We investigate the most general exact solutions of Brans-Dicke cosmology by choosing the scale factor "a" as the new independent variable. It is shown that a set of three field equations can be reduced to a constraint equation and a first order linear differential equation. Thus this new set of equations is solvable when one supplies one of the following pairs of functions: (Φ(a), \r{ho}(a)), (Φ(a), V(a)) or (Φ(a), H(a)). A universe with a single component energy-matter density is studied. It is seen that when there is no constant energy density, the Hubble function still contains a constant term which causes exponential expansion. This constant is expressed in terms of the initial values of the universe. An early universe and the present universe with dark energy are studied. In addition late time accelerated expansion is also explained with cosmic domain walls. If we take Brans-Dicke parameter w>4*10^4 formulas of the Hubble function reduce to solutions of ΛCDM cosmology. Therefore comparison of our results with recent observations of type Ia supernovae indicates that eighty-nine percent of present universe may consist of domain walls while rest is matter.

We study the most general cosmological model with real scalar field which is minimally coupled to gravity. Our calculations are based on Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) background metric. Field equations consist of three differential equations. We switch independent variable from time to scale factor by change of variable $\dot{a}/a=H(a)$. Thus a new set of differential equations are analytically solvable with known methods. We formulate Hubble function, the scalar field, potential and energy density when one of them is given in the most general form. $a(t)$ can be explicitly found as long as methods of integration techniques are available. We investigate the dynamics of the universe at early times as well as at late times in light of these formulas. We find mathematical machinery which turns on and turns off early accelerated expansion. On the other hand late time accelerated expansion is explained by cosmic domain walls. We have compared our results with recent observations of type Ia supernovae by considering the Hubble tension and absolute magnitude tension. We investigate a field theoretical approach to the Jordan-Brans- Dicke (JBD) theory extended with a particular potential term on a cosmological background by starting with the motivation that the Higgs field and the scale factor of the universe are related. Based on this relation, it is possible to come up with mathematically equivalent but two different interpretations. From one point of view while the universe is static, the masses of the elementary particles change with time. The other one, which we stick with throughout the manuscript, is that while the universe is expanding, particle masses are constant. Thus, a coupled Lagrangian density of the JBD field and the scale factor (the Higgs field), which exhibit a massive particle and a linearly expanding space in zeroth order respectively, is obtained. By performing a coordinate transformation in the field space for the reduced JBD action whose kinetic part is nonlinear sigma model, the Lagrangian of two scalar fields can be written as uncoupled for the Higgs mechanism. After this transformation, as a result of spontaneous symmetry breaking, the time dependent vacuum expectation value (vev) of the Higgs field and the Higgs bosons which are the particles corresponding to quantized oscillation modes about the vacuum, are found.

Based on the idea that the components of a cosmological metric may be determined by the total gravitational potential of the universe, the scalar field $φ=1/G$ in the Jordan-Brans-Dicke (JBD) theory is introduced as evolving with the inverse square of the scale factor. Since the gravitational potential is related to the field $φ$ resulting from Mach's principle and depends on time due to the expansion of space, the temporal evolution of the field should be in accord with the evolution of time and space intervals in the metric tensor. For the same reason, the time dependence of the field makes these comoving intervals relative for different points on the time axis. Thus, it is shown that introduction of the cosmic gravitational potential as a time dependent scalar field proportional to $1/a^2$ may resolve the flatness, the horizon and the late-time accelerating expansion problems of the standard model of cosmology. The luminosity distance vs redshift data of Type Ia supernovae is in agreement with this approach.

The Internet of Things (IoT) are interconnected devices for exchanging information through sensors and actuators. One of the main physical sensors to understand the environment beyond the visible world is a radar. Basically, radars have always been a military tool to be used to investigate the environment. However, with the develo** technology, radars have become more compact and affordable to use in a building, in a car, in a drone or even in a wristwatch. In the near future, radar-equipped IoT platforms will start to appear increasingly. For each IoT platform, dual use of spectrum with dual aperture is required for sensing and communicating when using conventional approaches. For the radar sensing IoT devices, the emission from the radar and communication circuitry is the main reason of the increase in energy consumption. Furthermore, an increasing number of radars emerges as congested spectrum, and RF convergence between radars and communication systems becomes more likely to present itself. Recent years, there have been numerous researches which propose using the one emission/waveform for perceiving the environment and sending information. They are often called as "Joint Radar-Communication (JRC)" systems. Due to the latest developments in JRC system designs, radar sensing IoT platforms now can be transformed into an "Internet of RAdio Detectors And Rangers (IoR)". In this article, we present a short survey on JRC technologies, possible application areas IoR applications and challenges and future research directions for enabling the concept of IoR.

