The computation of two-loop amplitudes for the production of multiple Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons via gluon fusion with exact dependence on quark masses relies primarily on numerical methods. We propose a framework that enables their numerical evaluation in momentum space. The method is inspired by the factorization of infrared divergences in QCD scattering amplitudes. It extends techniques introduced for electroweak gauge boson production from quark-antiquark annihilation to processes with external gluons. By combining diagrammatic integrands, we make use of local cancellations between diagrams that automatically eliminate most non-factoring infrared singularities. With a limited number of counterterms, we then derive two-loop integrands for which all soft and collinear singularities factorize locally. We hope that the local subtraction techniques presented in this article will play a useful role in extending the local factorization formalism to two-loop amplitudes for arbitrary processes.

A Federated Learning (FL) system typically consists of two core processing entities: the federation controller and the learners. The controller is responsible for managing the execution of FL workflows across learners and the learners for training and evaluating federated models over their private datasets. While executing an FL workflow, the FL system has no control over the computational resources or data of the participating learners. Still, it is responsible for other operations, such as model aggregation, task dispatching, and scheduling. These computationally heavy operations generally need to be handled by the federation controller. Even though many FL systems have been recently proposed to facilitate the development of FL workflows, most of these systems overlook the scalability of the controller. To meet this need, we designed and developed a novel FL system called MetisFL, where the federation controller is the first-class citizen. MetisFL re-engineers all the operations conducted by the federation controller to accelerate the training of large-scale FL workflows. By quantitatively comparing MetisFL against other state-of-the-art FL systems, we empirically demonstrate that MetisFL leads to a 10-fold wall-clock time execution boost across a wide range of challenging FL workflows with increasing model sizes and federation sites.

The computational cost associated with reducing tensor integrals to scalar integrals using the Passarino-Veltman method is dominated by the diagonalisation of large systems of equations. These systems of equations are sized according to the number of independent tensor elements that can be constructed using the metric and external momenta. In this article, we present a closed-form solution of this diagonalisation problem in arbitrary tensor integrals. We employ a basis of tensors whose building blocks are the external momentum vectors and a metric tensor transverse to the space of external momenta. The scalar integral coefficients of the basis tensors are obtained by map** the basis elements to the elements of an orthogonaldual basis. This map** is succinctly expressed through a formula that resembles the ordering of operators in Wick's theorem. Finally, we provide examples demonstrating the application of our tensor reduction formula to Feynman diagrams in QCD $2 \to 2$ scattering processes, specifically up to three loops.

We develop a new way to analytically calculate loop integrals in the Effective Field Theory of Large Scale-Structure. Previous available methods show severe limitations beyond the one-loop power spectrum due to analytical challenges and computational and memory costs. Our new method is based on fitting the linear power spectrum with cosmology-independent functions that resemble integer powers of quantum field theory massive propagators with complex masses. A remarkable small number of them is sufficient to reach enough accuracy. Similarly to former approaches, the cosmology dependence is encoded in the coordinate vector of the expansion of the linear power spectrum in our basis. We first produce cosmology-independent tensors where each entry is the loop integral evaluated on a given combination of basis vectors. For each cosmology, the evaluation of a loop integral amounts to contracting this tensor with the coordinate vector of the linear power spectrum. The 3-dimensional loop integrals for our basis functions can be evaluated using techniques familiar to particle physics, such as recursion relations and Feynman parametrization. We apply our formalism to evaluate the one-loop bispectrum of galaxies in redshift space. The final analytical expressions are quite simple and can be evaluated with little computational and memory cost. We show that the same expressions resolve the integration of all one-loop $N$-point function in the EFTofLSS. This method, which is originally presented here, has already been applied in the first one-loop bispectrum analysis of the BOSS data to constraint $Λ$CDM parameters and primordial non-Gaussianities, see arXiv:2206.08327 and arXiv:2201.11518.

The amount of biomedical data continues to grow rapidly. However, collecting data from multiple sites for joint analysis remains challenging due to security, privacy, and regulatory concerns. To overcome this challenge, we use Federated Learning, which enables distributed training of neural network models over multiple data sources without sharing data. Each site trains the neural network over its private data for some time, then shares the neural network parameters (i.e., weights, gradients) with a Federation Controller, which in turn aggregates the local models, sends the resulting community model back to each site, and the process repeats. Our Federated Learning architecture, MetisFL, provides strong security and privacy. First, sample data never leaves a site. Second, neural network parameters are encrypted before transmission and the global neural model is computed under fully-homomorphic encryption. Finally, we use information-theoretic methods to limit information leakage from the neural model to prevent a curious site from performing model inversion or membership attacks. We present a thorough evaluation of the performance of secure, private federated learning in neuroimaging tasks, including for predicting Alzheimer's disease and estimating BrainAGE from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, in challenging, heterogeneous federated environments where sites have different amounts of data and statistical distributions.

