We have developed a circularly polarized dielectric rutile (TiO$_2$) cavity with a high quality-factor that can generate circularly polarized microwaves from two orthogonal linearly polarized microwaves with a phase difference of $\pmπ/2$ using a hybrid coupler. Using this cavity, we have established a new methodology to measure the microwave Hall conductivity of a small single crystal of metals in the skin-depth region. Based on the cavity perturbation technique, we have shown that all components of the surface impedance tensor can be extracted under the application of a magnetic field by comparing the right- and left-handed circularly polarization modes. To verify the validity of the developed method, we performed test measurements on tiny Bi single crystals at low temperatures. As a result, we have successfully obtained the surface impedance tensor components and confirmed that the characteristic field dependence of the ac Hall angle in the microwave region is consistent with the expectation from the dc transport measurements. These results demonstrate a significant improvement in sensitivity compared to previous methods. Thus, our developed technique allows more accurate microwave Hall measurements, opening the way for new approaches to explore novel topological quantum materials, such as time-reversal symmetry-breaking superconductors.

We prove this conjecture when the complex reflection group $Γ$ is the symmetric group $S_N$ by constructing a sheaf of $\hbar$-adic vertex operator superalgebras on the Hilbert scheme of $N$ points in the plane. For that case, we also show the free-field realisation of $\mathsf{W}_Γ$ in terms of $\operatorname{rk}(Γ)$ many $βγbc$-systems proposed in arXiv:1810.03612, and identify the character of $\mathsf{W}_Γ$ as a certain quasimodular form of mixed weight and multiple $q$-zeta value.
In physical terms, the vertex operator superalgebra $\mathsf{W}_{S_N}$ constructed in this article corresponds via the 4D/2D duality arXiv:1312.5344 to the four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with gauge group $\operatorname{SL}_N$.

The first author and W.~Wang observed that in positive characteristics, the universal affine vertex algebra contains a large central subalgebra known as the $p$-centre. They conjectured that at the critical level the centre should be generated by the Feigin--Frenkel centre and the $p$-centre. In this paper we prove the conjecture for classical simple Lie algebras for $p$ larger than the Coxeter number, and for exceptional Lie algebras in large characteristics. Finally, we give an example which shows that at non-critical level the center is larger than the $p$-centre.

We discuss an efficient and reliable procedure to evaluate the Kondo temperature defined at the ground state from experimental or numerical data sets of the magnetic field dependence of the linear conductance or the magnetization of the quantum dot. This procedure is helpful for quantitative comparison of the theory and the experiment, and useful in Kondo-correlated systems where temperature control over a wide range is difficult, such as for cold atoms. We demonstrate its application to experimentally measured electric current through a carbon nanotube quantum dot.

Behavior of quantum liquids is a fascinating topic in physics. Even in a strongly correlated case, the linear response of a given system to an external field is described by the fluctuation-dissipation relations based on the two-body correlations in the equilibrium. However, to explore nonlinear non-equilibrium behaviors of the system beyond this well-established regime, the role of higher order correlations starting from the three-body correlations must be revealed. In this work, we experimentally investigate a controllable quantum liquid realized in a Kondo-correlated quantum dot and prove the relevance of the three-body correlations in the nonlinear conductance at finite magnetic field, which validates the recent Fermi liquid theory extended to the non-equilibrium regime.

In the presence of the magnetic field, the subband edge splitting due to the Zeeman energy reaches 0.09 meV at 0.16 T, thereby suggesting an enhanced g-factor. The estimated g-factor enhancement is 17.5 times that of the bare value. It is considered that a low electron density and high mobility makes it possible to reach a strong many-body interaction regime in which this type of strong enhancement in g-factor can be observed.

In this work, we introduce Urod algebras associated to simply-laced Lie algebras as well as the concept of translation of W-algebras. Both results are achieved by showing that the quantum Hamiltonian reduction commutes with tensoring with integrable representations, that is, for $V$ and $L$ an affine vertex algebra and an integrable affine vertex algebra associated with $\mathfrak{g}$, we have the vertex algebra isomorphism $H_{DS,f}^0(V\otimes L)\cong H_{DS,f}^0(V)\otimes L$, where in the left-hand-side the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction is taken with respect to the diagonal action of $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ on $V\otimes L$. The proof is based on some new constructionof automorphisms of vertex algebras, which may be of independent interest. As corollaries we get fusion categories of modules of many exceptional W-algebras and we can construct various corner vertex algebras. A major motivation for this work is that Urod algebras of type $A$ provide a representation theoretic interpretation of the celebrated Nakajima-Yoshioka blowup equations for the moduli space of framed torsion free sheaves on $\mathbb{CP}^2$ of an arbitrary rank.

