Measurement of the integrated luminosity of data samples collected during 2019-2022 by the Belle II experiment

Abstract: A series of data samples was collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider from March 2019 to June 2022. We determine the integrated luminosities of these data samples using three distinct methodologies involving Bhabha ($e^+e^- \to e^+e^-(nγ)$), digamma ($e^+e^- \to γγ(nγ)$), and dimuon ($e^+e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (nγ)$) events. The total integrated luminosity obtained with Bhabha, digamma, and dimuon events is (426.52 $\pm$ 0.03 $\pm$ 2.48)~fb$^{-1}$, (427.32 $\pm$ 0.03 $\pm$ 2.56)~fb$^{-1}$, and (424.84 $\pm$ 0.04 $\pm$ 3.88)~fb$^{-1}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted… ▽ More We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of $m(K^-K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ and $m(D^{(*)}K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the $K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity $J^P=1^-$ for the $K^-K_S^0$ systems and $J^P= 1^+$ for the $K^-K^{*0}$ systems. By multiplying by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$, we obtain the following absolute branching fraction results $(6.9 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.5 ({\rm syst}) \pm 1.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, $(1.6 \pm 0.2 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, and $(1.2 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.1 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, for $Ξ_{c}^{0}$ decays to $Ξ^{0}π^{0}$, $Ξ^{0}η$, and $Ξ^{0}η^{\prime}$ final states, respectively. The third errors are from the uncertainty on ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$. The asymmetry parameter for $Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}$ is measured to be $α(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}) = -0.90\pm0.15({\rm stat})\pm0.23({\rm syst})$. △ Less

The azimuthal correlation between the leading jet and the scattered lepton in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Abstract: The azimuthal correlation angle, $Δφ$, between the scattered lepton and the leading jet in deep inelastic $e^{\pm}p$ scattering at HERA has been studied using data collected with the ZEUS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 318 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $326 \;\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$. A measurement of jet cross sections in the laboratory frame was made in a fiducial region corresponding to photon virtuality $10 \;\mathrm{GeV}^2 < Q^2 < 350 \;\mathrm{GeV}^2$, inelasticity $0.04 < y < 0.7$, outgoing lepton energy $E_e > 10 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, lepton polar angle $140^\circ < θ_e < 180^\circ$, jet transverse momentum $2.5 \;\mathrm{GeV} < p_\mathrm{T,jet} < 30 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, and jet pseudorapidity $-1.5 < η_\mathrm{jet} < 1.8$. Jets were reconstructed using the $k_\mathrm{T}$ algorithm with the radius parameter $R = 1$. The leading jet in an event is defined as the jet that carries the highest $p_\mathrm{T,jet}$. Differential cross sections, $dσ/dΔφ$, were measured as a function of the azimuthal correlation angle in various ranges of leading-jet transverse momentum, photon virtuality and jet multiplicity. Perturbative calculations at $\mathcal{O}(α_{s}^2)$ accuracy successfully describe the data within the fiducial region, although a lower level of agreement is observed near $Δφ\rightarrow π$ for events with high jet multiplicity, due to limitations of the perturbative approach in describing soft phenomena in QCD. The data are equally well described by Monte Carlo predictions that supplement leading-order matrix elements with parton showering. △ Less

Search for the decay $B^{0}\toγγ$ using Belle and Belle II data

Abstract: We report the result of a search for the rare decay $B^{0} \to γγ$ using a combined dataset of $753\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and $387\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the $\rm Υ(4S)$ resonance produced in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions. Using an optimise… ▽ More We present a measurement of the ratio $R_μ= \mathcal{B}(τ^-\to μ^-\barν_μν_τ) / \mathcal{B}(τ^-\to e^-\barν_eν_τ)$ of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$ of the $τ$ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, $R_μ= 0.9675 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0036$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the $W$ boson in $τ$ decays of $0.9974 \pm 0.0019$, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity. △ Less

Determination of the CKM angle $φ_{3}$ from a combination of Belle and Belle II results