Reduced-order modelling and low-dimensional surrogate models generated using machine learning algorithms have been widely applied in high-dimensional dynamical systems to improve the algorithmic efficiency. In this paper, we develop a system which combines reduced-order surrogate models with a novel data assimilation (DA) technique used to incorporate real-time observations from different physical spaces. We make use of local smooth surrogate functions which link the space of encoded system variables and the one of current observations to perform variational DA with a low computational cost. The new system, named Generalised Latent Assimilation can benefit both the efficiency provided by the reduced-order modelling and the accuracy of data assimilation. A theoretical analysis of the difference between surrogate and original assimilation cost function is also provided in this paper where an upper bound, depending on the size of the local training set, is given. The new approach is tested on a high-dimensional CFD application of a two-phase liquid flow with non-linear observation operators that current Latent Assimilation methods can not handle. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed assimilation approach can significantly improve the reconstruction and prediction accuracy of the deep learning surrogate model which is nearly 1000 times faster than the CFD simulation.

Federated learning (FL) enables distributed computation of machine learning models over various disparate, remote data sources, without requiring to transfer any individual data to a centralized location. This results in an improved generalizability of models and efficient scaling of computation as more sources and larger datasets are added to the federation. Nevertheless, recent membership attacks show that private or sensitive personal data can sometimes be leaked or inferred when model parameters or summary statistics are shared with a central site, requiring improved security solutions. In this work, we propose a framework for secure FL using fully-homomorphic encryption (FHE). Specifically, we use the CKKS construction, an approximate, floating point compatible scheme that benefits from ciphertext packing and rescaling. In our evaluation on large-scale brain MRI datasets, we use our proposed secure FL framework to train a deep learning model to predict a person's age from distributed MRI scans, a common benchmarking task, and demonstrate that there is no degradation in the learning performance between the encrypted and non-encrypted federated models.

We study the singularity structure of two-loop QED amplitudes for the production of multiple off-shell photons in massless electron-positron annihilation and develop counterterms that remove their infrared and ultraviolet divergences point by point in the loop integrand. The remainders of the subtraction are integrable in four dimensions and can be computed in the future with numerical integration. The counterterms capture the divergences of the amplitudes and factorize in terms of the Born amplitude and the finite remainder of the one-loop amplitude. They consist of simple one- and two-loop integrals with at most three external momenta and can be integrated analytically in a simple manner with established methods. We uncover novel aspects of fully local IR factorization, where vertex and self-energy subdiagrams must be modified by new symmetrizations over loop momenta, in order to expose their tree-like tensor structures and hence factorization of IR singularities prior to loop integration. This work is a first step towards isolating locally the hard contributions of generic gauge theory amplitudes and rendering them integrable in exactly four dimensions with numerical methods.

The second result we provide is the two-loop amplitude for the decay of a Higgs boson into a pair of massive bottom quarks through the Higgs-to-gluon coupling in the infinite top mass limit. Both amplitudes are computed by finding canonical bases of master integrals, which we evaluate explicitly in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. We obtain the bare, renormalized and IR-subtracted amplitude and provide the results in terms of building blocks suitable to changing renormalization schemes.

Our results constitute a necessary ingredient of a complete N$^3$LO determination of the cross-section. We perform our computation using a subtraction method for the treatment of soft and collinear singularities. We identify the infrared divergent parts in terms of universal splitting and eikonal functions, and demonstrate how phase-space integrations yield poles (up to $1/ε^6$ ) in the dimensional regulator $ε=(4-d)/2$. We compute the coefficients of the $ε$ expansion, including the finite part numerically. As a demonstration of our numerical implementation, we present the corrections at N$^3$LO due to one-loop amplitudes in the rapidity and transverse momentum of the Higgs boson.

