The production rate of $Λ_{b}^{0}$ baryons relative to $B^{0}$ mesons in $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of $Λ_{b}^{0}$ to $B^{0}$ production cross-sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions, and increases by a factor of $\sim2$ with increasing multiplicity. At relatively low transverse momentum, the ratio of $Λ_{b}^{0}$ to $B^{0}$ cross-sections is higher than what is measured in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions, but converges with the $e^{+}e^{-}$ ratio as the momentum increases. These results imply that the evolution of heavy $b$ quarks into final-state hadrons is influenced by the density of the hadronic environment produced in the collision. Comparisons with several models and implications for the mechanisms enforcing quark confinement are discussed.

The identification of helium nuclei at LHCb is achieved using a method based on measurements of ionisation losses in the silicon sensors and timing measurements in the Outer Tracker drift tubes. The background from photon conversions is reduced using the RICH detectors and an isolation requirement. The method is developed using $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13\,{\rm TeV}$ recorded by the LHCb experiment in the years 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.5\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$. A total of around $10^5$ helium and antihelium candidates are identified with negligible background contamination. The helium identification efficiency is estimated to be approximately $50\%$ with a corresponding background rejection rate of up to $\mathcal O(10^{12})$. These results demonstrate the feasibility of a rich programme of measurements of QCD and astrophysics interest involving light nuclei.

The measurement is performed by analysing the signal yield variation across the $D$ decay phase space and is independent of any amplitude model. The data sample used was collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions and corresponds to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$ at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The CKM angle $γ$ is determined to be $(69^{+13}_{-14})^{\circ}$ using the measured $CP$-violating observables. The hadronic parameters $r^{D^* K^{\pm}}_B, r^{D^* π^{\pm}}_B, δ^{D^* K^{\pm}}_B, δ^{D^* π^{\pm}}_B$, which are the ratios and strong phase differences between favoured and suppressed $B^{\pm}$ decays, are also reported.

The data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $(1.58\pm0.02)\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$ is collected by the LHCb experiment at the LHC. The differential production cross-sections are measured using $D^+$ and $D^+_{s}$ candidates with transverse momentum in the range of $0<p_{\mathrm{T}} <14\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and rapidities in the ranges of $1.5<y^*<4.0$ and $-5.0<y^*<-2.5$ in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. For both particles, the nuclear modification factor and the forward-backward production ratio are determined. These results are compared with theoretical models that include initial-state nuclear effects. In addition, measurements of the cross-section ratios between $D^+$, $D^+_{s}$ and $D^0$ mesons are presented, providing a baseline for studying the charm hadronization in lead-lead collisions at LHC energies.

In addition, measurements of the CP-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

The dynamics of two-phase flow within the cathode of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell, particularly in Gas Diffusion Layers (GDLs) with varying fiber curvatures, remain underexplored. Using a periodic surface model, we stochastically reconstruct three GDL types with different fiber curvatures, incorporating vital parameters derived from a physical GDL. Considering the randomness in reconstruction, the structure generation process is iterated four times for each GDL type, enabling an ensemble average analysis. Pore network models are adopted to reveal disparities in these GDL porous structures. The subsequent two-phase simulations are conducted to explore liquid transport through these GDLs and interfaces to assembled gas channels. Time-varying GDL total, local water saturation, and capillary pressure are investigated. Results show stochastic reconstructions exhibit similar frequency peak ranges in pore and throat diameters, and coordination numbers, but diverge from the physical GDL. Bigger fiber curvature tends to enhance pore network connectivity by increasing smaller pores, leading to heightened water saturation and capillary pressure. Straight-fiber GDLs, compared to curved-fiber GDLs, show greater potential proximity to the physical GDL in terms of overall water saturation and capillary pressure but are also accompanied by increased uncertainty. Despite similar layer porosity, water saturation in the same layer of all samples differs increasingly from the inlet to the outlet. Water breakthrough and detachment near the GDL can induce significant water saturation instability at the GDL and gas channel interface. Detached droplets in gas channels connected with straight-fiber GDLs exhibit larger sizes and slower movement than those in channels assembled with curved-fiber GDLs. These findings can be utilized in future GDL design and optimization.