The amplitude of the negative resistance becomes larger by increasing the SAW power and decreasing temperature. As one possible scenario, we propose that soliton-antisoliton pairs in the charge density wave of NbSe$_2$ modulated by the SAW serve as a time-dependent capacitance in the superconducting state, leading to the dc negative resistance. The present experimental result would provide a previously unexplored way to examine nonequilibrium manipulation of the superconductivity.

Here we report a butterfly-shaped magnetoresistance (MR) in a micrometer-sized triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ag$_2$CrO$_2$. The material consists of two-dimensional triangular-lattice CrO$_2$ layers with antiferromagnetically coupled $S$ = 3/2 spins and Ag$_2$ layers with high electrical conductivity. The butterfly-shaped MR appears only when the magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to the CrO$_2$ plane with the maximum MR ratio ($\approx$ 15%) at the magnetic ordering temperature. These features are distinct from those observed in conventional magnetic materials. We propose a theoretical model where fluctuations of partially disordered spins with the Ising anisotropy play an essential role in the butterfly-shaped MR in Ag$_2$CrO$_2$.

By means of spin current, the flow of spin angular momentum, we find a regime of "spin treacle" in a frustrated magnetic system. To establish its existence, we have performed spin transport measurements in nanometer-scale spin glasses. At temperatures high enough that the magnetic moments fluctuate at high frequencies, the spin Hall angle, the conversion yield between spin current and charge current, is independent of temperature. The spin Hall angle starts to decrease at a certain temperature $T^{*}$ and completely vanishes at a lower temperature. We argue that the latter corresponds to the spin freezing temperature $T_{\rm f}$ of the nanometer-scale spin glass, where the direction of conduction electron spin is randomized by the exchange coupling with the localized moments. The present experiment \textit{quantitatively} verifies the existence of a distinct "spin treacle" between $T_{\rm f}$ and $T^{*}$. We have also quantified a time scale of fluctuation of local magnetic moments in the spin treacle from the spin relaxation time of conduction electrons.

In order to construct the single electron source on a GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), it is often necessary to fabricate a sub-micron wire by etching. We have established techniques to make the wire made of the fragile 2DEG by combining photolithography and electron beam lithography with one-step photoresist coating, which enables us to etch fine and coarse structures simultaneously. It has been demonstrated that a single electron source fabricated on the narrow wire pumps fixed number of electrons per one cycle with radio frequency. The fabrication technique improves the lithography process with lower risk to damage the 2DEG and is applicable to etching of other materials and dry etching.

We study finite-temperature properties of the Kondo effect in a carbon nanotube (CNT) quantum dot using the Wilson numerical renormalization group (NRG). In the absence of magnetic fields, four degenerate energy levels of the CNT consisting of spin and orbital degrees of freedom give rise to the SU(4) Kondo effect. We revisit the universal scaling behavior of the SU(4) conductance for quarter- and half-filling in a wide temperature range. We find that the filling dependence of the universal scaling behavior at low temperatures $T$ can be explained clearly with an extended Fermi-liquid theory. This theory clarifies that a $T^{2}$ coefficient of conductance becomes zero at quarter-filling whereas the coefficient at half-filling is finite. We also study a field-induced crossover from the SU(4) to SU(2) Kondo state observed at the half-filled CNT dot. The crossover is caused by the matching of the spin and orbital Zeeman splittings, which lock two levels among the four at the Fermi level even in magnetic fields $B$. We find that the conductance shows the SU($4$) scaling behavior at $μ_{B}B<k_{B}T_{K}^{\mathrm{SU(4)}}$ and it exhibits the SU($2$) universality at $μ_{B}B\gg k_{B}T_{K}^{\mathrm{SU(4)}}$, where $T_{K}^{\mathrm{SU(4)}}$ is the SU($4$) Kondo temperature. To clarify how the excited states evolve along the SU(4) to SU(2) crossover, we also calculate the spectral function. The results show that the Kondo resonance width of the two states locked at the Fermi level becomes sharper with increasing fields. The spectral peaks of the other two levels moving away from the Fermi level merge with atomic limit peaks for $μ_{B}B \gtrsim k_{B}T_{K}^{\mathrm{SU(4)}}$.