Feynman amplitudes at higher orders in perturbation theory generically have complex singular structures. Notwithstanding the emergence of many powerful new methods, the presence of infrared divergences poses significant challenges for their evaluation. In this article, we develop a systematic method for the removal of the infrared singularities, by adding appropriate counterterms that approximate and cancel divergent limits point-by-point at the level of the integrand. We provide a proof of concept for our method by applying it to master-integrals that are found in scattering amplitudes for representative two-to-two scattering processes of massless particles. We demonstrate that, after the introduction of counterterms, the remainder is finite in four dimensions. In addition, we find in these cases that the complete singular dependence of the integrals can be obtained simply by analytically integrating the counterterms. Finally, we observe that our subtraction method can be also useful in order to extract in a simple way the asymptotic behavior of Feynman amplitudes in the limit of small mass parameters.

We compute the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to the cross section for the production of a Higgs boson via gluon fusion, in the limit of a small mass of the electroweak gauge bosons. This limit is regular and we calculate it by setting the W, Z masses to zero in the Feynman rules for their propagators. Our analytic results provide an independent check, in a non-trivial limit, of a recent exact computation for the three-loop mixed QCD and electroweak virtual corrections and the corresponding contribution to the cross section in the soft-virtual approximation. From our calculation in the small mass approximation, we can infer the second term in the expansion of the cross section around the threshold limit with its exact dependence on the masses of the W, Z bosons. Furthermore we find that in the small mass approximation the non-factorizable contributions from the real radiation, so far unknown for full gauge boson mass dependence, are modest in comparison to the known factorizable and virtual contributions to the full ${\cal O}(α_s^3 α^2)$ mixed QCD and electroweak cross-section. This furnishes a new phenomenological test of estimates for the mixed QCD and electroweak corrections, which were based on the hypothesis of factorization of QCD and electroweak corrections.

The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. We refine our prediction by taking into account the possibility that the scalar couples to the top-quark and computing the corresponding contributions through NLO in perturbative QCD. We assess the theoretical uncertainties of the cross section due to missing higher-order QCD effects and we provide the necessary information for obtaining the cross section value and uncertainty from our results in specific scenarios beyond the Standard Model. We present the most precise value for the Higgs boson cross-section in the gluon-fusion production mode at the LHC. Our result is based on a perturbative expansion through N$^3$LO in QCD, in an effective theory where the top-quark is assumed to be infinitely heavy, while all other Standard Model quarks are massless. We combine this result with QCD corrections to the cross-section where all finite quark-mass effects are included exactly through NLO. In addition, electroweak corrections and the first corrections in the inverse mass of the top-quark are incorporated at three loops. We also investigate the effects of threshold resummation, both in the traditional QCD framework and following a SCET approach, which resums a class of $π^2$ contributions to all orders. We assess the uncertainty of the cross-section from missing higher-order corrections due to both perturbative QCD effects beyond N$^3$LO and unknown mixed QCD-electroweak effects. In addition, we determine the sensitivity of the cross-section to the choice of parton distribution function (PDF) sets and to the parametric uncertainty in the strong coupling constant and quark masses. For a Higgs mass of $m_H = 125~{\rm GeV}$ and an LHC center-of-mass energy of $13~{\rm TeV}$, our best prediction for the gluon fusion cross-section is \[ σ= 48.58\,{\rm pb} {}^{+2.22\, {\rm pb}\, (+4.56\%)}_{-3.27\, {\rm pb}\, (-6.72\%)} \mbox{ (theory)} \pm 1.56 \,{\rm pb}\, (3.20\%) \mbox{ (PDF+$α_s$)} \]

We present methods to compute higher orders in the threshold expansion for the one-loop production of a Higgs boson in association with two partons at hadron colliders. This process contributes to the N$^3$LO Higgs production cross section beyond the soft-virtual approximation. We use reverse unitarity to expand the phase-space integrals in the small kinematic parameters and to reduce the coefficients of the expansion to a small set of master integrals. We describe two methods for the calculation of the master integrals. The first was introduced for the calculation of the soft triple-real radiation relevant to N$^3$LO Higgs production. The second uses a particular factorization of the three body phase-space measure and the knowledge of the scaling properties of the integral itself. Our result is presented as a Laurent expansion in the dimensional regulator, although some of the master integrals are computed to all orders in this parameter.

We present the cross-section for the production of a Higgs boson at hadron-colliders at next-to- next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in perturbative QCD. The calculation is based on a method to perform a series expansion of the partonic cross-section around the threshold limit to an arbitrary order. We perform this expansion to sufficiently high order to obtain the value of the hadronic cross at N3LO in the large top-mass limit. For renormalisation and factorisation scales equal to half the Higgs mass, the N3LO corrections are of the order of +2.2%. The total scale variation at N3LO is 3%, reducing the uncertainty due to missing higher order QCD corrections by a factor of three.

