Both lattices are examples of non-trivial thermodynamics in less than two dimensions, where mean field theory does not apply. We used and explain a method based on ideas of graph theory and renormalization group theory to derive exact equations for appropriate variables that are similar to the restricted partition functions. We benchmark our method with Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations. The analysis of fixed points reveals information of location of the Fisher zeros and we provide a conjecture about the location of zeros in terms of the boundary of the basins of attraction.

We present a three-parameter family of analytic black-hole solutions in the bosonic sector of a four-dimensional supersymmetric model with matter fields in the adjoint representation. The solutions are endowed with curvature and torsional singularities which are both surrounded by an event horizon. They are asymptotically Lorentz flat, representing the torsional generalization of the Riegert black hole in conformal gravity. We compute the partition function to first order in the saddle-point approximation which turns out to be finite without any reference to boundary counterterms. We find a non-maximmally symmetric thermalized ground state, whose existence is relevant when studying Hawking-Page phase transitions. Finally, we discuss future directions regarding its extended phase space.

Also, notice that, by construction, our formalism recovers general relativity when in the limit of constant Newton's coupling. %
Two sub-models based on the scale-dependent cosmological model are confronted with recent observational data from:
i) the Hubble parameter $H(z)$,
ii) distance modulus $μ(z)$, and iii) baryon acoustic scale evolution as functions of redshift (BAO). %
The viability of the model is discussed, obtaining the best-fit parameters and the maximum likelihood contours for these observables. Finally, a joint analysis is performed for $H(z)$+$μ(z)$+BAO.

Based on the superconformal algebra we construct a dual operator that introduces a grading among bosonic generators independent of the boson/fermion grading of the superalgebra. This dual operator allows us to construct an action that is gauge invariant under the grading even bosonic generators. We provide a self-dual notion based on the dual operator. We use the definition of the dual operator to contruct a model with gauge invariance $SO(1,3)\times SU(N) \times U(1) \subset SU(2,2|N)$. The choice of a graded dual operator allows us to overcome technical difficulties of $U(N)$ unified theories based on the superconformal group. The gravity action reproduces the Einstein-Hilbert action in certain sector of the theory. The definition of the dual operator allows us to include fermionic matter in the gauge connection in a geometric manner. We give a summary with possible phenomenological parameters that are included in the model.

We construct a gauge theory based in the supergroup $G=SU(2,2|2)$ that generalizes MacDowell-Mansouri supergravity. This is done introducing an extended notion of Hodge operator in the form of an outer automorphism of $su(2,2|2)$-valued 2-form tensors. The model closely resembles a Yang-Mills theory -- including the action principle, equations of motion and gauge transformations -- which avoids the use of the otherwise complicated component formalism. The theory enjoys $H=SO(3,1)\times \mathbb{R} \times U(1)\times SU(2)$ off-shell symmetry whilst the broken symmetries $G/H$, translation-type symmetries and supersymmetry, can be recovered on surface of integrability conditions of the equations of motion, for which it suffices the Rarita-Schwinger equation and torsion-like constraints to hold. Using the \textit{matter ansatz} -- projecting the $1 \otimes 1/2$ reducible representation into the spin-$1/2$ irreducible sector -- we obtain (chiral) fermion models with gauge and gravity interactions.

In this work we obtain classical solutions of the bosonic sector of the supermembrane theory with two-form fluxes associated to a quantized constant $C_{\pm}$ background. This theory satisfies a flux condition on the worldvolume that induces monopoles over it. Classically it is stable as it does not contain string-like spikes with zero energy in distinction with the general case. At quantum level the bosonic membrane has a purely discrete spectrum but the relevance is that the same property holds for its supersymmetric spectrum. We find for this theory spinning membrane solutions, some of them including the presence of a non-vanishing symplectic gauge connection defined on its worldvolume in different approximations. By using the duality found between this theory and the so-called supermembrane with central charges, rotating membrane solutions found in that case, are also solutions of the M2-brane with $C_{\pm}$ fluxes. We generalize this result to other embeddings. We find new distinctive rotating membrane solutions, some of them including the presence of a non-vanishing symplectic gauge connection defined on its worldvolume. We obtain numerical and analytical solutions in different approximations characterizing the dynamics of the membrane with fluxes $C_{\pm}$ for different ansätze of the dynamical degrees of freedom. Finally we discuss the physical admissibility of some of these ansätze to model the components of the symplectic gauge field.

In supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, the observed particles come in fermion-boson pairs necessary for the realization of supersymmetry (SUSY). In spite of the expected abundance of super-partners for all the known particles, not a single supersymmetric pair has been reported to date. Although a hypothetical SUSY breaking mechanism, operating at high energy inaccessible to current experiments cannot be ruled out, this reduces SUSY's predictive power and it is unclear whether SUSY, in its standard form, can help reducing the remaining puzzles of the standard model (SM). Here we argue that SUSY can be realized in a different way, connecting spacetime and internal bosonic symmetries, combining bosonic gauge fields and fermionic matter particles in a single gauge field, a Lie superalgebra-valued connection. In this unconventional representation, states do not come in SUSY pairs, avoiding the doubling of particles and fields and SUSY is not a fully off-shell invariance of the action. The resulting systems are remarkably simple, closely resembling a standard quantum field theory and SUSY still emerges as a contingent symmetry that depends on the features of the vacuum/ground state. We illustrate the general construction with two examples: i) A 2+1 dimensional system based on the $osp(2,2|2)$ superalgebra, including Lorentz and $u(1)$ generators that describes graphene; ii) A supersymmetric extension of 3+1 conformal gravity with an $SU(2,2|2)$ connection that describes a gauge theory with an emergent chiral symmetry breaking, coupled to gravity. The extensions to higher odd and even dimensions, as well as the extensions to accommodate more general internal symmetries are also outlined.

The theory with this condition corresponds to a supermembrane with a $C_-$ flux. This sector of the M2-brane is very interesting since classically is stable as it does not contain string-like spikes with zero energy and at quantum level has a purely discrete supersymmetric spectrum. We find rotating solutions of the MIM2 equations of motion fulfilling all of the constraints. By showing that the MIM2 mass operator, contains the mass operator discussed in [Brugues, Rojo, Russo, Nucl. Phys. Finally, we find new distinctive rotating membrane solutions that include the presence of a new non-vanishing dynamical scalar field defined on its worldvolume.

It is argued that such models, where the scale-dependence appears as a correction to the classical $Λ$CDM evolution, have the potential of addressing the tensions between early and late time measurements of $H_0$. After defining criteria to parametrize this tension, we perform a numerical scan over the parameter space of the scale-dependent model, subject to these criteria. In this analysis, it is found that, indeed, the tension can be released.

We used Euler angles decomposition for arbitrary N and the generalized hedgehog Ansatz at finite Baryon density. The Skyrmions of high topological charge that we find represent smooth Baryonic layers whose properties can be computed explicitly. In particular, we determine the energy to Baryon charge ratio for any N showing the smoothness of the large N limit. The closeness to the BPS bound of these configurations can also be analyzed. The energy density profiles of these finite density Skyrmions have \textit{lasagna-like} shape in agreement with recent experimental findings. The shear modulus can be precisely estimated as well and our analytical result is close to recent numerical studies in the literature.