In this paper, we propose the existence and discuss the properties of rogue quantum gravitational waves. More specifically, we numerically solve the Schrödinger-Newton system of equations using a spectral scheme with a $4^{th}$ order Runge-Kutta time integrator and show that noise either imposed on wave function $Ψ$, or the gravitational field $Φ$, triggers the modulation instability which turns the monochromatic wave fields into chaotic ones exhibiting high and unexpected waves. Such waves can be named as rogue quantum gravitational waves. We discuss the characteristics and probabilities of occurrences of such rogue waves in the frame of the Schrödinger-Netwon equations. We suggest alternative methods for studying rogue quantum gravitational waves and rogue gravitational waves.

By measuring the polarization changes in THz, infrared, and visible radiation over an extended energy range (3-2330 meV), we observe symmetry-breaking in cuprate high temperature superconductors over wide energy, do**, and temperature ranges. We measure the polarization rotation and ellipticity of transmitted radiation though thin films as the sample is rotated. We observe a two-fold rotational symmetry in the Faraday angle, which is associated with linear dichroism (LD) and occurs when electromagnetic radiation polarized along one direction is absorbed more strongly than radiation polarized in the perpendicular direction. Such polarization anisotropies can be generally associated with symmetry breakings. We measure the amplitude of the LD signal and study its temperature, energy, and do** dependence. The LD signal shows a resonant behavior with a peak in the few hundred meV range, which is coincident with the mid-infrared optical feature that has been associated with the formation of the pseudogap state. The strongest LD signal is found in under-doped films, although it is also observed in optimally- and over-doped samples. The LD signal is consistent with nematic charge ordering as well as novel magnetoelectric effects.

Recently, huge attention is attracted to the concept of integrating communication and radar missions within the same platform. Joint radar-communications (JRC) system gives an important opportunity to reduce spectrum usage and product cost while doing concurrent operation, as target sensing via radar processing and establishing communication links. A JRC-capable coherent MIMO radar system have been proposed recently in the literature. Several methods are introduced to reach dual goal as a notable null level towards the direction of interest of the radar and MIMO radar waveform orthogonality. Due to the limitations originated form the JRC operation, communication channel may encounter unwanted amplitude variations. This unwanted modulation normally affects the communication performance by its nature, due to the fades on radiated signal amplitude towards the direction of communication. However, the effect of this unintentional modulation on communication channel is yet to be investigated. In this paper, the communication channel for JRC capable phase-coded coherent MIMO radars is analyzed and investigated under additive white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh/Rician fading conditions. Communication capacity is evaluated for each channel condition. The results reveal that, using the single-side limited null direction fixed waveform generation method displays the best capacity performance under all channel conditions.

We report a giant enhancement of the mid-infrared (MIR) magneto-optical complex Kerr angle (polarization change of reflected light) in a variety of materials grown on SiC. In epitaxially-grown multilayer graphene, the Kerr angle is enhanced by a factor of 68, which is in good agreement with Kerr signal modeling. Strong Kerr enhancement is also observed in Fe films grown on SiC and Al-doped bulk SiC. Our experiments and modelling indicate that the enhancement occurs at the high-energy edge of the SiC reststrahlen band where the real component of the complex refractive index n passes through unity. Furthermore, since the signal is greatly enhanced when n=1, the enhancement is predicted to exist over the entire visible/infrared (IR) spectrum for a free-standing film. We also predict similar giant enhancement in both Faraday (transmission) and Kerr rotation for thin films on a metamaterial substrate with refractive index n=-1. This work demonstrates that the substrate used in MOKE measurements must be carefully chosen when investigating magneto-optical materials with weak MOKE signals or when designing MOKE-based optoelectronic devices.

If the space-time is discrete we have found that no massive scalar field can exist. Hence, we concluded that unbounded discrete space-time cannot exist. Approximate vacuum solutions of Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory for perturbed scalar field and perturbed Robertson-Walker metric, are found. Solutions for the scale factor and the scalar field in unperturbed JBD theory are dependent on the $ω$ parameter which determines how the scalar field is coupled to geometry of space-time. After adding a metric perturbation to Robertson-Walker metric and a perturbation to the scalar field, we solved the linearized JBD equations and found the scale factor and the scalar field as $a\propto t$ and $φ\propto t^{-2}$ with $ω=$-3/2. The results are necessary conditions for ordinary and scalar gravitational waves to exist in the vacuum case. Despite omega is a large positive number for current solar system environment observations, this value of omega makes JBD theory conformally invariant and fits recent supernovae type Ia data. We also looked for the value of omega for the case which has nonzero spatial curvature parameter.