The first measurement of the $Z$ boson production cross-section at centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 5.02\,$TeV in the forward region is reported, using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment in year 2017, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $100 \pm 2\,\rm{pb^{-1}}$. The production cross-section is measured for final-state muons in the pseudorapidity range $2.0<η<4.5$ with transverse momentum $p_{\rm{T}}> 20\,\rm{GeV/}\it{c}$. The integrated cross-section is determined to be \[
σ_{Z \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}} = 39.6 \pm 0.7\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.6\,(\rm{syst}) \pm 0.8\,(\rm{lumi}) \ \rm{pb} \] for the di-muon invariant mass in the range $60<M_{μμ}<120\,\rm{GeV/}\it{c^{2}}$. This result and the differential cross-section results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in the strong coupling.
Based on a previous LHCb measurement of the $Z$ boson production cross-section in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV, the nuclear modification factor $R_{p\rm{Pb}}$ is measured for the first time at this energy. The measured values are $1.2^{+0.5}_{-0.3}\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.1\,(\rm{syst})$ in the forward region ($1.53<y^*_μ<4.03$) and $3.6^{+1.6}_{-0.9}\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.2\,(\rm{syst})$ in the backward region ($-4.97<y^*_μ<-2.47$), where $y^*_μ$ represents the muon rapidity in the centre-of-mass frame.

Using a sample of approximately 349 000 $B^{0}_{s}$ signal decays with an invariant $K^{+}K^{-}$ mass in the vicinity of the $φ(1020)$ resonance, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s$ is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ system, $ΔΓ_s$, and the difference of the average $B^0_s$ and $B^0$ meson decay widths, $Γ_s-Γ_d$. The values obtained are $φ_s = \ -0.039 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.006$ rad, $ΔΓ_s = 0.0845 \pm 0.0044 \pm 0.0024 $ ps$^{-1}$ and $Γ_s-Γ_d = -0.0056 ^{+ 0.0013}_{-0.0015} \pm 0.0014$ ps$^{-1}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase $φ_s$ is also measured independently for each polarization state of the $K^{+}K^{-}$ system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence.

This paper presents the design and development of an Anderson Accelerated Preconditioned Modified Hermitian and Skew-Hermitian Splitting (AA-PMHSS) method for solving complex-symmetric linear systems with application to electromagnetics problems, such as wave scattering and eddy currents. While it has been shown that the Anderson Acceleration of real linear systems is essentially equivalent to GMRES, we show here that the formulation using Anderson acceleration leads to a more performant method. We show relatively good robustness compared to existing preconditioned GMRES methods and significantly better performance due to the faster evaluation of the preconditioner. In particular, AA-PMHSS can be applied to solve problems and equations arising from electromagnetics, such as time-harmonic eddy current simulations discretized with the Finite Element Method. We also evaluate three test systems present in previous literature. We show that the method is competitive with two types of preconditioned GMRES. One of the significant advantages of these methods is that the convergence rate is independent of the discretization size.

This paper reports the observation of the decays $B_{(s)}^{0}\to D_{s1}(2536)^{\mp}K^{\pm}$ using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to the normalisation channel $B^{0}\to \overline{D}^{0}K^{+}K^{-}$. The $D_{s1}(2536)^{-}$ meson is reconstructed in the $\overline{D}^{*}(2007)^{0}K^{-}$ decay channel and the products of branching fractions are measured to be $$\mathcal{B}(B_{s}^{0}\to D_{s1}(2536)^{\mp}K^{\pm})\times\mathcal{B}(D_{s1}(2536)^{-}\to\overline{D}^{*}(2007)^{0}K^{-})=(2.49\pm0.11\pm0.12\pm0.25\pm0.06)\times 10^{-5}, $$ $$\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\to D_{s1}(2536)^{\mp}K^{\pm})\times\mathcal{B}(D_{s1}(2536)^{-}\to\overline{D}^{*}(2007)^{0}K^{-}) = (0.510\pm0.021\pm0.036\pm0.050)\times 10^{-5}.$$ The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third arises from the uncertainty of the branching fraction of the $B^{0}\to \overline{D}^{0}K^{+}K^{-}$ normalisation channel. The last uncertainty in the $B_{s}^{0}$ result is due to the limited knowledge of the fragmentation fraction ratio, $f_{s}/f_{d}$. The significance for the $B_{s}^{0}$ and $B^{0}$ signals is larger than $10\,σ$. The ratio of the helicity amplitudes which governs the angular distribution of the $D_{s1}(2536)^{-}\to\overline{D}^{*}(2007)^{0}K^{-}$ decay is determined from the data. The ratio of the $S$- and $D$-wave amplitudes is found to be $1.11\pm0.15\pm 0.06$ and its phase $0.70\pm0.09\pm 0.04$ rad, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