The conductance quantization and shot noise below the first conductance plateau $G_0 = 2e^2/h$ are measured in a quantum point contact fabricated in a GaAs/AlGaAs tunnel-coupled double quantum well. From the conductance measurement, we observe a clear quantized conductance plateau at $0.5G_0$ and a small minimum in the transconductance at $0.7 G_0$. Spectroscopic transconductance measurement reveals three maxima inside the first diamond, thus suggesting three minima in the dispersion relation for electric subbands. Shot noise measurement shows that the Fano factor behavior is consistent with this observation. We propose a model that relates these features to a wavenumber directional split subband due to a strong Rashba spin--orbit interaction that is induced by the center barrier potential gradient of the double-layer sample.

Most of the time, electronic excitations in mesoscopic conductors are well described, around equilibrium, by non-interacting Landau quasi-particles. This allows a good understanding of the transport properties in the linear regime. However, the role of interaction in the non-equilibrium properties beyond this regime has still to be established. A paradigmatic example is the Kondo many body state, which can be realized in a carbon nanotube (CNT) quantum dot for temperatures below the Kondo temperature $T_K$. As CNT possess spin and orbital quantum numbers, it is possible to investigate the twofold degenerate SU(2) Kondo effect as well as the four fold degenerate SU(4) state by tuning the degeneracies and filling factor. This article aims at providing a comprehensive review on our recent works on the Kondo correlations probed by quantum noise measurement both at low and high frequencies and demonstrate how current noise measurements yield new insight on interaction effects and dynamics of a Kondo correlated state.

Kondo correlations are responsible for the emergence of a zero-bias peak in the low temperature differential conductance of Coulomb blockaded quantum dots. In the presence of a global SU(2)$\otimes$SU(2) symmetry, which can be realized in carbon nanotubes, they also inhibit inelastic transitions which preserve the Kramers pseudospins associated to the symmetry. We report on magnetotransport experiments on a Kondo correlated carbon nanotube where resonant features at the bias corresponding to the pseudospin-preserving transitions are observed. We attribute this effect to a simultaneous enhancement of pseudospin-non-preserving transitions occurring at that bias. This process is boosted by asymmetric tunneling couplings of the two Kramers doublets to the leads and by asymmetries in the potential drops at the leads. Hence, the present work discloses a fundamental microscopic mechanisms ruling transport in Kondo systems far from equilibrium.

First, we prove the Kac-Wakimoto conjecture on modular invariance of characters of exceptional affine W-algebras. In fact more generally we prove modular invariance of characters of all lisse W-algebras obtained through Hamiltonian reduction of admissible affine vertex algebras. Second, we prove the rationality of a large subclass of these W-algebras, which includes all exceptional W-algebras of type A and lisse subregular W-algebras in simply laced types. Third, for the latter cases we compute S-matrices and fusion rules. Our results provide the first examples of rational W-algebras associated with non-principal distinguished nilpotent elements, and the corresponding fusion rules are rather mysterious.

We give a functorial construction of the genus zero chiral algebras of class $\mathcal{S}$, that is, the vertex algebras corresponding to the theory of class $\mathcal{S}$ associated with genus zero pointed Riemann surfaces via the 4d/2d duality discovered by Beem, Lemos, Liendo, Peelaers, Rastelli and van Rees in physics. We show that there is a unique family of vertex algebras satisfying the required conditions and show that they are all simple and conformal. In fact, our construction works for any complex semisimple group G that is not necessarily simply laced. Furthermore, we show that the associated varieties of these vertex algebras are exactly the genus zero Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties that have been recently constructed by Braverman, Finkelberg and Nakajima using the geometry of the affine Grassmannian for the Langlands dual group.

Depending on the gate voltage, the SU(2) and SU(4) Kondo unitary regimes can be clearly identified. We observe enhancement of the shot noise via the Fano factor in the superconducting state. Its divergence at low bias voltage, which is more pronounced in the SU(4) regime than in the SU(2) one, is larger than what is expected from proliferation of multiple Andreev reflections predicted by the existing theories. Our result suggests that Kondo effect is responsible for this strong enhancement.

