Abstract:
The full family of discrete logistic maps has been widely studied both as a canonical example of the period-doubling route to chaos, and as a model of natural processes. In this paper we present a study of the stochastic process described by iterations of the logistic map with a random parameter. In addition to bringing together previously known results, we present a proof that the unique invarian…

In addition to bringing together previously known results, we present a proof that the unique invariant measure of the process in the chaotic regime is asymptotically stable.

This paper describes a predictive control method to search for unstable periodic orbits of the generalized tent map. The invariant set containing periodic orbits is a repelling set with a complicated Cantor-like structure. Therefore, a simple local stabilization of the orbit may not be enough to find a periodic orbit, due to the small measure of the basin of attraction. It is shown that for certain values of the control parameter, both the local behavior and the global behavior of solutions change in the controlled system; in particular, the invariant set enlarges to become an interval or the entire real axis. The computational particularities of using the control system are considered, and necessary conditions for the orbit to be periodic are given. The question of local asymptotic stability of subcycles of the controlled system's stable cycles is fully investigated, and some statistical properties of the subset of the classical Cantor middle thirds set that is determined by the periodic points of the generalized tent map are described.

It is shown that producing PrBaCo2O5 and Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3 nanoparticle by a scalable synthesis method leads to high mass activities for the oxygen evolution reaction with outstanding improvements by 10 and 50 times, respectively, compared to those prepared via the state of the art synthesis method. Here, detailed comparisons at both laboratory and industrial scales show that Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3 appears to be the most active and stable perovskite catalyst under alkaline conditions, while PrBaCo2O6 reveals thermodynamic instability described by the density functional theory based Pourbaix diagrams highlighting cation dissolution under oxygen evolution conditions. Operando Xray absorption spectroscopy is used in parallel to monitor electronic and structural changes of the catalysts during oxygen evolution reaction. The exceptional BSCF functional stability can be correlated to its thermodynamic metastability under oxygen evolution conditions as highlighted by Pourbaix diagram analysis. BSCF is able to dynamically self reconstruct its surface, leading to formation of Co based oxyhydroxide layers while retaining its structural stability. Differently, PBCO demonstrates a high initial oxygen evolution reaction activity while it undergoes a degradation process considering its thermodynamic instability under oxygen evolution conditions as anticipated by its Pourbaix diagram. Overall, this work demonstrates a synergetic approach of using both experimental and theoretical studies to understand the behavior of perovskite catalysts.

Abstract:
Precise measurements of the branching ratios for the flavor-changing neutral current decays $K\toπν\barν$ can provide unique constraints on CKM unitarity and, potentially, evidence for new physics. It is important to measure both decay modes, $K^+\toπ^+ν\barν$ and $K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$, since different new physics models affect the rates for each channel differently. The goal of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is to measure the BR for the charged channel to within 10%. For the neutral channel, the BR has never been measured. We are designing the KLEVER experiment to measure BR($K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$) to $\sim$20% using a high-energy neutral beam at the CERN SPS starting in LHC Run 4. The boost from the high-energy beam facilitates the rejection of background channels such as $K_L\toπ^0π^0$ by detection of the additional photons in the final state. On the other hand, the layout poses particular challenges for the design of the small-angle vetoes, which must reject photons from $K_L$ decays esca** through the beam exit amidst an intense background from soft photons and neutrons in the beam. Background from $Λ\to nπ^0$ decays in the beam must also be kept under control. We present findings from our design studies for the beamline and experiment, with an emphasis on the challenges faced and the potential sensitivity for the measurement of BR($K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$).

Together, the two systems give a skew product flow. We first examine limit behavior and recurrence in our continuous time extension. We then consider analogous limit and recurrence concepts for a skew product flow, and the behavior on the Euclidean space that results.

The term "hybrid system" refers to a continuous time dynamical system that undergoes Markovian perturbations at discrete time intervals. In this paper, we find that under the right formulation, a hybrid system can be treated as a dynamical system on a compact space. This allows one to study its limit sets. We examine the Morse decompositions of hybrid systems, find a sufficient condition for the existence of a non-trivial Morse decomposition, and study the Morse sets of such a decomposition. Finally, we consider the case in which the Markovian perturbations are small, showing that trajectories in a hybrid system with small perturbations behave similarly to those of the unperturbed dynamical system.
