On the application of Effective Field Theory to finite-volume effects in $a_μ^{\rm HVP}$
Abstract: One of the more important systematic effects affecting lattice computations of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $a_μ^{\rm HVP}$, is the distortion due to a finite spatial volume. In order to reach sub-percent precision, these effects need to be reliably estimated and corrected for, and one of the methods that has been employed for doing th… ▽ More

Abstract: The phase diagram for staggered fermions is discussed in the context of the staggered chiral Lagrangian, extending previous work on the subject. When the discretization errors are significant, there may be an Aoki-like phase for staggered fermions, where the remnant SO(4) taste symmetry is broken down to SO(3). We solve explicitly for the mass spectrum in the 3-flavor degenerate mass case and di… ▽ More

Semileptonic D->pi/K and B->pi/D decays in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD
Abstract: We present results for form factors of semileptonic decays of $D$ and $B$ mesons in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD using the MILC gauge configurations. With an improved staggered action for light quarks, we successfully reduce the systematic error from the chiral extrapolation. The results for $D$ decays are in agreement with experimental ones. The results for B decays are preliminary. Combining our res… ▽ More

Topological susceptibility with three flavors of staggered quarks
Abstract: As one test of the validity of the staggered-fermion fourth-root determinant trick, we examine the suppression of the topological susceptibility of the QCD vacuum in the limit of small quark mass. The suppression is sensitive to the number of light sea quark flavors. Our study is done in the presence of 2+1 flavors of dynamical quarks in the improved staggered fermion formulation. Variance-reduc… ▽ More

Results for light pseudoscalars from three-flavor simulations
Abstract: We compute pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants in partially quenched QCD with three dynamical flavors of improved staggered quarks. Fitting the lattice data to staggered chiral perturbation theory forms and extrapolating in quark mass and lattice spacing, we find: $f_π= 129.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 3.5$ MeV, $f_K = 156.6 \pm 1.0 \pm 3.6$ MeV, and $f_K/f_π= 1.210(4)(13)$. The value for $f_K/f_π$ i… ▽ More

Staggered Chiral Perturbation Theory with Heavy-Light Mesons
Abstract: We merge heavy quark effective theory with staggered chiral perturbation theory to calculate heavy-light (B, D) meson quantities. We present results at NLO for the $B(D)$ meson decay constant in the partially quenched and full QCD cases, and discuss the calculation of the form factors for $B(D) \to π(K) \ell ν$ decays.

Semileptonic decays of $D$ mesons in three-flavor lattice QCD
Abstract: We present the first three-flavor lattice QCD calculations for $D\to πlν$ and $D\to K lν$ semileptonic decays. Simulations are carried out using ensembles of unquenched gauge fields generated by the MILC collaboration. With an improved staggered action for light quarks, we are able to simulate at light quark masses down to 1/8 of the strange mass. Consequently, the systematic error from the chir… ▽ More

Light pseudoscalar decay constants, quark masses, and low energy constants from three-flavor lattice QCD
Abstract: As part of our program of lattice simulations of three flavor QCD with improved staggered quarks, we have calculated pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants for a range of valence quark masses and sea quark masses on lattices with lattice spacings of about 0.125 fm and 0.09 fm. We fit the lattice data to forms computed with staggered chiral perturbation theory. Our results provide a sensit… ▽ More

Lattice Gauge Fixing as Quenching and the Violation of Spectral Positivity
Abstract: Lattice Landau gauge and other related lattice gauge fixing schemes are known to violate spectral positivity. The most direct sign of the violation is the rise of the effective mass as a function of distance. The origin of this phenomenon lies in the quenched character of the auxiliary field $g$ used to implement lattice gauge fixing, and is similar to quenched QCD in this respect. This is best… ▽ More