A Chern--Simons system in $2+1$ dimensions invariant under local Lorentz rotations, $SU(2)$ gauge transformations, and local $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry transformations is proposed. The field content is that of $(2+1)$-gravity plus an $SU(2)$ gauge field, a spin-1/2 fermion charged with respect to $SU(2)$ and a trivial free abelian gauge field. A peculiarity of the model is the absence of gravitini, although it includes gravity and supersymmetry. Likewise, no gauginos are present. All the parameters involved in the system are either protected by gauge invariance or emerge as integration constants. An effective mass and effective cosmological constant emerge by spontaneus breaking of local scaling invariance. The vacuum sector is defined by configurations with locally flat Lorentz and $SU(2)$ connections sporting nontrivial global charges. Three-dimensional Lorentz-flat geometries are spacetimes of locally constant negative --or zero--, Riemann curvature, which include Minkowski space, AdS$_3$, BTZ black holes, and point particles. These solutions admit different numbers of globally defined, covariantly constant spinors and are therefore good candidates for stable ground states. The fermionic sector in this system could describe the dynamics of electrons in graphene in the long wavelength limit near the Dirac points, with the spin degree of freedom of the electrons represented by the $SU(2)$ label. If this is the case, the $SU(2)$ gauge field would produce a spin-spin interaction giving rise to strong correlation of electron pairs.

Motivated by the possibility of explaining the 3.5 keV line through dark matter decaying to axion-like particles that subsequently convert to photons, we study ALP-photon conversion for sightlines passing within 50 pc of the galactic centre. Conversion depends on the galactic centre magnetic field which is highly uncertain. For fields at low or mid-range of observational estimates (10--100 $μ$G), no observable signal is possible. For fields at the high range of observational estimates (a pervasive poloidal mG field over the central 150 pc) it is possible to generate sufficient signal to explain recent observations of a 3.5 keV line in the galactic centre. In this scenario, the galactic centre line signal comes predominantly from the region with $z > 20$ pc, reconciling the results from the Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray telescopes. The dark matter to ALP to photon scenario also naturally predicts the non-observation of the 3.5 keV line in stacked galaxy spectra. We further explore predictions for the line flux in galaxies and suggest a set of galaxies that is optimised for observing the 3.5 keV line in this model.

In contrast to standard supergravity, the metric is not a fundamental field and is in the center of the superalgebra: it is not only invariant under the internal gauge group and under Lorentz transformations, but is also invariant under supersymmetry. The features of this theory that mark the difference with standard supersymmetry are: A) The number of fermionic and bosonic states is not necessarily the same; B) There are no superpartners with equal mass, "bosoninos", sleptons and squarks are absent; C) Although this supersymmetry originates in a local gauge theory and gravity is included, there is no gravitino; D) Fermions acquire mass from their coupling to the background or from self-couplings, while bosons remain massless. In odd dimensions, the Chern-Simons form provides an action that is quasi-invariant under the entire superalgebra. In even dimensions, the Yang-Mills form $ < F *F>$ is the only natural option, and the symmetry breaks down to [G x SO(1,D-1)]. In 4D, the construction follows the Townsend - Mac Dowell-Mansouri approach. Due to the absence of osp(4|2)-invariant traces in four dimensions, the resulting Lagrangian is only invariant under [U(1) x SO(3,1)], and includes a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio term. In this case, the Lagrangian depends on a single dimensionful parameter that fixes Newton's constant, the cosmological constant and the NJL coupling.

Abstract:
A local supersymmetric action for a (2+1)-dimensional system including gravity, the electromagnetic field and a Dirac spin-1/2 field is presented. The action is a Chern-Simons form for a connection of the OSp(2|2) group. All the fields enter as parts of the connection, that transforms in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. The system is off-shell invariant under local (gauge) supersymmetry. Although the supersymmetry is locally realized, there is no spin-3/2 gravitino, and is therefore not supergravity. The fields do not necessarily form supersymmetric doublets of equal mass, and moreover, the fermion may acquire mass through the coupling with the background geometry, while the bosons --the U(1) field and the spin connection-- remain massless.

