Optical heterodyne detection is a powerful technique for characterizing a wide range of physical excitations. Here, we use two types of optical heterodyne detection techniques (fundamental and parametric pum**) to microscopically characterize the high-frequency auto-oscillations of single and multiple nano-constriction spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs). To validate the technique and demonstrate its robustness, we study SHNOs made from two different material stacks, NiFe/Pt and W/CoFeB/MgO, and investigate the influence of both the RF injection power and the laser power on the measurements, comparing the optical results to conventional electrical measurements. To demonstrate the key features of direct, non-invasive, submicron, spatial, and phase-resolved characterization of the SHNO magnetodynamics, we map out the auto-oscillation magnitude and phase of two phase-binarized SHNOs used in Ising Machines. This proof-of-concept platform establishes a strong foundation for further extensions, contributing to the ongoing development of crucial characterization techniques for emerging computing technologies based on spintronics devices

Given the reproducing kernel $k$ of the Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_k$ we study spaces $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ whose reproducing kernel has the form $k(1-bb^*)$, where $b$ is a row-contraction on $\mathcal{H}_k$. In terms of reproducing kernels this it the most far-reaching generalization of the classical de Branges-Rovnyaks spaces, as well as their very recent generalization to several variables. This includes the so called sub-Bergman spaces in one or several variables. We study some general properties of $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ e.g. when the inclusion map into $\mathcal{H}$ is compact. Our main result provides a model for $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ reminiscent of the Sz.-Nagy-Foiaş model for contractions. As an application we obtain sufficient conditions for the containment and density of the linear span of $\{k_w:w\in\mathcal{X}\}$ in $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$. In the standard cases this reduces to containment and density of polynomials. These methods resolve a very recent conjecture regarding polynomial approximation in spaces with kernel $\frac{(1-b(z)b(w)^*)^m}{(1-z\overline w)^β}, 1\leq m<β, m\in\mathbb{N}$.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a complex psychiatric disorder that affects the lives of hundreds of millions of individuals around the globe. Even today, researchers debate if morphological alterations in the brain are linked to MDD, likely due to the heterogeneity of this disorder. The application of deep learning tools to neuroimaging data, capable of capturing complex non-linear patterns, has the potential to provide diagnostic and predictive biomarkers for MDD. However, previous attempts to demarcate MDD patients and healthy controls (HC) based on segmented cortical features via linear machine learning approaches have reported low accuracies. In this study, we used globally representative data from the ENIGMA-MDD working group containing an extensive sample of people with MDD (N=2,772) and HC (N=4,240), which allows a comprehensive analysis with generalizable results. Based on the hypothesis that integration of vertex-wise cortical features can improve classification performance, we evaluated the classification of a DenseNet and a Support Vector Machine (SVM), with the expectation that the former would outperform the latter. As we analyzed a multi-site sample, we additionally applied the ComBat harmonization tool to remove potential nuisance effects of site. We found that both classifiers exhibited close to chance performance (balanced accuracy DenseNet: 51%; SVM: 53%), when estimated on unseen sites. Slightly higher classification performance (balanced accuracy DenseNet: 58%; SVM: 55%) was found when the cross-validation folds contained subjects from all sites, indicating site effect. In conclusion, the integration of vertex-wise morphometric features and the use of the non-linear classifier did not lead to the differentiability between MDD and HC. Our results support the notion that MDD classification on this combination of features and classifiers is unfeasible.

We are concerned with the study of the boundedness of operators in the algebra $\mathcal{A}_g$ generated by the above operators acting on Hardy, or standard weighted Bergman spaces on the disc. The general question is certainly very challenging, since operators in $\mathcal{A}_g$ are finite linear combinations of finite products (words) of $T_g,S_g,M_g$ which may involve a large amount of cancellations to be understood. The results in the paper "Composition of analytic paraproducts, J. Math. Pures Appl. 158 (2022) 293--319" show that boundedness of operators in a fairly large subclass of $\mathcal{A}_g$ can be characterized by one of the conditions $g\in H^\infty$, or $g^n$ belongs to $BMOA$ or the Bloch space, for some integer $n>0$. However, it is also proved that there are many operators, even single words in $\mathcal{A}_g$ whose boundedness cannot be described in terms of these conditions. The present paper provides a considerable progress in this direction. Our main result provides a complete quantitative characterization of the boundedness of an arbitrary word in $\mathcal{A}_g$ in terms of a ``fractional power'' of the symbol $g$, that only depends on the number of appearances of each of the letters $T_g,S_g,M_g$ in the given word.

Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a space of analytic functions on the unit ball $\mathbb B_d$ in $\mathbb C^d$ with multiplier algebra $\mathrm{Mult}(\mathcal{H})$. A function $f\in \mathcal{H}$ is called cyclic if the set $[f]$, the closure of $\{\varphi f:\varphi \in \mathrm{Mult}(\mathcal{H})\}$, equals $\mathcal{H}$. For multipliers we also consider a weakened form of the cyclicity concept. Namely for $n\in \mathbb N_0$ we consider the classes $$\mathcal{C}_n(\mathcal{H})=\{\varphi \in \mathrm{Mult}(\mathcal H):\varphi\ne 0, [\varphi^n]=[\varphi^{n+1}]\}.$$ Many of our results hold for $N$:th order radially weighted Besov spaces on $\mathbb B_d$, but we describe our results only for the Drury-Arveson space $H^2_d$ here. Letting $\mathbb C_{stable}[z]$ denote the stable polynomials for $\mathbb B_d$, i.e. the $d$-variable complex polynomials without zeros in $\mathbb B_d $, we show that \begin{align*} &\text{ if }d \text{ is odd, then } \mathbb C_{stable}[z]\subseteq \mathcal C_{\frac{d-1}{2}}(H^2_d), \text{ and }\\ &\text{ if }d \text{ is even, then } \mathbb C_{stable}[z]\subseteq \mathcal C_{\frac{d}{2}-1}(H^2_d).\end{align*} For $d=2$ and $d=4$ these inclusions are the best possible, but in general we can only show that if $0\le n\le \frac{d}{4}-1$, then $\mathbb C_{stable}[z]\nsubseteq \mathcal C_n(H^2_d)$. For functions other than polynomials we show that if $f,g\in H^2_d$ such that $f/g\in H^\infty$ and $f$ is cyclic, then $g$ is cyclic. We use this to prove that if $f,g\in H^2_d$ extend to be analytic in a neighborhood of $\overline{\mathbb B_d }$, have no zeros in $\mathbb B_d $, and their zero sets coincide on the boundary, then $f$ is cyclic if and only if $g$ is cyclic. Furthermore, if for $f\in H^2_d\cap C(\overline{\mathbb B_d })$ the set $Z(f)\cap \partial \mathbb B_d$ embeds a cube of real dimension $\ge 3$, then $f$ is not cyclic in the Drury-Arveson space.

We model the spectrograph for the Gemini Planet Imager upgrade (GPI 2.0) and assess the instrument's potential for allowing observers to constrain exoplanet properties through analysis of near-infrared spectra. We simulated noisy observations followed by calculations of posterior distributions from maximum likelihood comparison with the Sonora 2018 model grid. Preliminary results suggest that GPI 2.0 should allow observers to constrain temperature with sufficient accuracy, but gravity remains largely uncertain. We also explore the effects of incorporating convolution with the instrument line spread function into our simulation and compare the results with our preliminary findings.

Machine learning (ML) techniques have gained popularity in the neuroimaging field due to their potential for classifying neuropsychiatric disorders. However, the diagnostic predictive power of the existing algorithms has been limited by small sample sizes, lack of representativeness, data leakage, and/or overfitting. Here, we overcome these limitations with the largest multi-site sample size to date (n=5,356) to provide a generalizable ML classification benchmark of major depressive disorder (MDD). Using brain measures from standardized ENIGMA analysis pipelines in FreeSurfer, we were able to classify MDD vs healthy controls (HC) with around 62% balanced accuracy, but when harmonizing the data using ComBat balanced accuracy dropped to approximately 52%. Similar results were observed in stratified groups according to age of onset, antidepressant use, number of episodes and sex. Future studies incorporating higher dimensional brain imaging/phenotype features, and/or using more advanced machine and deep learning methods may achieve more encouraging prospects.

They show that every function $f$ in a Hilbert function space with a normalized complete Pick reproducing kernel has a factorization of the type $f=\varphi g$, where $g$ is cyclic, $\varphi$ is a contractive multiplier, and $\|f\|=\|g\|$. In this paper we show that if the cyclic factor is assumed to be what we call free outer, then the factors are essentially unique, and we give a characterization of the factors that is intrinsic to the space. That lets us compute examples. We also provide several applications of this factorization.

A 532 nm continuous wave laser is focused down to a spot size of about 500 nm at a power ranging from 0 to 12 mW. Through a comparison with resistive heating, we estimate a local temperature rise of about 8 K/mW. We demonstrate reversible laser tuning of the threshold current, the frequency, and the peak power, and find that the SHNO frequency can be tuned by up to 350 MHz, which is over three times more than the current tuning alone. Increasing the temperature also results in increased signal jitter, an increased threshold current, and a reduced maximum current for auto-oscillations. Our results open up for optical control of single SHNOs in larger SHNO networks without the need for additional voltage gates.