There is a closed embedding from the singular support to the arc space of the associated scheme, which is an isomorphism in many interesting cases. In this note we give an example of a non-quasi-lisse vertex algebra whose associated scheme is reduced, for which the isomorphism is not true as schemes but true as varieties.

The combination of unprecedented cleanliness and very high measurement accuracy has enabled us to discuss the Fano factor to characterize the shot noise with a precision of 1 %. We observed that the shot noise at zero magnetic field exhibits a slight enhancement exceeding the single particle theoretical prediction, and that it gradually decreases as a perpendicular magnetic field is applied. We also confirmed that this additional noise completely vanishes in the quantum Hall regime. These phenomena can be explained by the electron heating effect near the QPC, which is suppressed with increasing magnetic field.

Universal properties of entangled many-body states are controlled by their symmetry and quantum fluctuations. By magnetic-field tuning of the spin-orbital degeneracy in a Kondo-correlated quantum dot, we have modified quantum fluctuations to directly measure their influence on the many-body properties along the crossover from $SU(4)$ to $SU(2)$ symmetry of the ground state. High-sensitive current noise measurements combined with the non-equilibrium Fermi liquid theory clarify that the Kondo resonance and electron correlations are enhanced as the fluctuations, measured by the Wilson ratio, increase along the symmetry crossover. Our achievement demonstrates that non-linear noise constitutes a measure of quantum fluctuations that can be used to tackle quantum phase transitions.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple, finite-dimensional Lie (super)algebra equipped with an embedding of $\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{l}_2$ inducing the minimal gradation on $\mathfrak{g}$. The corresponding minimal $\mathcal{W}$-algebra $\mathcal{W}^k(\mathfrak{g}, e_{-θ})$ introduced by Kac and Wakimoto has strong generators in weights $1,2,3/2$, and all operator product expansions are known explicitly. The weight one subspace generates an affine vertex (super)algebra $V^{k'}(\mathfrak{g}^{\natural})$ where $\mathfrak{g}^{\natural} \subset \mathfrak{g}$ denotes the centralizer of $\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{l}_2$. Therefore $\mathcal{W}^k(\mathfrak{g}, e_{-θ})$ has an action of a connected Lie group $G^{\natural}_0$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}^{\natural}_0$, where $\mathfrak{g}^{\natural}_0$ denotes the even part of $\mathfrak{g}^{\natural}$. We show that for any reductive subgroup $G \subset G^{\natural}_0$, and for any reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}' \subset \mathfrak{g}^{\natural}$, the orbifold $\mathcal{O}^k = \mathcal{W}^k(\mathfrak{g}, e_{-θ})^{G}$ and the coset $\mathcal{C}^k = \text{Com}(V(\mathfrak{g}'),\mathcal{W}^k(\mathfrak{g}, e_{-θ}))$ are strongly finitely generated for generic values of $k$. Here $V(\mathfrak{g}')$ denotes the affine vertex algebra associated to $\mathfrak{g}'$. We find explicit minimal strong generating sets for $\mathcal{C}^k$ when $\mathfrak{g}' = \mathfrak{g}^{\natural}$ and $\mathfrak{g}$ is either $\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{l}_n$, $\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}_{2n}$, $\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2|n)$ for $n\neq 2$, $\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2|2)$, or $\mathfrak{o}\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}(1|4)$. Finally, we conjecture some surprising coincidences among families of cosets $\mathcal{C}_k$ which are the simple quotients of $\mathcal{C}^k$, and we prove several cases of our conjecture.

We theoretically study an emergent SU(2) symmetry which is suggested by recent magneto-transport measurements, carried out near two electrons filling of a carbon nanotube quantum dot. It emerges in the case where the spin and orbital Zeeman splittings cancel each other out for two of the one-particle dot levels among four. Using the Wilson numerical renormalization group, we show that a crossover from the SU(4) to SU(2) Fermi-liquid behavior occurs at two impurity-electrons filling as magnetic field increases. We also find that the quasiparticles are significantly renormalized as the remaining two one-particle levels move away from the Fermi level and are frozen at high magnetic fields. In order to clarify how the ground state evolves during such a crossover, we also reexamine the SU(N) Kondo singlet state for M impurity-electrons filling in the limit of strong exchange interactions. We show that the nondegenerate Fermi-liquid fixed point of Nozièes and Blandin can be described as a bosonic Perron-Frobenius vector for M hard-core bosons, each of which consists of one impurity-electron and one conduction hole. This interpretation can also be applied to the Fermi-liquid fixed-point without the SU(N) symmetry.