Abstract: We present the results of a search for the $b \to d\ell^+\ell^-$ flavor-changing neutral-current rare decays $B^{+, 0} \to (η, ω, π^{+,0}, ρ^{+, 0}) e^+e^-$ and $B^{+, 0} \to (η, ω, π^{0}, ρ^{+}) μ^+μ^-$ using a $711$ fb$^{-1}$ data sample that contains $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ events. The data were collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy… ▽ More We present the results of a search for the $b \to d\ell^+\ell^-$ flavor-changing neutral-current rare decays $B^{+, 0} \to (η, ω, π^{+,0}, ρ^{+, 0}) e^+e^-$ and $B^{+, 0} \to (η, ω, π^{0}, ρ^{+}) μ^+μ^-$ using a $711$ fb$^{-1}$ data sample that contains $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ events. The data were collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We find no evidence for signal and set upper limits on branching fractions at the $90\%$ confidence level in the range $(3.8 - 47) \times 10^{-8}$ depending on the decay channel. The obtained limits are the world's best results. This is the first search for the channels $B^{+, 0} \to (ω, ρ^{+,0}) e^+e^-$ and $B^{+, 0} \to (ω, ρ^{+})μ^+μ^-$. △ Less

Abstract: We report a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extract… ▽ More We report a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0γ$ events, which involve a $π^0 \to γγ$ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62-1.80 GeV energy range yield $ a_μ^{3π} = [48.91 \pm 0.23~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.07~(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-10} $ for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by $2.5$ standard deviations from the most precise current determination. △ Less

The analysis probes two different models of $X$ beyond the standard model: a $Z^{\prime}$ vector boson in the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and a muonphilic scalar. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at the 90$\%$ confidence level on the products of cross section and branching fraction for these processes, ranging from 0.046 fb to 0.97 fb for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and from 0.055 fb to 1.3 fb for the muonphilic scalar model. For masses below 6 GeV/$c^{2}$, the corresponding constraints on the couplings of these processes to the standard model range from 0.0008 to 0.039 for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and from 0.0018 to 0.040 for the muonphilic scalar model. In this paper, we present the results of the first do** test ever performed in a kiloton-scale LArTPC. From February to May 2020, we carried out this special run in the single-phase DUNE Far Detector prototype (ProtoDUNE-SP) at CERN, featuring 770 t of total liquid argon mass with 410 t of fiducial mass. The goal of the run was to measure the light and charge response of the detector to the addition of xenon, up to a concentration of 18.8 ppm. The main purpose was to test the possibility for reduction of non-uniformities in light collection, caused by deployment of photon detectors only within the anode planes. Light collection was analysed as a function of the xenon concentration, by using the pre-existing photon detection system (PDS) of ProtoDUNE-SP and an additional smaller set-up installed specifically for this run. In this paper we first summarize our current understanding of the argon-xenon energy transfer process and the impact of the presence of nitrogen in argon with and without xenon dopant. We then describe the key elements of ProtoDUNE-SP and the injection method deployed. Two dedicated photon detectors were able to collect the light produced by xenon and the total light. The ratio of these components was measured to be about 0.65 as 18.8 ppm of xenon were injected. We performed studies of the collection efficiency as a function of the distance between tracks and light detectors, demonstrating enhanced uniformity of response for the anode-mounted PDS. Possible intermediate states in the $π^+π^-Υ(1S,2S)$ transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the $π^\mp Z_b^\pm$ or $f_0(980)Υ(nS)$ intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}Υ(nS)$ process that, combined with results from Belle, improve the precision of measurements of the $Υ(10753)$ mass and width by nearly a factor of two to $(10756.3\pm2.7\pm0.6)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(29.7\pm8.5\pm1.1)$ MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the $Υ(10753)$ resonance peak are also reported for the first time. △ Less

The dual-site experiment will employ an intense neutrino beam focused on a near and a far detector as it aims to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy and to make high-precisi… ▽ More DUNE is an international experiment dedicated to addressing some of the questions at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics, including the mystifying preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early universe. The dual-site experiment will employ an intense neutrino beam focused on a near and a far detector as it aims to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy and to make high-precision measurements of the PMNS matrix parameters, including the CP-violating phase. It will also stand ready to observe supernova neutrino bursts, and seeks to observe nucleon decay as a signature of a grand unified theory underlying the standard model. The DUNE far detector implements liquid argon time-projection chamber (LArTPC) technology, and combines the many tens-of-kiloton fiducial mass necessary for rare event searches with the sub-centimeter spatial resolution required to image those events with high precision. The addition of a photon detection system enhances physics capabilities for all DUNE physics drivers and opens prospects for further physics explorations. Given its size, the far detector will be implemented as a set of modules, with LArTPC designs that differ from one another as newer technologies arise. In the vertical drift LArTPC design, a horizontal cathode bisects the detector, creating two stacked drift volumes in which ionization charges drift towards anodes at either the top or bottom. The anodes are composed of perforated PCB layers with conductive strips, enabling reconstruction in 3D. Light-trap-style photon detection modules are placed both on the cryostat's side walls and on the central cathode where they are optically powered. This Technical Design Report describes in detail the technical implementations of each subsystem of this LArTPC that, together with the other far detector modules and the near detector, will enable DUNE to achieve its physics goals. △ Less