The boundedness of these operators on various spaces of analytic functions on $\mathbb{D}$ is well understood. The original motivation for this work is to understand the boundedness of compositions of two of these operators, for example $T_g^2, \,T_gS_g,\, M_gT_g$, etc. Our methods yield a characterization of the boundedness of a large class of operators contained in the algebra generated by these analytic paraproducts acting on the classical weighted Bergman and Hardy spaces in terms of the symbol $g$. In some cases it turns out that this property is not affected by cancellation, while in others it requires stronger and more subtle restrictions on the oscillation of the symbol $g$ than the case of a single paraproduct.

In this paper, we discuss the upgrades to the GPI IFS. This primarily focuses on the design and performance improvements of new prisms and filters. This includes an improved high-resolution prism which will provide more evenly dispersed spectra across y, J, H and K-bands. Additionally, we discuss the design and implementation of a new low-resolution mode and prism which allow for imaging of all four bands (y, J, H and K-bands) simultaneously at R=10. We explore the possibility of using a multiband filter which would block the light between the four spectral bands. We discuss possible performance improvements from the multiband filter, if implemented. Finally we explore the possibility of making small changes to the optical design to improve the IFS's performance near the edge of the field of view.

Multipliers of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces can be characterized in terms of positivity of $n \times n$ matrices analogous to the classical Pick matrix. We study for which reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces it suffices to consider matrices of bounded size $n$. We connect this problem to the notion of subhomogeneity of non-selfadjoint operator algebras. Our main results show that multiplier algebras of many Hilbert spaces of analytic functions, such as the Dirichlet space and the Drury-Arveson space, are not subhomogeneous, and hence one has to test Pick matrices of arbitrarily large matrix size $n$. To treat the Drury-Arveson space, we show that multiplier algebras of certain weighted Dirichlet spaces on the disc embed completely isometrically into the multiplier algebra of the Drury-Arveson space.

Controlling the directionality of spin waves is a key ingredient in wave-based computing methods such as magnonics. In this paper, we demonstrate this particular aspect by using an all-optical point-like source of continuous spin waves based on frequency comb rapid demagnetization. The emitted spin waves contain a range of k-vectors and by detuning the applied magnetic field slightly off the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR), we observe X-shaped caustic spin-wave patterns at $70^{\circ}$ propagation angles as predicted by theory. When the harmonic of the light source approaches theFMR, the caustic pattern gives way to uniaxial spin-wave propagation perpendicular to the in-plane component of the applied field. This field-controlled propagation pattern and directionality of optically emitted short-wavelength spin waves provide additional degrees of freedom when designing magnonic devices.

We demonstrate sustained coherent emission of spin waves in NiFe films using rapid demagnetization from high repetition rate femtosecond laser pulse trains. As the pulse separation is shorter than the magnon decay time, magnons having a frequency equal to a multiple of the 1 GHz repetition-rate are coherently amplified. Using scanning micro-Brillouin Light Scattering (BLS) we observe this coherent amplification as strong peaks spaced 1 GHz apart. The BLS counts vs. laser power exhibit a stronger than parabolic dependence consistent with counts being proportional to the square of the magnetodynamic amplitude, and the demagnetization pulse strength being described by a Bloch law. Spatial spin wave map** demonstrates how both localized and propagating spin waves can be excited, and how the propagation direction can be directly controlled. Our results demonstrate the versatility of BLS spectroscopy for rapid demagnetization studies and enable a new platform for photo-magnonics where sustained coherent spin waves can be utilized.

We investigate in detail the connection between harmonic maps from Riemann surfaces into the unitary group $\U(n)$ and their Grassmannian models: these are families of shift-invariant subspaces of $L^2(S^1,\C^n)$. With the help of operator-theoretic methods we derive a criterion for finiteness of the uniton number which has a large number of applications discussed in the paper.

We test three different convolutional neural net architectures (VGGNet, ResNet and Inception) over 2D maps of geometric features. Further, we present a novel geometry feature augmentation technique based on a parametric spherical map**. Finally, we present an approach for model decision visualization, allowing human raters to see the areas of subcortical shapes most likely to be deemed of failing quality by the machine. Our training data is comprised of 5200 subjects from the ENIGMA Schizophrenia MRI cohorts, and our test dataset contains 1500 subjects from the ENIGMA Major Depressive Disorder cohorts. Our final models reduce human rater time by 46-70%. ResNet outperforms VGGNet and Inception for all of our predictive tasks.

