Similarly to electronic bands, strain can also modulate the optical activity response. 2DDP can be a promising candidate for some electro-opto-mechanical applications.

We develop a first-order framework that rises from restrictions on the dynamical and hyperscaling violating exponents. The results show that stable, analytical kink-like solutions and their respective energy densities can be obtained for a general class of models. In the canonical model, in particular, these solutions minimize the energy of the system.

We consider the usual two-field model with the inclusion of the cuscuton term, which couples the fields regardless the potential. First we follow the steps of previous work to show that the system supports a first-order framework, allowing us to obtain the energy of solutions without knowing their explicit form. The cuscuton term brings versatility into the first-order equations, which gives rise to interesting modifications in the profiles of topological configurations, such as the smooth control over their slope and the internal structure of the energy density.

Objective: We aimed to develop a meta-analytic model for evaluation of predictive biomarkers and targeted therapies, utilising data from digital sources when individual participant data (IPD) from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are unavailable.
Methods: A Bayesian network meta-regression model, combining aggregate data (AD) from RCTs and IPD, was developed for modelling time-to-event data to evaluate predictive biomarkers. IPD were sourced from electronic health records, using target trial emulation approach, or digitised Kaplan-Meier curves. The model is illustrated using two examples; breast cancer with a hormone receptor biomarker, and metastatic colorectal cancer with the Kirsten Rat Sarcoma (KRAS) biomarker.
Results: The model developed allowed for estimation of treatment effects in two subgroups of patients defined by their biomarker status. Effectiveness of taxane did not differ in hormone receptor positive and negative breast cancer patients. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors were more effective than chemotherapy in KRAS wild type colorectal cancer patients but not in patients with KRAS mutant status. Use of IPD reduced uncertainty of the sub-group specific treatment effect estimates by up to 49%.
Conclusion: Utilisation of IPD allowed for more detailed evaluation of predictive biomarkers and cancer therapies and improved precision of the estimates compared to use of AD alone.

In this work, we investigate a Maxwell-scalar model that couples the scalar and gauge fields through the electric permittivity and another model, in which the scalar field lives in the presence of impurity. By considering a single spatial dimension, we determine the conditions under which the model with impurity can be seen as an effective model for the Maxwell-scalar system, having similar solutions. This correspondence shows that the impurity can be used to describe the presence of a charge density, and we use it to verify that the impurity-free case, which supports minimum energy configurations, is related to the case of point charges. We also investigate a class of impurities which modifies the core of the scalar field, and find the corresponding nontrivial charge densities and electric fields. In particular, the asymptotic behavior in terms of the impurity is also studied, leading to solutions exhibiting long-range or quasi-compact profile.

We obtain the equations of motion of the fields and investigate the linear perturbation of the solutions in general. We study two specific situations that allow analytic solutions with topological behavior and check how the dilaton field, the warp factor and Ricci scalar behave. In particular, we have shown how the parameters can be used to modify the structure of the solutions. Moreover, the perturbations are in general described by intricate coupled differential equations, but in some specific cases we could construct the corresponding zero modes analytically.

We present a study of the central 200 pc of the galaxy NGC 6951, SAB(rs)bc, an active twin of the Milky Way, at a distance of 24 Mpc. Its nucleus has been observed in the optical with the GMOS-IFU, showing an outflow, and with the HST/ACS, revealing two extended structures with similar orientation, suggesting the presence of a collimating and/or obscuring structure. In order to ascertain this hypothesis, adaptive optics assisted NIR integral field spectroscopic observations were obtained with the NIFS spectrograph in the Gemini North telescope. We detected a compact structure of H$_2$ molecular gas, interpreted as a nearly edge-on disc with diameter of $\sim$47 pc, PA=124$°$ and velocity range from -40 to +40 km s$^{-1}$. This disc is misaligned by 32$°$ with respect to the radio jet and the ionization cones seen in the optical. There are two regions of turbulent gas, with position angles similar to the jet/cones, seen both in molecular and ionized phases; these regions are connected to the edges of the molecular disc and coincide with a high ratio of [N II]/H$α$=5, suggesting that these regions are shock excited, partially ionized or both. We explain these structures as a consequence of a "digging process" that the jet inflicts on the disc, ejecting the molecular gas towards the ionization cones. The dynamical mass within 17 pc is estimated as $6.3\times10^{6}$$M_{\odot}$. This is an interesting case of an object presenting evidence of a connected feeding-feedback structure.

In this work we deal with vortices in Maxwell-Higgs or Chern-Simons-Higgs models that engender long range tails. We find first order differential equations that support minimum energy solutions which solve the equations of motion. In the Maxwell scenario, we work with generalised magnetic permeabilities that lead to vortices described by solutions, magnetic field and energy density with power-law tails that extend farther than the standard exponential ones. We also find a manner to obtain a Chern-Simons model with the same scalar and magnetic field profiles of the Maxwell case. By doing so, we also find vortices with the aforementioned long range feature, which is also present in the electric field in the Chern-Simons model. The present results may motivate investigations on nonrelativistic models, in particular in the case involving Rydberg atoms, which are known to present long range interactions and relatively long lifetimes.

We first follow a route already considered in previous works to develop the Bogomol'nyi procedure, and, in this context, we use the first order equations to obtain a vortex with a novel behavior at its core. We then go further and introduce a novel procedure to develop the Bogomol'nyi methodology. It supports distinct first order equations, and we then investigate another model, in which the vortex may engender inversion of the magnetic flux, an effect with no precedents in the study of vortices within the nonminimal context.

The study of origami-based mechanical metamaterials usually focuses on the kinematics of deployable structures made of an assembly of rigid flat plates connected by hinges. When the elastic response of each panel is taken into account, novel behaviors take place, as in the case of foldable cones (f-cones): circular sheets decorated by radial creases around which they can fold. These structures exhibit bistability, in the sense that they can snap-through from one metastable configuration to another. In this work, we study the elastic behavior of isometric f-cones for any deflection and crease mechanics, which introduce nonlinear corrections to a linear model studied previously. Furthermore, we test the inextensibility hypothesis by means of a continuous numerical model that includes both the extended nature of the creases, stretching and bending deformations of the panels. The results show that this phase field-like model could become an efficient numerical tool for the study of realistic origami structures.

We study the emission from a molecular photonic cavity formed by two proximal photonic crystal defect cavities containing a small number (<3) of In(Ga)As quantum dots. Under strong excitation we observe photoluminescence from the bonding and antibonding modes in excellent agreement with expectations from numerical simulations. Power dependent measurements reveal an unexpected peak, emerging at an energy between the bonding and antibonding modes of the molecule. Temperature dependent measurements show that this unexpected feature is photonic in origin. Time-resolved measurements show the emergent peak exhibits a lifetime $τ_M=0.75 \, \pm 0.1 \, ns $, similar to both bonding and antibonding coupled modes. Comparison of experimental results with theoretical expectations reveal that this new feature arises from a coexistence of weak- and strong-coupling, due to the molecule emitting in an environment whose configuration permits or, on the contrary, impedes its strong-coupling. This scenario is reproduced theoretically for our particular geometry with a master equation reduced to the key ingredients of its dynamics. Excellent qualitative agreement is obtained between experiment and theory, showing how solid-state cavity QED can reveal new regimes of light-matter interaction.