The decay $Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-$ is observed using a proton-proton collision data sample collected at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb$^{-1}$. This process is mediated by the $s\to u\bar{u}d$ quark-level transition, where the $b$ quark in the $Ξ_b^-$ baryon is a spectator in the decay. Averaging the results obtained using the two $Λ_b^0$ decay modes, $Λ_b^0\toΛ_c^+π^-$ and $Λ_b^0\toΛ_c^+π^-π^+π^-$, the relative production ratio is measured to be $(f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0}){\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-)=(7.3\pm0.8\pm0.6)\times10^{-4}$. Here the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and $f_{Ξ_b^-}(f_{Λ_b^0})$ is the fragmentation fraction for a $b$ quark into a $Ξ_b^-$ ($Λ_b^0$) baryon. Using an independent measurement of $f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0}$, the branching fraction ${\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-)=(0.89\pm0.10\pm0.07\pm0.29)\%$ is obtained, where the last uncertainty is due to the assumed SU(3) flavor symmetry in the determination of $f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0}$.

We present a "one-step" approach to modify ZnO electron transport layers (ETLs) used in organic solar cells. This approach involves adding benzoic acid (BZA) derivatives directly to the ZnO precursor solution, which are then present at the surface of the resulting ZnO film. We demonstrate this approach for three different BZA derivatives, namely benzoic acid, chlorobenzoic acid, and 4-hydrazinobenzoic acid. For all molecules, improved device performance and stability is demonstrated in solar cells using an active layer blend of PTQ10 (donor) and ITIC-Br (non-fullerene acceptor) compared to such cells prepared using untreated ZnO. Furthermore, similar or improved device performance and stability is demonstrated compared to conventional PEIE treatment of ZnO. The presence of the BZA derivatives at the surface after processing is established using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy. From atomic force microscopy analysis and X-ray diffraction studies, the addition of BZA derivatives appears to restrict ZnO grain growth; however, this does not negatively impact device performance. ZnO layers treated with BZA derivatives also exhibit higher water contact angle and lower work function compared to untreated ZnO. This approach enables simplification of device manufacture while still allowing optimization of the surface properties of metal oxide ETLs. Correlations of same-sign charged particles are analysed using proton-lead collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.06 nb-1. Bose-Einstein correlations are observed in the form of an enhancement of pair production for same-sign charged pions with a small four-momentum difference squared. The dependence of the correlation radius and the intercept parameter on the reconstructed charged-particle multiplicity is investigated. The measured correlation radii scale linearly with the cube root of the reconstructed charged-particle multiplicity, being compatible with predictions of hydrodynamic models on the collision system evolution.

The measurement is performed for $J/ψ$ ($\mathitΥ$) mesons with a transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}<10\,(30)\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ in the rapidity range $2.0<y<4.5$. In this kinematic range, the cross-section of the associated production of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ mesons is measured to be $133 \pm 22 \pm 7 \pm 3 \, \mathrm{pb}$, with a significance of $7.9\,σ$, and that of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(2S)$ mesons to be $76\pm 21 \pm 4 \pm 7 \, \mathrm{pb}$, with a significance of $4.9\,σ$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to uncertainties on the used branching fractions. This is the first observation of the associated production of $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ in proton-proton collisions. Differential cross-sections are measured as functions of variables that are sensitive to kinematic correlations between the $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ mesons. The effective cross-sections of the associated production of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ$ mesons are obtained and found to be compatible with measurements using other particle productions.

The LHCb upgrade represents a major change of the experiment. The detectors have been almost completely renewed to allow running at an instantaneous luminosity five times larger than that of the previous running periods. Readout of all detectors into an all-software trigger is central to the new design, facilitating the reconstruction of events at the maximum LHC interaction rate, and their selection in real time. The experiment's tracking system has been completely upgraded with a new pixel vertex detector, a silicon tracker upstream of the dipole magnet and three scintillating fibre tracking stations downstream of the magnet. The whole photon detection system of the RICH detectors has been renewed and the readout electronics of the calorimeter and muon systems have been fully overhauled. The first stage of the all-software trigger is implemented on a GPU farm. The output of the trigger provides a combination of totally reconstructed physics objects, such as tracks and vertices, ready for final analysis, and of entire events which need further offline reprocessing. This scheme required a complete revision of the computing model and rewriting of the experiment's software.

