Due to an ever-expansive network deployment, numerous questions are being raised regarding the energy consumption of the mobile network. Recently, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) have proven to be a useful, and complementary solution to Terrestrial Networks (TN) to provide ubiquitous coverage. In this paper, we consider an integrated TN-NTN, and study how to maximize its resource usage in a dynamic traffic scenario. We introduce BLASTER, a framework designed to control User Equipment (UE) association, Base Station (BS) transmit power and activation, and bandwidth allocation between the terrestrial and non-terrestrial tiers. Our proposal is able to adapt to fluctuating daily traffic, focusing on reducing power consumption throughout the network during low traffic and distributing the load otherwise. Simulation results show an average daily decrease of total power consumption by 45% compared to a network model following 3GPP recommendation, as well as an average throughput increase of roughly 250%. Our paper underlines the central and dynamic role that the NTN plays in improving key areas of concern for network flexibility.

Image annotation is one of the most essential tasks for guaranteeing proper treatment for patients and tracking progress over the course of therapy in the field of medical imaging and disease diagnosis. However, manually annotating a lot of 2D and 3D imaging data can be extremely tedious. Deep Learning (DL) based segmentation algorithms have completely transformed this process and made it possible to automate image segmentation. By accurately segmenting medical images, these algorithms can greatly minimize the time and effort necessary for manual annotation. Additionally, by incorporating Active Learning (AL) methods, these segmentation algorithms can perform far more effectively with a smaller amount of ground truth data. We introduce MedDeepCyleAL, an end-to-end framework implementing the complete AL cycle. It provides researchers with the flexibility to choose the type of deep learning model they wish to employ and includes an annotation tool that supports the classification and segmentation of medical images. The user-friendly interface allows for easy alteration of the AL and DL model settings through a configuration file, requiring no prior programming experience. While MedDeepCyleAL can be applied to any kind of image data, we have specifically applied it to ophthalmology data in this project.

Spatial-temporal sharing of sunlight between solar modules and crops needs to be designed optimally in agrivoltaics (AV). For AV with fixed module tilts, the sunlight balance is governed through the spatial density and elevation of the modules which cannot be manipulated after the installation. For flexible food-energy balancing across various seasons and crop rotations, modules with single or dual axis mobility can be best suitable. AV tracking must be geared towards ensuring a desired sunlight balance that may depend on many factors including the crop type, module array density, socio-economic factors, and local policies. Here, we explore single axis customized tracking (CT) for the mobile AV using a techno-economic model that incorporates design parameters including crop's shade sensitivity, module to land area ratio, and module types, as well as the economic parameters including soft and hardware costs for modules, feed-in-tariff, and crop income. CT is implemented through standard tracking that tracks the sun around noon hours and its orthogonal, i.e., anti-tracking around sunrise and sunset. We evaluate the optimal CT schemes that can maximize economic performance while ensuring the desired food-energy yield thresholds. Economic feasibility for AV is evaluated in terms of the ratio (ppr) of the price for the module system customizations to the performance benefit due to the crop income. A case study for Punjab, Pakistan shows that CT schemes for moderate shade sensitive crops and typically dense AV module arrays can require 30 to 40 percent increase in the reference FIT to ensure the food-energy yield threshold of 80 percent relative to standalone food-energy farms for high and low value crops, respectively. CT schemes for a lower crop yield threshold of 70 percent require the corresponding increase in FIT to 10 to 20 percent, respectively.

In past years, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) have emerged as a viable solution for providing ubiquitous connectivity for future wireless networks due to their ability to reach large geographical areas. However, the efficient integration and operation of an NTN with a classic terrestrial network (TN) is challenging due the large amount of parameters to tune. In this paper, we consider the downlink scenario of an integrated TN-NTN transmitting over the S band, comprised of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites overlap** a large-scale ground cellular network. We propose a new resource management framework to optimize the user equipment (UE) performance by properly controlling the spectrum allocation, the UE association and the transmit power of ground base stations (BSs) and satellites. Our study reveals that, in rural scenarios, NTNs, combined with the proposed radio resource management framework, reduce the number of UEs that are out of coverage, highlighting the important role of NTNs in providing ubiquitous connectivity, and greatly improve the overall capacity of the network. Specifically, our solution leads to more than 200% gain in terms of mean data rate with respect to a network without satellites and a standard integrated TN-NTN when the resource allocation setting follows 3GPP recommendation.

Active learning algorithms have become increasingly popular for training models with limited data. However, selecting data for annotation remains a challenging problem due to the limited information available on unseen data. To address this issue, we propose EdgeAL, which utilizes the edge information of unseen images as {\it a priori} information for measuring uncertainty. The uncertainty is quantified by analyzing the divergence and entropy in model predictions across edges. This measure is then used to select superpixels for annotation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of EdgeAL on multi-class Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) segmentation tasks, where we achieved a 99% dice score while reducing the annotation label cost to 12%, 2.3%, and 3%, respectively, on three publicly available datasets (Duke, AROI, and UMN). 1/f noise is a critical figure of merit for the performance of transistors and circuits. For two-dimensional devices (2D-FETs), and especially for applications in the GHz range where short-channel FETs are required, velocity saturation (VS) effect can result in the reduction of 1/f noise at high longitudinal electric fields. A new physics-based compact model is for the first time introduced for single- to few- layer 2D-FETs in this study, precisely validating 1/f noise experiments for various types of devices. The proposed model mainly accounts for the measured 1/f noise bias dependence as the latter is defined by different physical mechanisms. Thus, analytical expressions are derived, valid in all regions of operation in contrast to conventional approaches available in literature so far, accounting for carrier number fluctuation (DN), mobility fluctuation (Dmu}) and contact resistance (DR) effects based on the underlying physics that rules these devices. DN mechanism due to trap**/detrap** together with an intense Coulomb scattering effect, dominates 1/f noise from medium to strong accumulation region while Dmu, is also demonstrated to modestly contribute in subthreshold region. DR can also be significant in very high carrier density. The VS induced reduction of 1/f noise measurements at high electric fields, is also remarkably captured by the model. The physical validity of the model can also assist in extracting credible conclusions when conducting comparisons between experimental data from devices with different materials or dielectrics.

