Abstract:
The formation of hadrons is a fundamental process in nature that can be investigated at particle colliders. As several recent findings demonstrate, with $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ collisions as a "vacuum-like" reference at one extreme, and central nucleus--nucleus as a dense, extended-size system characterized by flow and local equilibrium at the opposite extreme, different collision systems offer a lever…

The formation of hadrons is a fundamental process in nature that can be investigated at particle colliders. As several recent findings demonstrate, with $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ collisions as a "vacuum-like" reference at one extreme, and central nucleus--nucleus as a dense, extended-size system characterized by flow and local equilibrium at the opposite extreme, different collision systems offer a lever arm that can be exploited to probe with a range of heavy-flavour hadron species the onset of various hadronization processes. In this review, we present an overview of the theoretical and experimental developments. The focus is on open-heavy-flavour measurements. The comparison with model predictions and connections among the results in electron-positron, proton--proton, proton--nucleus, nucleus--nucleus collisions are discussed. After reviewing the current state, we suggest some prospects and future developments.

String Junctions Revisited
Authors:
Javira Altmann,

Abstract:
Recent measurements at the LHC have revealed heavy-flavour baryon fractions much larger than those observed at LEP, with e.g., LambdaC+/D0 and LambdaB0/B0 reaching ~ 0.5 at low pT. One scenario that has been at least partly successful in predicting observed trends is QCD colour reconnections with string junctions. In previous work, however, the limit of a low-pT heavy quark was not well defined. W…

We reconsider the string equations of motion for junction systems in this limit, and find that the junction effectively becomes bound to the heavy quark, a scenario we refer to as a "pearl on a string". We extend string-junction fragmentation in Pythia with a dedicated modelling of this limit for both light- and heavy-quark "pearls".

This paper is a write-up of the ideas that were presented, developed and discussed at the fourth International Workshop on QCD Challenges from pp to AA, which took place in February 2023 in Padua, Italy. The goal of the workshop was to focus on some of the open questions in the field of high-energy heavy-ion physics and to stimulate the formulation of concrete suggestions for making progresses on both the experimental and theoretical sides. The paper gives a brief introduction to each topic and then summarizes the primary results.

Today, intelligent user interfaces on the web often come in form of recommendation services tailoring content to individual users. Recommendation of web content such as news articles often requires a certain amount of explicit ratings to allow for satisfactory results, i.e., the selection of content actually relevant for the user. Yet, the collection of such explicit ratings is time-consuming and dependent on users' willingness to provide the required information on a regular basis. Thus, using implicit interest indicators can be a helpful complementation to relying on explicitly entered information only. Analysis of reading behavior on the web can be the basis for the derivation of such implicit indicators. Previous work has already identified several indicators and discussed how they can be used as a basis for user models. However, most earlier work is either of conceptual nature and does not involve studies to prove the suggested concepts or relies on meanwhile potentially outdated technology. All earlier discussions of the topic further have in common that they do not yet consider mobile contexts. This paper builds upon earlier work, however providing a major update regarding technology and web reading context, distinguishing between desktop and mobile settings. This update also allowed us to identify a set of new indicators that so far have not yet been discussed. This paper describes (i) our technical work, a framework for analyzing user interactions with the browser relying on latest web technologies, (ii) the implicit interest indicators we either revisited or newly identified, and (iii) the results of an online study on web reading behavior as a basis for derivation of interest we conducted with 96 participants.

We have investigated the evolution of the electronic properties of the t-t'-U Hubbard model with hole do** and temperature. Due to the shape of the Fermi surface, scattering from short wavelength spin fluctuations leads to strongly anisotropic quasi-particle scattering rates at low temperatures near half-filling. As a consequence, significant variations with momenta near the Fermi surface emerge for the spectral functions and the corresponding ARPES signals. This behavior is quite in contrast to the intermediate do** regime and we discuss the possible relevance of our results for the interpretation of photoemission spectra in cuprate superconductors at different hole do** levels.