The measured ratio is $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}τ^+ν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}π^+π^-π^+) = 1.79 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.11$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is related to systematic effects. Using established branching fractions for the $B^0 \to D^{*-}π^+π^-π^+$ and $B^0 \to D^{*-}μ^+ν_μ$ modes, the lepton universality test, $\mathcal{R}(D^{*-}) \equiv \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}τ^+ν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}μ^+ν_μ)$ is calculated, $$ \mathcal{R}(D^{*-}) = 0.260 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.016 \pm 0.012\, , $$ where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainties on the external branching fractions. This result is consistent with the Standard Model prediction and with previous measurements.

A study of the $B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^-π^+$ and $B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^+π^-$ decays is performed using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV at the LHCb experiment. The $K^0_SK π$ invariant mass spectra from both decay modes reveal a rich content of charmonium resonances. New precise measurements of the $η_c$ and $η_c(2S)$ resonance parameters are performed and branching fraction measurements are obtained for $B^+$ decays to $η_c$, $J/ψ$, $η_c(2S)$ and $χ_{c1}$ resonances. In particular, the first observation and branching fraction measurement of $B^+ \to χ_{c0} K^0 π^+$ is reported as well as first measurements of the $B^+\to K^0K^+K^-π^+$ and $B^+\to K^0K^+K^+π^-$ branching fractions. Dalitz plot analyses of $η_c \to K^0_SKπ$ and $η_c(2S) \to K^0_SKπ$ decays are performed. A new measurement of the amplitude and phase of the $K π$ $S$-wave as functions of the $K π$ mass is performed, together with measurements of the $K^*_0(1430)$, $K^*_0(1950)$ and $a_0(1700)$ parameters. Finally, the branching fractions of $χ_{c1}$ decays to $K^*$ resonances are also measured.

A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay $B_s^{0}\rightarrowφφ$ is performed using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The $\it{CP}$-violating phase and direct $\it{CP}$-violation parameter are measured to be $φ_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 $ rad and $|λ|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 $, respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the $φφ$ system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding $φ_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 $ rad and $|λ|=1.009 \pm 0.030$. This is the most precise study of time-dependent $\it{CP} $ violation in a penguin-dominated $B$ meson decay. The results are consistent with $\it{CP} $ symmetry and with the Standard Model predictions.

The analysis uses a sample of beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. The signal signature corresponds to simultaneous peaks in the $μ^+μ^-$ and $π^-μ^+μ^-$ invariant masses. No evidence for an excess of events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction of the decay at ${\cal B}(D^{*}(2007)^0\toμ^+μ^-) < 2.6\times 10^{-8}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. This is the first limit on the branching fraction of $D^{*}(2007)^0\toμ^+μ^-$ decays and the most stringent limit on $D^{*}(2007)^0$ decays to leptonic final states. The analysis is the first search for a rare charm-meson decay exploiting production via beauty decays.

In this paper we study transitivity of partially hyperbolic endomorphisms of the two torus whose action in the first homology has two integer eigenvalues of moduli greater than one. We prove that if the Jacobian is everywhere greater than the modulus of the largest eigenvalue, then the map is robustly transitive. For this we introduce Blichfedt's theorem as a tool for extracting dynamical information from the action of a map in homology. We also treat the case of specially partially hyperbolic endomorphisms, for which we obtain a complete dichotomy: either the map is transitive and conjugated to its linear part, or its unstable foliation must contain an annulus which may either be wandering or periodic.

Dielectrophoresis is an electric field-based technique for moving neutral particles through a fluid. When used for particle separation, dielectrophoresis has many advantages compared to other methods, providing label-free operation with greater control of the separation forces. In this paper, we design, build, and test a low-voltage dielectrophoretic device using a 3D printing approach. This lab-on-a-chip device fits on a microscope glass slide and incorporates microfluidic channels for particle separation. First, we use multiphysics simulations to evaluate the separation efficiency of the prospective device and guide the design process. Second, we fabricate the device in PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) by using 3D-printed moulds that contain patterns of the channels and electrodes. The imprint of the electrodes is then filled with silver conductive paint, making a 9 pole comb electrode. Lastly, we evaluate the separation efficiency of our device by introducing a mixture of 3 $μ$m and 10 $μ$m polystyrene particles and tracking their progression. Our device is able to efficiently separate these particles when the electrodes are energized with $\pm$12 V at 75 kHz. Overall, our method allows the fabrication of cheap and effective dielectrophoretic microfluidic devices using commercial off-the-shelf equipment.

