The electrical conductivity of a material can feature subtle, nontrivial, and spatially-varying signatures with critical insight into the material's underlying physics. Here we demonstrate a conductivity imaging technique based on the atom-sized nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defect in diamond that offers local, quantitative, and noninvasive conductivity imaging with nanoscale spatial resolution. We monitor the spin relaxation rate of a single NV center in a scanning probe geometry to quantitatively image the magnetic fluctuations produced by thermal electron motion in nanopatterned metallic conductors. We achieve 40-nm scale spatial resolution of the conductivity and realize a 25-fold increase in imaging speed by implementing spin-to-charge conversion readout of a shallow NV center. NV-based conductivity imaging can probe condensed-matter systems in a new regime, and as a model example, we project readily achievable imaging of nanoscale phase separation in complex oxides.

Ant colony system (ACS) is a promising approach which has been widely used in problems such as Travelling Salesman Problems (TSP), Job shop scheduling problems (JSP) and Quadratic Assignment problems (QAP). In its original implementation, parameters of the algorithm were selected by trial and error approach. Over the last few years, novel approaches have been proposed on adapting the parameters of ACS in improving its performance. The aim of this paper is to use a framework introduced for self-tuning optimization algorithms combined with the firefly algorithm (FA) to tune the parameters of the ACS solving symmetric TSP problems. The FA optimizes the problem specific parameters of ACS while the parameters of the FA are tuned by the selected framework itself. With this approach, the user neither has to work with the parameters of ACS nor the parameters of FA. Using common symmetric TSP problems we demonstrate that the framework fits well for the ACS. A detailed statistical analysis further verifies the goodness of the new ACS over the existing ACS and also of the other techniques used to tune the parameters of ACS.

Abstract:
We probe the relaxation dynamics of the full three-level spin system of near-surface nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond to define a $T_{1}$ relaxation time that helps resolve the $T_{2} \leq 2T_{1}$ coherence limit of the NV's subset qubit superpositions. We find that double-quantum spin relaxation via electric field noise dominates $T_{1}$ of near-surface NVs at low applied magnetic fields.…

We find that double-quantum spin relaxation via electric field noise dominates $T_{1}$ of near-surface NVs at low applied magnetic fields. Furthermore, we differentiate $1/f^α$ spectra of electric and magnetic field noise using a novel noise-spectroscopy technique, with broad applications in probing surface-induced decoherence at material interfaces.

Second order perturbed Heisenberg Hamiltonian was employed to investigate the magnetic properties of hexagonal Cobalt films. Initially the number of nearest neighbors and the constants arisen from the partial summation of the dipole interactions of the structure of cobalt were calculated using some special algorithms. Minimization of the energy difference between the easy and hard direction of a memory device is very important. When the energy difference between the easy and hard directions is significantly small, the magnetic moments in a memory device can be quickly rotated between easy and hard directions under the influence of a small magnetic field. The thickness of a cobalt film corresponding to this minimum energy difference calculated using this theoretical model agrees with some experimental data of cobalt based magnetic memory devices.
