Caprini, Lelouch and Neubert and using the form-factor prediction $\mathcal{G}(1)=1.0541\pm 0.0083$ calculated by FNAL/MILC, we obtain $η_\mathrm{EW}|V_{cb}|=(40.12\pm 1.34)\times 10^{-3}$, where $η_\mathrm{EW}$ is the electroweak correction factor. Alternatively, assuming the model-independent form-factor parameterization of Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed and using lattice QCD data from the FNAL/MILC and HPQCD collaborations, we find $η_\mathrm{EW}|V_{cb}|=(41.10 \pm 1.14)\times 10^{-3}$. △ Less

Abstract: We present an extraction of azimuthal correlations between two pairs of charged pions detected in opposite jets from electron-positron annihilation. These correlations may arise from the dependence of the di-pion fragmentation on the polarization of the parent quark in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow q \bar{q}$. Lymphocyte recovery and clinical outcomes in 41 allograft recipients conditioned using anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) and 4.5 Gray total-body-irradiation were studied to determine if immune reconstitution could be described as a dynamical system. Survival, relapse, and graft vs. host disease (GVH… ▽ More Systems that evolve over time and follow mathematical laws as they do so, are called dynamical systems. Lymphocyte recovery and clinical outcomes in 41 allograft recipients conditioned using anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) and 4.5 Gray total-body-irradiation were studied to determine if immune reconstitution could be described as a dynamical system. Survival, relapse, and graft vs. host disease (GVHD) were not significantly different in two cohorts of patients receiving different doses of ATG. However, donor-derived CD3+ (ddCD3) cell reconstitution was superior in the lower ATG dose cohort, and there were fewer instances of donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI). Lymphoid recovery was plotted in each individual over time and demonstrated one of three sigmoid growth patterns; Pattern A (n=15), had rapid growth with high lymphocyte counts, pattern B (n=14), slower growth with intermediate recovery and pattern C, poor lymphocyte reconstitution (n=10). There was a significant association between lymphocyte recovery patterns and both the rate of change of ddCD3 at day 30 post-SCT and the clinical outcomes. GVHD was observed more frequently with pattern A; relapse and DLI more so with pattern C, with a consequent survival advantage in patients with patterns A and B. We conclude that evaluating immune reconstitution following SCT as a dynamical system may differentiate patients at risk of adverse outcomes and allow early intervention to modulate that risk. △ Less

The $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrowφγ$ branching fraction is measured to be… ▽ More We search for the decay $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrowγγ$ and measure the branching fraction for $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrowφγ$ using 121.4~$\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(\mathrm{5}S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrowφγ$ branching fraction is measured to be $(3.6 \pm 0.5 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.3 (\mathrm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 (f_{s})) \times 10^{-5}$, where $f_{s}$ is the fraction of $B_{s}^{(*)}\bar{B}_{s}^{(*)}$ in $b\bar{b}$ events. Our result is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions as well as with a recent measurement from LHCb. We observe no statistically significant signal for the decay $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrowγγ$ and set a $90\%$ confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction at $ 3.1 \times 10^{-6}$. Measurement of Branching Fractions and CP Asymmetries in B -> wK Decays and First Evidence of CP Violation in B0 -> wKS0

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fractions and charge-parity-(CP-) violating parameters in B -> omega K decays. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 x 10^(6) BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain the branching fractions B(B0 -> omega K0) = (4.5 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst… ▽ More We present a measurement of the branching fractions and charge-parity-(CP-) violating parameters in B -> omega K decays. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 x 10^(6) BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain the branching fractions B(B0 -> omega K0) = (4.5 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) x 10^(-6), B(B- -> omega K-) = (6.8 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.4 (syst)) x 10^(-6), which are in agreement with their respective current world averages. For the CP violating parameters, we obtain A(B0 -> omega KS) = -0.36 +/- 0.19 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst), S(B0 -> omega KS) = +0.91 +/- 0.32 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst), A(B- -> omega K-) = -0.03 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.01 syst), where A and S represent the direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry, respectively. We find no evidence of CP violation in the decay channel B-->omega K-; however, we obtain the first evidence of CP violation in the B0 -> omega KS decay channel at the level of 3.1 standard deviations. △ Less

First Observation of the Zb0(10610) in a Dalitz Analysis of Y(5S) -> Y(nS) pi0 pi0

The neutral partner of the Zb+-(10610), the Zb0(10610) decaying to Y(2,3S) pi0, is observed for the first time with a 6.5 sigma significance using a Dalitz analysis of Y(5S) -> Y(2,3S) pi0 pi0 decays. Experimental constraints on the spin and parity of the Z(4430)+