The residual stress plays a vital role in determination of the device performance that uses thin films coating and thus the accurate determination of stress and its optimization with process parameters is an ongoing research work for many decades. In line with this, the microscopic origin of the stress at the atomic scale and its development during the thin film deposition is a matter of major scientific interests. The development of stress is a complex phenomenon and has a complex dependence to process parameters, film microstructure and its morphology. In this work, by utilizing a custom-designed cathodic arc deposition system and synchrotron radiation based 2D x-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, we determine the real-time evolution of stress, crystallite sizes and their preferential orientations of Aluminum-Titanium-Nitride (AlxTi1-xN) films with varied Al-content (x=0.0, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.67) on Si-100 substrate. The energies of incoming ions and hence stress in the films is tuned by applying different direct current substrate bias (Vs = floating potential, -20, -40, -60, -80, and -100 V). The instantaneous stress is evaluated by the well-known d vs. sin2ψ technique, while crystallite sizes are determined by analyzing line profiles of x-ray diffractograms. The evolution of stress and crystallite sizes are modelled with multiple numerical models from which kinetic parameters associated with the thin film depositions are extracted. The ex-situ microstructure characterizations of AlxTi1-xN coatings are carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The formation of ex-situ microstructure of the films is discussed considering the results obtained from in-situ XRD data. Finally, we demonstrate that the method utilized here is a powerful approach towards estimation of the fracture toughness of thin film coatings.

A simultaneous analysis of the $B^+\to K^+\ell^+\ell^-$ and $B^0\to K^{*0}\ell^+\ell^-$ decays is performed to test muon-electron universality in two ranges of the square of the dilepton invariant mass, $q^2$. The measurement uses a sample of beauty meson decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9$ $\text{fb}^{-1}$. A sequence of multivariate selections and strict particle identification requirements produce a higher signal purity and a better statistical sensitivity per unit luminosity than previous LHCb lepton universality tests using the same decay modes. Residual backgrounds due to misidentified hadronic decays are studied using data and included in the fit model. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given $q^2$ interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ and $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{*0}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, $q^{2}$. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given $q^{2}$ interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13$\,\rm{TeV}$. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9$\,\rm{fb^{-1}}$. Two new resonant states with masses of $2.908\pm0.011\pm0.020\,\rm{GeV}$ and widths of $0.136\pm0.023\pm0.011\,\rm{GeV}$ are observed, which decay to $D^+_sπ^+$ and $D^+_sπ^-$ respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content $[c\bar{s}u\bar{d}]$, and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of $[c\bar{s}\bar{u}d]$ quarks. Both states are found to have spin-parity $0^+$, and their resonant parameters are consistent with each other, which suggests that they belong to an isospin triplet.

A measurement of $D^0$ meson production by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target configuration is presented. The production of $D^0$ mesons is studied with a beam of 2.5 TeV protons colliding on a gaseous neon target at rest, corresponding to a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 68.5 GeV. The sum of the $D^0$ and ${\overline D^0}$ production cross-section in $p$Ne collisions in the centre-of-mass rapidity range $y^{\star}\in [-2.29, 0]$ is found to be $σ_{D^{0}}^{y^\star \in [-2.29, 0]} = 48.2 \pm 0.3 \pm 4.5 \,μ\textrm{b/nucleon}$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The $D^0-{\overline D^0}$ production asymmetry is also evaluated and suggests a trend towards negative values at large negative $y^{\star}$. The considered models do not account precisely for all the features observed in the LHCb data, but theoretical predictions including 1$\%$ intrinsic charm and 10$\%$ recombination contributions better describe the data than the other models considered.

