A datathon is a time-constrained competition involving data science applied to a specific problem. In the past decade, datathons have been shown to be a valuable bridge between fields and expertise . Biomedical data analysis represents a challenging area requiring collaboration between engineers, biologists and physicians to gain a better understanding of patient physiology and of guide decision processes for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic interventions to improve care practice. Here, we reflect on the outcomes of an event that we organized in Israel at the end of March 2022 between the MIT Critical Data group, Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam) and the Technion Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) in Haifa. Participants were asked to complete a survey about their skills and interests, which enabled us to identify current needs in machine learning training for medical problem applications. This work describes opportunities and limitations in medical data science in the Israeli context.

We experimentally study stochastic resonance in a nonlinear bistable nanomechanical resonator. The device consists of a PdAu doubly clamped beam serving as a nanomechanical resonator excited capacitively by an adjacent gate electrode and its vibrations are detected optically. We experimentally study stochastic resonance in a nonlinear bistable nanomechanical resonator. The device consists of a PdAu doubly clamped beam serving as a nanomechanical resonator excited capacitively by an adjacent gate electrode and its vibrations are detected optically. The resonator is tuned to its bistability region by an intense pump near a point of equal transition rates between its two metastable states. The pump is amplitude modulated, inducing modulation of the activation barrier between the states. When noise is added to the excitation, the resonator's displacement exhibits noise dependent amplification. We measure the resonator's response in the time and frequency domains, the spectral amplification and the statistical distribution of the jump time.

We study mechanical amplification and noise squeezing in a nonlinear nanomechanical resonator driven by an intense pump near its dynamical bifurcation point, namely, the onset of Duffing bistability. We study mechanical amplification and noise squeezing in a nonlinear nanomechanical resonator driven by an intense pump near its dynamical bifurcation point, namely, the onset of Duffing bistability. Phase sensitive amplification is achieved by a homodyne detection scheme, where the displacement detector's output, which has correlated spectrum around the pump frequency, is down converted by mixing with a local oscillator operating at the pump frequency with an adjustable phase. The down converted signal at the mixer's output could be either amplified or deamplified, yielding noise squeezing, depending on the local oscillator phase.

In this work we use a micromechanical resonator to experimentally study small signal amplification near the onset of Duffing bistability. The device consists of a PdAu beam serving as a micromechanical resonator excited by an adjacent gate electrode. A large pump signal drives the resonator near the onset of bistability, enabling amplification of small signals in a narrow bandwidth. To first order, the amplification is inversely proportional to the frequency difference between the pump and signal. We estimate the gain to be about 15dB for our device.