Interacting quantum many-body systems constitute a fascinating playground for researchers since they form quantum liquids with correlated ground states and low-lying excitations, which exhibit universal behaviour. In fermionic systems, such quantum liquids are realized in helium-3 liquid, heavy fermion systems, neutron stars and cold gases. Their properties in the linear-response regime have been successfully described by the theory of Fermi liquids. However, non-equilibrium properties beyond this regime have still to be established and remain a key issue of many-body physics. Here, we show a precise experimental demonstration of Landau Fermi-liquid theory extended to the non-equilibrium regime in a 0-D system. Combining transport and ultra-sensitive current noise measurements, we have unambiguously identified the SU(2) and SU(4) symmetries of quantum liquid in a carbon nanotube tuned in the universal Kondo regime. We find that, while the electronic transport is well described by the free quasi-particle picture around equilibrium, a two-particle scattering process due to residual interaction shows up in the non-equilibrium regime. By using the extended Fermi-liquid theory, we obtain the interaction parameter "Wilson ratio" $R=1.9 \pm 0.1$ for SU(2) and $R=1.35 \pm 0.1$ for SU(4) as well as the corresponding effective charges, characterizing the quantum liquid behaviour. This result, in perfect agreement with theory, provides a strong quantitative experimental background for further developments of the many-body physics. Moreover, we discovered a new scaling law for the effective charge, signalling as-yet-unknown universality in the non-equilibrium regime. Our method to address quantum liquids through their non-equilibrium noise paves a new road to tackle the exotic nature of quantum liquids out-of-equilibrium in various physical systems.

Abstract:
The Bershadsky-Polyakov algebra is the $\mathcal{W}$-algebra associated to $\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_3$ with its minimal nilpotent element $f_θ$. For notational convenience we define $\mathcal{W}^{\ell} = \mathcal{W}^{\ell - 3/2} (\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_3, f_θ)$. The simple quotient of $\mathcal{W}^{\ell}$ is denoted by $\mathcal{W}_{\ell}$, and for $\ell$ a positive integer,…

The Bershadsky-Polyakov algebra is the $\mathcal{W}$-algebra associated to $\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_3$ with its minimal nilpotent element $f_θ$. For notational convenience we define $\mathcal{W}^{\ell} = \mathcal{W}^{\ell - 3/2} (\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_3, f_θ)$. The simple quotient of $\mathcal{W}^{\ell}$ is denoted by $\mathcal{W}_{\ell}$, and for $\ell$ a positive integer, $\mathcal{W}_{\ell}$ is known to be $C_2$-cofinite and rational. We prove that for all positive integers $\ell$, $\mathcal{W}_{\ell}$ contains a rank one lattice vertex algebra $V_L$, and that the coset $\mathcal{C}_{\ell} = \text{Com}(V_L, \mathcal{W}_{\ell})$ is isomorphic to the principal, rational $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_{2\ell})$-algebra at level $(2\ell +3)/(2\ell +1) -2\ell$. This was conjectured in the physics literature over 20 years ago. As a byproduct, we construct a new family of rational, $C_2$-cofinite vertex superalgebras from $\mathcal{W}_{\ell}$

Abstract:
We consider a lifting of Joseph ideals for the minimal nilpotent orbit closure to the setting of affine Kac-Moody algebras and find new examples of affine vertex algebras whose associated varieties are minimal nilpotent orbit closures. As an application we obtain a new family of lisse ($C_2$-cofinite) W-algebras that are not coming from admissible representations of affine Kac-Moody algebras.

Abstract:
We develop some basic properties such as $p$-centers of affine vertex algebras and free field vertex algebras in prime characteristic. We show that the Wakimoto-Feigin-Frenkel homomorphism preserves the $p$-centers by providing explicit formulas. This allows us to formulate the notion of baby Wakimoto modules, which in particular provides an interpretation in the context of modular vertex algebras…

We show that the Wakimoto-Feigin-Frenkel homomorphism preserves the $p$-centers by providing explicit formulas. This allows us to formulate the notion of baby Wakimoto modules, which in particular provides an interpretation in the context of modular vertex algebras for Mathieu's irreducible character formula of modular affine Lie algebras at the critical level.