Evidence for $B^{+}\to K^{+}ν\barν$ decays

Abstract: We search for the rare decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ in a $362\ \rm{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use the inclusive properties of the accompanying $B$ meson in $Υ(4S) \to B\kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}{}$ events to suppress background from other decays of the signal $B$ candidate and light-quark pair production. We validate the measurement with an auxiliary analysis based on a conventional hadronic reconstruction of the accompanying $B$ meson. For background suppression, we exploit distinct signal features using machine learning methods tuned with simulated data. The signal-reconstruction efficiency and background suppression are validated through various control channels. The branching fraction is extracted in a maximum likelihood fit. Our inclusive and hadronic analyses yield consistent results for the $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ branching fraction of $\left[2.7\pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.5(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\left[1.1^{+0.9}_{-0.8}(\mathrm{stat}){}^{+0.8}_{-0.5}(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$, respectively. Combining the results, we determine the branching fraction of the decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ to be $\left[2.3 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})^{+0.5}_{-0.4}(\mathrm{syst})\right]\times 10^{-5}$, providing the first evidence for this decay at $3.5$ standard deviations. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain $387\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain $-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04$ for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations. △ Less

We obtain $|V_{cb}|$ using the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed and Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert parametrizations, and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL}=(40.57\pm 0.31 \pm 0.95\pm 0.58)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN}=(40.13 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.93\pm 0.58 )\times 10^{-3}$ with the uncertainties denoting statistical components, systematic components, and components from the lattice QCD input, respectively. The branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell)=(4.922 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.220)\%$. The ratio of branching fractions for electron and muon final states is found to be $0.998 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.020$. In addition, we determine the forward-backward angular asymmetry and the $D^{*+}$ longitudinal polarization fractions. All results are compatible with lepton-flavor universality in the Standard Model. △ Less

Measurement of jet production in deep inelastic scattering and NNLO determination of the strong coupling at ZEUS

Abstract: A new measurement of inclusive-jet cross sections in the Breit frame in neutral current deep inelastic scattering using the ZEUS detector at the HERA collider is presented. The data were taken in the years 2004 to 2007 at a centre-of-mass energy of $318\,\text{GeV}$ and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $347\,\text{pb}^{-1}$. The measured jet cross sections are compared to previous measurements and to perturbative QCD predictions. The measurement has been used in a next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD analysis to perform a simultaneous determination of parton distribution functions of the proton and the strong coupling, resulting in a value of $α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1142 \pm 0.0017~\text{(experimental/fit)}$ ${}^{+0.0006}_{-0.0007}~\text{(model/parameterisation)}$ ${}^{+0.0006}_{-0.0004}~\text{(scale)}$, whose accuracy is improved compared to similar measurements. Abstract: We report results from a study of $B^\pm \rightarrow DK^\pm$ decays followed by $D$ decaying to $CP$~eigenstates, where $D$ indicates a $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^{0}$ meson. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of $772 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of $198 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle~II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. We measure the $CP$ asymmetries to be $\mathcal{ A}_{CP +} =~(+12.5 \pm 5.8 \pm 1.4)\% $ and $\mathcal{ A}_{CP -} =~(-16.7 \pm 5.7 \pm 0.6)\%$, and the ratios of branching fractions to be $\mathcal{ R}_{CP+}=~1.164 \pm 0.081 \pm 0.036 $ and $\mathcal{ R}_{CP-} =~1.151 \pm 0.074 \pm 0.019$. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries $\mathcal{A}_{CP +}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP -}$ have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5~standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3\% confidence intervals of ($8.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<16.5^{\circ}$) or ($84.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<95.5^{\circ}$) or ($163.3^{\circ}<φ_{3}<171.5^{\circ}$) and $0.321<r_{B}<0.465$. △ Less

The data sample is collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider in 2019-2022 and contains $(387\pm 6)\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom mesons from $Υ(4S)$ resonance decays. We reconstruct $162\pm17$ signal events and extract the charge-parity ($CP$) violating parameters from a fit to the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two $B$ mesons. The measured direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries are $A=0.31\pm0.20\pm0.05$ and $S=0.54\pm0.26^{+0.06}_{-0.08}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $τ$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 fb to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/$c^2$ and for the axion-like particle model over the entire mass range. △ Less