In this paper, we investigate the Unruh radiation in the Bohmian field theory on a shape dynamics background setting. Since metric and metric momentum are real quantities, the integral kernel to invert the Lichnerowicz-York equation for first order deviations due to existence of matter terms turns out to be real. This fact makes the interaction Hamiltonian real. On the other hand, the only contribution to guarantee the existence of Unruh radiation has to come from the imaginary part of the temporal part of the wave functional. We have proved the existence of Unruh radiation in this setting. It is also important that we have found the Unruh radiation via an Unruh-DeWitt detector in a theory where there is no Lorentz symmetry and no conventional space-time structure.

We present a mini review of the Stueckelberg mechanism, which was proposed to make the abelian gauge theories massive as an alternative to Higgs mechanism, within the framework of Minkowski as well as curved spacetimes. The higher the scale the tighter the bounds on the photon mass, which might be gained via the Stueckelberg mechanism, may be signalling that even an extremely small mass of the photon which cannot be measured directly could have far reaching effects in cosmology. We present a cosmological model where Stueckelberg fields, which consist of both scalar and vector fields, are non-minimally coupled to gravity and the universe could go through a decelerating expansion phase sandwiched by two different accelerated expansion phases. We discuss also the possible anisotropic extensions of the model.

Schwarzschild black hole is the simplest black hole that is studied most in detail. Its behavior is best understood by looking at the geodesics of the particles under the influence of its gravitational field. In this paper, the focus of attention is giving a perspicuous description of the Schwarzschild geodesics by using analogue potential approach. Specifically we discuss geodesics of light and of a massive particle in the case that their angular momentum is non zero in the Schwarzschild spacetime. This discussion is done by defining analogue potentials out of geodesic equations and defining relevant dimensionless conserved quantities. Then, we designate how geodesics change in response to the change of these quantities. Our results indicate the relation between the particles' motion near black hole horizon and their angular momentum. Furthermore, we make a comparison between Newtonian Physics (NP) and General Relativity (GR) in the language of the analogue potential approach.

It is shown that for the nonperiodic case the translation operator becomes nonunitary due to the end points. This uniquely defines an algebra which has the desired unique representation. Energy eigenvalues and energy wave functions for both cases are found. As expected, in the continuum limit the solution for the nonperiodic case becomes the same as the solution of an infinite one dimensional square well and the periodic case solution becomes the same as the solution of a particle in a box with periodic boundary conditions.

This result turned out to be in a quantitative agreement with an experiment achieved earlier on the subject matter (A.L. Kholmetskii et al. 2009 Phys. Even though we have not observed any excess above background, we can provide a 95% C.L. limit for the coupling strength of chameleons to photons of $β_γ\!\lesssim\!10^{11}$ for $1<β_{\rm m}<10^6$.

Two parallel magnet bores can be filled with helium of adjustable pressure to match the X-ray refractive mass $m_γ$ to the axion search mass $m_a$. After the vacuum phase (2003--2004), which is optimal for $m_a\lesssim0.02$ eV, we used $^4$He in 2005--2007 to cover the mass range of 0.02--0.39 eV and $^3$He in 2009--2011 to scan from 0.39--1.17 eV. After improving the detectors and shielding, we returned to $^4$He in 2012 to investigate a narrow $m_a$ range around 0.2 eV ("candidate setting" of our earlier search) and 0.39--0.42 eV, the upper axion mass range reachable with $^4$He, to "cross the axion line" for the KSVZ model. We have improved the limit on the axion-photon coupling to $g_{aγ}< 1.47\times10^{-10} {\rm
GeV}^{-1}$ (95% C.L.), depending on the pressure settings. Since 2013, we have returned to vacuum and aim for a significant increase in sensitivity.

We investigate a cosmological model in which the Stueckelberg fields are non-minimally coupled to the scalar curvature in a gauge invariant manner. We present not only a solution that can be considered in the context of the late time acceleration of the universe but also a solution compatible with the inflationary cosmology. Distinct behaviors of the scalar and vector fields together with the real valued mass gained by the Stueckelberg mechanism lead the universe to go through the two different accelerated expansion phases with a decelerated expansion phase between them. On the other hand, in the solutions we present, if the mass is null then the universe is either static or exhibits a simple power law expansion due to the vector field potential.

We come out with the same result as that of the general theory of relativity (GTR), although the philosophies behind are totally different from each other. We emphasize that in our approach, there is no need to draw a distinction between light and ordinary matter, which makes our approach of gravity potentially compatible with quantum mechanics. Furthermore, our equation that furnishes gravitational lensing, also furnishes the result about the precession of the perihelion of a planet. The results obtained are discussed.