In this article, we compute the gluon fusion Higgs boson cross-section at N3LO through the second term in the threshold expansion. This calculation constitutes a major milestone towards the full N3LO cross section. Our result has the best formal accuracy in the threshold expansion currently available, and includes contributions from collinear regions besides subleading corrections from soft and hard regions, as well as certain logarithmically enhanced contributions for general kinematics. We use our results to perform a critical appraisal of the validity of the threshold approximation at N3LO in perturbative QCD.

We compute the NNLO QCD corrections for the hadroproduction of a pair of off-shell photons in the limit of a large number of quark flavors. We perform a reduction of the two-loop amplitude to master integrals and calculate the latter analytically as a Laurent series in the dimensional regulator using modern integration methods. Real radiation corrections are evaluated numerically with a direct subtraction of infrared limits which we cast in a simple factorized form. The results presented here constitute a gauge invariant part of the full NNLO corrections but are not necessarily dominant. We view this calculation as a step towards a complete computation. Our partial corrections to the total cross-section are about $1\%-3\%$ and vary with the virtuality of the two off-shell photons.

We compute the contributions to the N3LO inclusive Higgs boson cross-section from the square of one-loop amplitudes with a Higgs boson and three QCD partons as external states. Our result is a Taylor expansion in the dimensional regulator epsilon, where the coefficients of the expansion are analytic functions of the ratio of the Higgs boson mass and the partonic center of mass energy and they are valid for arbitrary values of this ratio. We also perform a threshold expansion around the limit of soft-parton radiation in the final state. The expressions for the coefficients of the threshold expansion are valid for arbitrary values of the dimension. As a by-product of the threshold expansion calculation, we have developed a soft expansion method at the integrand level by identifying the relevant soft and collinear regions for the loop-momentum.

We present the two first terms in the threshold expansion of Higgs production partonic cross-sections at hadron colliders for processes with three partons in the final state. These are contributions to the inclusive Higgs cross-section in gluon fusion at N3LO. We have developed a new technique for the expansion of the squared matrix-elements around the soft limit and for the reduction of the required phase-space integrals to only ten single-scale master integrals. We compute the master integrals building upon modern techniques for the integration of multidimensional integrals in dimensional regularization. N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory exhibits a rather surprising duality of Wilson-loop vacuum expectation values and scattering amplitudes. In this paper, we investigate this correspondence at the diagram level. We find that one-loop triangles, one-loop boxes, and two-loop diagonal boxes can be cast as simple one- and two- parametric integrals over a single propagator in configuration space. We observe that the two-loop Wilson-loop "hard-diagram" corresponds to a four-loop hexagon Feynman diagram. Guided by the diagrammatic correspondence of the configuration-space propagator and loop Feynman diagrams, we derive Feynman parameterizations of complicated planar and non-planar Feynman diagrams which simplify their evaluation. For illustration, we compute numerically a four-loop hexagon scalar Feynman diagram.

In this paper we study the production of a Higgs boson of mass 160 GeV in the gg -> H -> WW -> l nu l nu channel. We choose a set of cuts like those adopted in the experimental analysis and compare kinematical distributions of the final state leptons computed in NNLO QCD to lower-order calculations and to those obtained with the event generators PYTHIA, HERWIG and MC@NLO. We also show that the distribution of the output from an Artificial Neural Network obtained with the different tools does not show significant differences. However, the final acceptance computed with PYTHIA is smaller than those obtained at NNLO and with HERWIG and MC@NLO. We also investigate the impact of the underlying event and hadronization on our results.

We compute for the first time the two-loop corrections to arbitrary n-gon lightlike Wilson loops in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, using efficient numerical methods. The calculation is motivated by the remarkable agreement between the finite part of planar six-point MHV amplitudes and hexagon Wilson loops which has been observed at two loops. At n=6 we confirm that the ABDK/BDS ansatz must be corrected by adding a remainder function, which depends only on conformally invariant ratios of kinematic variables. We numerically compute remainder functions for n=7,8 and verify dual conformal invariance. Furthermore, we study simple and multiple collinear limits of the Wilson loop remainder functions and demonstrate that they have precisely the form required by the collinear factorisation of the corresponding two-loop n-point amplitudes. The number of distinct diagram topologies contributing to the n-gon Wilson loops does not increase with n, and there is a fixed number of "master integrals", which we have computed. Thus we have essentially computed general polygon Wilson loops, and if the correspondence with amplitudes continues to hold, all planar n-point two-loop MHV amplitudes in the N=4 theory.