Abstract: We measure the lifetime of the $D_s^+$ meson using a data sample of 207 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle II experiment running at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The lifetime is determined by fitting the decay-time distribution of a sample of $116\times 10^3$ $D_s^+\rightarrowφπ^+$ decays. Novel method for the identification of the production flavor of neutral charmed mesons

Abstract: We propose a new algorithm for the identification of the production flavor of neutral $D$ mesons in the Belle II experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation between the flavor of a reconstructed neutral $D$ meson (signal $D$ meson) and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the $e^+e^-\to c \bar{c}$ event. These include those originating from the decay of the other c… ▽ More We propose a new algorithm for the identification of the production flavor of neutral $D$ mesons in the Belle II experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation between the flavor of a reconstructed neutral $D$ meson (signal $D$ meson) and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the $e^+e^-\to c \bar{c}$ event. These include those originating from the decay of the other charm hadron produced in the event, as well as those possibly produced in association with the signal $D$ meson. We develop the algorithm using simulation and calibrate it in data using decay modes that identify the flavor of the decaying neutral $D$ meson. We use a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions, corresponding to $362\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected by Belle II at center-of-mass energies near the $Υ(4S)$ mass. The effective tagging efficiency in data is $(47.91 \pm 0.07 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.51 \mathrm{(syst)})\%$, independent of the neutral-$D$-meson decay mode. This charm flavor tagger will approximately double the effective sample size of many $CP$-violation and charm-mixing measurements that so far have exclusively relied on neutral $D$ mesons originating from $D^{*\pm}$ decays. While developed for Belle II, the basic principles underlying the charm flavor tagger can be used in other experiments, including those at hadron colliders. △ Less

Impact of cross-section uncertainties on supernova neutrino spectral parameter fitting in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment

A key requirement for a correct interpretation of these measurements is a good understanding of the energy-dependent total cross section $σ(E_ν)$ for charged-current $ν_e$ absorption on argon. In the context of a simulated extraction of supernova $ν_e$ spectral parameters from a toy analysis, we investigate the impact of $σ(E_ν)$ modeling uncertainties on DUNE's supernova neutrino physics sensitivity for the first time. We find that the currently large theoretical uncertainties on $σ(E_ν)$ must be substantially reduced before the $ν_e$ flux parameters can be extracted reliably: in the absence of external constraints, a measurement of the integrated neutrino luminosity with less than 10\% bias with DUNE requires $σ(E_ν)$ to be known to about 5%. The neutrino spectral shape parameters can be known to better than 10% for a 20% uncertainty on the cross-section scale, although they will be sensitive to uncertainties on the shape of $σ(E_ν)$. A direct measurement of low-energy $ν_e$-argon scattering would be invaluable for improving the theoretical precision to the needed level. △ Less

Abstract: We present the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic $B$-meson decays, $R(X_{e/μ}) = \mathcal{B}(B\to X \, e \, ν) / \mathcal{B}(B\to X \, μ\, ν)$, a precision test of electron-muon universality, using data corresponding to $189\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain $\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%$, $η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$, and $ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$. △ Less

Abstract: Lorentz and CPT symmetry in the quark sector of the Standard Model are studied in the context of an effective field theory using ZEUS $e^{\pm} p$ data. Symmetry-violating effects can lead to time-dependent oscillations of otherwise time-independent observables, including scattering cross sections. Highly-parallelized simulation of a pixelated LArTPC on a GPU

This technique is particularly suitable for the simulation of a pixelated charge readout for time projection chambers, given the large number of channels that this technology employs. This technique is particularly suitable for the simulation of a pixelated charge readout for time projection chambers, given the large number of channels that this technology employs. Here we present the first implementation of a full microphysical simulator of a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) equipped with light readout and pixelated charge readout, developed for the DUNE Near Detector. The software is implemented with an end-to-end set of GPU-optimized algorithms. The algorithms have been written in Python and translated into CUDA kernels using Numba, a just-in-time compiler for a subset of Python and NumPy instructions. The GPU implementation achieves a speed up of four orders of magnitude compared with the equivalent CPU version. The simulation of the current induced on $10^3$ pixels takes around 1 ms on the GPU, compared with approximately 10 s on the CPU. The results of the simulation are compared against data from a pixel-readout LArTPC prototype. △ Less