We present an analytic study of the Potts model partition function on two different types of self-similar lattices of triangular shape with non integer Hausdorff dimension. Both types of lattices analyzed here are interesting examples of non-trivial thermodynamics in less than two dimensions. First, the Sierpinski gasket is considered. It is shown that, by introducing suitable geometric coefficients, it is possible to reduce the computation of the partition function to a dynamical system, whose variables are directly connected to (the arising of) frustration on macroscopic scales, and to determine the possible phases of the system. The same method is then used to analyse the Hanoi graph. Again, dynamical system theory provides a very elegant way to determine the phase diagram of the system. Then, exploiting the analysis of the basins of attractions of the corresponding dynamical systems, we construct various examples of self-similar lattices with more than one critical temperature. These multiple critical temperatures correspond to crossing phases with different degrees of frustration.

Abstract:
We compute the partition function of the Potts model with arbitrary values of $q$ and temperature on some strip lattices. We consider strips of width $L_y=2$, for three different lattices: square, diced and `shortest-path' (to be defined in the text). We also get the exact solution for strips of the Kagome lattice for widths $L_y=2,3,4,5$. As further examples we consider two lattices with differen…

We also get the exact solution for strips of the Kagome lattice for widths $L_y=2,3,4,5$. As further examples we consider two lattices with different type of regular symmetry: a strip with alternating layers of width $L_y=3$ and $L_y=m+2$, and a strip with variable width. Finally we make some remarks on the Fisher zeros for the Kagome lattice and their large q-limit.

In this thesis some systems with exotic symmetries, which are a peculiarity in 2+1 space-time dimensions, are studied. Coded in the exotic structure, there appear noncommutative coordinates and a phases structure. This kind of systems has attracted attention from different areas of physics independently. Among them, we can mention: theory of ray representations of Lie groups, anyon physics, some condensed matter systems, for instance the quantum Hall effect, planar gauge and gravitation theories, noncommutative field theory, noncommutative geometry, and noncommutative quantum mechanics. We focus our study in some topics on exotic nonrelativistic symmetries, such as the exotic Newton-Hooke group, the relation between such systems and the noncommutative Landau problem, the symmetries of noncommutative Landau problem, and of its supersymmetric extension. The exotic Newton-Hooke group corresponds to the nonrelativistic limit of the de Sitter groups, and has as a particular, flat limit the exotic Galilei group. For the exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry, we construct a free particle action, and realize a complete study of its classical and quantum properties. The Newton-Hooke system is intimately related with the noncommutative Landau problem, which we study apart. We show that the inclusion of spin degrees of freedom in the noncommutative Landau problem produces a natural integration of the exotic Newton-Hooke group with the conformal symmetry and supersymmetry.

A supersymmetric spin-1/2 particle in the noncommutative plane, subject to an arbitrary magnetic field, is considered, with particular attention paid to the homogeneous case. The system has three different phases, depending on the magnetic field. Due to supersymmetry, the boundary critical phase which separates the sub- and super-critical cases can be viewed as a reduction to the zero-energy eigensubspace. In the sub-critical phase the system is described by the superextension of exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry, combined with the conformal so(2,1) ~ su(1,1) symmetry; the latter is changed into so(3) ~ su(2) in the super-critical phase. In the critical phase the spin degrees of freedom are frozen and supersymmetry disappears.

It includes the exotic Newton-Hooke particle and the non-commutative Landau problem as special, isotropic and maximally anisotropic, cases. The system is described by the same (2+1)-dimensional exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry as in the isotropic case, and develops three different phases depending on the values of the two central charges. The special cases of the exotic Newton-Hooke particle and non-commutative Landau problem are shown to be characterized by additional, so(3) or so(2,1) Lie symmetry, which reflects their peculiar spectral properties.

A particle system with a (2+1)D exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry is constructed by the method of nonlinear realization. It has three essentially different phases depending on the values of the two central charges. The subcritical and supercritical phases (describing 2D isotropic ordinary and exotic oscillators) are separated by the critical phase (one-mode oscillator), and are related by a duality transformation. In the flat limit, the system transforms into a free Galilean exotic particle on the noncommutative plane. The wave equations carrying projective representations of the exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry are constructed.
