We performed the experiment with a single trapped ^{171}Yb^{+} ion, by map** three ground states of the ^{171}Yb^{+} ion to a qutrit system and carrying out quantum operatations by applying microwaves resonant to the qutrit transition frequencies. Our results are free from the detection loophole and cannot be explained by the non-contextual hidden variable models.

Our numerical results show that the lowest energy states in all the three employed models are lying at $\sim$1800 MeV, about 200 MeV lower than predictions of various quenched three-quark models. In addition, it is very interesting that the state with the lowest energy in one gluon exchange model is with spin 3/2, but 1/2 in the other two models.

In this paper, we report on the study of Abelian and non-Abelian statistics through Fabry-Perot interferometry of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) systems. Our detection of phase slips in quantum interference experiments demonstrates a powerful, new way of detecting braiding of anyons. We confirm the Abelian anyonic braiding statistics in the $ν= 7/3$ FQH state through detection of the predicted statistical phase angle of $2π/3$, consistent with a change of the anyonic particle number by one. The $ν= 5/2$ FQH state is theoretically believed to harbor non-Abelian anyons which are Majorana, meaning that each pair of quasiparticles contain a neutral fermion orbital which can be occupied or unoccupied and hence can act as a qubit. In this case our observed statistical phase slips agree with a theoretical model where the Majoranas are strongly coupled to each other, and strongly coupled to the edge modes of the interferometer. In particular, an observed phase slip of approximately $π$ is interpreted as a sudden flip of a qubit, or entry of a neutral fermion into the interferometer. Our results provide compelling support for the existence of non-Abelian anyons.

In recent numerical simulations \citep{matsubayashi07,lockmann08}, it has been found that the eccentricity of supermassive black hole(SMBH) - intermediate black hole(IMBH) binaries grows toward unity through interactions with stellar background. This increase of eccentricity reduces the merging timescale of the binary through the gravitational radiation to the value well below the Hubble Time. It also gives the theoretical explanation of the existence of eccentric binary such as that in OJ287 \citep{lehto96, valtonen08}. In self-consistent N-body simulations, this increase of eccentricity is always observed. On the other hand, the result of scattering experiment between SMBH binaries and field stars \citep{quinlan96} indicated no increase of eccentricity. This discrepancy leaves the high eccentricity of the SMBH binaries in $N$-body simulations unexplained. Here we present a stellar-dynamical mechanism that drives the increase of the eccentricity of an SMBH binary with large mass ratio. There are two key processes involved. The first one is the Kozai mechanism under non-axisymmetric potential, which effectively randomizes the angular momenta of surrounding stars. The other is the selective ejection of stars with prograde orbits. Through these two mechanisms, field stars extract the orbital angular momentum of the SMBH binary. Our proposed mechanism causes the increase in the eccentricity of most of SMBH binaries, resulting in the rapid merger through gravitational wave radiation. Our result has given a definite solution to the "last-parsec problem".

The experimental value for the strong decay width, $Γ_{Λ(1405)\to (Σπ)^\circ}=50\pm 2$ MeV, is well reproduced with about 50% of five-quark admixture in the $Λ(1405)$. Important effects due to the configuration mixings among $Λ^{2}_{1}P_{A}$, $Λ^{2}_{8}P_{M}$ and $Λ^{4}_{8}P_{M}$ are found. In addition, transitions between the three- and five-quark components in the baryons turn out to be significant in both radiative and strong decays of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance.

If 20% admixtures of the $qqqq\bar{q}$ components in the proton are assumed, the theoretical value for the axial charge in our model is in good agreement with the empirical value, which can not be well reproduced in the traditional constituent quark model even though the $SU(6) \bigotimes O(3)$ symmetry breaking or relativistic effect is taken into account. We also predict an unity axial charge for $N^{*}(1440)$ with 30% $qqqq\bar{q}$ components constrained by the strong and electromagnetic decays.