Liquid water within the cathode Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) and Gas Channel (GC) of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) is strongly coupled to gas transport properties, thereby affecting the electrochemical conversion rates. In this study, the GDL and GC regions are utilized as the simulation domain, which differs from previous studies that only focused on any one of them. A volume-of-fluid method is adopted to numerically investigate the two-phase flow (gas and liquid) behavior, e.g., water transport pattern evolution, water coverage ratio as well as local and total water saturation. To obtain GDL geometries, an in-house geometry-based method is developed for GDL reconstruction. Furthermore, to study the effect of GDL carbon fiber diameter, the same procedure is used to reconstruct three GDL structures by varying the carbon fiber diameter but kee** the porosity and geometric dimensions constant. The wall wettability is introduced with static contact angles at carbon fiber surfaces and channel walls. The results show that the GDL fiber microstructure has a significant impact on the two-phase flow patterns in the cathode field. Different stages of two-phase flow pattern evolution in both cathode domains are observed. Due to the difference in wettability, the water coverage of the GDL/GC interface is smaller than that of the channel side and top walls. It is also found that the water saturation inside the GDLs stabilizes after the water breakthrough, while local water saturation at the interface keeps irregular oscillations. Last but not the least, a water saturation balance requirement between the GDL and GC is observed. In terms of varying fiber diameter, a larger fiber diameter would result in less water saturation in the GDL but more water in the GC, in addition to faster water movement throughout the total domain.

Wall-bounded turbulence is relevant for many engineering and natural science applications, yet there are still aspects of its underlying physics that are not fully understood, particularly at high Reynolds numbers. In this study, we investigate fully-developed turbulent pipe flows at moderate-to-high friction velocity Reynolds numbers ($361 \leq Re_τ \leq 2,000$), corresponding to bulk velocity-based Reynolds numbers of $11,700 \leq Re_{b} \leq 82,500$, using wall-modeled Large Eddy Simulations (LES) in OpenFOAM. A grid convergence study is performed for $Re_τ = 361$, followed by an investigation of the accuracy of various subgrid-scale stress models for the same Reynolds number. Results show that the Wall-Adapting Local Eddy (WALE) model performs well compared to experiments and Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS), while One-Equation Eddy-Viscosity Model (OEEVM) and Smagorinsky (SMG) are too dissipative. LES utilizing WALE are then performed for four different Reynolds numbers with gradually refined grids, revealing excellent agreement with DNS data in the outer region. However, a significant deviation from DNS data is observed in the sub-viscous layer region, indicating the need for further mesh refinement in the wall-normal direction to accurately capture the smallest-scale motions' behavior. Additional mesh sensitivity analysis uncovered that, as the $Re_τ$ value rises, it becomes crucial for a grid to adhere to the condition of $Δx^{+} \leq 20 - 25$ and $Δz^{+} \leq 10$ in order to precisely capture substantial large and small scale fluctuations. Overall, the WALE model enables accurate numerical simulations of high-Reynolds-number, wall-bounded flows at a fraction of the computational cost required for temporal and spatial resolution of the inner layer.

A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as $X(3960)$, is observed in the $D_s^+ D_s^-$ invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be $3956\pm5\pm10$ MeV, $43\pm13\pm8$ MeV and $J^{PC}=0^{++}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of $c\bar{c}s\bar{s}$ quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the $D_s^+ D_s^-$ invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the $0^{++}$ assignment or by a $J/ψφ\leftrightarrow D_s^+ D_s^-$ coupled-channel effect.

The first observation of the $B^0_s\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-}$ decay and the measurement of its branching ratio relative to the $B^0\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-}$ decay are presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $9\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions recorded by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and $13\,\text{TeV}$ between 2011 and 2018. The decay is observed with more than $10$ standard deviations and the time-integrated ratio of branching fractions is determined to be \begin{align*}
\frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-})}{\mathcal{B}(B^0\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-})} = 0.269 \pm 0.032 \pm 0.011 \pm 0.008\, , \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the uncertainty of the fragmentation fraction ratio $f_s/f_d$. The $B^0_s\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-}$ branching fraction is calculated to be \begin{align*}
\mathcal{B}(B^0_s\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-}) = (2.15 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.16)\times 10^{-4} \,, \end{align*} where the fourth uncertainty is due to the $B^0\!\to D^{*+}D^{*-}$branching fraction. These results are calculated using the average $B^0_s$ meson lifetime in simulation. Correction factors are reported for scenarios where either a purely heavy or a purely light $B^0_s$ eigenstate is considered.

The modern workflow for radiation therapy treatment planning involves mathematical optimization to determine optimal treatment machine parameters for each patient case. The optimization problems can be computationally expensive, requiring iterative optimization algorithms to solve. In this work, we investigate a method for distributing the calculation of objective functions and gradients for radiation therapy optimization problems across computational nodes. We test our approach on the TROTS dataset -- which consists of optimization problems from real clinical patient cases -- using the IPOPT optimization solver in a leader/follower type approach for parallelization. We show that our approach can utilize multiple computational nodes efficiently, with a speedup of approximately 2-3.5 times compared to the serial version.
