Common Spacial Patterns (CSP) is a widely used method to analyse electroencephalography (EEG) data, concerning the supervised classification of brain's activity. More generally, it can be useful to distinguish between multivariate signals recorded during a time span for two different classes. CSP is based on the simultaneous diagonalization of the average covariance matrices of signals from both classes and it allows to project the data into a low-dimensional subspace. Once data are represented in a low-dimensional subspace, a classification step must be carried out. The original CSP method is based on the Euclidean distance between signals and here, we extend it so that it can be applied on any appropriate distance for data at hand. Both, the classical CSP and the new Distance-Based CSP (DB-CSP) are implemented in an R package, called dbcsp.

This study analyzes the factors affecting the configuration and consolidation of green ports in Colombia. For this purpose a case stady of maritime cargo ports of Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta is performed addressing semiestructured interviews to identify the factors contributing to the consolidation of green ports and the factors guiding the sustainability management in the ports that have not yet been certified as green ports. The results show that environmental regulations are atarting point not the key factor to consolidate asgreen ports. As a conclusions, the conversion of Colombian to green ports should not be limited to the attaiment of certifications, such as Ecoport certification, but should ensure the contribution to sustainable development through economic, social and environmental dimensions and the achievement of the SDGs

Measuring complexity of curves on surfaces

Abstract:
We consider the relations between different measures of complexity for free homotopy classes of curves on a surface $Σ$, including the minimum number of self-intersections, the minimum length of the words representing them in a geometric presentation of $π_1(Σ)$, and the minimum degree of the coverings of $Σ$ to which they lift as embeddings.