Agrivoltaics (AV) is a dual land-use approach to collocate solar energy generation with agriculture for preserving the terrestrial ecosystem and enabling food-energy-water synergies. Here, we present a systematic approach to model the economic performance of AV relative to standalone ground-mounted PV (GMPV) and explore how the module design configuration can affect the dual food-energy economic performance. A remarkably simple criterion for economic feasibility is quantified that relates the land preservation cost to dual food-energy profit. We explore case studies including both high and low value crops under fixed tilt bifacial modules oriented either along the conventional North/South (N/S) facings or vertical East/West (E/W) facings. For each module configuration, the array density is varied to explore an economically feasible design space relative to GMPV for a range of module to land cost ratio (M_L) - a location-specific indicator relating the module technology (hardware and installation) costs to the soft (land acquisition, tax, overheads, etc.) costs. To offset a typically higher AV module cost needed to preserve the cropland, both E/W and N/S orientated modules favor high value crops, reduced (<60%) module density, and higher M_L (>25). In contrast, higher module density and an increased feed-in-tariff (FIT) relative to GMPV are desirable at lower M_L. The economic trends vary sharply for M_L< 10 but tend to saturate for M_L> 20. For low value crops, ~15% additional FIT can enable economic equivalence to GMPV at standard module density. The proposed modeling framework can provide a valuable tool for AV stakeholders to assess, predict, and optimize the techno-economic design for AV

Agrivoltaics (AV) is an emerging technology having symbiotic benefits for food-energy-water needs of the growing world population and an inherent resilience against climate vulnerabilities. An agrivoltaic system must optimize sunlight-sharing between the solar panels and crops to maximize the food-energy yields, subject to appropriate constraints. Given the emerging diversity of monofacial and bifacial farms, the lack of a standardized crop-specific metric (to evaluate the efficacy of the irradiance sharing) has made it difficult to optimize and assess the performance of agrivoltaic systems. Here we introduce a new metric, light productivity factor (LPF), that evaluates the effectiveness of irradiance sharing for a given crop type and PV array design. The metric allows us to identify optimal design parameters including the spatial PV array density, panel orientation, and single axis tracking schemes specific to the PAR needs of the crop. By definition, LPF equals 1 for PV-only or crop-only systems. The AV systems enhances LPF between 1 and 2 depending on the shade sensitivity of the crop, PV array configuration, and the season. While traditional fixed-tilt systems increase LPF significantly above 1, we find LPF is maximized at 2 for shade-tolerant crops with a solar farm based on single axis sun tracking scheme. Among the fixed tilt systems, East-West faced bifacial vertical solar farms is particularly promising because it produces smallest variability in the seasonal yield for shade sensitive crops, while providing LPF comparable to the standard North-South faced solar farms. Additional benefits include reduced soiling and ease of movement of large-scale combine-harvester and other farming equipment.

Recently, developed techniques that made pattern set mining feasible by a general solver with long execution time that supports heuristic search and are limited to small datasets only. In this paper, we investigate an approach which aims to find diverse set of patterns using genetic algorithm to mine diverse frequent patterns. We propose a fast heuristic search algorithm that outperforms state-of-the-art methods on a standard set of benchmarks and capable to produce satisfactory results within a short period of time. Our proposed algorithm uses a relative encoding scheme for the patterns and an effective twin removal technique to ensure diversity throughout the search.

The model is applicable for a quantum well structure that frequently appears in modern nano-scale devices. This model is equally applicable for both silicon and III-V devices. Unlike other models already available in the literature, our model can accurately predict all the eigen energies without the inclusion of any fitting parameters. The validity of our model has been checked with numerical simulations and the results show significantly better agreement compared to the available methods.

C-V characteristic of this device is investigated here with the variation of bottom gate voltage. The depletion to accumulation transition point (i.e. Threshold voltage) of the C-V curve should shift in the positive direction when the bottom gate is negatively biased and our simulation results validate this phenomenon. Ballistic performance of this device has also been studied with the variation of top gate voltage.

In this paper, Capacitance-Voltage (C-V) characteristics and direct tunneling (DT) gate leakage current of antimonide based surface channel MOSFET were investigated. Self-consistent method was applied by solving coupled Schrödinger-Poisson equation taking wave function penetration and strain effects into account. Experimental I-V and gate leakage characteristic for p-channel InxGa1-xSb MOSFETs are available in recent literature. However, a self- consistent simulation of C-V characterization and direct tunneling gate leakage current is yet to be done for both n- channel and p-channel InxGa1-xSb surface channel MOSFETs. We studied the variation of C-V characteristics and gate leakage current with some important process parameters like oxide thickness, channel composition, channel thickness and temperature for n-channel MOSFET in this work. Device performance should improve as compressive strain increases in channel. Our simulation results validate this phenomenon as ballistic current increases and gate leakage current decreases with the increase in compressive strain. We also compared the device performance by replacing InxGa1-xSb with InxGa1-xAs in channel of the structure. Simulation results show that performance is much better with this replacement.