Our results imply that for all such weights $ω$ and $ν$, every bounded column multiplication operator $B^s_ω\to B^t_ν\otimes \ell^2$ induces a bounded row multiplier $B^s_ω\otimes \ell^2 \to B^t_ν$. Furthermore we show that if a weight $ω$ satisfies that for some $α>-1$ the ratio $ω(z)/(1-|z|^2)^α$ is nondecreasing for $t_0<|z|<1$, then $B^s_ω$ is a complete Pick space, whenever $s\ge (α+d)/2$.

We also identify a large class of spaces which are similar to the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces and prove some results which are new even in the classical case.

We show that $\mathcal H\odot\mathcal H$ is contained in the Smirnov class of $\mathcal H$, i.e. every function in $\mathcal H\odot\mathcal H$ is a quotient of two multipliers of $\mathcal H$, where the function in the denominator can be chosen to be cyclic in $\mathcal H$. As a consequence we show that the map $\mathcal N \to clos_{\mathcal H\odot\mathcal H} \mathcal N$ establishes a 1-1 and onto correspondence between the multiplier invariant subspaces of $\mathcal H$ and of $\mathcal H\odot\mathcal H$.
The results hold for many weighted Besov spaces $\mathcal H$ in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^d$ provided the reproducing kernel has the complete Pick property. One of our main technical lemmas states that for weighted Besov spaces $\mathcal H$ that satisfy what we call the multiplier inclusion condition any bounded column multiplication operator $\mathcal H \to \oplus_{n=1}^\infty \mathcal H$ induces a bounded row multiplication operator $\oplus_{n=1}^\infty \mathcal H \to \mathcal H$. For the Drury-Arveson space $H^2_d$ this leads to an alternate proof of the characterization of interpolating sequences in terms of weak separation and Carleson measure conditions.

Few attempts have so far been made to address this issue with machine learning. In this work, we optimize predictive models of quality for meshes representing deep brain structure shapes. We use standard vertex-wise and global shape features computed homologously across 19 cohorts and over 7500 human-rated subjects, training kernelized Support Vector Machine and Gradient Boosted Decision Trees classifiers to detect meshes of failing quality. Our models generalize across datasets and diseases, reducing human workload by 30-70\%, or equivalently hundreds of human rater hours for datasets of comparable size, with recall rates approaching inter-rater reliability.

We identify, through a change of variables, solution operators for evolution equations with generators given by certain simple first-order differential operators acting on Fock spaces. This analysis applies, through unitary equivalence, to a broad class of supersymmetric quadratic multiplication-differentiation operators acting on $L^2(\Bbb{R}^n)$ which includes the elliptic and weakly elliptic quadratic operators. We demonstrate a variety of sharp results on boundedness, decay, and return to equilibrium for these solution operators, connecting the short-time behavior with the range of the symbol and the long-time behavior with the eigenvalues of their generators. This is particularly striking when it allows for the definition of solution operators which are compact and regularizing for large times for certain operators whose spectrum is the entire complex plane.

We prove that $L$ is spanned by functions vanishing outside some closed interval $I\subset(a,b)$ and monomial exponentials $x^ke^{λx}$ corresponding to $Λ$ if its density does not exceed the critical value $\frac{|I|}{2π}$, and moreover, we show that the result is not necessarily true when the density of $Λ$ equals the critical value. This answers a question posed by the first author and B. Korenblum. Finally, if the residual part of $L$ is trivial, then $L$ is spanned by the monomial exponentials it contains.

The theory of symmetric, non-selfadjoint operators has several deep applications to the complex function theory of certain reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of analytic functions, as well as to the study of ordinary differential operators such as Schrodinger operators in mathematical physics. Examples of simple symmetric operators include multiplication operators on various spaces of analytic functions such as model subspaces of Hardy spaces, deBranges-Rovnyak spaces and Herglotz spaces, ordinary differential operators (including Schrodinger operators from quantum mechanics), Toeplitz operators, and infinite Jacobi matrices.
In this paper we develop a general representation theory of simple symmetric operators with equal deficiency indices, and obtain a collection of results which refine and extend classical works of Krein and Livsic. In particular we provide an alternative proof of a theorem of Livsic which characterizes when two simple symmetric operators with equal deficiency indices are unitarily equivalent, and we provide a new, more easily computable formula for the Livsic characteristic function of a simple symmetric operator with equal deficiency indices.