In this work, we look for possible new physics effects on the electromagnetic charge and anapole form factors, $f_Q(q^2)$ and $f_A(q^2)$, for a massless Dirac neutrino, when these quantities are calculated in the context of an effective electroweak Yang-Mills theory, which induces the most general $SU_L(2)$--invariant Lorentz tensor structure of nonrenormalizable type for the $WWγ$ vertex. It is found that in this context, besides the standard model contribution, the additional contribution to $f_{Q}(q^2)$ and $f_{A}(q^2)$ ($f_{Q}^{O_W}(q^2)$ and $f_{A}^{O_W}(q^2)$, respectively) are gauge independent and finite functions of $q^2$ after adopting a renormalization scheme. These form factors, $f_{Q}^{O_W}(q^2)$ and $f_{A}^{O_W}(q^2)$, get contribution at the one loop level only from the proper neutrino electromagnetic vertex. Besides, the relation $f_{Q}^{eff}(q^2)=q^2f_{A}^{eff}(q^2)$ ($f_{Q}^{eff}(q^2)=f_{Q}^{SM}(q^2)+f_{Q}^{O_W}(q^2)$, $f_{A}^{eff}(q^2)=f_{A}^{SM}(q^2)+f_{A}^{O_W}(q^2)$) is still fulfilled and hence the relation $a_ν^{eff} = < r^2_ν > ^{eff} /6$ ($a_ν^{eff} = a_ν^{SM}+ a_ν^{O_W}$, $<r^2_ν > ^{eff} = < r^2_ν > ^{SM}+< r^2_ν > ^{O_W}$)is gotten, just as in the SM. Using the experimental constraint on the anomalous $WWγ$ vertex, a value for the additional contribution to the charge radius of $|< r^2_ν >^{O_W}| \lsim 10^{-34} cm^2$ is obtained, which is one order of magnitude lower than the SM value.

While the probability of the former is larger than that of the latter, its coefficient in the axial charge expression is exceptionally small. The magnitude of two of the corresponding coefficients of the $qqqq\bar q$ components are in contrast large and have the opposite sign. This result provides a phenomenological illustration of the recent unquenched lattice calculation result that the axial charge of the N(1535) resonance is very small, if not vanishing \cite{takah}. The result sets an upper limit on the magnitude of the probability of $qqqq\bar q$ components as well.

It is found that with admixture of 5-quark components with a proportion of 20% in the nucleon and 25-65% in the $N^{*}(1535)$ resonance the calculated helicity amplitude $A^{p}_{1/2}$ decreases at the photon point, $Q^{2}=0$ to the empirical range. The $qqqq\bar{q}$ components contain $s\bar s$ pairs, which is consistent with the substantial width for $Nη$ decay of the $N^{*}(1535)$. The best description of the momentum dependence of the empirical helicity amplitudes is obtained by assuming that the $qqqq\bar{q}$ components are more compact than the $qqq$ component. However, this version of extended quark model still does not lead to a satisfactory simultaneous description of both $A^{p}_{1/2}$ and $S^{p}_{1/2}$ although with significant improvement.

The contributions from the $u\bar u$, $d\bar d$ and $s\bar s$ components are given separately. It is shown that addition of $qqqq\bar q$ admixtures to the ground state baryons can improve the overall description of the magnetic moments of the baryon octet and decuplet in the quark model without SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking, beyond that of the different constituent masses of the strange and light-flavor quarks. The explicit flavor (and spin) wave functions for all the possible configurations of the $qqqq\bar q$ components with light and strange $q\bar q$ pairs are given for the baryon and octet and decuplet. Admixtures of ~ 10% of the $qqqq\bar q$ configuration where the flavor-spin symmetry is $[4]_{FS}[22]_F[22]_S$, which is likely to have the lowest energy, in particular reduces the deviation from the empirical values of the magnetic moments of the $Σ^ -$ and the $Ξ^0$ compared with the quark model.

The implications of the empirical signatures for the positivity of the strangeness magnetic moment $μ_s$, and the negativity of the strangeness contribution to the proton spin $Δ_s$, on the possible $uuds\bar s$ configurations of five quarks in the proton are analyzed. The empirical signs for the values of these two observables can only be obtained in configurations where the $uuds$ system is orbitally excited and the $\bar s$ quark is in the ground state. The configurations, in which the $\bar s$ is orbitally excited, which include the conventional $K^+Λ^0$ congfiguration, with the exception of that, in which the $uuds$ component has spin 2, yield negative values for $μ_s$. Here the strangeness spin $Δ_s$, the strangeness magnetic moment $μ_s$ and the axial coupling constant $G_A^s$ are calculated for all possible configurations of the $uuds\bar s$ component of the proton. In the configuration with $[4]_{FS}[22]_F[22]_S$ flavor-spin symmetry, which is likely to have the lowest energy, $μ_s$ is positive and $Δ_s\simeq G_A^s\simeq -1/3μ_s$.

We report on the first observation of hole whispering gallery lasers from semiconductor microcavities with three dimensional optical confinement, with thresholds potentially reducible to micro-to-nano ampere regimes according to a quadratic size-dependent reduction, due to ideal quantum wire properties of the naturally formed photonic quantum rings before imminent recombination in a dynamic steady state fashion. If the device size grows over a critical diameter, the quantum ring whispering gallery then begins to disappear. However, cooperative small hole arrays like 256x256 quantum ring emitters avoid the criticality and open a possibility of constructing practical dense electro-pumped micro-to-nano watt emitter arrays, amenable to mega-to-giga ring emitter chip development via present fabrication techniques.