We study the role of fermionic resonances in realistic composite Higgs models. We consider the low energy effective description of a model in which the Higgs arises as the pseudo-Goldstone boson of an SO(5)/SO(4) global symmetry breaking pattern. Assuming that only fermionic resonances are present below the cut-off of our effective theory, we perform a detailed analysis of the electroweak constraints on such a model. This includes the exact one-loop calculation of the T parameter and the anomalous Zbb coupling for arbitrary new fermions and couplings. Other relevant observables, like b to s gamma and Delta B=2 processes have also been examined. We find that, while minimal models are difficult to make compatible with electroweak precision tests, models with several fermionic resonances, such as the ones that appear in the spectrum of viable composite Higgs models from warped extra dimensions, are fully realistic in a large region of parameter space. These fermionic resonances could be the first observable signature of the model at the LHC.

Our result is the first independent check of the calculation of Spira, Djouadi, Graudenz and Zerwas. We also present for the first time the two-loop amplitude for gg -> h via a massive squark.

Abstract:
We develop a unitarity method to compute one-loop amplitudes with massless propagators in d=4-2*epsilon dimensions. We compute double cuts of the loop amplitudes via a decomposition into a four-dimensional and a -2*epsilon-dimensional integration. The four-dimensional integration is performed using spinor integration or other efficient techniques. The remaining integral in -2*epsilon dimensions…

The remaining integral in -2*epsilon dimensions is cast in terms of bubble, triangle, box, and pentagon master integrals using dimensional shift identities. The method yields results valid for arbitrary values of epsilon.

We study a phenomenological ansatz for merging next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculations with Monte Carlo event generators. We reweight them to match bin-integrated NNLO differential distributions. We study a phenomenological ansatz for merging next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculations with Monte Carlo event generators. We reweight them to match bin-integrated NNLO differential distributions. To test this procedure, we study the Higgs boson production cross-section at the LHC, for which a fully differential partonic NNLO calculation is available. We normalize PYTHIA and MC@NLO Monte Carlo events for Higgs production in the gluon fusion channel to reproduce the bin integrated NNLO double differential distribution in the transverse momentum and rapidity of the Higgs boson. These events are used to compute differential distributions for the photons in the pp \to H \to γγdecay channel, and are compared to predictions from fixed-order perturbation theory at NNLO. We find agreement between the reweighted generators and the NNLO result in kinematic regions where we expect a good description using fixed-order perturbation theory. Kinematic boundaries where resummation is required are also modeled correctly using this procedure. We then use these events to compute distributions in the pp \to H \to W^+W^- \to l^+l^- ν\barν channel, for which an accurate description is needed for measurements at the LHC. We find that the final state lepton distributions obtained from PYTHIA are not significantly changed by the reweighting procedure.

We present a new method for the numerical evaluation of arbitrary loop integrals in dimensional regularization. We first derive Mellin-Barnes integral representations and apply an algorithmic technique, based on the Cauchy theorem, to extract the divergent parts in the epsilon->0 limit. We then perform an epsilon-expansion and evaluate the integral coefficients of the expansion numerically. The method yields stable results in physical kinematic regions avoiding intricate analytic continuations. It can also be applied to evaluate both scalar and tensor integrals without employing reduction methods. We demonstrate our method with specific examples of infrared divergent integrals with many kinematic scales, such as two-loop and three-loop box integrals and tensor integrals of rank six for the one-loop hexagon topology.

Abstract:
We point out that the QCD corrections to the gluon-fusion Higgs boson production cross section at the LHC are very similar to the corrections to the Higgs decay rate into two gluons. Consequently, the ratio of these two quantities has a theoretical uncertainty smaller than the uncertainty in the cross section alone by a factor of two. We note that since this ratio is the theoretical input to ana…

We note that since this ratio is the theoretical input to analyses of Higgs coupling extractions at the LHC, the reduced uncertainty should be used; in previous studies, the full cross section uncertainty was employed.

We compute the complete O(alpha^2) QED corrections to the electron energy spectrum in unpolarized muon decay, including the full dependence on the electron mass. Our calculation reduces the theoretical uncertainty on the electron energy spectrum well below 10^{-4}, the precision anticipated by the TWIST experiment at TRIUMF, which is currently performing this measurement. For this calculation, we extend techniques we have recently developed for performing next-to-next-to-leading order computations to handle the decay spectra of massive particles. Such an extension enables further applications to precision predictions for b, t, and Higgs differential decay rates.