In this work we attempt to introduce the fifth dimension in a way that a time dimension would be introduced. With such an internal space, we are able to obtain accelerated expansion without introducing dark energy. We obtain a five dimensional flat, meaning both Ricci flat and conformally flat, spacetime into which all relevant four dimensional cosmologies can be locally embedded. We also argue on the choice of the cosmological frame. The choice that is simplest and most convenient in terms of dimensional analysis, amounts to a linearly expanding universe.

The status of the solar axion search with the CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) will be presented. Recent results obtained by the use of $^3$He as a buffer gas has allowed us to extend our sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with $^4$He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV$ \le m_{a} \le $ 0.64 eV. From the absence of an excess of x rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g$_{aγ} \le 2.3\times 10^{-10}$ GeV$^{-1}$ at 95% C.L., the exact value depending on the pressure setting. CAST published results represent the best experimental limit on the photon couplings to axions and other similar exotic particles dubbed WISPs (Weakly Interacting Slim Particles) in the considered mass range and for the first time the limit enters the region favored by QCD axion models. Preliminary sensitivities for axion masses up to 1.16 eV will also be shown reaching mean upper limits on the axion-photon coupling of g$_{aγ} \le 3.5\times 10^{-10}$ GeV$^{-1}$ at 95% C.L. Expected sensibilities for the extension of the CAST program up to 2014 will be presented. Moreover long term options for a new helioscope experiment will be evoked.

The origin of dark energy remains to be one of the challenges of modern cosmology. We modify Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory using a vector field instead of a scalar field and theory becomes similar to a simple Einstein-aether theory. The time component of the vector field picks up a cosmological background value. Identifying the vector field to be the photon field, a small photon mass leads to late time inflation. The time dependent background electrical potential of the photon permeates the universe and explains the weakness of the gravitational interaction by coupling to curvature. This theory relates the smallness of the photon mass to the smallness of the Hubble parameter. The model predicted photon mass is far below observational constraints.

Abstract:
The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using 3He as a buffer gas. The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using 3He as a buffer gas. At T=1.8 K this allows for larger pressure settings and hence sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with 4He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV < m_a < 0.64 eV. From the absence of excess X-rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g_ag < 2.3 x 10^{-10} GeV^{-1} at 95% CL, the exact value depending on the pressure setting. KSVZ axions are excluded at the upper end of our mass range, the first time ever for any solar axion search. In future we will extend our search to m_a < 1.15 eV, comfortably overlap** with cosmological hot dark matter bounds.

Abstract:
Jordan-Brans-Dicke cosmology with a standard kinetic term for the scalar field and no mass term has the same radiation dominated solution as standard Einstein cosmology without the cosmological constant. Because of this, the primordial nucleosynthesis (Big - Bang nucleosynthesis) result obtained for standard cosmology remains the same for Jordan-Brans-Dicke cosmology. We show that Jordan-Brans-Dic…

Because of this, the primordial nucleosynthesis (Big - Bang nucleosynthesis) result obtained for standard cosmology remains the same for Jordan-Brans-Dicke cosmology. We show that Jordan-Brans-Dicke cosmology with a mass term for the scalar field as well as explaining dark energy for the present era, can also explain radiation dominated cosmology for the primordial nucleosynthesis era.

Abstract:
When Brans-Dicke Theory is formulated in terms of the Jordan scalar field φ, dark energy is related to the mass of this field. We show that if φis taken to be a complex scalar field then an exact solution of the vacuum equations shows that Friedmann equation possesses a term, proportional to the inverse sixth power of the scale factor, as well as a constant term. Possible interpretations and pheno…

Previously, we established a connection between the macroscopic classical laws of gases and the quantum mechanical description of molecules of an ideal gas (T. Yarman et al. arXiv:0805.4494). In such a gas, the motion of each molecule can be considered independently on all other molecules, and thus the macroscopic parameters of the ideal gas, like pressure P and temperature T, can be introduced as a result of simple averaging over all individual motions of the molecules. It was shown that for an ideal gas enclosed in a macroscopic cubic box of volume V, the constant, arising along with the classical law of adiabatic expansion, i.e. PV5/3=constant, can be explicitly derived based on quantum mechanics, so that the constant comes to be proportional to h^2/m; here h is the Planck Constant, and m is the relativistic mass of the molecule the gas is made of. In this article we show that the same holds for a photon gas, although the related setup is quite different than the previous ideal gas setup. At any rate, we come out with PV5/3 hc=constant, where c is the speed of light. No matter what the dimensions of the constants in question are different from each other, they are still rooted to universal constants, more specifically to h2 and to hc, respectively; their ratio, i.e. V1/3 h/mc, interestingly pointing to the de Broglie relationship's cast.

The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series of notes based on simulations of the detector and physics processes, with particular emphasis given to the data expected from the first years of operation of the LHC at CERN.
